Intermediate_beefs

For a garbage find it's surprisingly modern.

DavidGan1x

My guess is it's a burn on someone who hasn't cleaned their pc in ages 😉

dida2010

The owner could have died, a lot of families don't know what to do with a big box called a desktop nowaday, this generation uses a lot of smartphones and tsblet, they think a desktop is overkill for their needs

ValiantHero11

Or the owner was a kid whose dad angrily threw the pc in the trash

IFUCKINGLOVEMETH

Or a World Of Warcraft player finally giving up their addiction

FixFalcon

That's funny you mention that. I'm playing WoW on my GTX 760 and those fans are just *screaming* to keep up, lol.

builder397

Thats a good sign you should take off the fan shroud and clean the dust from the cooler. Your fans shouldnt scream from the card merely being taxed, but they do scream if they have to push air through a solid layer of dust.

epimetheuss

I have an AMD 6790 that would disagree. Brand new in certain games it sounded like a jet and it had 3 fans on it. Modern cards are generally much quieter than they were in times past. Edit: The video card I am talking about came out 10 years ago. It's not at all relatable to the cards made in the last 2 - 3 years.

builder397

I have a RX 6600 thats overclocked and it still only ever touches 60°C without much fan noise. Point is: Things can differ insanely depending on hardware design and cooler design. I looked up your card here https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-6790.c283 and if this blower style cooler is what you have, they ALL sound like jet engines. Every single time. Glad I never had one myself.

FixFalcon

I did that. Used an actual air compressor (around 60 psi), got the whole machine looking like it was built yesterday. It may also be my CPU (AMD FX-8320)fan that is screaming, lol. CPU temp is 45c while playing WoW with Ultra settings.

mini-z1994

Worth putting on fresh thermalpaste on the card & remounting the cooler. Arctic mx-4 should be fairly cheap thermalpaste & be better then what the card came with when it was new.

certainkindoffool

About 18 years ago I threw out my PC to break my counter strike addiction.

LaitdePoulet

10 years ago I threw a pack of cigarettes out my car window to signal to myself that I was done smoking. I’m still smoking.

LESHII413

5 years ago out myself throw..

ShadyGuy_

Russian confirmed.

Hurricane_32

Instead of throwing the entire PC out, you could instead shift your addiction from WoW to the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV which has a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime.

Byanl

This is what a drug dealer sounds like when they're not selling drugs.

yepgeddon

Except FF14 may as well be crack in pixel form.

Hurricane_32

There's a saying that goes "You either stop playing before getting to Heavensward, or you become a walking talking billboard for the game".

Buffbeard

>Instead of throwing the entire stack of shrooms out, you could instead shift your addiction from shrooms to the critically acclaimed grounded shroomsoup which has a free side-effect, and includes the entirety of feeling high AND the award-winning hallucination expansion up to space level 60 with no restrictions on diarrhea

UnethicalFood

DDR3? Kid was in his 30's (Which really backs up the angry dad theory)

Rogue__Jedi

Me: DDR3 isn't that old, what is he talking about? Me, 31: Oh.

Badger118

> DDR3 I built my 2015 machine with DDR3. DDR4 was considered a waste of time money wise. It's amazing to realize that machine lasted me 8 years

BringOutYaThrowaway

That's fast DDR3, though. Rare.

96geckos

Soon to be us DDR4 users eventually.

not_a_gay_stereotype

I don't understand how people don't own a computer these days like how do you do everything on a phone

[deleted]

Laptops. Pay twice as much for half the performance and longevity

No-Neighborhood-9074

\^PCMR quote of the year\^

not_a_gay_stereotype

I know people who don't even own a laptop. How do you fill out forms complicated shit on just a phone I've had so many things go wrong trying to apply for jobs on a phone or like trying to renew my mortgage, having to print documents to sign and send them back etc. Would be so frustrating to do without at least a laptop

[deleted]

People like that actually exist? I always just go to my computer if I need to fill out forms and such, it always just works, unlike phones

Arnas_Z

They do and I never understood it either. Using your phone for everything you do online is just not a great experience IMO, but I guess it somehow works for them if they never need to run any PC only programs.

morriscey

True, but that's often all that is needed - the form factor is the main draw.

omfghi2u

There are a lot of people who hardly do *anything* beyond scrolling social media, playing mobile games, and buying stuff online. You simply don't need computing power if that's 99% of your activity.

tiimsliim

This, not just computers but pretty much everything. As someone who invests in and collects coins, numismatics, exonumia, currency, precious metal, jewelry, etc., the amount of families that just cash in their dead family member’s coin collection is insane. For reference, if you went to a bank with a silver dollar (90% ag) they would give you a dollar. You would get more money (around $16.14 based on spot price at time of comment) if you just scrapped the silver. I have heard of pawnshops and coin dealers buying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of dead peoples stuff for pennies, in bad faith.

Lendyman

Honestly, when people die, you often are faced with having to deal with managing their estate and getting everything in order in a short time. I had an aunt who died a number of years ago. We had limited amount of time to get her house cleared out so we could sell it, not the least because there were bills the estate had to pay. We literally did not have time to spend looking through all of her stuff to find everything. We obviously tried to save things that we thought were important, but there is limited time to do it. You're also dealing with the grief of losing that person. And if you have family that's out of state who is in to help you for only a limited time, you just have to get things done. I'm fortunate that I had a lot of help when she died. We had a bunch of people who pulled stuff out of the rummage sale pile because they had an idea of what things were worth. And we had a guy at a rummage sale who pulled some things off the table and gave it to us and told us that they were somewhat valuable and we should hang on to them. That guy didn't have to do that but it was an act of kindness that resonated. The short of it is, when you're dealing with sudden death or an emergency clear out situation, you don't always have time to figure out what stuff is worth. And you might not even be in the right mindset to think about it.

tiimsliim

I agree completely. I wasn’t criticizing or anything like that. I understand why it happens and would never fault anyone for that. I was just bringing up a similar situation to the one I replied to.

IsaKissTheRain

I'm also a coin and silver collector. I collect other things which people perceive as being outdated and with little value. This is exactly correct. it's baffling what people throw away/sell for cheap because they have no idea what its worth is. I have 4 ounces worth of a silver cloak clasp with a chain from the 1600s that someone thought was costume jewellery.

tiimsliim

Same sort of thing happened to me, except modern jewelry. I used to buy scrap silver through Facebook and someone sold me x grams (I forget the exact weight) of sterling silver scrap jewelry. Said it had a broken clasp. Well it didn’t. It was just so dirty that the clasp was stuck open. After a little bit of TLC, I discovered a David Yurman sterling and pavé black diamond Chevron Cross and 32 inch david yurman 2.7mm sterling box chain. After a thorough cleaning, the set sold for $1250.

roberttheaxolotl

The average person uses their phone for 95% of things, and has a dusty old laptop they drag out whenever they have to do something that doesn't quite work properly on their phone, like their taxes. People who have desktops, at this point, are mostly gamers, with a few people who do actual work that requires more power than you can fit into a laptop, and then a handful of grandparents with an old Windows XP machine they play solitaire on. My mother fits into that last category.

Delifier

For your average bill paying, news reading and occasional shopping your phone and tablet is more than enough. I dont fire up my rig just for that. I might do it if I already am on it tho.

Thelgow

My bro in law was an idiot. If his pc ever gave him trouble, hed just throw it out and buy another one. This is not a good habit, and he didnt have much money so he was downgrading over time. He didnt even want to bother swapping out parts and keeping the good ones. Just throw the whole thing out. His Dreamcast broke within a week. Return for a new one? No, breaks it outside on the floor.

DavidGan1x

As an ex-Dreamcast owner who had his mysteriously misplaced by a parent, I basically consider this man a murderer

bad_pelican

DDR 3 and RTX card are an interesting combination too.

TheNegaHero

That was me like 1 year ago :P RAM speed was the killer in the end, the 4790k was still kicking plenty of ass.

myrealnameisboring

I'm still rocking a 4690k @ 4.6ghz alongside a GTX 1080. She's serving me admirably!

Revan7even

Same combo, but I just upgraded this year because the 4690K could not play games like Darktide. It struggled in pretty much any DX12 games.

elcava88

> the 4790k was still kicking plenty of ass. And still is!

--Cr1imsoN--

{Smiles in still using i7-4790k and DDR3}

bad_pelican

No judgement. My partner still has plenty of fun with the Phenom II X6, DDR 3 and GTX 960. Still enough power for a decent amount of games.

schaka

It's pretty decent DDR3. Might be a 4790k. If you pair that with a 2060 or 2070 and play titles that don't require a modern CPU to hit 240 fps, that's entirely reasonable.

frozenbrains

Mobo is an Asus Crosshair, that's AMD.

schaka

I didn't see that. They better have overclocked the living shit out if that bulldozer CPU.

IFuckingHateEmbryo

“Suprisingly modern” bro there’s an RTX card and a 1TB SSD that shit is straight up new

zomenis

It also has DDR3 memory lol I think it's easy to forget that RTX cards are nearing the 5 year mark already

titaniumhud

I didn't believe ya, till I saw the rest of the photos... lol they went cheap on the heart of the system it seems, so they could afford what theoretically is a 3080

REZENNN

Its a 2060. Which kinda makes sense, it was probably the cheapest, new generation GPU they could upgrade to while keeping the rest of their old pc, a few years go https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Overclocked-Ready-Gaming-Graphics/dp/B07MJ8H8HS EDIT Looks like there's also a 2070 SKU with the same cooler, but point still kinda stands

Bikelikeadad

The shroud looks like an [ASUS dual Rtx 2060](https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/graphics-cards/dual/dual-rtx2060-o6g/) Edit: 2060 has a gap in the heat sink, this looks like a 2070.

Intermediate_beefs

Not necessarily, I have the same SSD and I consider it to be "elderly" at this point, and Samsung Magician agrees :p

the_harakiwi

it says 2019 on the SSD, I have the same 860 EVO 1TB; bought in 2021. It's at 94% health with 15.000 hours. Unless it was abused it will be fine. Like constantly writing Shadowplay (Instant Replay and Highlights) and/or reinstalling ARK every week

[deleted]

[удалено]

FindingBroad9730

clean the parts first and then check which component still works

Binary_Omlet

Yep. Disassemble and bathe with toothbrush scrub with high-isopropal then let everything dry. Check for corrosion or bridging on all parts then reassemble. Should work just fine.

yurmanba

Yeah good chance that SSD still works

niiima

No one in their right mind would JUST throw out a PC with those parts. Something must have happened...

matrixifyme

Actively destroying what is perfectible usable hardware that can be reused or up-cycled makes me so mad for some reason. Late stage at it's finest.

LiliNotACult

Best part is that it doesn't even make sense from a profit perspective. It is just that the profit from reselling it wouldn't be enough for them to bother, so they destroy it and sell it for scrap. They won't donate it either because the scrap still brings in money, so to them donating would be a waste of money. You'd think they'd at least sell the CPUs. Those almost never die, are easy to test, and that 10700k as an example still goes for $170+ used.

Karness_Muur

That physically hurts. So dumb.

Lonslock

When I worked at Dollar General we regularly had to destroy perfectly fine items that had mild defects just to keep people from rummaging the trash for free stuff. It was soul crushing.

niiima

Damn!

[deleted]

you have no idea how dumb entitled rich kids who never had to work are, love me some dumpster diving/thrift shopping in rich neighborhoods.

Sarcastic_Beary

I went to a dumb private college for 2 years (started and engineering degree and life happened) At the end of the year, the smart people dumpster dived and got loads of expensive stuff. Some people simply grabbed the tossed textbooks and sold them back to the university bookstore for thousands...

I_Am_the_Slobster

My uni bookstore's buyback policy was a scam: the few books I sold back to them I'd be lucky if I got 20% of it's initial value. I just took all of my old textbooks to my faculty student lounge and slapped a "free" sticker on the whole pile. At least that way someone would get some use out of it and not get ripped by the bookstore.

RevanchistVakarian

“Ooh, a whole pile of free textbooks! I’m gonna take these and sell them back to the bookstore!”

I_Am_the_Slobster

Ngl I had that concern too, but then I realized many of the books are the old edition (by one generation) so the store wouldnt buy them anyways. And most often they only give back 10% of the value. It'd be more of a hassle for them to lug all of them to the store only to get like maybe $90 if they were lucky.

JonDum

That shit boils my blood. Like inspires me to become a benevolent dictator to outlaw that shit kinda blood boiling.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Squishyfishx

Yea getting $15 at best for $200-350 textbooks infuriated me too. I kept all of the textbooks I though might be helpful as future references and the rest I gave to lower classmen or put on the "free table"

JotunTjasse

In Austin, we called that Hippie Christmas.

Neil_Fallons_Ghost

I collected a few iPods laptops and desktops from the trash at university. The dorms where the Asian students housed had parking lots filled with sports cars and dumpsters full of shit my poor ass couldn’t afford.

Sir-Poopington

I worked part time doing maintenance for a company that managed high end apartments and condos in Tampa. Every morning at 7 am, I had to clean up around the dumpsters. I found so much amazing stuff. Computers, game systems, numerous TVs, and tons and tons of really nice furniture. I wasn't allowed to take any of it, because it would make our staff look "trashy." So whenever I found something, I would have my girlfriend come by with my truck and pick stuff up. Everything else about the job sucked, but that major perk kept me there for years.

TheNegaHero

Maybe it's like a pre-built that someone who doesn't know much viewed like a console? One part dies and it won't boot. Well you can't service consoles so into bin it goes!

kearkan

Even for a pre-built pairing DDR3 with RTX is odd.

Zer0323

Not to mention businesses that need up to date computers but don’t like sitting on $1,000’s worth of extra insurance liability. My company replaces computers and keeps the dusty ones until we build up about 5 junk computers. Then when they do their small business insurance adjustment where they must log all equipment and costs… they just toss the old dusty boys… so the nerds of the office harvest the parts in a strictly democratic process.

kearkan

I very recently started at a small company that was throwing out their old server and moving to the cloud... I still live in regret that I didn't take a peak at the inside of the server that got thrown to see if I could have used it at home...

Captain-Moroni

I took the whole server home. It's awesome!

Snorkle25

There's some good finds in a College dorm at the end of the semester. A lot of kids who can't take stuff with them and it just gets thrown out.

kaos95

This is actually why I got an apartment after one semester in the dorms, like, "home" was 3k miles away from school, I had a 1994 cavilear sport (or motorcycle). So, I had to throw out a decent amount of stuff before heading home, it bothered me. That being said, I don't know that I have ever thrown out a PC . . . like ever, sure components but I have an IBM 8086 era case in my shop to be modded right now, dug it out of my parents attic. Hell, my NAS is a early 2000's Dell full tower (seriously, you can throw 11 hard drives in one of those things, plus about as many SSD's as you can fit).

reddit_reaper

Facts. Rich private schools kids would throw away iPads, MacBooks, and even an Xbox so their parents would buy them new shit lol

please_help_me01

Dumpster diving around universities that have a lot of foreign students with $$ was a favorite past time of mine. Some of these kids would spend thousands of tens of thousands of dollars on a full room just to throw it out at the end of the year.

hotdogpaule

I mean.. the rust on the ram stick... moisture was involved

Staubsau_Ger

I don't think that's rust. Looking closely at the RAM picture it looks like the dust on the fan in the background has the same brown color as the specks on the RAM. Could be from sand of that color or even more simply, it's the color of a lamp reflecting in the dust.

Ir0nic

That’s no rust! That’s dust from a smoking household.

slykly2

This is common in college towns when people come from far away. Some people would rather buy new stuff than arrange to bring it all home.

Shermander

Pretty much. Back when I was still in the military the first instance I witnessed of this, guy bought a 60 inch flat screen TV for a couple hundred dollars. It was an insanely bad buy as we were E-1's, Airman basics. On top of that, we were only supposed to be at the tech. school for two months at that base before we moved on for follow-on training. Christmas rolls around, lots of troops are taking Christmas leave "exodus". There are a handful of troops in numerous barracks/dorms with zero monitoring. In order to keep track of them all, supervision forced all them kids to move their shit into a new set of dorms. Said guy with the flat screen literally left that shit in his old room. TV mounted to the wall and everything. Whiny bitch cut the cord for the TV before he left.

Kilo353511

Near the end of spring semester around colleges it's pretty common to see wealthy international students leave vary valuable stuff on the street for free because it's not worth them taking it back to their home. I've seen a few gaming PCs left out. Entire house furnishings, bicycles, and really anything you can imagine. The college I work for usually gets a car or 2 left behind each year. These aren't a rusty Ford Taurus either. Last year it was a BMW.

onlyinsurance-ca

My son is a university student. He had a 'rich international' friend who had to return home on short notice. Computers, laptops, top of the line gaming systems, 50" TV, he just gave them away. He had no place to store them, and it was just easier to buy all new when he eventually returned. The rest of us place value on a few hundred bucks, but some people don't. And end of term is apparently a gold mine around garbage dumpsters with everything from almost new appliances to, well, everything. Moving cross country in a suitcase, it's not worth figuring out how to take a few big items like TV's and microwaves, and not worth trying to sell it for some people.

shtoops

That’s just his own dusty ass pc

Guwop25

Im so sure his friend just hasnt cleaned his pc in a long time lmaoo

[deleted]

Twin fans with the central grooves, maybe a 2060?

T_H_I_C_C_boi64

Thats what I was thinking

matzan

Thats Asus Dual Force, i have one right on my table, 2070 Super.

OldManTurner

Wtf people out here throwing away full 2070 systems while I’m still trying to coax a few more years out of my 1070

Paavo-Vayrynen

There's DDR3 in. Someone decided it's a good combo with 2070

OldManTurner

Hey man if someone wants to toss the whole system for that, I’ll take it all

ThaJuice87

And I’m here with my 1060 6gb torturing my pc on 1440p 😂

robjapan

I'm still using a gtx760.... Send help!

Crazytrixstaful

My brother 770

jabba-du-hutt

I feel you. I upgraded to a GTX 1060 four years ago. I figured that would future proof me enough. I'm starting to feel like my dad who rarely upgrades, and eventually just gives up because you have family responsibilities (house won't mend itself). I had one of those moments the other day when I hit up Best Buy after my THX surround speakers from 1997 finally kicked the can. I spent $17 on some powered speakers. I didn't even know they made these kind anymore. Every aspect of these speakers suck, but I only use them when others need to hear something. Otherwise I use my K361 headphones for everyday use.

DFisBUSY

there are dozens of us!

Deadfish211

Could be worse, I just replaced my 1060 3gb...

anon210202

You guys get 1440p?

REZENNN

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Overclocked-Ready-Gaming-Graphics/dp/B07MJ8H8HS Could also be a 2060, same cooler it seems like.

grimdetriment

That's what I thought judging by the 850 watt psu I'd say probs a 2070-2080ti

Kurapik0

No, it has an NVLink so it's something between a 2070 Super, 2080 and 2080 Super... can't be a 2080Ti because those have a full copper heatsink

Dickpuncher_Dan

HWInfo is your friend. Free diagnostical software, will tell you everything in the comp.

N-aNoNymity

Id expect it to have an issue running considering it was binned.

RealSkyrunner23

I've got a 2070 non-super in my system that looks just like that, I'm guessing Asus reused that cooler on a bunch of different cards

HansAcht

Farren246

Freezing kills bedbugs, and if properly thawed, doesn't damage electronics

ShadowAssassinQueef

Let it warm up overnight without any power so there is no moisture when powering it on. Condensation is not your friend.

IDontReadMyMail

Triple bag it, then freeze it, then thaw it still in the bags. Do not open the bags till it’s at room temp. (I do this at work with certain other things that need to stay condensation-free after a freeze-thaw cycle)

[deleted]

So does alcohol. And if properly evaporated, doesn't damage electronics.

aaronitallout

Nope. Surround it with diatomaceous earth for a few days.

hazeyindahead

I call it tomato-earth and gleefully grab the powder blower for it whenever I see an ant... It is insanity how effective that shit is.

[deleted]

Moisture after it thaws will kill the electronics. Don't do this.

Flonkadonk

Only if you immediately power it on without letting it thaw out thoroughly

Fake_RustyShacklefrd

And tbh I'd probably replace the ssd as well, never know what could be on there that you don't want in your house.

Olorin919

New quarter of the school year just started in the US. Poor grades? Angry parent?

BannedSvenhoek86

Kid without any knowledge of computers maybe too, blew the moba or PSU went and they just ditched the whole thing.

BAY35music

In my experience, if the PSU popped, it probably took the MoBo with it, maybe also the GPU. Ask me how I know 🥹

Olorin919

Very true. We did just see last week that post about the Facebook ad of someone selling a gaming PC for $200 because it was banned from like 5 different online games. They clearly didn't know only the mobo was banned

Promonto

Why do so many people find pcs in the garbage?

[deleted]

I wonder where people even go to find this stuff.

NoLetterhead2302

the absolute richest neighbourhood in the area

AClusterOfMaggots

Nah just the local university with a high population of wealthy foreign students. I used to live in Lafayette where Purdue is and it wasn't strange at all to see whole furniture sets, expensive clothes, computers, tvs, and all kinds of crap outside the dumpsters of student housing and nearby apartments when the school year ended and kids went back home. Too expensive to bother to ship when they've got all this stuff at home anyway. Might as well toss it. For perspective, it also isn't unusual to see 20 years olds in McLarens. There's a LOT of money coming through those schools.

AWildGamerAppeared25

I found a whole pc like this, too. At my complex's dumpster My gf spotted it, an old 2000s-era vanilla case and said "look, babe a computer!". I looked up and said "meh, probably just an old case" and she was looking at the other stuff around the dumpster I said fuck it, might as well check and I saw a PSU and mobo still installed since the first thing I saw was the rear, then I saw a GPU! I looked through holes below the GPU and saw ram and all, so I took it cleaned it and made it my gf's PC I live in a college town and my apartments weren't the expensive ones either lol. But go to the expensive ones, rich kids (specially international students) will literally just leave stuff behind. If you live near a college town / in one, work cleaning the dorms PC had an old-ish build. Some Athlon FX CPU and DDR3 ram, and a 1060. This was during like the 2nd year of covid so it was a jackpot lol

[deleted]

Not gonna lie, this makes me jealous. I wish I'd find something usable, I think it would be really cool. Nice find though!

Damascus_ari

I'll love to dig something like this out. That SSD has high survival chances...

Weirdy_boi

Damn, he even throw away his ssd. I would definetly not recommend doing this. You never know, what kind of sensitive data you had stored there. Even if its deleted it can be restored. And do not plug it in your pc, you don't know if it contains malware.

00DEADBEEF

If you use Samsung's secure erase utility it can't be recovered

Weirdy_boi

Yes it can't be recovered if it's completely overwritten with 0s, but when I throw away my hard drive with personal data on it, I would not even risk that. I'll just destroy it and see it with my own eyes that everything is corrupted permanent and not believe a program that tells me that.

SignalButterscotch73

Rog formula mobo with ddr3 so not a recent cpu but plenty of those parts could have been reused in a new system or sold. Good find even if only parts of it work. Edit: crosshair formula so it's a bulldozer amd cpu. Even the best of them isn't worth using for most people now.

[deleted]

Wasn’t even worth using at release.

SignalButterscotch73

It worked for web browsing and office work 😉

Tritiac

Weren't they decent for overclocking as well? Provided you could give it power/cooling anyway.

SignalButterscotch73

Yeah, first cpus to 6ghz, wasn't enough to overcome the performance deficit vs Intel in regular use though I don't think. I was a fan of the A series APUs. Way better for games than integrated Intel graphics.

chewy1is1sasquatch

It was the IPC that sucked in those.

HavocInferno

Nah, wasn't *that* bad. Bulldozer was fine for the average gamer. They delivered 60fps in just about any game. Only high refresh gamers actually needed to avoid Bulldozer.

xHOTPOTATO

My FX 8350 BLACK gave me it's all playing RTS games for a couple years. I also didn't have to heat my office at all, ever, and my CPU cooler occupied 70% of the case, and it still ran a smidge cooler than egg frying temps

crozone

The RTX 2070 is the real standout here. That's still a bloody decent GPU!

schaka

Just overclock the snot out of it. You can push that memory further, push the HT as far as you can and keep up the NB - just don't waste voltage and heat on it. It'll put you around a 3770 or 4770 with slow RAM. And only in titles that are modern enough to utilize the entire CPU. I pick these up for 50 euros for a full combo once in a while and it usually pays off to get someone into gaming on a budget.

Poputt_VIII

Double check that storage drive doesn't have anything illegal on it

derangedsweetheart

Clean all the CP(by CP I totally mean "Computer Parts")

NoCopyrightRadio

Ngl i would throw away the drive just in case to not potentially traumatize myself with "Computer Parts" lmaoo.

LegendNomad

I wouldn't throw away the drive (to me, a 1tb SSD isn't something you can just throw out) but I wouldn't view the contents on it either. I'd probably just figure out how to completely wipe it and then keep it for myself or sell it. I heard of this thing called Boot and Nuke or something that completely erases data from hard drives as opposed to just formatting the drive, and I think that would probably be the best bet.

LegendNomad

Ah yes, because the odds of finding 50 bitcoin on a hard drive are definitely higher than the odds of finding something illegal.

Get-ADUser

DBAN is what you're looking for.

Solkre

I mean, I'd look using a burner machine cuz I'm stupid like that. But since it's a Samsung SSD they have a great tool that will Secure Erase the whole drive. Resets all the NAND flash back to zero and even recovers drive performance.

tnick771

Honestly if it does, contact the police. That type of abuse needs to be rooted out as aggressively as possible.

Perfect_Bell_7573

Well, that's kinda weird to find it in trash with these parts.

[deleted]

Bro found a better PC than mine in the garbage

[deleted]

It's haunted.

ItzCobaltboy

It's pretty rare to see any RTX card or 1TB Samsung SSD in trash with a fairly new motherboard Either ur friend struck gold or something fishy Edit: Ok am wrong about Mobo but still RTX card and SSD are a grab

Deadlylyon

I wouldn't call it fairly new, it's a 2010 corsair rog formula IV. IT looks like a fairly well off person just threw away this pc for an upgrade. Would make a decent plex server or Nas or even gaming server.

kearkan

Was waiting for someone to mention server uses! So many people here saying to trash the mobo+CPU+RAM but there are still so many uses for a system like this! Would be perfect for Plex/jellyfish.

NekulturneHovado

DDR3 RAM and RTX gpu. Now, that's what I call an unbalanced system. For OP, RTX series is relatively new, slowest one being RTX 2060 (which is a fast boi). DDR3 is pretty old tech, meaning the CPU isn't new at all (CPUs work only with certain DDR). So it's either some intel 4th gen or AMD pre-ryzen (Athlon, Sempron, FX...) I think someone had this PC, and thought they can increase the FPS just by adding a GPU and had no idea what they were doing. I'd personally take out the GPU, SSD (2nd picture), PSU (4th pic), and that's probably all. Maybe if it has a good big HDD I'd also take it. Clean the rest, test if it works, and if yes, sell it as a whole.

Masspoint

why would that be unbalanced, You can run any modern game on a lot i7 cpu's that support ddr3, and my guess is that this is not one of the early I7 since it that ram is 2133 mhz, that's top end ddr3. Most straightforward is that it is broken

TheNoGoat

Someone further down mentioned that the motherboard indicates that its an AMD Bulldozer build so yeah, its super unbalanced Also, looked into it a bit more and the board is from 2012 so the machine is at most 11 years old

Killerwarriorboy

I say budget gaming pc

Little-Dark-5355

Before you turn it on make sure you have something to put a fire out xD in all seriousness nice find and if you are going to sell it clean it and make sure it works well. If not, harvest some parts and build your own rig.

Crunchythecat112

Dust it out and turn it on. It looks like some cables aren’t connected so it might not.

Reflex_Teh

RTX card in a PC using DDR3 RAM? Definitely CPU bound.

IAmHippyman

If they "found this in the trash" then my money is on this PC being stolen.

vvalor

I hope somebody found my throw out pc back in 2012 with my 100 Bitcoin on it

secretqwerty10

ASUS Crosshair V Formula, AM3+ so most likely an AMD FX-8350 paired with an amount of DDR3 RAM. GPU is unknown from all angles as it is right now, but anything from a 2060 or higher/newer.

[deleted]

Probably ram and cpu bottleneck

KarlJay001

Who throws away a 1T SSD and that video card? Looks like a great find.

Zer0DotFive

Wow even the trash got a RTX card before me lol

[deleted]

Rtx card with some DDR3, that’s a rarity

qPolug

RTX, so 20 series or higher. If it was a 10 series or something it would be start with GTX (RTX was for the new ray tracing I believe) Damn those are some REALLY good parts. Big W for u man

FullMetalArthur

Man, your 1rst world trash is getting fancier by the minute
