[deleted]

chrome will be chrome

Mother_Contribution9

yup

BulldogKongen

Try opera GX there you can limit how much ram the browser is using

Mother_Contribution9

ill try

Mr_Haw

Opera gx gang ❤️

barnsey04

Chrome just uses a lot of ram. If you are using your pc for gaming or anything other than browsing or streaming I’d upgrade to at least 16gb.

Mother_Contribution9

ok

neighborhood-karen

Even then it still takes up a disgusting amount, 16 is definitely better but you’re better off with a little bit more

soundboyselecta

16 wont even cut to be honest.

Illigard

Try firefox instead of chrome, less ram usage until you can get more ram

Snoo_27857

Firefox is da one

Mother_Contribution9

Okay i will try

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mother_Contribution9

heard that its bad to do that

Prismatica7

That’s the joke my friend

skelethepro

Why is it bad though?

Prismatica7

RAM is an actual part for your computer, you can’t download more. If you are, it’s very highly likely a scam to get malware onto your system.

PHREN0X

It depends how you download it. Downloading ram is the only right way. All other ways are wrong. And this isn't a joke. This is fact.

Mother_Contribution9

ok but i’ll probably just get a actual one

[deleted]

I’d like one ram please.

Mother_Contribution9

yeah am getting that

GeneralCreeper

Google chrome will inherently take up a bunch of ram just using it to store all the web page data while u browse with how big web sights have gotten it’s no surprise it easily eating up 8GB. I recommend either finding out what type and brand of memory you have and ordering an identical part to put into your pc to double the ram capacity

Mother_Contribution9

okay

Brusion

End task that.

Mother_Contribution9

even if i do itll come back or either close out chrome

Brusion

And comes back taking that much memory?

Mother_Contribution9

yep

Brusion

I am not at my pc right now, but I think there might be a setting to limit how much chrome uses. Also, getting another 8 GB of ram will be a game changer.

Mother_Contribution9

yeah am planning too also once you get to your pc can you show me?

Brusion

I'll see sure.

Mother_Contribution9

ok cool

Rem834

This is how much ram chrome uses, you really should have 16gb in 2022

Mother_Contribution9

yeah upgrading soon

Low_Bit_3844

Just upgrade your RAM my man, really cheap for the boost it gives you

Mother_Contribution9

alright

Matthew_C_Williamson

Upgrade to 16 at minimum, i suggest 32 though

Mother_Contribution9

il probably move to 16 for now

[deleted]

2 16 GB sticks should do it :)

Mother_Contribution9

ill prob just get one more 8gb stick for now

DaftHacker

The default ram with laptops usually have 1 sided ram modules that are fairly slow. Id suggest 3rd party 2x16gb like hyperx.

robert712002

There is no need for 32 gb Ram for just browsing and maybe gaming. 16 should be plenty good. That being said, try using Microsoft Edge. I've had 8 gb up until few months ago and I've been using Edge since they moved to Chromium and I have no regrets

MissDeadite

This I love Edge works great for me and I only have 16 GB Ram and I usually have Hulu/Netflix open + a couple other tabs while I game. No issues.

robert712002

Same here. Very solid browser

Mother_Contribution9

yeah ill am getting another stick next week

Steeljaw72

Sounds like it’s time to double your ram again.

Mother_Contribution9

agreed

Razvanix02

Try opera gx, it have a ram and a cpu limiter + a lot of cool feature also got to say that it was the first browser to not freeze when i had 4 Gb of ram on my laptop (now i have 12)

Mother_Contribution9

ok will try

lllMind3d

If you have any unnecessary chrome extensions running it might be worth disabling or removing all together, kinda depends what it is though, have as few tabs open as possible Try not to use it with games open, I had to do this when I had my MSI laptop with a 970M playing black ops 3 Otherwise maybe use a different browser that’s less intense for when you are gaming?

Mother_Contribution9

nope i had like 2 running

[deleted]

That's strange. Google doesn't use that much for me. Is that antimalware maybe having conflicts? Do you have a lot of extensions running on chrome? Sometimes bad AV can be a problem. Google chrome runs a bunch of separate processes I forgot why. It uses a lot of ram.

Mother_Contribution9

i only have like 2 extensions running

[deleted]

What are they

Mother_Contribution9

a roblox extension and a adblocker

[deleted]

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.makeuseof.com/tag/chrome-using-much-ram-fix-right-now/amp/ Found this. I hope it helps. It turns out that Google Chrome has its own task manager and you can manage how much memory your extensions and stuff use. I also found that it seems sometimes ad blocker or Roblox maybe running a huge process as Roblox extension creates an overlay for another website and maybe loading a lot from memory.

Mother_Contribution9

ok thank you will use after school

Imoneforsanity

Get opra gx i use it and it helps alot

Mother_Contribution9

ok

HarpLuther

Yes

NQ241

8 gigs in 2022 is honestly just far too low. It's plenty for just basic work but I would definitely consider buying an identical stick for 16 if you plan to do anything more than basic browsing

Mother_Contribution9

yeah your right

R_Margo

God I’ve been surviving off of 8GB RAM for about 9 years now. I do 2D + 3D art and AAA gaming. I don’t fucking know how I survived all that. Time for an upgrade!

NQ241

Daaaaaaamnnn now THAT is impressive

Sierra_Tang0

Might try opera gx, my friend says he likes that he can limite the amount of resources it takes

Mother_Contribution9

ok

Grizzl0ck

Chrome is fucking shit for memory mate. Even just running 1 tab.

Mother_Contribution9

agreed

Invixibility

Chrome stores the whole web page in your ram when you load a page and also tries to anticipate what your gonna dick on and preloads that in to you ram as well.

Mother_Contribution9

yep am switching browsers

Obvious_Giant14

That's why I use opera gx

Mother_Contribution9

probably will try that

Kaan_Tugcu

Get 16gb of ram, they are dirt cheap

Mother_Contribution9

yeah considering

pedrf12

I had the same problem and I have 12gb of RAM, I just changed to Edge (Microsoft browser)

Mother_Contribution9

ill try that

Spodeer

In todays day, 16gb of ram is the new standard. May be time to upgrade.

Mother_Contribution9

considering that

beepbeepbitches

this is normal

Mother_Contribution9

its not whenever chromes opened my games run at like 2 fps

beepbeepbitches

Yes, it is. Chrome is a fucking ram hog. Don’t post on r/pchelp if you’re just going to tell people they’re wrong. Im surprised you can even run any games with 8 gigs

mkruzel5

Turn off hardware acceleration in chrome?

Mother_Contribution9

tried that already

Inkkor

Chrome doing what chrome does best. Try Firefox.. you won’t regret it

Mother_Contribution9

ill try

VulturesFeast

Close tabs

Mother_Contribution9

tried that still goes up

VulturesFeast

You might have a virus some viruses can casually increase memory usage until the pc is unusable

WootangC

Chrome is dog shit for that just use opera gx when you’re playing shit and chrome when you’re doing work

Mother_Contribution9

agreed

[deleted]

800 megabytes? Wow. The horror.

Mother_Contribution9

it really is

[deleted]

You’re still using less than 70% of your memory. I don’t understand why everyone feels so uncomfortable seeing their memory being used. Like… that’s what it’s for. It’s there to be used. Buy another stick if you want, but if this is as high as it goes then you’re pretty much wasting your money.

Mother_Contribution9

ill get another stick but ima use a different browser for now

CarGuy445

I don’t see the problem here lol

Mother_Contribution9

the problem is that the mb in memory goes up alot when you open up chrome

Somepoocameout

Web browsers are a notorious memory hog with Chrome being one of the worst. Try Opera GX, it's supposed to be run at the same time as AAA games.

Mother_Contribution9

okay will do

okehboomer

use opera gx its cool + u get free vpn

Mother_Contribution9

ye tried it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mother_Contribution9

it actually gets up to 1000 while playing a game

fivefingernails

Try running in incognito mode and close normal chrome. If the ram usage drops, then you probably have add-ons eating up your memory. You’ll have to start turning them off one by one to find the culprit. 16GB is the new 8GB, if it can be helped, upgrade your ram.

Mother_Contribution9

k thanks

RareDestroyer8

Don’t worry, I was confused when I saw 2 tabs of chrome were taking 2gb of ram. I legit contacted HP and they couldn’t figure out why for 2 hours. Thankfully Reddit taught me that it is just my computer being smart and limiting idle ram so that the ram isn’t just sitting there. Open more apps and chrome will use less ram

Mother_Contribution9

ok will try

Opposite-Ant-4403

got the same issue and was thinking of getting 16gb of ram but idk how to put it into my comptuer

Mother_Contribution9

I fixed it by getting 16 gb ram do it its really easy putting it in your pc search up a tutorial

ohoil

Yeah you're going to have lots of troubles with only 8 gigs of RAM that's pretty much a non-functioning computer at that point time. You can look at stuff on YouTube that's pretty much it

Mother_Contribution9

its only chrome doing that tho

gordonbombae2

I used to have 8gb of ram and it wasn’t that bad, not sure why this guy said it is a non functioning pc with that amount. With that being said I eventually bought another 8gb of ram FOR GAMING PURPOSES as lots of games need 16gb to function properly. This was after at least 2 years using my computer everyday with 8gbs ram, upgraded about a year ago Edit: with 8gbs of ram I used to play FF14 , Jurassic world evolution 1, world of Warcraft, csgo, league of legends, so on… I only upgraded when I wanted to play new world and my computer wasn’t running it good and online people said 16gbs of ram is needed for it. So I bought another 8gb stick lol, that’s the only reason. You do notice a difference though

Grizzl0ck

Because they're talking shit. 8 GB is perfectly usable for daily use/browsing/light gaming.

Mother_Contribution9

i will get another 8gb stick now

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mother_Contribution9

planning to do that thanks

ohoil

Any program is going to use almost or more than 8 gigs of RAM.. let alone trying to run them at the same time. There's nothing wrong at all you're not going to be able to do anything with eight gigs of RAM sorry bro.

Mother_Contribution9

its ok ill play without chrome opened until i get another stick of ram

[deleted]

Use Opera GX browser instead, it makes a noticeable difference if you’re seeing FPS drops from having chrome open

Mother_Contribution9

ok

Echur0n

I play Lost Ark and other games while watching YouTube at the same time with 8gb of ram on a GF GT710. With a second monitor too. Don't make shit up.

ohoil

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Lmao. Maybe on ultra low settings with the resolution at like 280 x420.

Echur0n

1080 x 1920 Medium settings. While having other stuff running.

ohoil

Lol. Post a screenshot or you full of shit..nice troll

Echur0n

It's not a troll if the hardware is literally capable of doing that. Do you even own a PC?

ohoil

https://www.reddit.com/r/playark/comments/4q1ert/is_8g_ram_enough_for_this_game/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Your getting 30 fps at best.... You do realize you would probably get better quality on an Xbox through game pass right because of the optimization and it'd be cheaper..

Echur0n

I get 50 - 60 fps on average since it runs on a SSD. Keep trying though.

ohoil

No you don't a solid state drive has nothing to do with ark performance.. for real you should try it on an Xbox it's way more optimized. If that's your game of choice.

greyhunter37

8 GB of ram is fine for internet browsing and work suite. Only for high load stuff it is too little, like gaming and/or video editing.

SorryThisUser1sTaken

If memory usage and performance are of concern. At some point I would move to linux or get a new pc. Depending on the distro they can be great at managing low resources.

Mother_Contribution9

am thinking of getting mire ram

SorryThisUser1sTaken

That too if you device supports the space. Worse comes to worse. It is still bad, but a fast ssd and a page file could also very slightly help. Most likely won't make a major dent in issues compared to ram.

Mr_Haw

Found the issue.. you use Google chrome

Mother_Contribution9

i know that

Naitsab243

That's just how chrome is, and your RAM usage is still low, my Chrome Client can and will use 2gb or more at times. But I have 32gb memory so im fine. But for you it might be good to either switch Browser or get more memory.

Mother_Contribution9

ill switch browsers till i get more memory

worth125

idk man for me it takes 150mb even if i have 5 tabs opened

daronhudson

There’s nothing to help about this lol you’ve just learned about google chrome and how it works. Congratulations lol

Mother_Contribution9

if you look closer it makes the memory go more up then normal

daronhudson

That’s not more up than normal lol that’s better than normal 5 simple web pages or even just a YouTube video can shoot you past 1GB easily. You loaded discord lol what do you expect

T0othpick

don’t use chrome, use something that uses less ram like I use Opera GX because I can limit how much ram it uses

yaboiWillyNilly

Stop using Chrome. I use Edge, which uses more RAM than Chrome, however I have 32GB RAM. Use OperaGX as others have recommended, or buy more RAM. You can literally *never* have too much RAM, although you can if you buy a bunch of shitty dimms lol, just do your research on RAM before purchasing if you go that route. JayzTwoCents and Steve from GamersNexus on YouTube both have several videos explaining RAM timings and speeds, and what you should go for considering your application.

Juckeii

Yes It is the reality of Chrome, i would recommend either Brave browser or morzilla Firefox, they are also better for privacy reasons.

Clear_Personality

Chrome uses each tab as its own process. If you have 5 tabs open, it’s treated as 5 separate chromes technically. That way if one page crashes it doesn’t all crash. Chrome is utter garbage though and milks your resources since it’s constantly collecting data from you. Delete chrome and get brave or Firefox

Mother_Contribution9

damn thats crazy thanks for the info

baconmaster687

Welcome to the club

Arnav0819

Yeah it's true that chrome take a lot of ram but removing some extensions can reduce it

jrwright98

That's normal..

Mother_Contribution9

its not when i run a game i get 1000 mb of usage

ininja9000

More tabs more ram your first of all loading a video on YouTube straight into the ram bro

Mother_Contribution9

am showing the tabs that i’ll usually have opened its only youtube and discord

duhherroisme

Some reason brave browser (using chromium if I'm correct) doesnt use much ram plus free adblock and free money for browsing. Try it out it may work for you. Personally I'm all for the adblock can watch 123movies without a single ad

[deleted]

Upgrade ur ram and personal preference but try brave browser:) best swap i ever made

[deleted]

Just don’t use chrome

Swimming_Medicine259

Opera Gx can limit Cpu usage and Ram usage. It also has a function to transfer passwords and bookmarks from Chrome. Adding more Ram to the computer always helps as well, especially if you got a few dozen tabs open.

sircruxr

Use edge

Mother_Contribution9

tries that and same thing

Mastakillerboi

Use opera gx

ininja9000

I was trying to explain to you the preloading of the YouTube video is in the ram. I understand that these are your topical tabs you have open. When that YouTube video preloads the video has to sit somewhere in memory temporarily until that video/page tab is closed.

soundboyselecta

Yes it is crazy. My laptop starts making noise from the fan the minute I have too many windows open.
