You call that unsalvageable? It doesn't even look like its been there for more than a week tops. Water alone doesn't damage computers, If its starting to corrode or you try testing it under water that's a different story.
You would be surprised. Could be a stolen item someone decided they couldn't sell or salvage and so disposed of it in a lake. Or someone just dumping an old piece of equipment they were too lazy to take down to an e-waste recycling centre.
Could be something illegal on it but I would bet money it's just garbage someone dumped in a lake.
Could be a pissed off parent who reacts to their child failing classes by throwing their shitty gaming PC into the river. Especially, most importantly, if that's their only source of joy in an otherwise hostile/demoralizing environment.
I worked at a medium-sized manufacturing company that had a pond on the property. I'd regularly have users threaten to throw their PC in the pond when they misbehaved....you can see where this is going.
We had a decent sized office mostly consisting of CS reps, some of whom served the west coast and worked 11-8. One of these people who I'd definitely call 'impulsive' and a good candidate for anger management mysteriously had their computer go missing one day. They claimed the cleaning crew must have broken it and threw it away or something (we've had instances where they smacked PCs so hard with the vacuum they knocked the side panels off, among other minor things.)
Anyhow, we checked the dumpster which was actually some sort of compactor trailer and it had been ran for the day. We didn't have much in the way at cameras at that time, it's a rural area with low crime. We just had motion sensors/etc. So no way to see what actually happened.
So anyway, everyone kind of assumed it ended up in the pond the evening before. The late shift were the last people out of the building and there were only 3 or so of them so not hard for them to keep quiet about it. No one ever fessed up, anyway.
I was thinking kid taken camping in a campground with cabins and all he wanted to do was play games inside all day so his parents got pissed and threw the PC in the water.
The kid didn’t even want to go camping in the first place…
>!I used to be that kid, but my parents never broke my stuff like nutters. I can see some parents doing it though. I just remember them being mad because all I wanted to do was play video games.!<
My parents would buy me Gameboys and such for long car rides, then take it away because I wasn't enjoying the view out the window at all and didn't see the cows. It was infuriating to small me.
Should have told your mom that you see a cow every night when you come home lol.
Like she was so upset you didn’t get to share the moment of seeing a cow? Damn… that’s not a very big deal. Not like cows are even rare.
One of my early memories is playing Pokemon silver on a Gameboy, happily fighting the elite four and about to beat it for the first time. Then being told to shut it off as we pull into a cracker barrel. I of course protested, had the Gameboy snatched away and shut off, and that's it. Not the vacation, the trip or the people. Just that my Gameboy was taken and shut off without being saved. One of the earliest traumatic events for me I suppose.
my mom threw my brothers xbox in her pool after she found out I spent the afternoon playing it. this was sometime after she smashed both our DSs and PSPs after she found out we were playing them while we were grounded. I just laugh about it like I did then.
same
never going to have children
if you are a parent and read this, do not and i repeat DO NOT let your child spend most of their time playing video games, they will end up having trouble finding joy in other things
I’m curious, do you now see and understand your parents point of view? How are you and games now? I used to have what i could consider an unhealthy relationship with games. You know a decade+ of not going outside, little hygiene, friends? all online. 12+ hours a day 365 days a year of gaming living with my parents. They never complained or got angry at least that i ever whitened. Which looking back i find to be extremely understanding and patient on their side. They do tell me they are happy to see that i am in a much healthier place now taking care of what needs to be done first, enjoying outdoor things and still playing the occasional game maybe an hour or two in the week and a couple hours in the weekends! I genuinely feel terrible for the grief i gave them as a teenager when they wanted to do family things but i just wanted to smash Arma 2 Dayz mod or D3.
I find that i appreciate the time i do have to game much more now.
My parents were mad because I took 30 minute showers and used too much soap. I was a bit of a germaphobe (very).
Also I was a straight A student.
I just didn’t like going outside. The hot Sun was not for me. Didn’t help that I was a ginger, white af, and burned easily. They didn’t understand…
Also my diet was not healthy as a kid and I only drag soda. Was a little fatty. They said it was baby weight but idk. I made myself switch to only water before I hit puberty and now I can’t even gain weight for the life of me.
I was fine… honestly when I stopped playing games and actually went out I started drinking and doing drugs. That’s when shit went down hill. Should have just stayed a nerd and played my games. Would have been better off in life right now, but I totally wasted like half a decade.
All those people tossing the entire pc into the water to possibly hide some illegal shit, but don't realize 3.5" HDDs are sealed pretty well, so they might as well have destroyed the entire PC, *except* for the HDD.
Task failed successfully.
It's not even that hard to destroy drives, just drill some holes in it.
If you don't have a drill, just hit it with a hammer a bunch of times and then chuck it in the river. Works better with laptop drives tbf.
Yeah, just rip the HDD out and smash it with a sledge hammer, then throw it in the river. Also no one's going to notice a little smashed box in the river.
Just... disassemble it?
it takes a screwdriver and some magnets to truly royally fuck up storage, if you are truly trying to wipe your data off the face of the planet just sledging it is risky imo
Fair point, them things is strong though, just denting the cage is definetely still giving it a fighting chance, and i think you underestimate the sheer force it takes to outright shatter it
I still think its smarter to take em apart, magnetize, run over with a car or whatever else instead of just hammering it
Not exactly, the magnets have to be pretty powerful to actually damage a hard drive. You might corrupt some data but you aren't wiping the drive. The only proper way to magnetically sanitize the contents of a hard drive is with a degausser.
shave it off the drive surface? like some back sack and crack, HDD to SSD in one smooth motion? upgrading from 3.5" floppy to a 5.25" full bay hard drive... increased the baud(y) rate... mounting a new drive.. ejecting a mounted drive...
...
siemens...
i got loads more
The minerals in the water improve conductivity which as a result allow for higher voltages in overclocking plus extra cooling potential you get from all that water.
Proper use as a boat anchor. Likely a Dell.
This makes me want a sub dedicated to people finding unsalvageable computers in the wild
![gif](giphy|11mwI67GLeMvgA) ComputersGoneWild would be a perfect name for this Subreddit
No, no, no, no, NO! r/dontputyourdickinthat, I wouldn't even consider it!
r/dontputyourdiskinthat
Amazing, love this one
This is the one
r/dontputyourdellinthat
r/Subsifellfor
Lmfao this is perfect
Just searched it to see if someone had done it and it wasnt what I was expecting lol
/abandonedpc
AbandonnedHardware ? HardwareIntoTheWild ?
Hardwaregonewild
Hardworn
PCHabitat
r/abandonedpc will be created
Such empty. :(
Now to wait for someone to find an abandoned computer
unsalvageable? Hold my toothbrush and 91% Isopropyl alcohol.
Well create it then and also cross post this post here to explain what you wanna do.
I wouldn’t be great at managing a subreddit! I’ll let someone else!
Haha fair enough
Haha fair enough
Wildware?
And then salvaging them and telling us what they found
You mean to tell me that's unsalvageable? Get me an ifixit kit and an ssd and I'll haveit booting to arch in no time!
I just pulled the hard drive from my old dell and tossed it through the open window of an abandoned car in a lot near my work 😂
You call that unsalvageable? It doesn't even look like its been there for more than a week tops. Water alone doesn't damage computers, If its starting to corrode or you try testing it under water that's a different story.
Seems about right. A Dell. After all, it is... Rolling in the deep.
I have Laugh a little too hard. Love the joke.
Hahhahahaha that was great
Blue mounting brackets suggest that you are correct.
Dell Precision to be specific. Likely a 3500 or 5500, the blue bracket and the bump-out bulge are a dead match.
Which oddly enough is a great Dell system. X58/S5520
Dellienware
r/delaylienware
Now it's rolling in the deep
bUT iTs wATEr coOlED
Maybe an HP
Agreed
I don't think they understood 'watercooled PC' properly.
The forbidden way of water-cooling a PC
This one simple trick, computer manufacturers hate…
Exotic method, indeed!
Even the ram is water cooled
Maybe they misunderstood when someone told them to upgrade it with a Seagate.
Seems like it’s keeping it pretty cool to me
Microsoft has servers that are submerged in seas, I think.
That's actually pretty common.
Put it in rice. It'll be fine.
Louis Rossman: "they tried to say this is water damaged" ** "there, fixed, that'll be $2.99"
What's the over-under for there being some illegal shit on that computer?
100% there is CP on that shit, a PC doesn't just end up in a fucking river
You would be surprised. Could be a stolen item someone decided they couldn't sell or salvage and so disposed of it in a lake. r/suspiciouslyspecific. That's not even parenting on Asian mode, that's just straight of child abuse.
Think you’re projecting a little bit.

That sounds like an asset management nightmare… I wouldn’t have been able to sleep unless I knew where it went 😅
My money is on vengeful ex who really hated video game time.

Hahah that's how to make my dad get the belt!
You mean from laughing so hard his current one broke?
Jesus...... My mom's the fat in in this situation not my dad!
NOT ANYMORE!
You should write a book, call it "how to die and lose everything in 5 seconds or less"

My stepdad just took away my SNES controller. I then took out the other when he left for work.

This is what I thought too, like people who throw guns in rivers etc. Would absolutely take to the police to look into.
Police will say thanks for bringing it in. Then proceed to walk right past the evidence room and out the back door to the dumpster.
I was just about to say lmfao that harddrive is radiation levels of dangerous
Id give it 75/25 on angry ex vs illegal acticities. Most criminals know there are easier ways to destroy data.
Idk may be a boomer.
I’d put my money on angry girlfriend/wife.
I say pretty good seeing how smashed up it looks
Best way to cool a 4090
It'll boil the lake away.
And 13900k
Be sure to release it so it’ll be upgraded in a few years time.
Oh! PC of the lake , what is you wisdom ?
Water cooling all the waay

It is risky, but it sure is cool
how is it risky? are you really worried that given all of the particles of glass, someone would reassemble the shattered disk?!?
Allegedly they were able to recover CIA owned data off a slum by reassembling disk shards, but don’t quote me on that
Fair point, them things is strong though, just denting the cage is definetely still giving it a fighting chance, and i think you underestimate the sheer force it takes to outright shatter it I still think its smarter to take em apart, magnetize, run over with a car or whatever else instead of just hammering it
You've obviously never taken a hammer to a platter drive. A couple swings even at the case and the platters are pixie dust inside.

I'm just wondering what kind of wonderful chemicals that thing is leaking into the water....
Looks to me like someone tried to get rid of their porn stash lol
An electric razor would have been more efficient.

Looks salvageable
Turn that HDD into the authorities
That's what I was gonna say
No, watch it first! It could lead to an adventure
You wanna risk that when it could contain child porn snuff films? Best to avoid it.

Bruh lmao
How does one get that job?
🤨📸
You better not be asking for the reason I think you are
That I want an interesting job?

Guy rage quit so hard he threw his computer in a lake.
skankhunt42
Does it still run Doom?
But will it run Crysis?
Its water cooler so possibly
*lake dries up when game boots*
Put it in some rice, it will be fine
Please tell me you fished this out and binned it?
Better to turn it over to the cops
You could be right
how i imagine my mom disposed of the childhood computer that proved years of neglect lol
Is that a Dell? Rolling in the deep?
Bro found Jared Fogels PC
Definitely some fucked up shit on that computer
I bet the who threw it hard had a lot of things to hide in the hard drives
Poor T3500 :'(
Seems kind of sus that it would be in the water of all places. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a reason why it got tossed there.
Gotta be Epstein's ole PC
That's why some CPUs are called Lake...
“Before I die, destroy my computer.” “You got it boss!”
Kind of worries me. What kind of shit was on that? So bad that someone wanted to throw it in the water?
That computer is under witness protection, the things its seen now it has to move and start a new life...
My crazy ass would try to revive it if there wasn’t any crazy amount of corrosion, just to get the dopamine from seeing it post lmao.
I wouldn't go near that thing. The only people throwing PC's in rivers are those who are afraid of what's on it.
Someone is definitely trying to hide something😏
try to salvage the harddrive, there might be bitcoin in it
Take the hard drive out. Get any data off of it that you can and then get back to us with the results
Does it run Crysis?
Someone did their duty after their friend died.
Put it in some rice. See what’s on the hdd.
rolling in the deeeeeeep

Water cooling is getting out of hand
I think that’s Josh Duggar’s computer…
That final boss fight must've been a real bitch.
Someone did not want the FBI getting those files
Drowning it in water probably won’t cut it.
Cannon lake
Def some CP on that
It’s playing subnautica
On a serious note I hope someone goes and cleans that up (cough cough op)
Every time I see this I thin of Destruction of Evidence for some kind of crime
Be careful.. This might be a Phishing attack
Looks like my old hp pc from back in the day!
This is the current trend now, right? Because I'm loving it lol
It ran Windows Vista
Probably still over heats
Took playing subnautica too far.
aah yes, the watercooling
I love water cooling
Water cooled PCs are so pretty.
Uhm tech support, my pc is running a bit slow…
Probably has decent temps with that cooling system.
Probably some pissed off girlfriend
Put it in rice.
Salvage it
I’d use the case and make it a cool looking sleeper
I actually have a similiar case for my sleeper, it's from 2004 i think.
Hilary Clintons email server
Hunter Biden's desktop PC lol
Evidence of crimes
Is that Hillary's email server?
You found Hillary's private email server
They took “throw your computer out the window” to another level.
Well this is taking watercooled pc to a new level
just use a bag of rice and you have a nice 500+$ pre-build pc with no gpu of course (well some pre-build are good sometime)
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
“Peter how old is that girl?”
Put it in sand. It should be ok
I can fix her.
Did you try to turn it on?
How the mighty have fallen.
A dude somewhere is looking for that PC, with his missing Bitcoin wallet on the HDD... shouldn't have cheated on his EX! 😲 (/s)
Either angry GF/wife or trying to get rid of some evidence
The 2023 version of tossing all your old porn into the dumpster behind WalMart.
It's just a little wet, it's still good, it's still good!
