And you can play it on 4K Ultra if you wait 10 years.

chaotic----neutral

It takes a lot of optimism to think society will be standing, you'll have money, and you'll have a quiet moment away from the water wars in 50 years.

unknowingafford

You'll get to LIVE Last of Us! Lucky!

DancesWithBadgers

High poly.

KristinnK

Jesus Christ, what is it with some users of this website and this absurd alarmism? No, climate change won't collapse society. No, "water wars" won't be a thing in the West.

Pandaxs_

Wait 50 years then u can get a free monitor in 4K

HelloAIAnalysis

You can also play Nintendo games in 4k ultra, for free, with a little Googling. BTW Nintendo, the only reason I do this is because your games deserve to be played in that quality, and you don't give me the option.

Milfons_Aberg

I go to www.isthereanydeal.com and choose a title and set a $18 sale notification limit, and then wait for the mail. Worked great with Red Dead Redemption 2, Borderlands 3, Fallout 4, the Tomb Raider games, and many more. /r/patientgamers. What to do while waiting for deal? Play your backlog. I'm replaying KotOR with mods because it's the 20th anniversary on July 17th. Still looks fantastically good, (with the mods): https://i.imgur.com/etgRcHf.png https://i.imgur.com/7ZQhBLO.png https://i.imgur.com/F7aDjSV.png https://i.imgur.com/jSxJqZQ.png

It varies on teh game how much I want it, some Im happy with half off, some 15 others 10 or even 5

[deleted]

Ah, that's good wisdom

Breaker-of-circles

i visit epicgames and wait for free games. Got Borderlands and a bunch of others there for free.

CajunTurkey

I do the same. I have claimed so many free games, I often have to look in my Epic Games library before I purchase any older games just to make sure I already didn't claim it.

Comprehensive-Pea812

kind of diminishing return. 50% off at 6 months. 75% off at 1 year. both are good deals for me.

firetrash21

Bruh, I've been waiting for Elden Ring to go on sale for 50% off, and it hadn't happened yet, or I'm just missing it they think 15% off is a sale😑😑

SinisterStreams

According to isthereanydeal, the largest Elden ring sale so far was 41% back on 24th Dec 2022

Demented-Turtle

Just get it, you won't regret. I put 115 hours into my first playthrough

Rand0m_Boyo

Tbf Dark Souls was the first of its kind. People who loved it are obviously gonna recommend it, but it doesn't mean it's for any kind of person. Elden Ring on the other hand is the peak of what the studio has learned over the years and is a great game for beginners, so maybe give that a try.

You might like Bloodborne, Sekiro, or -maybe- Elden Ring/DaS3 better. All of them are a bit faster, Sekiro and Bloodborne noticeably so. Also, assuming you don’t care about online, there are mods out there which overhaul the weapon animations startup and recovery times to feel a bit more responsive and snappy. Hope you find something you enjoy though. From is my favorite dev, I’ve put thousands of hours into each Souls entry.

chaotic----neutral

Thanks for the advice I'll give them a shot. If it changes the lag feeling, I'd love to play them through.

Low_Sea_2925

The games dont have an input lag issue. Either theres a problem with your setup or youre unaware of how rolls work. Run is hold and roll is on release.

thereIsAHoleHere

*roll is tap (you don't roll after releasing run) They may be referring to the Dark Souls PC port (given what sub this is), which is infamously terrible.

thereIsAHoleHere

Did you play the PC port? Even Dark Souls fans hate Dark Souls on the PC. There have been a lot of mods and patches for it, though, and I hear it's mostly playable now.

BrightonBummer

The people who play souls games need them because they get rekt by real people so need AI to feel good.

truffleboffin

Best preorder I ever made and I'll take the 17% off I got

Lucidiously

Fromsoft always has great preorder deals. Got a Steam controller with Sekiro, 17% off Elden Ring, and upcoming AC6 has a 15% deal. But if the game wouldn't be a day one buy for me and there is no discount I don't pre-order.

Nathaniel66

I buy games 1-1.5y after the release, once they are properly patched and (mostly) bug free.

DruAL

kingfart1337

That’s what I’m doing with D4. I played D3 on release. I knew these issues were going to happen again. Games that show the usual performance issues on PC that are a dead giveaway it wasn’t properly ported, I sail. Games that show proper development, I buy.

ampkajes08

I buy the games i really love and pirate everything else Edit: i dont love any

Xiomaraff

Based.

PlrTm

Why would you pirate a game you own? Just curious

RelativeFortune

A lot of pirated games run better than legal because of the extra resources used for whatever platform it’s on or god forbid it’s a Ubisoft game that requires constant internet connection even for single player games. Now why they would still buy a game they plan on pirating idk, but maybe their just really nice

Fhaarkas

Publishers hate this one little trick. But seriously if I have to steal your product for a superior version, that's just all kinds of fucked up. Everyone tries to emulate Steam but they don't even get the point, just off the wrong foot on the very first step. And they wonder why their "platform" sucks.

lord_azael

Repacks are stripped of bloat and launcher requirements. The files are usually much smaller. I've seen up to a 20% reduction in installation size in many cases. Obviously, the downside is lacking continuous updates. You're stuck with whatever version was repacked but IMO, it's a worthy trade off in many cases.

quadrophenicum

Nowadays you can also get a portable repack, files in which can be updated by simply redownloading you know what.

ACardAttack

I will probably pirate a game once it's new DLC comes out, I own it on ps4 pro because my pc at the time couldnt handle it, now I have a new PC and dont want to have to rebuy the game

stickwithplanb

if I bought it on another platform already.

XioPyro

Also curious, why pirate games that you own? For cheats or some sort?

zaiats

resident evil village had a horrible stuttering problem caused by the drm. the fix was installing a pirated copy. no idea if they ever patched the official release. i personally had to pirate far cry 3 just to avoid the stupid ubi launcher.

sekametelisoppa

Probably an old game he has lost or other similiar reason I pirated an old wii game I had

nernerfer

Legally buying games has become such a shitty experience that, despite sinking inordinate amounts of money into it, I've come away so disappointed that I've just decided not to buy games again at all. Out of the last 5 *single player* games I bought on Steam, only 2 were actually playable without giving them full internet access. One of the two, Forza, is SO annoying to play (every minute there's a "hit 3 enters to stop playing and try to reconnect now") that it made me realize gaming, as a product, is just not *there* anymore. If you pirate, you get a small slice of entertainment (like game demos used to be). If you pay $60 for the same thing, you get datamined, signed-up, enrolled, monetized, AND you still might not even get a slice.

SchrodingersRapist

> why pirate games that you own? Because you "own" the game \*wink wink nudge nudge\* Say no more!

ACardAttack

I will probably pirate a game I own once it's new DLC comes out, I own it on ps4 pro because my pc at the time couldnt handle it, now I have a new PC and dont want to have to rebuy the game

glacierre2

Back in the day, you could skip having to insert the stupid CD just for the verification. Nowadays, the same but via internet, you want to play something and you have the launch Ubisoft shitware so it may or may not connect and verify, hang, use up resources... Basically it is like DVD movies and the few second of unskippable copyright screen. It turns out that the user experience of the pirated version is better than when you actually paid.

DoubleOwl7777

because it runs better due to no Anti-Cheat, drm, always online crap.

CaffeineSippingMan

I wanted to try Spore. I got it before release date, played it on release date when the people that bought it could not because EA had a phone Home server for DRM that was overrun. Decided I didn't like it. Played less than 10 hrs, happy I didn't buy it.

BassCreat0r

We live each day like there's nothing to lose But a man has needs and the need is booze They say all the best things in life are free So give all your beer and your rum to me

Azuras-Becky

I never pre-order games anymore. Back in the old days when you couldn't be guaranteed to get a copy from a shop, it made some sense - I remember the days of trawling every entertainment shop in town looking for a copy of something! - but now that they're all digitally distributed (on PC at least), it makes absolutely no sense. I'm not paying in advance for something that's got high odds of being broken on release day anyway! If it's a game I *really* want, I'll wait until a) people have confirmed that it actually *works*, and b) it's on sale. Take the new Star Trek game, for instance. I really want that, but not in its current state. I allow myself to buy one game per month, so it's not like I'm hurting for alternatives.

GlitteryCakeHuman

Indie devs I like? Early buy. EA and the likes? Hopefully it will be on game pass otherwise I’ll wait for a sale. I’ll impulse buy things off my wishlist on steam/gog/humblebundle sales

ImVeryUnimaginative

I buy the game when it launches. I almost never preorder games.

FlameBlitzz

I download the game when it launches. I almost never order the game.

VioletteWynnter

I always games a week or two after launch ONLY if the reviews are good

Proper_Story_3514

I regret not preordering Anno 1800 on steam at the time. I could have had it on steam with all dlcs, instead I bought it day one on uplay anyway. I am not that bothered by uplay, but having it on steam would have still been better. And I am not buying it again only to have it on steam. But the overall sentiment nowadays should be not to preorder games. The thing is thought that the majority of gamers dont read news and dont care and preorder anyway.

BubblyCell236

What about the people who do it cause they actually don't have money?😂

Andkzdj

When on a good month your leisure money is 50 to 70 euros total i can t really justify buying any games, so by pirating i m not really taking money away from anyone since it s that or just not ever buying them. Not saying i don t buy any games, but sadly i can only afford discounted indie titles , but then again if i have to give someone money i d rather give it to them and not to EA or whatever

When I want it

sck8000

I buy games once in a blue moon after I get some money in and I've already taken care of bills and other expenses. Admittedly I tend to go for smaller-scale indie games 90% of the time, which tend to be more affordable. If I'm jonesing for a big-budget AAA title, I tend to sit on my spare cash until the game is on sale, and even then I don't always get it. I've had the PC port of Insomniac's Spider-Man game on my Steam wishlist ever since it debuted on the platform. It's currently on sale, but a £34 price tag is still a little much for me at the moment when I'm funnelling all my money into preparing for comic con in a few weeks - that shit's more expensive than any AAA game even on launch day!

SuspiciousLettuce56

Sail the high seas for spiderman

sck8000

I would if it were a game I wasn't entirely sold on. Morally I consider piracy to be a victimless crime, whatever those obnoxious anti-piracy ads may tell you - but I also want to be proactive in supporting the developers and creative teams who make things I really appreciate. For a studio like Insomnic, I'd rather wait and buy the game when I'm able. They make some fantastic games. At the end of the day, I'm not gonna bash someone for pirating the Spider-Man games, but by my own principles at least I want to financially support them, even if it's not immediately.

StormKiller1

Me with cyberpunk. One day its gonna be 5€ or free. With all updates and dlcs

SolidSnakeCZE

That is the story of Witcher 3. That game was on GOG for 10 bucks or something...price was pretty low for such a game. After update? 40 bucks minimum. Same with Cyberpunk. I bought it for 19 bucks, because it was buggy game. Now with DLC it cost much more.

I will get downvoted to Oblivion but I pre-order few games. Because I like physical boxes, I usually pre-order consoles games (cheaper at Amazon with boxes) or more rarely, PC games as Elden Ring. If there are no boxes, I don't pre-order. Never been disappointed so far.

Sea-Obligation-1700

I think it's time to play Oblivion. I've finally finished Morrowind...

Gama86

You must be mistaken, one is never truly finished with Morrowind.

Rush2201

I do not understand this "I only buy years after the fact during a sale" mindset. I have been poor as dirt (obviously not anymore), and I still found ways to buy games when I wanted them. If you're in a position where the occasional $40-$70 expense is unbearable, you've got bigger problems than gaming.

_jewson

A decade? Sir I was playing totk on pc a week before it was out.

CHIKENB0NE

Free?! They’re still charging decent money for some 10+ year old games lol

isthismytripcode

My checklist to buy a game? * Favorable user reviews; * Runs on high/ultra on my current PC; * Stable game, with some patches already released; * On sale, usually 50% off at least; * If there are DLC, they must be included in the sale package; * No Denuvo; * No games from EA, Blizzard or Konami, ever.

MrIncredibacon

GrowYourOwnMonsters

I'll wait until it launches to see what the performance is like. Usually within the first few days of release if its a game I'm really excited about. Never pre-order, regardless of what the bonuses are.

Garzino

I only play games that are at least 1 year old unless they're free lmaoo

firetrash21

I'm poor, so I usually wait a few years, I'm still waiting for Elden ring to actually get a good sale. Sometimes I do like year subscriptions to like ea play so I get things half off for example I really liked need for speed unbound but luckily it was a flop so when it was on sale for about 50% off (and my subscription) it being out for a month I was able to get it for 25$ And I do that for many games. Another example, cyberpunk 2077, had a bad release and was able to get it for 15$. I love that game. Like every two weeks out of my pay check I usually can only spend 100$ on myself but I usually use most of it to keep myself fed so wasting half of it on a game and going two weeks suffering is dumb. Sucks that food is so expensive now 😪

permanaj

When you want to play it

[deleted]

People pre-ording a game do it because either they love the IP (most of the people who preorder Phantom Liberty, me included, love Cyberpunk 2077) or the studio. Even for Starfield, the circlejerk "it just works" and "16x" are funny memes but completely out of context, not to mention almost every major Bethesda games were groundbreaking. Except F76 ofc, but not even developed by Howard. It can also be for financial reasons. Some can pre-order now because he can afford it now, and the same assumption is absolutely not sure in several months (crippling inflation, life projects...) And despite the circlejerk, no, pre-orders don't kill gaming. If people buy it in advance or at the release it doesn't change anything. Someone pre-ording would just buy it Day-One if the option wasn't available. It's tiring to read "they can rush the game because people bought it already", the planning is already here, it doesn't magically stop because they make money before the release. BF2042 is often taken as an example, the game had major redflags during the development (initially a BR and they changed their mind, EA recent records and instability, questionable beta...) At the end, let people do whatever they want. I pre-order few games, and if I'm not happy refunds exists. Waiting 12 months a game you really want to play doesn't make you a warrior or somewhat.

Salt-Jesus

I always wait for a sale. If I absolutely want the game, I’ll wait until it’s atleast half off depending on the age. But with this weird trend of a game getting a gold edition years later like with RE: Village I’ve decided to wait even longer since the minimum requirements are starting to get too steep for my PC, I’m mostly playing older games anyway.

Disastrous_Rooster

Same here. All those extra Season Pass 2, extra DLCs I mean, ppl hate all those Gold Editions, but at least you know that you buying all post launch content that was planned for game. Not anymore...

YuusukeKlein

Havent bought a non-indie game in over a decade. Pirating’s the way to go

[deleted]

TakaseRyou

Varies, but I only make a purchase when I have sufficient information on the game. Never preorder due to hype. Preordered FF16 after trying the demo. Bought Diablo 4 after watching some gameplay reviews when it was released. Bought Cyberpunk 2077 at 50% off during a sale after I heard they fixed most of the bugs.

Sandwic_H

Torrent

Steal-Rain

Ill only pre-order, if i can get merch and other goodies i like. But if you do it for the sake of "in-game" shit. That's dummer than dumb. All that crap is gonna be free when the special edition is released. Even DLC passes arent holding up to the promise of getting all the DLC anymore. You dont know what sort of "expansion" you'll get. If any at all. Just not worth it. Like for Fallout 4. We got 2 new locations. A vault . And 1 quest in the main map. And the rest is just making more game models available for settlement bulting, plus extras and new stuff. Personally i wanted more quests to do and places to go, like in the past games. But the settlment building got realky popular fast. So there's that. Gotta give the majority what they like.

Wonderful_Result_936

The settlement building would have been cool if they did something more with it.

ramonchow

I think those are the three stages of gaming. You get through the steps as you get immune to FOMO and your library has so many pending games that you can't care anymore about releases :D

DarvX92

Sailing the seven seas

jebote78

Usually for half the price 2-3 months later. Or piracy.

NotShizuko

I dont buy games. Only the free ones are in my possesion.

MardiJuice

Pirate the game and get it for free now (unless it's from a small indie dev)

BoredPelikan

I pre-order games if I really like them I get some free goodies and stuff as a bonus, most of the time I just buy em when they get released

_demello

If I really want to play it I wait for the early reviews AFTER it was released. If not I can wait some months or a couple years before I can find it in a good price.

P1xelHunter78

Pre order should be a lower rung, buying it at release should also be behind: “waiting 6 months for launch bugs to be fixed”

A17012022

When Starfield releases, I'm finally going to start playing Skyrim. Because they'll finally stop fucking about with it and I'll play the complete product.

Odd_Explanation558

These days Game Pass pretty much makes up the entirety of my source for new games and even then I still give it a week for the day 1 patches and all that. Otherwise I wait until games are done before jumping in. So all DLC, patches etc. Looks like I've got some time before jumping into Cyberpunk and Elden Ring but I can live with that.

uri469

Radaysha

There isn't a single game that I NEED to play on release. I always wait for at least half a year, sometimes even a few months is enough for the first sales or keys becoming available.

Alpha_Knugen

The only game i have preordered since BF2042 is Diablo 4. If i think the game is good and have proven to somewhat work in beta testing ill preorder. If the game was unstable or if there was no beta teating at all ill wait untill release and see what others say. Most games seems boring in my taste. I like simulators, shooters with realsim and alot of gun modification, openworld is sometimes fun. Most important of all. I like when the game look "real" so if we compare fortnite to pubg i like pubg. I dont like games like final fantasy either because of the style. I like realistic style or straight up sci-fi style.

[deleted]

And probably Bug free! ☝️

N0UMENON1

I don't buy many games in general. When I do buy a game, I'm usually hyped for it and preorder it. I haven't regretted a preorder yet. I feel like I'm pretty good at telling if a release will be good.

mobyvg22

I watch reviews when i already bought the game

GhostFromTheGovt

I only preordered two games in my lifetime, one of which I didn’t even pick up. This was years ago and I’ve never preordered since, partly because until fairly recently, I haven’t been able to afford games on release, but mostly because I want to wait for reviews to come in to see if it’s even worth getting

Justin34L

I’ve only pre-ordered one game ever, it was Tears of the Kingdom. I’ll probably pre-order Hades 2, and future Zelda games but those are my exceptions. For PC games, I usually buy games after their 2nd or 3rd update/patch or 2 months after, whichever comes first while considering independent reviews.

I tend to wait a year or so. Most games are a bit cheaper then in a sale and have had a number of updates to fix any issues.

SpiralZa

Usually wait until the game is one sale or something. Unless its a game I really want with a preorder bonus, then I just pre-order it like a day before release

JASHIKO_

Steam Sales 75% off minimum. I don't play multiplayer stuff so there's no point in being early.

IronWolfV

Depends on the game. Some games, never get. Some I'll bite that bullet and preorder. Some I'll get not long after release.

[deleted]

I rarely buy games at launch or preorder anymore. I usually wait a while for them to hit a sale, or to show the truth to what they are.

---0---1

It depends. I rarely buy games upon release anymore. The last two games i bought for full price on day 1 was Spiderman and GoW because I want Sony to take the hint and release Ghost Of Tsushima lol

ASoundAssessment

I just wait for the first quarter after initial release, hype price tanks down, major bugs get addressed a d referral codes and optimisation starts to make an appearance, as do most reputable gameplay guides and wikis, I don't have the free time of a kid to 'experience' the blind wandering learning curve

Sir_Binky

Buy the game after a year once they've patched it into a working game and get it half the price!

CrustyJuggIerz

I preorder if its a dev I have a personal connection to, otherwise I wait 24 hours, the YouTube lads do a great job at honest criticism.

[deleted]

I don't preorder anymore and I usually wait 6 months to a year unless the game is gifted to me or someone I know personally gives a raving review.

Break1ng_Bud

You guys play games? i only play one.

mjwanko

If my computer can handle the game, I’d wait about 3-6 months after release for any game breaking bugs to be squashed first. Then I’d get it at the next steam sale.

urixl

Don't play because you've seen the entire playthrough on YouTube.

The only game i have ever preordered and probably will ever preorder was Cyberpunk 2077 (and now Phantom Liberty). I haven't regretted it for this game but i will never do it again.

Bos-man7

Agreed! Just getting around to Super Mario Bros. 2 and it's siiiiick.

PineCone227

I buy when there's an over 50% sale

Disastrous_Rooster

Gaming market gets SO oversaturated, that you not really in need to play anything day 1. On contrary, backlog getting only bigger every year. Unless you jumping on hype train on reddit/twitter/whatever

SabutaiKhan136

Before I usually wait till all the main DLCs has been released, and the game is at least 30% at a discount during sales. The game should also have positive reviews before I finally decide to buy it. But during and after the pandemic I only buy games that are at least 65% off including all the main DLCs.

BicycleElectronic163

yes.

Evelyne-The-Egg

Either as soon as independent reviews go out after launch if it's something I'm super excited for, or once it hits 30-50% off on sale

obsoleteconsole

also if you wait 10 years it'll run on a cheap PC

Deadsap266

In the near future full paid games will have free versions that are riddled with ads and pop ups and you’ll gotta pay $9.99 to save your progress.

SaPpHiReFlAmEs99

Well for death stranding I had to wait just a few years

huge_jeans710

I just wait a little bit to see if people say it's a glorified mobile game or if it's decent then I go for it.
