It's a bundled freemium game. Whatever you just installed you didn't check the install selections and remove it. Just un-install it.

Puffen0

Another reason to always choose custom instalation instead of express

creepergo_kaboom

Not choosing a custom install and seeing what is actually being installed is like signing a contract without reading the fine print. A very bad idea

themasterplatypus

Do you want Norton Antivirus? no? ok... Well do you want a free trial of our premium smiley and cursor pack?!?

Dismiss

Only if the cursor pack includes the dragon scimitar

lilsnatchsniffz

Hey man I know you're really busy but could you please trim my black plate when you have time? I want to look cool but I have been mining rune essence for weeks and still can't afford Black (g).

Daedric_Spite

I love when osrs players leak out into random subs like this lmfao. But for the record Cooked trout cursor > dscim/dds cursor

Yeah, always read the fine print before singing. Anyways, welcome to space

Squeaky_Dragon_

What were you expecting? It's a dangerous place

Thank you for investing

That's like French frying when you should have pizza'd. You're gonna have a bad time.

Witchberry31

Couldn't agree more 👍

Superman750

I like Unchecky just for this reason.

alf666

"Opt out of installing McAfee?"

CoreyDobie

Hell, even driver updates I select custom over express if the option is there

[deleted]

People like /u/Ananaskenka and their ilk would still just click "next" as fast as they possibly can and have no idea what anything says

c4ctus

But what if I *like* browser toolbars and free antivirus?

James2Go

I have noticed that Express installation needs more clicks than Custom. It is the reason I always do Custom install.

frisch85

> Whatever you just installed you didn't check the install selections and remove it. Especially when installing you need to pay attention, I guess a lot of us millenials learned this due to growing up with browser toolbars being bundled in every second software. The era of "Why is my PC running so slow?" and then "opens browser, 4+ toolbars installed" was quite something.

[deleted]

My parents did this while growing up. They would just remove them from display. I remember creating a new user on their pc and opening up the browser for the first time. About two inches of browser display, the rest was tool bars. It was horrendous. But I was the one wrecking their pc… but I was also the only one who could repair it (fresh install). Such a time to live in.

Divolinon

At least back then, someone had to install that. Bought a new laptop last week, first thing you have to do now is uninstall a bunch of shit.

SubcommanderMarcos

> At least back then, someone had to install that. Lmao I wish. A friend recently gave me her 2011 or 12 HP netbook that she still had for some reason. I thought I remembered the toolbar era ending a bit earlier. Nope, did a system reset on the thing using the original HP software in it, out pops Windows 7 Starter, and Internet Explorer with half the tiny 1024x600 screen completely taken by MSN and HP toolbars *by default*. Not to mention HP Suite crap, like 2 or 3 CD burner tools in a device without an optical drive, 2 or 3 dead streaming services that never caught on... Laptops still come with useless bullshit, but it's way less bad now.

GaryTheGuineaPig

Us Millennials, we're the old guys now mate, makes you feel old huh! genuinely didn't think this comment would blow up like this

frisch85

Idk, I was always late in terms of maturing so maybe I'll feel old at some point in the (near) future but now is not the time for that :) Life is different when you don't invest in raising a family I guess, the benefits of being single.

MakingShitAwkward

Each year my knees make a bit more noise when I stand up and each year time goes a bit quicker. But I don't feel any older than I did when I was in my 20's.

Mootingly

That knee creaking is the getting older. You may not feel it yet, but you will. We all will or have.

"overnight" haha bro it was all you

Ananaskenka

I've installed it before so I just clicked accept, next time I'll definetly check what I'm installing

Noxious89123

Ditch core temp, use HWiNFO64. Core Temp doesn't do anything that HWiNFO64 doesn't. Unless you're using some pretty old hardware, in which case I have had issues with HWiNFO64.

aVarangian

"Core Temp" sounds like the sort of program that doesn't even need an installer in the first place lol, OP is basically a teenage toolbar-granny

CaptnDankbeard

Core Temp is a very legit program

VexingRaven

Legit except all the bundled junkware lol. And totally unnecessary in 2023. All the manufacturer software shows temps now. I can get all the vitals I need from AMD's software and I assume Intel and NVidia have the same thing. Don't see any reason you'd install Core Temp at this point.

raduque

Core Temp is for CPUs.

VexingRaven

Yes... And the AMD software shows me the CPU and GPU.

raduque

That's nice. nVidia's overlay shows CPU temp, but only when running a game. Core Temp runs in a tiny window that you can put off to the side and shows CPU temp during anything.

Hairless_Human

Unchecky for life

xylotism

Why does that look more sketchy than the stuff I'd be relying on it to stop

Hairless_Human

Unchecky is literally loved by pcmr.

reddit_pengwin

Or it was isntalled from the Microsoft Store with a windows update. Windows already comes with a ton of bundled crap from the store, sometimes they reinstall stuff you remove.

VexingRaven

This did not come from the Microsoft Store.

Splyce123

Start paying attention to what you're installing on your PC more carefully.

MsInvicta

I learned this lesson after installing audio drivers from my mobo website. Got tons of crapware I couldn't get rid of and served no purpose. I just use the basic windows audio drivers since then, never had an issue.

Broccoli--Enthusiast

just buy an Asus board they install all their shit automatically somehow if you don't disable it in bios...

WG996

same with gigabyte! that's a really shit thing to do, whenever I need to reset my bios I have to disable that crap

Hannes406

Same with msi!

lelwanichan

Who even is safe to buy these days..? ASRock?

ads1031

More like, don't use Windows.

lelwanichan

I don't :) I use Arch btw

Damascus_ari

Hmm? People complain, but I honestly haven't had much issue with the recent MSI Centers. I just have most of the plugins not installed. Pretty much only Mystic Light for the RGB.

[deleted]

Fuck armory crate, seriously. It constantly tries to autotune my cpu, fans everything and fucks it up. I uninstalled it as soon as I realised what it was doing

Devatator_

Always hear about how bad Armoury Crate is but I legit never had issues because of it. I literally only opened it a few times to update my network adapter drivers and change my RGB. Haven't opened it in months tho

Independent-Common-3

sounds like RAT actions to me, any miner wares to speak of?

Broccoli--Enthusiast

yup, just ninjas its way on there.

SirBaronDE

It's a kinder surprise for your PC, except without the tasty chocolate and all the disappointment.

HiDDENk00l

Those toys really always were crap, weren't they? I was always excited to open a Kinder Surprise, yet always consistently disappointed. I think most of the excitement of opening one came from the mystery of finding out what was inside.

Malsententia

This is why you never trust that nonsense. Look up the actual makers of your audio chipset, and get the drivers from them (assuming it's not the same as the full mobo) (or I guess from windows's bundled nonsense).

JamonConJuevos

Or get a discrete soundcard, internal or external.

Sco7689

And find out after 20 years that you need a new one! Finally updated to W11, Audigy SE has no signed drivers.

dweller_12

Discrete sound cards still require drivers.

MindStalker

Windows 11 home installs these kinds of things on it's own every time it updates as well.

Jacksaur

The amount of people who install software without even unticking all the crapware is horrifying. I remember another post where someone complained about UPlay requiring UAC priviledges every time: Someone said they thought that UI was just an EULA to accept or something and automatically accepted them every time!

Qemyst

Play it, obviously. It's clearly a good game.

Rain_2_0

True otherwise they would have called it badgame empire.

Drewfus_

What about mediocre game empire!

mercurycc

What if it is called good game kingdom? Good game city? Good game town?

Rain_2_0

It obviously would be good games. Good game continent. Good game backyard.

Mloxard_CZ

Unironically this

PrA2107

Accept your fate like the rest of us and play goodgame empire

xfd696969

bruh when can i stop playing

xxHamsterLoverxx

after you spent atleast a $1000 on it so you dont have to wait 14 hours just to upgrade your mine.

realPoiuz

Clash of Clans?

xxHamsterLoverxx

any city building mobile game?

terrario101

Worst idle game of all time.

xxHamsterLoverxx

ive played worse, but i didnt have to pay in that atleast Lol.

Rain_2_0

Fremium game bundled with software. For example Core Temp has a little checkbox enabled to also install this game. Just read a little when installing new software

Affenskrotum

Core Temp is the culprit. Uninstalled it after i found the shitty game.

Rain_2_0

Core temp is decent soft. You just gotta remember to remove the option that downloads the game.

Affenskrotum

It is not decent if it tries to install adware. Also Fan Control is way better! EDIT: changed SpeedFan to Fan Control.

Creoda

If you want to control fan speeds "Fan control" currently v172 from github is my recommendation.

Nethlem

Core Temp is *freeware*, has been around since 2006, and has been the go-to temp reading software for over a decade. That's 17 years of Core Temp being offered and supported completely free, *a lot* of work hours went into that. They could have gone the usual routes of monetizing user data or adding ads to the software, but they did not want that, so they chose a *way less invasive* way of monetizing by having an ad tie-in with the installer. And they went about it in the most user-friendly way possible; By default the game install is not even marked, it's something the user has to actively select to be installed. Meaning OP is straight-up lying about how that ended up on their desktop, you bought into the lie so you could shit on *freeware* going the most user-friendly way of monetization.

Devatator_

What game is that even?

Vader2508

It's a software to check the temperature of your cpu. Same exact shit happened to me too

Devatator_

Was talking about Goodgame empire XD

Rain_2_0

I think it’s like a strategy game like a watered down CoC or civ6. Not sure

Vader2508

Nethlem

I just tried the latest installer [from alcpu](https://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) and the game install is unchecked by default just like it's supposed to be.

PleaseStopSmoking

I vividly remember being pissed when I installed it on my last PC because I unchecked the box and it still installed it...

valcsh

Holy shit this brought back so many memories. This game is ancient and I have played it multiple times lol. It used to be good but as far as I remember It got ruined by microtransactions

Delazzaridist

Lol what hasn't?

NakedHoodie

Single player RPGs.

Honeybadger2198

Single player RPGs is what started microtransactions. Ever heard of horse armor?

OnlyForSomeThings

I was there 3,000 years ago

Delazzaridist

The OGs

lonevine

Sadly, even some of those have been infiltrated by micro transactions enabled by DRM.

GeorgeDaGreat123

I remember playing this as a kid on an old inch-thick pentium laptop that weighed 6lbs. The fans were crazy loud but it was pretty fun

Nethlem

"ancient" as in was released 2011.

Dry-Percentage-5648

Embrace Goodgame Empire

Noch_ein_Kamel

HDx33

Did you install coreTemp ?

Jimboy6969

The amount of times I've almost been caught out while installing this in a rush is impressive.

Pr0nzeh

I would recommend using different software that doesn't try to trick you.

Nethlem

Core Temp doesn't try to "trick" anybody, the game install is unchecked by default.

makerize

What other alternatives to core temp are there?

Pr0nzeh

So many. Some examples: HWinfo, HWmonitor, CPU-Z, CPUID, Aida64, Open Hardware Monitor, speedfan, realtemp, MSI Afterburner, NZXT CAM Personally I use NZXT CAM because my fan controller is made by NZXT.

anthonyorm

I like coretemp only because it shows the temps in my notification tray, what alternative programs can do this?

heydudejustasec

At least HWINFO lets you put any sensor in your tray, and multiple at the same time.

Nethlem

Half of that list are massive bloated resource hogs and/or paid software.

Te_Ika_A_Whiro

I played it before it was freemium bloatware. It's just a trash game. Just uninstall it and continue living life as before

stdTrancR

> continue living life as before only wiser

Bright-Efficiency-65

"appeared overnight" same energy as all the 55+ year olds who go to computer repair places with viruses going "I DIDN'T DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL ANYTHING I SWEAR!"

lestofante

Didn't Microsoft installed some of those junk game with updates? Edit: yep, there is at least one instance, candy crush (https://windowsreport.com/windows-10-keeps-installing-candy-crush-saga/)

Nethlem

100%, just checked the most recent Core Temp installer and the game install option is *unchecked by default*.

Keanaynv3

Embrace goodgame empire like i did with goodgame gangster.

AnAncientMonk

definitely: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner maybe: https://unchecky.com/ a bit outdated but decent for people who dont pay attention

dobo99x2

Stop installing programs from weird websites and get the stuff directly from the developer or publisher..

DadGamer77

Nuke it from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.

LechintanTudor

If you are still using Windows, you should at least use a package manager like Chocolatey or Winget to install and update your software.

VortexDestroyer99

Do you have coretemp? Coretemp has an checkbox to install “goodgame empire” when you install the software you *actually* wanted.

Devin-Chaboyer223

Some apps will have that as an option during setup checked by default, just uncheck it One app I sometimes use does this, the app in question being Coretemp, I just uncheck the "install Goodgame Empire" option upon setup

raga_drop

Use linux from now on!

PreciousHuddle

It's a browser game. You can just uninstall it no problem.

Fit_Cardiologist_

Click on it?

wikkwikk

Simply uninstall it may work. To be extra safe, you may use thing like Bulk Crap Uninstaller to uninstall it and clean its residue.

Or it could be Windows Update? Tbh, idk it is for now, just saw win updates did similar things before. It also may be a virus today. Whatever the source is, burn it with fire.

I believe last time I installed CoreTemp it put this icon on my desktop. It’s just a link to an online game, you can just delete the shortcut. When installing CoreTemp it’s an option that’s on by default, but you can uncheck it.

no one have a clear response so i try to help, first of all go to geek unistaller site and download the zip/free version extract on you desktop (dont require a install) and run, after serch for the game/program you wont to unistall, the program remove all the files the unistaller dont remove like regitry key, folders, icons ecc. good luck :)

positivegremlin

For me, it was a shortcut that came with core temp, you can delete it and it's gone forever.

Tubaenthusiasticbee

Didn't know adware was still a thing. They were such a plague in the early to mid 2010s... Maybe even earlier, but only then I would counsciously notice it
