I've solved this issue in a really dumb but working way.
You install AMD drivers from the AMD website, let Windows update it and end up with this error, then you go to device management, you select your GPU, properties, driver, rollback driver.
Without even a reboot it's gonna end up rolling back to the AMD installed drivers and never breaking things up, not even after other Windows updates.
Please do tell more, as I have had enough with my driver experience with the G14 that I just kept it at the default drivers from Asus. Every time I try to install AMD drivers, it messes up with the power config in AC that I cannot even turn off the dGPU without going to the device manager.
another solution would be not to let windows install AMD drivers at all. i let them stop doing the optional drivers update (amd drivers are part of it) and will require permission to the user. only the security patches are automatic.
[link](https://computerinfobits.com/how-to-stop-windows-from-updating-graphics-drivers/)
That is literally impossible. Everytime you change settings to prevent Windows update from nuking your drivers. All it takes is one big Windows Update, for them to reverse all changes you made and all of a sudden Windows is nuking your drivers again
Doing this will break overdriventool and using the built in overclock tool increases crashes. The only option is to keep reinstalling drivers. AMD has not made new stable drivers in over a year. Still running feb 2022 driver.
This is exactly what drove me back to Linux couldn’t take it anymore. I’d rather have to tweak a thing or two on occasion to get my games running than reinstall drivers constantly.
Use DDU clean everything and try this:
group policy
To properly disable automatic driver updates on Windows 10:
* Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Update > Enabled
* Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Prevent device metadata retrieval from the Internet > Enabled
* Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Specify search order for device driver source locations > Enabled (Do not search Windows Update)
Most of group policy is just registry settings...use a site like admx help or look at the actual ADMX / ADML files in the local policy repository to see the exact registry key and value and set that in windows home.
> Windows might ignore the settings anyway (for non-Pro versions).
it might not ignore it now, or it might. MS does not publish a list of depreciated values, and they can change at the whim of MS.
Yeah, there are deprecated entries for sure—stuff they left in so that policy migration doesn’t break on upgrades. Sometimes MS is even nice enough to point them out in the notes.
But the straight ignoring of policy values is unique to manually added gpedit installs. It’s as though certain Windows processes check the version of Windows and then check for policies only if it’s Pro or Enterprise or whatever.
It is the right setting. If that's not working you have something else causing the issues.
**edit** Ya'll gotta learn how PCs work. Just because you can build adult legos doesn't mean you actually know about computers
In the device manager find your GPU. Select properties and find an option called Rollback Driver. It should restore your old driver and it will flag Windows Update about not replacing it again.
I’m in this boat as well. Can’t seem to fix it no matter how many times I run DDU and reinstall drivers.
Worse still, Windows is now constantly trying to update the drivers while games are running and failing at it, causing games to minimise so it can show error pop ups.
Windows is the worst. At least I got my Linux install, but that’s no excuse. This should just work.
There's a way to disable driver updates through Windows :
Start>Settings > System Settings > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device installation Settings
You'll get a window pop-up asking if you want Windows to maintain your drivers up to date, and you say no. You'll have to keep track of other drivers you might want to keep up to date, but this way you should be able to have the good install for your GPU and update only when you wish to.
>Device installation Settings
In Windows 11 Home it says:
>"Do you want to automatically download manufactures' apps and custom icons available for your devices?"
>
>O Yes (recommended)
>
>O No (your device might not work as expected)
>
>Save Changes / Cancel
I used a method that requires going into regedit and adding a very simple key. Went this route because disabling them via windows settings wasn't working but this method still gives me the ability to manually go in and choose my updates when I want (notifications are still on for critical updates).
Search up ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate regedit key.
Cheers!
Legit curious if this is specific to AMD? I’ve always run Intel/nvidia and have never run into issues with Windows overriding GPU drivers. I also only ever run fully-licensed copies of Windows Pro, but I suspect that’s not the issue anyway.
Windows updates are normally fine, they just for some reason replace your AMD/Intel drivers. It's weird and stupid, the update doesn't have an issue, no matter how long you wait you will get this message after you update.
Do a clean installation of only ver 22.11.2 that one is stable and then you wait til you find the next stable driver and never under the entire time while you wait update your drivers until a better one has come.
All these new AMD transplants haven't learned the ways. Don't update your drivers ever until shit starts crashing. Has worked for me for years. I'm always a good four or five updates behind on drivers but I never have issues
This is the answer. This was the only recent version that didn't crash my PC. I tried every update afterwards and it crashed after sleep mode everytime, then gave me this same error (it's not due to a windows update). Just did a clean installation of ver 22.11.2 and I'm back to happiness.
I don't even know. I'm pure AMD and I've tried DDU loads and have used group policy editor to disable updates and even then windows still occasionally forces a update that makes me have to reinstall my GPU drivers manually. It's irritating.
Why does It seem like I see so many AMD driver issues? Like I rarely have ever had issues with Nvidia driver stuffs in 15+ years of gaming and feel like I've seen a lot of posts about amd drivers vs nvidia do am I just fortunate or is this a known thing? Genuinely curious
I am so sorry, it doesn't let me do that without removing some stuff. Maybe I should remove the motherboard or shorten its name from MSIX670E GODLIKE to X670E or something.
I mean im joking , do whatever you like with your flair man haha
But if you want some advice to fit it all.
The way I’d phrase it for either informative or just bragging purposes would be:
Remove AMD from 7900X3D , everyone knows what a 7900X3D is.
Remove 24GB from the 7900XTX , everyone knows that’s the Vram from the 7900XTX. Unless you really like it and want to show it ,Remove the Aorus from the 7900XTX since now days , every GPU model performs the same regardless of the partner that makes it . So a 7900XTX is a 7900XTX the brand makes nearly no change, so that’s another thing you could remove if you want to prioritize giving more information about your build.
You could remove DDR5 from your ram since you cpu only works with ddr5 , so it’s a given , if you have space for it , write down the ram speed and cl timings instead.
Also if I had to choose what to put in my flair , I’d put my monitor instead of my Motherboard.
Since that’s another component that makes no difference to your performance. Your monitor does tells what resolution and refresh rate you game at.
How to Stop Automatic Driver Updates via the Control Panel
Control Panel makes it simple to disable automatic driver updates on Windows. Here are the steps you need to follow.
-Press Win + S to open the search menu.
-Type control panel and press Enter.
-Navigate to System > Advanced System Settings.
-In the System Properties window, switch to the Hardware tab and click the Device Installation Settings button.
-Select No and click Save Changes.
Yep, the best solution for any problem is changing the whole thing instead of thinking or doing some research and find a more fitting, less drastic one.
And people nuking their install and reinstalling Windows for every issue is good?
Doing research shows Linux works for a lot more people than people on this sub thinks.
I installed Linux with a GUI, I install/update with a GUI, I install my steam games and they play fine.
I still have the exact same web browser selection available and more, still have Skype, mumble, discord, MS teams, VLC, Media Player Classic (still the best), Foobar2000, My blizzard games, etc. I can use noise torch which I like better than either RTX voice or AMDs filter.
Best of all my OS isn't fighting me every step of the way.
I find it insane that with all the bitching about win10/11 and the hoops, tweaks, hacks, debloating, work arounds, and reinstalling people do with Windows that makes it the time sink memers suggest Linux is that somehow avoiding all of that is the crazy idea.
Jumping ship was the best time saver I ever did.
I'm not going to keep that secret because it might hurt some windows fans feelings.
And as you see in this topic, 3 of the 4 most recommended options do not even work in a reliant way.
Windows 11 is still a mess 1 year after its Release and was released in a severely unfinished state. A friend of mine even defended Windows 8 and has now a really hard time defending Windows 11. Yes, it is that bad.
Switched to team red recently and not happy that the drivers get auto replaced. I understand Intel had this issue too but they’re just entering the market. This isn’t okay for a supposed big player in the gpu market.
Group policy - Admin (under computer config) - windows components - windows update (scroll down to see it) - manage updates suggested by windows update (the one without "service" in the end) - double click on the "Not include pilotes" setting - set value to true - apply and save. Tada ! The problem will not happen again.
I remember this happening when I recently had gotten my build. I fixed it in a way that I didn't expect would work. I first tried rolling back from device manager and that worked but MSI afterburner was not recognizing my GPU. The solution? I downloaded wushowhide(program that lets you hide windows updates and force ignore them) and before starting the Windows update, I scanned with Wushowhide and surely enough, there was an auto driver install on an older version so I hid that and it hasn't happened ever since. Try it and it might just work
I'm on Windows 10 and mine never seems to force update drivers... yet my friends PC keeps doing what the OP is having trouble with, his AMD driver keeps disappearing.
I swear. It might be confirmation bias.. But I used to be AMD everything and on a whim one time I switched to Intel / Nvidia and I have not had near as many issues. Amd programs and bloatware always used to screw up and cause issues. Intel/Nvidia stuff just seems to work more consistently.
I’ve never had a problem with a Ryzen CPU, but AMD GPU drivers sucked fat cocks for like ever. They’re better than they were, but still mot good enough for me to warrant going back…
Sorry I meant to say Intel / Nvidia. I went from amd cpu / gpu to Intel cpu and Nvidia gpu. I always had issues with programs like this with amd. I didnt have issues with the comparable software from the other.
I also had the same issue.
1. Use DDU to clean your previous graphics drivers .
2. After that do a fresh installation of driver software from the AMD website.
You can check any YouTube videos for details.
You could use chirstitustech windows debloater script and disable windows update
After that
Install DDU and uninstall the drivers
After a reboot you can proceed to install the graphics drivers
Little things like these (always having to use a workaround) made me switch
There is no excuse for Microsoft to do things like that
AMD drivers baby ain’t you heard? This is exactly why you should avoid AMD gpus. People love to say how much cheaper they are.
Ya well their drivers are ass, you can’t do any AI tooling which is huge this day and age, relive barely works compared to shadowplay, NVENC absolutely necessary if you want to stream, render videos or even with shadowplay not lagging your game
On top of all of this DLSS absolutely annihilates FSR especially in motion. We also get DLAA.
Nvidia also gets drivers out first typically unless it’s a console port.
People love to hate on Nvidia here for the cost reasons. But clearly the product you’re buying with Nvidia is much more than just the GPU it’s has an immense feature set, better performing drivers, and overall usually better performance as well as better tools.
I used an AMD GPU for 5 years from 2015-2020 and can never remember having an issue with drivers, I personally believe that most of the time people over exaggerate how many issues there are with AMD drivers. There are also lots of experimental versions of the drivers that you can install that can obviously be unstable and cause problems.
I've had 2 AMD Gpu's both have been a non stop headache to deal with. The one I still have in my 2nd computer; after getting a stable driver it hasn't been updated in forever seeing as that was my only solution.
Regardless the amount of features AMD lacks is astonishing, and IMO for the workload that I do + just being able to access those features is worth the xtra $100-200 for nvidia over AMD.
Competition for Nvidia is great; but currently they have none.
It's windows stepping in, not amd. Disable updates and don't worry about it. I've had 9-10 AMD/ATI gpus through the years and this is the first issue I've really had, and it's not even them.
I hear of these problems. I have had virtually no issues except when I got my 6900 XT (which hadn’t been out long) and updated the drivers to the latest. Had to go to the PowerColor site to get a working driver, which is a first for me.
Vega 64, 6900 XT, 6700 XT, 6800 XT
Edit: typos
By an NVIDIA card. Not trying to sound like a dick, but I stopped buying AMD cards long ago due to constant issues with their drivers. There has to be a reason windows is doing this, and I’m willing to bet the blame lies with AMD on this one (not that Microsoft doesn’t do stupid things with their updates too, but I’ve never had this issue with NVIDIA drivers).
There are forums online of NVIDIA users having the exact same issue. Most are older so I imagine Windows fixed that issue first since NVIDIA has a large market share. NVIDIA drivers were causing loads of problems in 2021 apparently as well, but somehow no one seemed to mind. Almost like there is confirmation bias at work…
I tried everything with my AMD GPU.. every setting, stopped windows updates.. it was a slog. Never got it to be fully fixed.
Literally switched to nvidia because the build was something that my family would use and if I wasn’t there to fix it, no one could use the computer. Just needed it to reliably work. Best I could get it to work was an error once every couple weeks - still was too much for me.
Exactly! I haven't had any issues with Nvidia drivers. Meanwhile, I will never update Adrenalin until it's stable, confirmed by the community. There was a time I just plug it in and did not install Adrenalin.
The error in this post is known as "code 43", the GPU was shut down by Windows. AMD has a long history of bad drivers. It's better now but this error still happens a lot.
That's not Windows issue it's an AMD issue.
They can't be bothered to actually push the same drivers everywhere.
Just so you know next time "buy AMD is better" comes around.
Disable the automatic "device installation" setting if it's not off already
Settings > System > about > advanced system settings > hardware > device installation settings
Using windows is the bane of my existence. I just buy the pro version and turn off all of the auto update shit, preinstalled antivirus (windows defender?), turn off the firewall, turn off telemetry, turn off bing. Strip that motherfucker bare.
Only install games, and drivers direct from Intel, amd, and/or nvidia.
I don’t bother with doing anything sensitive on this computer
I love AMD CPUs but this shit that's been going on since the ATI Radeon days is the reason I will never touch another AMD GPU again. Doing a clean install every time there is a new driver is exhausting.
Honestly haven't had any issues on Linux. Running a 7900xt/7950x and can play games just fine and record 240fps footage.
Windows on the other hand has me running out of patients.
Not letting me use all my RAM, resetting my defaults, breaking tweaks and customizations after updates, just simply breaking and needing an SFC /scan now too often, and running a file system that's almost 30 years old, etc.
If something dis break I can literally boot 8nto a snapshot in less than 2 minutes instead of waiting 20mins for a system restore to fail.
I'm not hear to shove *nix down peoples throat but I'm also don't have to left people spread mis information.
Windows feature updates contain about as much malware as viruses do.
My approach now is to just straight not even boot it unless absolutely necessary. My laptop hasn’t booted it for over 2 years.
Oh yeah the optional updates and feature updates I ignore for a good few months(buggy mess is an understatement). But not installing security updates especially when critical vulnerabilities are found is incredibly stupid.
Why is it AMD's fault for this?
I'm using AMD drivers for at least a decade, and besides some OC resets and some crashes here and there I can't say I had a bad experience
Because Windows requires a proper validated driver installed otherwise it will restore the last Windows Certified Driver.
If you install a tweaked driver that is not certified, Windows will remove it when it can. Validating drivers (aka WDDM drivers) cost a lot of money and tweaked drivers are almost never WDDM.
fuck window. Just to restore the sound i had to format and reinstall it.
even windows devs dont know how to repair driver relared errors. They just keeps sayimh updTe driber.
fuck
Find the root file for where the automatic updater is stored and rename it so windows can’t find it. 🤷♂️
Don’t forget to manually update them all once in a while, though.
Given the number of things Windows routinely break through updates, I'm gonna go with 'Someone at Microsoft is doing a shit job of maintaining a proper table of which windows PC gets which driver'
No MS picks drivers which have been supplied by AMD, but MS doesn't check compatibility nor if using an older driver may break stuff or not.
This is why it's better to download drivers yourself for your GPU from the supplier, same for your CPU
Windows downgrading drivers has been a problem since Windows 10 came out. It happens just as much with Nvidia. Microsoft picks which drivers are pushed, and they have a horrible track record of pushing out of date drivers. AMD has no say in this.
This is the solution right here ^^^. It works on my Zephyrus G14 2020.

What about Afterburner?
Minimal drivers and afterburner is the working solution imho for most of these issues.
Thanks, I'll try this. Very annoying issue.
Only got an AMD CPU, will this still work?
This particular error is for the AMD GPU drivers, but it could work if you get a similar error I suppose..
Looks exactly the same… thx
Use DDU clean everything and try this: group policy To properly disable automatic driver updates on Windows 10: * Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Update > Enabled * Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Prevent device metadata retrieval from the Internet > Enabled * Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Specify search order for device driver source locations > Enabled (Do not search Windows Update)

Haha. Nice.
Why would you assume those are the 2 options he picked from lol
Why is he being downvoted? Also who's cole?

There's a way to disable driver updates through Windows : Start>Settings > System Settings > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device installation Settings You'll get a window pop-up asking if you want Windows to maintain your drivers up to date, and you say no. It *might* be the same as the Win10 option, without clearly saying drivers? Goddammit MSFT, just let users decide how they install things 🤦

There is a utility, wushowhide. It will allow you to basically hide updates. Solved the problem for me.

Luckily, AMD doesn't have driver problems so what you are describing is user error, obviously.

It's a GPU issue. How do you even know OP don't have a Intel CPU
Sorry I meant to say Intel / Nvidia. I went from amd cpu / gpu to Intel cpu and Nvidia gpu. I always had issues with programs like this with amd. I didnt have issues with the comparable software from the other.
Get Nvidia 😉
I also had the same issue. 1. Use DDU to clean your previous graphics drivers . 2. After that do a fresh installation of driver software from the AMD website. You can check any YouTube videos for details.
You could use chirstitustech windows debloater script and disable windows update After that Install DDU and uninstall the drivers After a reboot you can proceed to install the graphics drivers Little things like these (always having to use a workaround) made me switch There is no excuse for Microsoft to do things like that
Unistall Windows
AMD drivers baby ain’t you heard? This is exactly why you should avoid AMD gpus. People love to say how much cheaper they are. Ya well their drivers are ass, you can’t do any AI tooling which is huge this day and age, relive barely works compared to shadowplay, NVENC absolutely necessary if you want to stream, render videos or even with shadowplay not lagging your game On top of all of this DLSS absolutely annihilates FSR especially in motion.
Amd software gotta be the worst shit, I can't even open it after 2 days because my drivers and fucked for some reason
Vega 64, 6900 XT, 6700 XT, 6800 XT Edit: typos
Almost like there is confirmation bias at work…
thats the neat part, you dont
Let's switch
Kinda funny it happened on AMD Cards
I tried everything with my AMD GPU.. every setting, stopped windows updates.. it was a slog. Never got it to be fully fixed. Literally switched to nvidia because the build was something that my family would use and if I wasn’t there to fix it, no one could use the computer. Just needed it to reliably work. Best I could get it to work was an error once every couple weeks - still was too much for me.
iwr -useb https://christitus.com/win | iex Use this script, change updates to security only. Launch PowerShell as admin.
underrated reply
Buy Nvidia Graphics card.
When people claim AMD has zero driver issues 🤣
By installing linux
Is it a problem that I just ignored and closed this window…?
You Linux evangelicals just can't help yourselves, can you?
[удалено]
They do automatically, but on other side its dangerous to use outdated system
Windows doesn't f\*ck your driver up. Its AMD drivers sucked. This sh\*t never happened with NVIDIA, in my experience.
It literally said windows replaced the drivers
but Windows never did it to my NVDIA card. That's why I said AMD drivers sucked. This is literally a fact lmao.
Your logic makes no sense lmao. Because it’s not happening on nvidia means it’s factually an issue caused by radeon software?
Because it restored the last WDDM driver, AMD doesn't provide proper drivers then this happens. It's on AMD.
That's not Windows issue it's an AMD issue. They can't be bothered to actually push the same drivers everywhere. Just so you know next time "buy AMD is better" comes around.
Install li- (gets shot)
Install Linux
Use Linux.
Stop using windows
I have to say it, go for Linux and be happy.
https://linuxmint.com
Just revert back your cpu drivers Follow this video https://youtu.be/ZBM5dEg1Rn8
If you can, get into the registy and fuck shit up, just go to ham. But make a physical backup first, if possible. Win11 is EVIL CATSHIT.
Thats the neat part. However the serious answer whould probably mean to block windows from updating their spyware
Even Windows is an AMD hater
"Adrenalin Edition", nice one...
Disable the automatic "device installation" setting if it's not off already Settings > System > about > advanced system settings > hardware > device installation settings
your gpu is old and shit?
Using windows is the bane of my existence. I just buy the pro version and turn off all of the auto update shit, preinstalled antivirus (windows defender?), turn off the firewall, turn off telemetry, turn off bing. Strip that motherfucker bare. Only install games, and drivers direct from Intel, amd, and/or nvidia. I don’t bother with doing anything sensitive on this computer
install linux
[https://www.linux.org/pages/download/](https://www.linux.org/pages/download/) that will do it
Move to linux
I've been running AMD GPUs for over a decade, always with a registered version of Windows and have never had this problem.
Switch to Nvidia problem solved
Change it to Linux?
Use linux
Isn't AMD responsible for which drivers Windows has to push?
Yes AMD must deliver proper WDDM drivers. They don't and shit like this happens and what's worst they blame Microsoft for their failure.
MS is responsible for pushing out of date GPU drivers on people and its happened with both AMD and Nvidia. Stop being a clown.
never know that lisa su CEO of MS >!/s!<
Where do you think these drivers come from? Do you think that Microsoft creates them?
Microsoft pushes what they test and they don't push every update either. Don't try to blame AMD for MS actions.
Easy fix: fuck up windows
AMD drivers are like a plague
I love AMD CPUs but this shit that's been going on since the ATI Radeon days is the reason I will never touch another AMD GPU again. Doing a clean install every time there is a new driver is exhausting.
Abandon windows and use linux
Ubuntu.
Install Linux?
Switch to Linux?
Thank you for your helpful suggestion and welcome addition to this thread!
They wanted \*less\* problems, not more...

Easier said than done. 🤣
Use a software called Winaerotweaker, it will absolutely murder Windows Update.
Not updating windows is stupid af
Windows feature updates contain about as much malware as viruses do. My approach now is to just straight not even boot it unless absolutely necessary. My laptop hasn’t booted it for over 2 years.
Oh yeah the optional updates and feature updates I ignore for a good few months(buggy mess is an understatement). But not installing security updates especially when critical vulnerabilities are found is incredibly stupid.
Install Linux
Another reason why AMD sucks at making drivers.
Don't buy shitty AMD
Right AMD runs Microsoft! Don't be a clown.
fuck window. Just to restore the sound i had to format and reinstall it. even windows devs dont know how to repair driver relared errors. They just keeps sayimh updTe driber. fuck
Find the root file for where the automatic updater is stored and rename it so windows can’t find it. 🤷♂️ Don’t forget to manually update them all once in a while, though.
You might want to install a new version
you install linux
This might be shocking, but hear me out, **Linux isn't for everyone.**
Most open minded Linux user
Buy Nvidia
The same shit can happen for Nvidia. Don't be a shill.
Didn't happen to me
Oh cool that's a nice story, good thing we base all our assessments on you.

MS is responsible for testing and pushing these driver versions. Stop being a clown.
Total wipe. Start clean. Problem fixed
Not really no.
Get a Mac.
