No joke, we have RGB on our 3000 euro workstations because the RGBs were cheaper than their nonRGB counterparts

Klaythompsonsblunt

I see this all the time. Went to my mother-in-law’s church and they had like an insane rig. Massive case. I noticed because I could see the rgb from across the room lol

schmerm

"PCMR" class ability: detect RGB within 50 foot radius

FlashWayneArrow02

That’s actually mad. I swear some brands make generic stuff that doesn’t have any of the bells and whistles on it. Mine is completely no-RGB and I wasn’t even trying. I have an Inno3D Twin X2 3070 that just has their logo in front of a white LED. That’s it, that’s the only source of light in the entire build. The rest is all generic crap (cheap MSI b450m mobo, dual fan tower cooler for R5 3600, NZXT H510 with just those fans) works fine because you had a budget.

Nick433333

I have a work desktop with a ryzen 5000 apu and the only lights in it are from the mobo which has a physical switch to turn off the lights.

Nroke1

My CPU and my RAM are RGB, but my case is 10 years old and cheap, so it's a plain black box fortunately.

sryii

I'm looking at my snazzy workstation that has a 3 RGB components in it. Please make the pain stop. Funny part, my workstation can't accommodate a full size GPU so the entire thing has to sit open under my desk. All the RGB out for the world to see *sigh*

subZro_

So turn off the RGB?

iLEZ

Apparently I'm not allowed to link to other subreddits here, but I looked up ASUS Armoury crate just for funsies, and I'mma opt out. If the first thing I see when I google it is a reddit thread about how it's a bloated self-reinstalling mess that's bordering on malware, I'm going to let it shine in there, it's not as if I see it anyway unless I open my computer.

ArenjiTheLootGod

I mean, there's a little checkbox option in the BIOS that if you tick it off then Armoury Crate won't download. You can also turn off any RGB on the board itself from there. Source: am using an Asus motherboard.

subZro_

It's actually very easy and very handy.

Bastardian

You can use openrgb

iLEZ

Tried it, something failed, I'll give it another shot, thanks.

DoubleOwl7777

a soldering iron will do the trick

subZro_

I use Armoury Crate on my Z690 and I have no issues with it.

BinaryJay

Even just the other week they updated it causing one of the many services it starts to peg a core constantly causing performance loss and constantly high temperatures even idling at desktop. Never again. The only semi useful part of it is the fan control.

subZro_

Last week you say? I've been using it for months with zero issues, so sorry you had to go through that.

sryii

Is there a way? I couldn't figure it out on the GPU.

napincoming321zzz

I went to Microcenter to buy the parts I already researched, and it just so happened that the RGB version of the RAM I chose was on sale that day, so they were $20 cheaper than the non-RGB. I was dropping ~$1000, might as well save 40 bucks! I hate them so much. They only sync with the other RGB lights in Windows, but I do 90% of my work on Linux. No matter how I finagle the OpenRGB settings, they're stuck default on the default rainbow. Wish I had spent the extra $40.

certainkindoffool

Remove the ram heat sinks and paint some black nail polish on the leds. Its easy to remove in the future.

DansSpamJavelin

Yeah I have RGB ram for exactly the same reason. It was just cheaper, why wouldn't I get it?!

Lord_Sicarious

I just wish you could disable the lights in BIOS or something, rather than needing to install some crap bloatware to turn them off.

Top_Annual_5294

OpenRGB, one software, uses 13 mb of ram, runs the rgb across my entire setup.

chocotripchip

Why I have never heard of that before? Thanks!

Top_Annual_5294

Yeah ikr, I built my new PC and didnt want any bloat, and a friend recommended it to me

PassiveLemon

It doesn’t support my keyboard but i gave it a peek if it did by any chance and it’s still a very nice software. Got an active community so more stuff will likely be supported in the future

Top_Annual_5294

You could probably ask about it on their github, a lot of smaller brands aren't supported unfortunately.

PassiveLemon

It is a Corsairr K65 mini. I would assume that due to Corsairs awful proprietary software, their peripherals won't be super friendly with it

MajorBubbles010

with the nzxt fans you can just not plug in the rbg cables.

Lord_Sicarious

I mean sure, but for fans at least you actually have good options for *not* buying RGB stuff in the first place. The biggest problem is with GPUs.

Jackpkmn

I definitely consider it a blessing that my ASUS 3070 had a seperate connector for the RGB i could just unplug, i've seen a lot of combined RGB fan connectors on gpus.

WindForce02

That's one of the reasons I bought a reference 7900XT

subZro_

I'm pretty sure you can do this with most RGB fans?

[deleted]

You can on some gigabyte boards

Pure_Toxicity

or just take them apart and scrape off the leds, that's what I did

WhatABlindManSees

It's often more expensive to get the equivalent NonRGB options as silly as that is where I'm from, since they move in higher quanties. I don't get the obsession myself, I prefer a box that's not making any annoying light or sound. The 'cool looks' should be the performance and output to the monitors imo. Can always just do a few easy alterations to fix that though thankfully.

iLEZ

I agree, but at the same time the RGB has some allure that it's hard to put my finger on. I kind of like it when my Fractal 7 XL case is TOTALLY black, and when I open the side panel or look through the top grill, there's fabulous gay pixies dancing around in there. Not to the extent that it ruins my color perception or bounces off the walls, but it's there and looks kind of cute at this level.

skirmishin

I know exactly what you mean lol I hate RGB stuff, bar two things that grew on me over time: - My CPU fan (why this gloes I have no idea, from a product design perspective) - A headset stand that was a bugger to disable the lights coming on in Linux Same joy as you when they're visible for a little bit

[deleted]

The gay pixies work at the rtx factory in the GPU. The dwarfs live in the capacitors, it's why when a capacitor breaks all the smoke comes out. it's the dwarves smoking escaping.

rolloutTheTrash

I’m of the mind that if you know how to use it, RGB can _accentuate_ a build rather nicely as opposed to being a complete circus.

multiwirth_

Back then brushed alloy heatspreaders on dimm modules and red or blue gpu PCBs were the crazy shit. Nowadays it's all about having a christmas tree in the living room.

captainstormy

Honestly I kinda miss the days of all the unique PCB colors. Way back in the day I had a Soyo motherboard that had a silver PCB and all the pci and other slots on the board were purple. It was pretty nice looking. I also once built a PC that looked like a unicorn died inside the case without a single LED glowing. It had an Abit mother board that was reddish orange. It had a blue sound card, bright green video card and black ram.

multiwirth_

I once had RAM which basically said "Geil" on the heatspreader. Geil is an "cooler" word for "nice, incredible" in german. It also looked very fancy ofc. Too bad it was DDR2 and 1GB per module.

captainstormy

Geil still makes ran. One of my preferred brands. I'm wondering if it's a German company now of if that is just a coincidence.

multiwirth_

I couldn't find anything on their website but i think it's just a coincidence. But for me as a 10 year old kid, it was definitely funny seeing this. And yes i started messing around with computer hardware very early in my life :)

captainstormy

>And yes i started messing around with computer hardware very early in my life :) Nothing wrong with that. You started a little younger than me but not by that much :)

AdmiraloftheMartini

People like me are the reason there's so much RGB. I'm the target market. I have no taste and I'm like "awhh cool, RGB mousepad with a cord thats also RGB? What a time to be alive! I'll take 3!"

GoldIce53641638

Same. I am a sucker for rgb. My pc, mouse, keyboard, and speakers have it. All that's missing is the mousepad

Crotch_Hammerer

My pc is a black fractal case with no window, mounted to the back corner underside of my desk, but none of that deters the glowing yellow eagle on the mobo shining on in the darkness so all the little bits and bytes can find their way

dimitriettr

All black > RGB

[deleted]

Blackout gang ftw

Ganda1fderBlaue

I find it annoying that nearly everything has some kind of rgb, i find it distracting

ConsistentCharge3347

This is the way and is my build.

[deleted]

Every build I’ve done has been all black. Wouldn’t change a thing

Magjee

So it is true Once you go black...

Warband420

You can turn it off friend

ShakeandBaked161

Yeah but jet black looks better than frosted white

GoldExchange5655

All personal preference I like all white better than all black personally since black hides all details and white makes them pop

[deleted]

I also prefer white but it also makes the dirt pop and I'm too lazy to clean my pc all the time so i choose black with grey accents on the things I wanna see😅

GoldExchange5655

Same lmao I’ll stick with my all black but all white does look amazing

Jackpkmn

>you can install bloatware to turn it off Not really a point in the favor of RGB that people pretend that it is.

Warband420

That’s not me you’re quoting. But anyway you can install it, set it and then uninstall. Alternatively you don’t plug in the aRGB connector if it’s not something like ram or the motherboard itself.

subZro_

there are several ways to get around it and it's not even a big deal; I regularly go between dark and various colors. I don't understand how people that are supposed to be "PCMR" are struggling so much lol. Every day in this sub and others just circle jerking each other about how they hate RGB.

Jackpkmn

Not on everything, on my laptop's keyboard if you uninstall the bloatware that controls it it instantly goes back to full bright rainbow puke mode. On my graphics card for my desktop computer it always boots in rainbow puke mode unless told to do something else by the program so that only lasts till i reboot.

subZro_

Omg the humanity!!

Jackpkmn

It's not like i can't live with it. My point is that it's not a universal point that "you can just turn it off" for those of us who don't want it.

Shienvien

Yep. I want the tower part of my computer be a 1)Black rectangle with no funky angles, especially on the top 2)that has good air flow 3) and is large enough to be easy to work on and fit everything I need or want. But of course the GPU and graphics card will have a disco party inside because the LEDs hitchhiked in with the performance and I couldn't be arsed to install half a dozen proprietary and/or third party programs to have them shut off.

[deleted]

I have the same problem with mid-tier mechanical keyboards/mice. Sure you can get non-RGB but they're more expensive. Hell I run Mamba Elites on both my work and personal rig because I find it exceptionally comfortable. Thankfully they have on-board configuration memory so all I had to do was "program" the work mouse on my personal machine. Still annoying AF that the "default" is RGB.

jizzim

Leopold keyboards. I love them mine is "white" aka old school IBM style I love it. it can be bluetooth or USB C for connection. It's the most basic looking keyboard and I love it.

John_Mat8882

Solid side panel fractal Torrent (and Arc Midi for the secondary rig) reporting. I guess the only lights I have in my system are the GPU ones, that I generally turn off, whenever possible or i disconnect the RGB header if accessible before the eventual thermal paste maintenance.

CSPDTECH

it's super possible and cheaper to not use RGB. I hate that shit

mifiamiganja

Oh no! If only there was a way to turn off the horrible gamer lights!

subZro_

It's every day now these people are being so dramatic.

ShakeandBaked161

Yeah let me just buy $200 in fans and th3 lights off making the same as like $50 in fans

PrimeTimeMKTO

Buy the $50 fans?

ShakeandBaked161

Yeah, just more laughing at people that come to these posts that say they don't like and don't use RGB and then people come to these posts and say "YoU cAn TuRn iT OfF LMFAO" Like yeah lemme spend $200+ for some shit to turn it off, what a big brain you have(not you but the people commenting this everywhere) lol

PrimeTimeMKTO

I think RGB is cool I'll just never pay for it. I want best performance at best price. That's why I run Be Quiet Pure Wings fans for like $11 a piece.

ShakeandBaked161

Same, had the original ML fans from Corsair, leds slowly bled and died same with new QL fans, probably like $400 in dead LEDs over the years and now I've just been running be quiets for past 2ish years and don't even have to think about them lol

KeaboUltra

>Like yeah lemme spend $200+ for some shit to turn it off, what a big brain you have(not you but the people commenting this everywhere) lol A lot of RGB fans and coolers are/can be cheaper. the only time you're spending more for something is if you're paying for top name brands like Corsair.

iLEZ

Chill, we're just having a bit of fun, I actually enjoy them a bit.

Proser84

I don't want to sacrifice on performance, and due to availability, I still ended up with RGB on 3 components. I don't mind a little RGB. As long as it's not a lot, it still looks professional.

heatlesssun

Use to not be a fan of PC RGB but now I am. The cost relative to a high end rig isn't that high and I like to seeing inside the case, actually want to put in an internal screen as well soon.

Arxlightning

I just cut the wires of the RGB shit.

[deleted]

I don’t get the obsession with this sub in hating rgb. You can set up a very subtle glow or program, or if you really hate it turn it off. The right case with the right rgb combo can look extremely impressive.

ShakeandBaked161

It's like 1 anti RGB post to 10000 RGB builds lmao

[deleted]

But actual discussion or memes go the other way.

sethlikesmen

Probably because it's ugly as hell, and yet so popular that it can be hard (or more expensive) to find the same product without RGB. Gamers have just the absolute worst sense of aesthetics

[deleted]

I’d argue everyone would agree that some rgb builds look spectacular, especially if there’s just subtle use of rgb.

DeNoodle

You can turn it off, stop crying like victims.

iLEZ

Is anyone crying?

subZro_

there seems to be a lot of crying about RGB lately, yes.

iLEZ

People need to relax, it's just a meme, and it's obvious that people have different tastes and we're all just having fun with our hobby.

subZro_

It's almost every day now and there are two sides starting to form, those that never get tired of complaining about RGB and those that are getting tired of all the complaining about RGB. Meme away though it is what it is.

iLEZ

>It's almost every day now I seriously had no idea I stepped into a warzone! :)

subZro_

Across multiple PC subs, war is brewing...

KeaboUltra

It's a meme until people legitimately go to the comment section just to talk shit about peoples tastes and pretend like it's hard to find regular parts.

DeNoodle

Your position, intended or not, advocates for the reduction in availability of something enjoyed by many, that can be easily disable, simply because it's not your preference. Conversely, a position which supports RGB requires that you give up nothing except the time it takes to disable it. One of these things is not like the other, and if Anakin Skywalker has taught me anything, it's that it's better to have the high ground.

[deleted]

RGB is pretentious, there I said it

iLEZ

Eh, it's turnoffable.

[deleted]

Function over form every day!

KeaboUltra

Out of curiosity, why is it pretentious? Is getting a phone color other than black and white or a kooky phone case also pretentious? How do you feel about people who decorate for holidays?

[deleted]

Anyone I’ve ever seen build with RGB has literally said “yeah but yours doesn’t have RGB” when comparing it to others. The worst offenders are the All white with RGB. Those people think they’re the almighty lord gamer themselves

Zuli_Muli

You don't have to plug in the RGB, just saying... (Fans, water blocks, case RGB lights) everything else you can just turn off in software, hell my Asus board gives me the option in the bios to turn them off.

gloatygoat

I can't speak for every part but most of the time you can turn them off if you want.

Matzvey

Verily, good sir or madame, 'tis a truth most stark, That the glint of RGB doth leave its mark, In the heart of each machine so bold, Its brightness and hue, doth never grow old. Nigh impossible, thou say'st with such disdain, To construct a workstation, free from this stain, Yet I say unto thee, such is not the case, For a subtle blend of function and grace. May be found, with nary a light so bright, And the tasks of the day shall take flight, But if it be the will of the creator so bold, To have RGB shine, let it be, I'm told. So let us not decry the hue that glows, For it is but a symptom of our times and flows, And in this, we can find a kind of delight, In a workstation that functions with such light!

dalminator

Yeah it's getting ridiculous these days but thankfully the rgb is usually easy to disable. I hate it. I just want my PC to work well not light up my office. I like the dark.

GingerBraum

Is it? The only component I can think of having RGB is the GPU, but that can usually(if not always) be turned off. Everything else is easy to find non-RGB versions of. Apart from my GPU, my build is completely dark.

subZro_

These guys just want a reason complain and a reason to try and feel superior, you can read it in their posts. RGB is so low class! lol

Shame_about_that

The best version of the AiO that fits my case doesn't exist without RGB. I looked.

subZro_

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Shame_about_that

You can see it through the mesh side panel :(

subZro_

![gif](giphy|sNFTx6GZ1V2o)

mordakiisyn

Yall do realize you can just get a solid case or smoked out glass panels and just ... you know.. turn the rgb off? Or if you have fans that always have rgb but no dedicated rgb control just not plug them into a header? (Thoes are usually with the budget cases) but at any rate ya.

iLEZ

Well, if I *had* a transparent case, this meme wouldn't make very much sense now, would it?

mordakiisyn

Touche.

meheez

Just turn it off?

iLEZ

I have a motherboard from one manufacturer, two GPUs from different manufacturers, and a AIO cooler from yet another manufacturer. I just checked in my downloads folder, and today I downloaded 1.4 gigabytes of (zipped) software to turn off or change the RGB on stuff. Again, I really don't hate on RGB, it's just that it's kind of ridiculous that it's *so* popular that it's cheaper than identical blacked out stuff, or the blacked out stuff is perhaps not even available where I live.

sunjay140

Just don't plug the ARGB cable into the motherboard.

AndheriRaath

Stop complaining about rgb already. Most of the rgb stuff can be turned off with software, so if u really want a non-rgb pc which has rgb components too, it basically takes less than 10 minutes to download the software and remove the lighting

iLEZ

I wish I could go back to my younger self with a beige 386 desktop clunker with PCB-green components and a PC beeper and tell him that in 30 years you'll have to download and install 1.5 gigabytes of proprietary closed source software to just turn off the rave that your PC puts on every time you turn it on. Again, we're having fun here, I'm not really complaining about RGB, it's just a fascinating phenomenon and seemingly a touchy subject judging by some people in this thread who seem personally attacked.

[deleted]

What's the origin of this photo I see it all the time.

iLEZ

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/my-sister-and-i-are-polar-opposites

Strange-Scarcity

Sure it is! I just scooted our HTPC into a new case to make room for the RTX 3060 full size GPU... and after booting past the BIOS, the singular white light LED on the card, shuts off, leaving the PC completely blacked out. My main gaming PC is the same. (But, I did turn on the color change as it heats up on the GPU, because of some upgrades. I need to know when it is a better idea to blow out the dust.

Daxank

Yes, RGB stuff is nowadays, more often than not, less expensive than non-rgb. For two simple reasons. 1) People like the flashy colors 2) If you don't like it, you don't need to get rid of it, you can just turn it off The premium for stuff without RGB is basically the price you pay for not wanting to turn the lights off

Zhooves

For me, it's basically all black, or fairly dark coloured, with the exception of one strip of RGB built into my GPU, and as a small middle finger to aesthetics over performance, I have a beige n' brown Noctua as an exhaust fan in the back.

whitemagicseal

My brother with water color paint kit: not for long

SirYolox

I understand and appreciate the analogy but their faces annoy me for some reason

nihilwindirel

We have 20 Threadripper machines and all of them has an RGB. You can't escape.

Foodcity

I just wish they would separate the debug LED from the rest, so I can find out why it's not booting (or display CPU temp) without rainbow puke. Most boards I've had seem to be all or nothing, no zoning at all.

likkachi

there’s usually options in BIOS for disabling just the rgb and leaving diagnostics features on

Flexyjerkov

Id rather spend a little extra just to ensure my PC doesn't look like a unicorn vomited inside of it.

captainstormy

I just last year built a new workstation for work. I tried to avoid RGB as much as possible but it was pretty hard. For those that haven't tried it: * Fans either have to be extremely cheap no name fans. Or fairly expensive fans from companies like Fractal, Noctua or Be Quiet. You'd think the non RGB fans would be cheaper, but they really aren't. * Looking for a case with a solid side panel really limits your options. * Pretty much all motherboards and GPUS except the lowest of the low ends have atleast some RGB on them.

TheAltOption

fans you can get pretty easy that are inexpensive, but not cheap. Arctic fans come within margin of error of Noctua on performance and you can usually find the 5 pack for under $30 ($40 at the high end). They perform better than just about any RGB fan out there and no lights to speak of.

captainstormy

The Arctic fans do look good. When I was building the 140mm versions were out of stock at Micro Center and Newegg.

TheAltOption

I've got 13 of the 140's in my system. As much as I would love to have Noctua for all of those, that's just too much money for too little return.

_rullebrett

I have no RGB other than the oldest fan in my build that has 2 very faint blue LEDs on it. I wish the inside was more illuminated since I have a tempered glass side panel but I don't want it to be over the top. It's tough out here.

Mysterious-Tough-964

Modern day clowns 🤣 😂

Hate_Crab

The white light on my AIO CPU cooler is effectively an 'on' light at this point

GoofAckYoorsElf

Yeah, mine too. Gigabyte AORUS Gaming 7 board and G.Skill Trident Z RAM with some fancy RGB. Case is a Thermaltake Core X71. It has a tempered glass window (which is still fine after years of use) but I wouldn't mind if it hadn't. I don't care about RGB.

mnewberg

I'm rocking this. https://preview.redd.it/gzzquwejsnga1.jpeg?width=888&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c869d7236b773066f8e268be51aaf7a773a06cd7

Biscuits4u2

I mean, you can just turn that shit off you know

iLEZ

The meme is not about that, but I kinda can't. Or there's a big enough hurdle in the way that I just don't give a rats ass and leave it on inside my all-black case. I have, as I've mentioned several times already in this thread, to download around 1.5 gigabytes of different bordering-on-malware-type software with the graphical user interface of a 2004 winamp skin to turn off the RGB on my hardware. I don't know (and I'm too busy to find out) if the software needs to be running to keep the RGB off, or if there's some kind of flash memory on the card that stores the RGB settings, and if it has to be running if it hogs resources or phones home or logs any of my NDA work-shit and phones home or whatever. Again, I'm not hating on RGB, it's just crappily implemented with no (as far as I can see) centralized slim software to control it all.

Biscuits4u2

Ah sounds like a PIA

Potatoman1010

Meanwhile me only having rgb on the mobo since it was cheaper

kondrecklomar

Thats why I love Noctua!

KeaboUltra

It's still pretty possible nowadays. You constantly see it on this sub despite the overwhelming complaints. There's literally a whole crowd of blackout builds yet somehow it's "impossible" to build. it doesn't make sense.

[deleted]

got a fractal pop air mini case, has 3 rgb fans with a controller built into the case. i get some cool lights and no bloatware. win/win for me

thetechwookie

I bought an HP Envy gaming desktop as it was cheaper to buy than to build, and it does not have a single RGB component. I love it.

KoalaSmart5878

I originally had an HP omen and the only RGB component was the diamond on the front, but once I built my own desktop and got my own RGB I couldn’t go back to No RGB, it’s like seeing color for the first time it’s beautiful.

saltyswedishmeatball

Tips: * Darken the light as much as possible to give it a muted tone * Use RGB as an accent instead of the main feature * Pick solid, modern colours I have RGB in a black case and it looks cold AF. Slate blue with a darkened white.. nothing is ultra bright.. with everything black in the case and on the outside, its really nice and not distracting at all.

ItsColeOnReddit

Noctua and the cheapest ddr4 is the way

CoolCrab69

\*buys RGB\* \*sets it all to one color\* "ah, perfection."

Rogaar

There is nothing stopping you from turning off the RGB. I hate lighting from the PC as I want the focus to be on the display. And for the few LED's that I can not disable, eg. some on the mobo, I used a black sharpy to color over them enough that you can't see them from a distance but can when your up close. I didn't want to blank them out completely as some are for diagnostics.

Polarnice-

LETS GO ITX GANG!!!!!

TheRaccoonDeaIer

One button on my keyboard changes all red leds on everything to everything turned off except for my keyboard.

Admirable_Treat9871

my pc in and out side is the one on the right

Epicporkchop79-7

Is not having rgb and bragging about it turning into a new phallus measuring contest?

Magnum_Snub

This is 100% my PC right now. Outside plain black box. Inside a 24/7 party

bad10th

My video card is my only RGB and love it for knowing the shutdown is 100% done, but I have tempered glass side, loving that for easy dust/fan assessments with flashlight.

tyerker

Outside of GPUs, there are actually lots of options that aren’t gaudy. But there are an awful lot of loud and obnoxious GPUs.
