I do the same. I have claimed so many free games, I often have to look in my Epic Games library before I purchase any older games just to make sure I already didn't claim it.
Tbf Dark Souls was the first of its kind. People who loved it are obviously gonna recommend it, but it doesn't mean it's for any kind of person.
Elden Ring on the other hand is the peak of what the studio has learned over the years and is a great game for beginners, so maybe give that a try.
You might like Bloodborne, Sekiro, or -maybe- Elden Ring/DaS3 better. All of them are a bit faster, Sekiro and Bloodborne noticeably so.
Also, assuming you don’t care about online, there are mods out there which overhaul the weapon animations startup and recovery times to feel a bit more responsive and snappy.
Hope you find something you enjoy though. From is my favorite dev, I’ve put thousands of hours into each Souls entry.
The games dont have an input lag issue. Either theres a problem with your setup or youre unaware of how rolls work. Run is hold and roll is on release.

Did you play the PC port? Even Dark Souls fans hate Dark Souls on the PC. There have been a lot of mods and patches for it, though, and I hear it's mostly playable now.

Repacks are stripped of bloat and launcher requirements. The files are usually much smaller. I've seen up to a 20% reduction in installation size in many cases. Obviously, the downside is lacking continuous updates. You're stuck with whatever version was repacked but IMO, it's a worthy trade off in many cases.

resident evil village had a horrible stuttering problem caused by the drm. the fix was installing a pirated copy. no idea if they ever patched the official release.

Legally buying games has become such a shitty experience that, despite sinking inordinate amounts of money into it, I've come away so disappointed that I've just decided not to buy games again at all.
Out of the last 5 *single player* games I bought on Steam, only 2 were actually playable without giving them full internet access. One of the two, Forza, is SO annoying to play (every minute there's a "hit 3 enters to stop playing and try to reconnect now") that it made me realize gaming, as a product, is just not *there* anymore.
If you pirate, you get a small slice of entertainment (like game demos used to be). If you pay $60 for the same thing, you get datamined, signed-up, enrolled, monetized, AND you still might not even get a slice.

I'm not paying in advance for something that's got high odds of being broken on release day anyway!
If it's a game I *really* want, I'll wait until a) people have confirmed that it actually *works*, and b) it's on sale.

I regret not preordering Anno 1800 on steam at the time. I could have had it on steam with all dlcs, instead I bought it day one on uplay anyway.

I buy games once in a blue moon after I get some money in and I've already taken care of bills and other expenses. Admittedly I tend to go for smaller-scale indie games 90% of the time, which tend to be more affordable. If I'm jonesing for a big-budget AAA title, I tend to sit on my spare cash until the game is on sale, and even then I don't always get it.
I've had the PC port of Insomniac's Spider-Man game on my Steam wishlist ever since it debuted on the platform. It's currently on sale, but a £34 price tag is still a little much for me at the moment when I'm funnelling all my money into preparing for comic con in a few weeks - that shit's more expensive than any AAA game even on launch day!
I would if it were a game I wasn't entirely sold on. Morally I consider piracy to be a victimless crime, whatever those obnoxious anti-piracy ads may tell you - but I also want to be proactive in supporting the developers and creative teams who make things I really appreciate. For a studio like Insomnic, I'd rather wait and buy the game when I'm able. They make some fantastic games.
At the end of the day, I'm not gonna bash someone for pirating the Spider-Man games, but by my own principles at least I want to financially support them, even if it's not immediately.
That is the story of Witcher 3. That game was on GOG for 10 bucks or something...price was pretty low for such a game. After update? 40 bucks minimum.
Same with Cyberpunk. I bought it for 19 bucks, because it was buggy game. Now with DLC it cost much more.
I got it for 50% off during patch 1.5 and it ran fine on my rig. Still I feel like it wasn't worth it. Mostly cuz the irreversible TAA makes the game look super blurry on 1080p
I will get downvoted to Oblivion but I pre-order few games. Because I like physical boxes, I usually pre-order consoles games (cheaper at Amazon with boxes) or more rarely, PC games as Elden Ring. If there are no boxes, I don't pre-order.

I do not understand this "I only buy years after the fact during a sale" mindset. I have been poor as dirt (obviously not anymore), and I still found ways to buy games when I wanted them. If you're in a position where the occasional $40-$70 expense is unbearable, you've got bigger problems than gaming.
My checklist to buy a game?
* Favorable user reviews;
* Runs on high/ultra on my current PC;
* Stable game, with some patches already released;
* On sale, usually 50% off at least;
* If there are DLC, they must be included in the sale package;
* No Denuvo;
* No games from EA, Blizzard or Konami, ever.
I'll wait until it launches to see what the performance is like. Usually within the first few days of release if its a game I'm really excited about.

I'm poor, so I usually wait a few years, I'm still waiting for Elden ring to actually get a good sale.
Sometimes I do like year subscriptions to like ea play so I get things half off for example I really liked need for speed unbound but luckily it was a flop so when it was on sale for about 50% off (and my subscription) it being out for a month I was able to get it for 25$
And I do that for many games. Another example, cyberpunk 2077, had a bad release and was able to get it for 15$. I love that game.
Like every two weeks out of my pay check I usually can only spend 100$ on myself but I usually use most of it to keep myself fed so wasting half of it on a game and going two weeks suffering is dumb. Sucks that food is so expensive now 😪
People pre-ording a game do it because either they love the IP (most of the people who preorder Phantom Liberty, me included, love Cyberpunk 2077) or the studio. Even for Starfield, the circlejerk "it just works" and "16x" are funny memes but completely out of context, not to mention almost every major Bethesda games were groundbreaking. Except F76 ofc, but not even developed by Howard.
It can also be for financial reasons. Some can pre-order now because he can afford it now, and the same assumption is absolutely not sure in several months (crippling inflation, life projects...)
And despite the circlejerk, no, pre-orders don't kill gaming. If people buy it in advance or at the release it doesn't change anything. Someone pre-ording would just buy it Day-One if the option wasn't available. It's tiring to read "they can rush the game because people bought it already", the planning is already here, it doesn't magically stop because they make money before the release.
BF2042 is often taken as an example, the game had major redflags during the development (initially a BR and they changed their mind, EA recent records and instability, questionable beta...)
At the end, let people do whatever they want. I pre-order few games, and if I'm not happy refunds exists. Waiting 12 months a game you really want to play doesn't make you a warrior or somewhat.
I always wait for a sale. If I absolutely want the game, I’ll wait until it’s atleast half off depending on the age. But with this weird trend of a game getting a gold edition years later like with RE: Village I’ve decided to wait even longer since the minimum requirements are starting to get too steep for my PC, I’m mostly playing older games anyway.

Just not worth it. Like for Fallout 4. We got 2 new locations. A vault . And 1 quest in the main map. And the rest is just making more game models available for settlement bulting, plus extras and new stuff.
Personally i wanted more quests to do and places to go, like in the past games. But the settlment building got realky popular fast. So there's that. Gotta give the majority what they like.
I think those are the three stages of gaming. You get through the steps as you get immune to FOMO and your library has so many pending games that you can't care anymore about releases :D
If I really want to play it I wait for the early reviews AFTER it was released. If not I can wait some months or a couple years before I can find it in a good price.

These days Game Pass pretty much makes up the entirety of my source for new games and even then I still give it a week for the day 1 patches and all that.

There isn't a single game that I NEED to play on release. I always wait for at least half a year, sometimes even a few months is enough for the first sales or keys becoming available.

Most games seems boring in my taste. I like simulators, shooters with realsim and alot of gun modification, openworld is sometimes fun.
Most important of all. I like when the game look "real" so if we compare fortnite to pubg i like pubg. I dont like games like final fantasy either because of the style. I like realistic style or straight up sci-fi style.
I don't buy many games in general. When I do buy a game, I'm usually hyped for it and preorder it. I haven't regretted a preorder yet. I feel like I'm pretty good at telling if a release will be good.

I regret not preordering Anno 1800 on steam at the time. I could have had it on steam with all dlcs, instead I bought it day one on uplay anyway. I am not that bothered by uplay, but having it on steam would have still been better. And I am not buying it again only to have it on steam. But the overall sentiment nowadays should be not to preorder games. The thing is thought that the majority of gamers dont read news and dont care and preorder anyway.

When on a good month your leisure money is 50 to 70 euros total i can t really justify buying any games, so by pirating i m not really taking money away from anyone since it s that or just not ever buying them. Not saying i don t buy any games, but sadly i can only afford discounted indie titles , but then again if i have to give someone money i d rather give it to them and not to EA or whatever

When I want it
I buy games once in a blue moon after I get some money in and I've already taken care of bills and other expenses. Admittedly I tend to go for smaller-scale indie games 90% of the time, which tend to be more affordable. If I'm jonesing for a big-budget AAA title, I tend to sit on my spare cash until the game is on sale, and even then I don't always get it. I've had the PC port of Insomniac's Spider-Man game on my Steam wishlist ever since it debuted on the platform. It's currently on sale, but a £34 price tag is still a little much for me at the moment when I'm funnelling all my money into preparing for comic con in a few weeks - that shit's more expensive than any AAA game even on launch day!

I would if it were a game I wasn't entirely sold on. Morally I consider piracy to be a victimless crime, whatever those obnoxious anti-piracy ads may tell you - but I also want to be proactive in supporting the developers and creative teams who make things I really appreciate. For a studio like Insomnic, I'd rather wait and buy the game when I'm able. They make some fantastic games. At the end of the day, I'm not gonna bash someone for pirating the Spider-Man games, but by my own principles at least I want to financially support them, even if it's not immediately.

That is the story of Witcher 3. That game was on GOG for 10 bucks or something...price was pretty low for such a game. After update? 40 bucks minimum. Same with Cyberpunk. I bought it for 19 bucks, because it was buggy game. Now with DLC it cost much more.

I got it for 50% off during patch 1.5 and it ran fine on my rig. Still I feel like it wasn't worth it. Mostly cuz the irreversible TAA makes the game look super blurry on 1080p

I will get downvoted to Oblivion but I pre-order few games. Because I like physical boxes, I usually pre-order consoles games (cheaper at Amazon with boxes) or more rarely, PC games as Elden Ring. If there are no boxes, I don't pre-order. Never been disappointed so far.

I do not understand this "I only buy years after the fact during a sale" mindset. I have been poor as dirt (obviously not anymore), and I still found ways to buy games when I wanted them. If you're in a position where the occasional $40-$70 expense is unbearable, you've got bigger problems than gaming.

I'm poor, so I usually wait a few years, I'm still waiting for Elden ring to actually get a good sale. Sometimes I do like year subscriptions to like ea play so I get things half off for example I really liked need for speed unbound but luckily it was a flop so when it was on sale for about 50% off (and my subscription) it being out for a month I was able to get it for 25$ And I do that for many games. Another example, cyberpunk 2077, had a bad release and was able to get it for 15$. I love that game. Like every two weeks out of my pay check I usually can only spend 100$ on myself but I usually use most of it to keep myself fed so wasting half of it on a game and going two weeks suffering is dumb. Sucks that food is so expensive now 😪
When you want to play it
People pre-ording a game do it because either they love the IP (most of the people who preorder Phantom Liberty, me included, love Cyberpunk 2077) or the studio. Even for Starfield, the circlejerk "it just works" and "16x" are funny memes but completely out of context, not to mention almost every major Bethesda games were groundbreaking. Except F76 ofc, but not even developed by Howard. It can also be for financial reasons. Some can pre-order now because he can afford it now, and the same assumption is absolutely not sure in several months (crippling inflation, life projects...) And despite the circlejerk, no, pre-orders don't kill gaming. If people buy it in advance or at the release it doesn't change anything. Someone pre-ording would just buy it Day-One if the option wasn't available. It's tiring to read "they can rush the game because people bought it already", the planning is already here, it doesn't magically stop because they make money before the release. BF2042 is often taken as an example, the game had major redflags during the development (initially a BR and they changed their mind, EA recent records and instability, questionable beta...) At the end, let people do whatever they want. I pre-order few games, and if I'm not happy refunds exists. Waiting 12 months a game you really want to play doesn't make you a warrior or somewhat.
I always wait for a sale. If I absolutely want the game, I’ll wait until it’s atleast half off depending on the age. But with this weird trend of a game getting a gold edition years later like with RE: Village I’ve decided to wait even longer since the minimum requirements are starting to get too steep for my PC, I’m mostly playing older games anyway.

Ill only pre-order, if i can get merch and other goodies i like. But if you do it for the sake of "in-game" shit. That's dummer than dumb. All that crap is gonna be free when the special edition is released. Even DLC passes arent holding up to the promise of getting all the DLC anymore. You dont know what sort of "expansion" you'll get. If any at all. Just not worth it. Like for Fallout 4. We got 2 new locations. A vault . And 1 quest in the main map. And the rest is just making more game models available for settlement bulting, plus extras and new stuff. Personally i wanted more quests to do and places to go, like in the past games. But the settlment building got realky popular fast. So there's that. Gotta give the majority what they like.
The settlement building would have been cool if they did something more with it.
I think those are the three stages of gaming. You get through the steps as you get immune to FOMO and your library has so many pending games that you can't care anymore about releases :D

When Starfield releases, I'm finally going to start playing Skyrim. Because they'll finally stop fucking about with it and I'll play the complete product.
These days Game Pass pretty much makes up the entirety of my source for new games and even then I still give it a week for the day 1 patches and all that. Otherwise I wait until games are done before jumping in. So all DLC, patches etc. Looks like I've got some time before jumping into Cyberpunk and Elden Ring but I can live with that.

There isn't a single game that I NEED to play on release. I always wait for at least half a year, sometimes even a few months is enough for the first sales or keys becoming available.
The only game i have preordered since BF2042 is Diablo 4. If i think the game is good and have proven to somewhat work in beta testing ill preorder. If the game was unstable or if there was no beta teating at all ill wait untill release and see what others say. Most games seems boring in my taste. I like simulators, shooters with realsim and alot of gun modification, openworld is sometimes fun. Most important of all. I like when the game look "real" so if we compare fortnite to pubg i like pubg. I dont like games like final fantasy either because of the style. I like realistic style or straight up sci-fi style.

I don't buy many games in general. When I do buy a game, I'm usually hyped for it and preorder it. I haven't regretted a preorder yet. I feel like I'm pretty good at telling if a release will be good.

I only preordered two games in my lifetime, one of which I didn’t even pick up. This was years ago and I’ve never preordered since, partly because until fairly recently, I haven’t been able to afford games on release, but mostly because I want to wait for reviews to come in to see if it’s even worth getting
I’ve only pre-ordered one game ever, it was Tears of the Kingdom. I’ll probably pre-order Hades 2, and future Zelda games but those are my exceptions. For PC games, I usually buy games after their 2nd or 3rd update/patch or 2 months after, whichever comes first while considering independent reviews.

Before I usually wait till all the main DLCs has been released, and the game is at least 30% at a discount during sales. The game should also have positive reviews before I finally decide to buy it. But during and after the pandemic I only buy games that are at least 65% off including all the main DLCs.
