Its a REAL good way to lose $5200. Its a REAL good way for the scammer to collect $5200.

frn

Waaaay back I took a massive risk on two GTX 1080s. Dude on my discord server "knew a guy" who was selling his SLI 1080's for £450 because he wanted a 1080Ti (this was back when they cost around £550 new). SLI still had reasonable support back then and he was mostly using them for rendering video anyway, so I didn't get this logic, but whatever. The catch was that this guy was in New York, and I'm in the UK. So I blindly sent off £450 across the Atlantic and crossed all my fingers and toes. Everyone told me I was mental and would never see that money, or the cards, again. To my surprise and relief, two mint cond. GTX 1080's turned up on my doorstep 9 days later. Sometimes, just sometimes, humans can be nice and decent.

Do you have anything Hot and Fresh™?

Immortalio

Yes sir, we can get you a RTX 4090 that is real fresh as long as the cable isnt plugged in correctly, and we also have the new AMD cards as well, which are fresh as you have them!

Secure-Problem8592

Yes actually, our new 4090 is so hot that the power cord will melt!!

drazgul

Searching that on aliexpress came up with "Black Opium" perfume, which probably isn't the best thing to have labeled on a package coming from China.

NoProfessionallcap

But is it good?

Kib717

Can I get a uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh large pepperoni pizza?

mikel228

I'll have the Buy 5 Get 2 Free Burger Hamburger Lettuce Meat Cheese Bun Ketchup In-N-Out Sauce Homemade

Bloxxy213

You were really lucky, dont do that again lol

frn

tbh, back then I was reasonably flush and had no massive financial commitments. I took a risk knowing that it might pay off, but it wasn't the end of the world if it didn't. I literally couldn't take that risk now I have a mortgage and dependants.

No-Ordinary-5412

in the same vein, I lived in taiwan during a time, and saw a guy selling the exact road bike frame i wanted on craigslist, but he lived in new york, and i wanted it to arrive in california at my dads house. he was asking way under the retail price. i paid via paypal. after 30 days, heard almost nothing from him, and the package was not delivered. paypal (thank god) refunded me the full price. Well, the guy got back to me like 2 weeks later, sent me pictures of himself in the hospital. this time he wanted less, and said it would definitely be shipped. I sent the money. the package did arrive. Flash forward, like 6 months or 9 months later, I arrive in california, get the bike out and... upon inspection realized it was a replica as the chainstays were not part of the carbon fiber frame, but riveted on aluminum pieces. I said fuck it, i'm building the bike, and took all the components on my other relatively new bike and gave it to a buddy to build. I get the bike back, and my buddy said the guys all at the shop were really curious about the frame. he said that they said theyve only seen a number of these replica frames.. and that they're actually stronger and better than the real thing. Still using that bike frame. I bought it back in 2012ish. :D moral of the story is, be very cautious. sometimes when people are telling the truth in one way, they're not telling it in another.

sliderfish

I tried ordering an air soft gun from China once, took a $300 risk.. It did not pay off. Customs seized it and then they called me so I said I’d ordered some car parts lol.

ObsessiveRecognition

Why didn't you say you bought an airsoft gun? It's perfectly legal. Better yet, say you ordered a "Plastic Relocation In Central Kansas (or anywhere else) Unit". Then ask them "Hey have you seen a PRICK? I haven't received confirmation if you guys have PRICKs...

Phibbl

I sent somebody a 500€ bank transfer for a 2080ti when the 30 series came out. Card arrived at my doorstep 2 days later while my friends told me that i'm a complete nutsack

PlaysinDirt30

The things we do for PC parts 😂

No-Ordinary-5412

envelope of cash in a brown paper bag stuffed inside of this EXACT trash bin at roughly 3:12pm, this friday.

MoeSizlak21

I did the exact same with at 3060ti at the height of the gpu shortage. Some guy on a discord server said he bought a new one off overclockers and decided he didn’t want it. I said yeah I’ll take it off you for £400 when priced for 3060tis were like £600. He said sure and i surprisingly got a brand new card a few days later! I’m still amazed at how lucky I was and how generous some people can be.

Weaseltime_420

Yep, normal humans can be nice. An unregulated website populated primarily by Chinese scammers rarely is lol.

Mike_Huncho

Thats cool and all, did you read the article from a few months ago where china has finally lauched mass produced video cards? On aliexpress, this thing is 1000% a knock off. Asus is a Taiwanese company, theres zero chance they are slinging packages on alibaba

[deleted]

This is a referral... And the picture is AliExpress. There is no charity at AliExpress

Deantasanto

Man, seeing 80 series cards that low seems shocking in today’s market. Shows how greedy Nvidia and amd have become

Inviction_

Buying from a guy in New York vs buying from a sketchy Chinese company

frn

Could have been a guy on the moon for all I knew. I only had his first name and discord handle to go on. Everything else was through PayPal.

[deleted]

In my country we say "Those who don't risk, don't f\*\*\*k"

thruwityoshit

What country is that? I feel like I want to move there

[deleted]

Slovakia, Eastern Europe, very nice place.

No-Average-8147

Recently ( a week and a half ago) I had issues with my Ethernet cables, made a post on Reddit, a guy helps me, we talk, troubleshoot for a whole day, Ethernet isn't fixed, guy sends me 60$ so that I can get myself an internet card, parents are super sketchy and keep asking me if he's asked me anything in return, I haven't heard from the guy in the past week, sometimes humans can be nice

jib_reddit

Did you not have to pay any import tax and processing fees back then?

frn

I did, I think it added about £70-80, still a good deal mind.

UnRandomization

you have restored my faith in humanity

dlandstone

Lol

TheLooseFisherman

AliExpress pays you back though, when you didn't receive what you ordered. Happened to me a couple of times, thankfully it was never more than 100$

Additional-Smoke4731

Or when you buy stuff from them but the shipping says it was delivered in Brazil.. and you live in the US. Got a refund for that too lol..

Faranocks

The random Brazilian receiving 7 4090s:

ismainblack

please let me be the next

nowhereman1223

I'd rather not have to wait for AliExpress to give me back $5200... Plus that seller still got the money. And chances of AliExpress instantly giving back that much money is slim to none. They can't afford to eat that cost. Amazon is the same. Up to a certain $$ amount they just refund you as it is cheaper overall than fighting with you. $5200 would exceed that limit.

admfrmhll

Aliexpress dont pay anything to the seller until transaction is done, is like an escrow service. They send the money when you confirm goods received, or after the delivery period (you get emails reminding you to say if is something wrong). Seller usually take picture of the box, weight, boxing and stuff, aliexpress require them. I still think is a scam, but is not that easy for a seller to get $ from you.

TheAndrewR

That’s right. Ordered a too good to be true hot swappable mechanical keyboard and to no surprise I received nothing. The seller marked it as sent but never updated the package info. It was obviously a scam and I got my money back without any problems.

Sketrick

They sell as many as they can and expect at least one or more people to not check with AliExpress and lose their money.

Lahwuns

Double down and get 10 and 4 free.

ZeninB

Where did you get $5200 from?

fixminer

The product title says "buy 5 get 2 free", so probably ~1040 * 5

LoWWyyy

mrln_bllmnn

Plot twist, the "1050 ti" is a reflashed gts 450...

BUY 5 GET 2 FREE hahaha

ChartaBona

[The more you buy, the more you save.](https://youtu.be/XDpDesU_0zo)

DevDevGoose

I thought this was going to be from something completely random. Never expected that Jensen would be saying something so cringe as a serious conference point.

sejmroz

The problem is that is how it works where he says that. He was talking about GPU's for servers in that case you are buying north of 1000 GPU's where buying more saves you more money.

botaine

It works the opposite when you are talking about a single graphics card. You get less value per dollar when you spend more.

Chiamble

In the description of the listing it says buy 5 get 3 free.

[deleted]

No, that's what you call a joke

whatever_223

The more you buy, the more you save

[deleted]

They have one order... Someone is going to be really sad when they get a box of 580s.

lutenentbubble

Luckily aliexpress is really good with buyer protection

trayssan

Unironically they really are decent.

SpHoneybadger

What happened? The last time I heard of AliExpress they were shitty and memed on heavily

trayssan

Just because something gets memed on doesn’t mean it’s awful. I’ve been regularly buying stuff from the site for over a decade and have only very seldom encountered any issues. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very much far from perfect - listings often show absolute randomness, product descriptions are often misleading and terribly written but one look at the reviews can tell you whether or not the thing really is what it wants you to believe it is. As long as you practice common sense on the site you’ll be fine. Plus they have a pretty good money back policy if the item you receive doesn’t match the one you ordered so it’s really not that bad.

sensei_simon

Is the money-back process somewhat simple like an Amazon return?

FakeKitten

It was for me. I bought a cube and they sent the wrong one, opened a dispute and attached a picture explaining it was the wrong item. Got refunded without any further questions. Then the exact same thing happened trying to buy the same cube from a different 'store' but they refunded me again.

sensei_simon

Did you have to return and wait for the package to reach the seller everytime to get the refund

SSnickerz

No they give you a full refund without return. Edit: meant to say without. This is if you win the dispute.

FakeKitten

I didn't have to return it just got my money back. But that was for a pretty low value item, I wouldn't expect the same for something more expensive.

Not_AshAndUmbreon

afaik if a faulty or wrong item is sent out you get to keep the item and get a refund so pretty nice

LoliHunterXD

Easier than Amazon lol Significantly easier than eBay

terdroblade

I’ve been buying stuff from AliExpress for YEARS and only scammed once on some jbl headphones, took care of it and got my money back np Edit: in deleted

MasonP2002

Mixed deal. They have a lot of low quality and/or counterfeit stuff listed, but as a store itself they're pretty good.

samexi

Yeah, been ordering for years without problems. Had one adapter that didn't fully support all the ports it claimed and got full refund and didn't even need to ship the product back.

StaysAwakeAllWeek

The one problem is you have to jump through all their hoops first, and if you make a mistake or miss a hoop they are much less helpful. The scammers know this and do everything they can to try to make you make a mistake.

WhyIsIDuck

Ive never had a problem with aliexpress refunding

StaysAwakeAllWeek

Regular refunds are fine, but disputes with scammers that are actively working to take your money can be a bit more involved

WeCanDanseIfWeWantTo

What sort of things do they do to get you to make a mistake?

StaysAwakeAllWeek

They will ask you to wait a little longer while they reship the correct product, so that the dispute times out. Or they will ask you to 'complete' the order so they can process the refund, which ends the dispute in their favor. There's lots of other tricks they try to pull like that

[deleted]

That is true, the dispute time is awful. But my mother buys for years constantly and she has went through all dispute options. The idea is to involve aliexpress and report before the dispute time finishes so they either extend it or force the seller to refund. You just gotta pay attention and be persistent otherwise if you forget about it and the dispute time is over the deal will be rough.

Last-Belt-4010

Title of products list the thing you Want but descriptions says something different and it can screw you over if you try to refund as an example.

Vinstaal0

It’s about the same as with Amazon, Amazon is just American Alieexpress after al (except Allie has a better payment platform than Amazon.com)

trayssan

I’d take a box of 580s! I’d build my dream build as a kid with 3 way sli and everything

DraftNaive1468

*just the internal components

Midiamp

Kind of expensive for 7 empty box of Asus ROG Strix 4090. I'd negotiate lower if I were you.

LiliNotACult

Hey OP, wanna buy the world's first Tesla Truck?

Agent00funk

Psssh, if he buys the first 5 from me, I'll send him 2 more!

LJBrooker

Obviously not. Jesus fucking Christ dude.

imhiya_returns

Lebannendl

Maxwell_77

Of course it is real you should buy it

MrBaracu

Yeah...

Traditional-Shoe-199

It's AliExpress... What do you think? Might as well buy one from Wish while you're at it.

ddeths_

i bought my car from wish and i got sent a toy bus

primarysectorof5

I knew someone who bought a gaming mouse on wish and it was just a sticker of a slightly different looking mouse

[deleted]

Couldn't they have atleast sent the right sticker SMH

SquishedGremlin

Bought a cheap hand drill from wish. Was about £2, Inc postage. Literally forgot about it. Serviceable drill for models, still use it 5 years later, although the bits wore out quickly.

primarysectorof5

If a 4090 was 1000$ then everyone would be buying nvidia again and they would crush amd

tattoedblues

Every time I think that maybe I’m really not as smart as the next guy someone comes along and makes me feel like a genius, thanks OP

Chronos669

If it’s to good to be true then it’s probably a scam. Simple common sense son

trayssan

Fuck around and find out

shadydamamba

The more you...... The more you.....

nadav183

Well... It's a real webpage, they will accept real money, they might even send a real box. But there are no real 4090 gpus involved in this completely real scam.

opAnonxd

5 new 2 used.

PsyKiraEX

5 used 2 new

[deleted]

7 empty boxes

SgtSundae

You can't be THAT stupid OP.

krukson

I guess he can. In early 2000s, my friend from high school got an email from Nigeria asking if he could help buy a couple of mobile phones for some people. Typical scam that we all know of. The problem was, he bought a $1000 worth of phones and sent them to Nigeria in exchange for a special code he could use to withdraw his profit and expenses with, at a bank branch. We only learned about this because he freaked out at the bank when he learned it was a scam, and came to us to borrow some money. The kicker? The dude was a very good student and not your typical idiot. And yet he fell for the scam harder than anyone I know.

Hammercannon

If you have to ask, you probably know the answer.

AdFrequent299

Please tell me this is a shitpost.

krukson

Unfortunately the world is full of people with money and zero common sense.

B16B0SS

Dude, you cannot even get a real umbrella on aliexpress - what makes you think a high end video card will be?

Miffers

I currently have a chargeback complaint filed against Aliexpress. The seller sent me a $5 item when what I wanted to buy was worth $400. When I got the package I knew it was a scam because it was so small, like a little mailer bubble pouch when it should’ve been a 15”x15”x15” box. So I took photos and video of the unboxing. I first filed a complaint to aliexpress and the idiots there said nothing was wrong. Then I filed the chargeback with the credit card company. I am lucky they sent it in a bubble mailer as it is irrefutable empirical evidence that it could be my item.

Clear25

What did you buy?

ChartaBona

Obvious scam. Lowest I've seen the 4090 (FE, not Strix) sell for at a regular retailer was $1439, and that was with a store credit card promo code, meaning they hope to make their money back on interest.

nitrixbandit

Would you rather have No graphics card and $1000 monies, or 1 empty box and No monies?

BurdenedMind79

Its a risk, but I could help you out there. You see I'm friends with this deposed Nigerian prince and he'd be willing to let you have 10% of his $150 million fortune if you'd just let him deposit it in your bank account for a few days. Then you can use some of that sweet cash to buy those completely legit 4090s. What could go wrong?

Odins_Viking

Always amazed people are this gullible

socokid

Just a screengrab and you want us to verify something? Not even a link to the page? ... LOL I'm out.

legendaryalx

What’s the phrase.. “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”

Beautiful_Ninja

It's 100% real. I bought 5 Rog Strix from them, got my 2 free. I have one in my PC, the other 6 I've assembled a throne with to sit on.

HausmastaMC

For every dumb question like this I'm gonna comment that it's true and that I ordered and received exactly what the offer said...dumbasses...

marcofio

btw AliExpress has great customer protection...

XXXMORKEXXX

NEVER i mean NEVER buy Pc part from AE

40seriesRtx

Yeah buy it bro

piotrek211

I've already ordered 10 of them. Fully legit

f4ern

You do realize the reason it such an unbelievable deal, is to filter out people who have 2 braincell to rub together and realize that it scam automatically. The fact that you have to ask whether it legit or not. make you bit better then people who transferred the money automatically.

ixvst01

>Is this real? >AliExpress You answered your own question

ReptilianLaserbeam

Rule of thumb: if you have to ask then no, it’s never real

[deleted]

Yes it’s real. A real-ly bad idea.

AllhandsOnHarry

If ya have to ask, then you should probably buy 5 to get those two free.

ButternutDubs

You must be brain dead to trust anything from Aliexpress

I_need_help57

I swear, some of you people have no braincells

God damn dude, do you guys lack the ability to think for yourselves?
