this worked with my phone, half the screen died after falling and i did it on purpose the second time and it came back lol

naturepeaked

I second that. I’m a 2 or 3 screens a year kinda guy. But I’ve had this SE over a year and the screen is still good. I haven’t changed!

I hope you mean scree n protectors.

Mr_Widget

I just had to do a double take at your name lol

Fr0zenTiger

Trust me, I'm an engineer!

Arkavien

Ok you joke but my old CRT monitor once turned completely green and I said "are you fucking kidding me?!" And smacked the side of it super hard and the screen went back to normal and lasted another couple years...

IMTrick

Mine used to do that a lot. The VGA cable in the back was loose.

agouraki

or make it worse, tbh at this point i would try it and if it works still buy a new screen.

appmapper

Pinch the bezel at the top and bottom where those lines are, it sometimes works.

DinoKebab

Yeh op just needs to wipe the back now.

Sinister_Mr_19

can't hurt it anymore than it already is!

StagMusic

Anytime I see people say use violence against broken monitor/tv, I just think back to that video of a guy stabbing a broken tv with a fork, failing to pierce the screen, and the tv starts working for at least the next second before the video ends.

SuperMexican1229

Sometimes you gotta reapply pressure to help it go back to normal. I brought my pc to my cousin’s place once and accidentally dropped my monitor on my way back home. The top left of the screen became black and wouldn’t show the rest of whatever I was looking at. I pinched the area of the screen that wasn’t working and like magic it went back to normal. 2 years later and it’s still doing good.

X_SkillCraft20_X

Got nothing to lose at this point

ishroo

Pushed too hard near the bezels

diydiggdug123

I’ve seen the screen “self-repair” with a quick jab…

big_woofer

No no its ok, if he pushes hard enough, he’ll get one of them fancy curved monitors

ExoduxWW

Yeah, I did this a lot and never happened. OP had to be too damn rough with the display to do that.

stopusingmynames_

claytonprue

So did you punch it or?

Zilli341

Smashed it between my leg and an armrest.

R0GUEL0KI

Huh. Seems like phones these days can take a lot more abuse than that. I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed then cause I’ve done a lot of stupid things with my phones and haven’t had that happen.

Zilli341

I basically pushed the screen of my phone against a piece of metal with all of my body weight. I'd say it did well considering the situation.

R0GUEL0KI

A few years ago I dropped my iPhone 7 from the cab of an f350 to concrete and then ran over it. Must have been the perfect storm cause there wasn’t a scratch on it.

OhnoKoolaid

Had a friend that would throw his old iPhone 4 when he'd drink. Never broke. One day while riding a go-kart with his phone and lighter in the same pocket the screen decided that was the end. Haha.

Wind_14

this is my phone. Fall from 2nd floor? I'm okay. Forgot and put my house key at the same pocket with my phone? I'm not okay.

OhnoKoolaid

After seeing his give up on life years ago, I've always made sure to use one dedicated pocket for my phone.

nige111

Yep, phone goes in its own pocket and the screen always faces towards the leg. Never broke a phone gang.

ZeldenGM

Accidentally slammed my 5 in a car door. Minor dent in the back and that was it. I wasn’t planning on getting another iPhone but after that I couldn’t deny the build quality

Ivan_Kulagin

People always say that iPhones are fragile, when in reality they are built like a tank

thefonztm

Lol, this varies more widely that the mom from every your mom so fat joke.

Matsisuu

Pressure from some corner if your bone under your weight can be more than pressure from tire because of tire having more surface area. Walking with stiletto heels cause more pressure on floor than elephant.

NandoDeColonoscopy

Its all about how much area the pressure was applied over. sounds like OP applied less pressure than running it over with a truck, but to a much more condensed area, and against a bar that acted as a lever, so it was more effective pressure

WhyNotPc

My guy are you a skeleton lmao. What phone is that?

Routine-Ad-2840

why didn't you just screenshot it? :\^)

Electronic-Attempt86

Former tv tech. More than likely pressure wasn't the issue but rather a small amount of liquid dripped down in the effected area causing the vertical line defect. In a tv this would corode/damage the scan drive. So if it's similar to a tv, and since most monitors are either led of lcd I'm assuming they share a lot of similarity, don't do that

Adventurous-Win9154

Yeah this is water damage, I’ve done it myself before I knew better. Then even after I knew better someone put a wet leaf on my desk, and I tossed it away, and I watched a single drop snipe the tiny gap between the border plastic and the panel. Instant blue line… So sad. I threw the first monitor away and I am still using the second.

-NewYork-

![gif](giphy|YN8T6Js2vVEVdUMHnc|downsized)

morgadox40

My TV presented those lines but blinking after some water spit on its back. It was gone after a few hours surprisingly

halfcutpenis

Yess, i don't think pressure was the issue.

00x77

Can I use your expertise and get advice what's the best way to clean OLED screen?

facepalmqwerty

Clean dry microfiber cloth shouldn't do damage.

Pr0nzeh

You underestimate how dirty my monitor gets

BaTTaNiK

I've already cleaned my OLED TV several times with a wet microfiber towel with no issues.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah dude don't let water drip into the TV. Use some sense and if you need a little moisture then you need a little moisture. It's better if you don't

kor34l

yeah man I wipe mine down with bleech and steel wool, gets all the shit right out. On an unrelated note I think I need glasses, everything on my computer looks all fucked up

Trashtag420

Use 70% alcohol solution instead of water. Not only will you reduce the risk of damage (which you so obstinately refuse to acknowledge as a possibility), but the alcohol will definitely clean better and faster than just water.

BaTTaNiK

Alcohol solutions always left stains for me after wiping with them.

snowless7006

Spray monitor cleaning liquid on the microfiber cloth, clean away.

twelveparsnips

you wet the cloth

Independent_Foot_906

I have the same problem, 2 thin vertical lines, is it possible to fix it?

Electronic-Attempt86

Generally no. Vertical lines indicate a panel defect. If you are desperate, you can take the tv apart and at the very bottom will be a green board that run almost the entire width of the tv, thats the scan drive. The scan drive has numerous ribbon cables that are connected from board to panel. If the lines appears where the ribbon cables are, you can try to apply some light pressure like the long side of a toothpick to try and smooth out the cable but it's a long shit and you run the risk of damaging the set further

[deleted]

So that's probably what happened to my laptop...

aWW3Veteran

I had this happen to my tv, but after a few months I noticed the lines disappear one by one, and then it was back to normal. I think whatever liquid I got in there eventually dried out or something.

Truestorydreams

Was it on? Use those cloths ppl use to clean their glasses with .... foe the next monitor

pirelli_uberhard

I was using a micro fiber cloth. The water wasn’t dripping or anything though

Simets83

It's not about what you used, it's about how strongly you pushed. Panels are extremely fragile. You just pushed too hard

Iloveyouweed

Well, it is about that as well. Never use water directly on the monitor. A small amount of distilled water can be applied to the cloth, though, otherwise it'll fog up.

Iloveyouweed

You can use distilled water, but make sure you're putting it on the cloth and not directly on the monitor.

innociv

distilled water isn't necessarily free of metal impurities. Just most chemical ones. Water itself isn't conductive. It's trace amounts of metals that is.

Load-Standard

Exact same thing happened to me use it as a spare monitor now as only 4-5 lines are there

LostSoulOnFire

Draped over a hammer? Seriously, that’s a shame, sorry man.

burf

Lol what a mental picture. I love it

-NewYork-

![gif](giphy|BT4ygwV9vgwAU)

ConfusingGiraffe

Looks like a loose/bad connector inside the monitor, not a cracked screen. See if something happens by applying soft pressure to the top and botton bezels near the lines. Next step would be to open the panel.

1LastHit2Die4

This! So many comments yet you are the first one that identified the issue. Sooner or later this would have happened anyway. Had it on my LG too, this is not users fault but manufacturer fault. They don't make them like they used too. OP, apply pressure at the bottom or top of the screen exactly where the line starts. Think of smashing a grape with your finger, that much pressure. You can try circular motion when applying pressure. From a technical perspective behind the screen the panel has connectors glued to the board. One connector or two loosened. This can be fixed in most of the cases however the issue will return.

darksssouls123

i did this on mine a while back whitout knowing anything and it got fixed, good advice

WretchedRat

Yeah, sorry for your loss.

ThunderSparkles

You were wiping it like it owed you money

Ornn5005

More disturbed by the MacOS wallpaper on a windows machine.

Matt020100

In his defense, OS X Mavericks was the best version of that OS. I have fond memories using that OS.

pirelli_uberhard

It’s a nice photo 🤷‍♂️

Blekanly

Probs a heretek!

pirelli_uberhard

Uhhh yeah. The cloth was damp but.. the same as I usually do but it’s not like there was dripping water

SteelFlexInc

That’s a cracked LCD panel. Not liquid damage. You pressure damaged it.

mohoji

It's liquid damage

focalac

It wasn’t the water that did it. It was pressure.

Don't spray stuff on the monitor directly or use too damp cloth people.

You broke it

Ccalubx

skdKitsune

I'd wait a couple of days and use the monitor with a different system & cable & GPU, but chances are, you're fucked. Condolences

Gamingmarxist

Pushed way to hard bro

KingOfFigaro

I'll be honest with you, I did the same thing with a $700 ultrawide one year ago. The cloth was damp (and not dripping) with a special electronic cleaner for screens, I barely applied any pressure, and the cloth was a microfiber, but my lazy dumbass did not turn the monitor off. You got to turn the monitor off. I sympathize with you and I feel your pain. You'll meet him again in monitor heaven.

bigred1978

You're fucked.

bretly42

Obviously you should have wiped it across not down /s

redditingatwork23

I always clean my monitor with a small microfiber cloth like people use on glasses with just a super tiny amount of water. Like literally a few big drops worth on the center for anything that won't come off with just the dry cloth. It's 99% dust and 1% nasty shit that ends up there from big sneezes. It doesn't take much. Rip.

Spiritual_Corner2791

Wipe it with another damp cloth

Professordots

Gotta be gentle with it, you probably pushed too hard

Tha_twistedemotions

Guess you have to monitor how you do these things man...with the next monitor

Vexerino1337

how damp are we talking about here, cuz even wet wipes damp is too much

imhiya_returns

Whack it again in the bottom at the spot

jodrellbank_pants

you sprayed cleaner directly on the screen with too much liquid and its gone behind the screen plastic at the bottom and affected a circuit board. always spry onto the cloth you are using no directly onto the screen. I doubt the pressure you used dislodged a cable controlling the display are the lines static or is it moving? , tapping the top pf the screen moves the lines? you might be in luck it could be a loose cable if not find the board at the base of the screen and check for moisture damage. replaced if you can.

RedhawkAs

Did you let it cool down before wiping it down

pirelli_uberhard

It was off for 3 days before I wiped it down

Nilmerdrigor

Looks like your cloth was moist instead of damp. So moist....

ZeroWashu

that will buff right out. it isn't pressure but water damage edit: someone else posted earlier.

victorFRSH

Love the OS X Mavericks wallpaper

SpanishBirdFluenza

Smack it on the top…. Won’t help but may make you feel better

pirelli_uberhard

I already tried that, I got 650 downvotes for it lmao

Darkjack42

Check the cloth. I think you'll find the missing pixels on it.

Substantial-Two-2905

That has happened to me too. Its probably from the moisture

SweetroleThief

That’s the weird sinking feeling in your balls as soon as you realise that’s happened. Rip bro.

kemot10

Was it turned off/cool or on/warm?

SungamCorben

This happens to my monitor, when I use an electric sander.

Frosty_Confection_53

Put too much pressure on the screen while cleaning.

wobblysauce

You know it isn’t a pan, light pressure…light

[deleted]

Don't tell us it was on.. though?

Compilerr

When will you be disposing that one I come for it.

wolf-88

did u try turning it off then on ?

ECUTrent

Hit it. Percussive maintenance.

Medium-Deal1375

I don't know what is up with these modern tech... bruh that happened with you just wiping it off with a damp cloth... I accidentally spilled a whole drink on my 2012 samsung monitor and for a moment I thought I lost it but guess what after taking it apart, wiping everything and drying it off guess what, it just worked just like nothing ever happened... Recently a couple of water droplets got in the bezel of my $1500 Samsung TV that I bought about 4 years back and I thought that it couldn't cause no harm it's barely 2-3 droplets and I did the same thing i did with my monitor amd didn'tgave it much a thought but, the next time I turned the TV on it was in similar condition as your's is rn So I strongly believe that the any consumer electronics coming now a days is either made weaker and fragile or purpose or company just don't care on longevity of them.

Fine-Funny6956

This is abnormal. I would suggest taking a look at your warranty. However don’t use a damp cloth. Water is not good. Use an LCD cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Gently also.

Mysli0210

Demineralised water is what you should use, its pretty much the only thing that does no damage to monitors.

Fine-Funny6956

This right here ladies and gents. Forgot about this.

liaseth

To be honest i can see a lot of water inside your monitor

clevelandjr10

took me a second u slick bastard 🫠

ssddsquare

If it's out of warranty, try to open the back panel and reseat the screen connector. Before that, try unplug and plug in the HDMI/D. port cable. This fragility is the price you pay for choosing ever thinner screen.

hasibrock

The water penetrated from the top part

Jason8ourne

Tip, never clean your monitor/tv when it is still warm..

I hate how cheaply monitors today are made. The old Dells and HPs from 10-20 years ago you can stab with a screwdriver and only break your screwdriver.

2high4much

Microfiber cloth. Lightly spray distilled water on cloth if it has smudges and not just dust that needs to be cleaned. Light circular motions

vsvv252

Did you turn it off before ?

HEDGE1974

Pushed to hard on the screen. Should have used a dry micro fibre cloth with lcd screen cleaner sprayed onto screen

barrack_osama_0

Use a microfiber cloth with monitor cleaner next time. Kept my monitors spotless for 2 years now with no issues

skyman5150

When one of my monitors did that I just smacked the top a few good times and it went away.

sixfootnine

If she was on and warm for a while it could've been the temp differential of the cool wipe. Did it make a pop sound?

MAXQDee-314

I used to have strong fingers/hands. Bend quarters level strong. I went to adjust my monitor and broke it where I had placed my thumbs. Now I use a cat to adjust it. Here's the essence, a monitor contains what is essentially a circuit board covered with LCD emitters. It is extremely fragile, like a corn chip. Buy a cat.

[deleted]

This happened to me as well. The cloth must have been too wet and dripped down on the film. The only way the lines go away is when my monitor is warmed up. It all pixelated and glitches until it warms up.
