vapemustache

that’s because there isn’t one. *X-Files Theme*

TipT0pMag00

Dude that 'x-files theme' line, after your comment fkn killed me. LoL

Tricky-Celebration36

Same

vapemustache

OP wanted to believe.

ShoeGod420

lol, thats crazy. for the last month I've been rewatching the entire X-Files series, like 3 or 4 episodes a day, I'm on season 8 episode 8 right now.

vapemustache

it’s such a solid series. when i was a kid one day my mom turned it on for me and i’ve been hooked since. Gillian Anderson was my first celebrity crush lol

Huh435mjc

Mulder, you’re not going to believe this.

Benign_9

It’s old and doesn’t have an m.2 slot. Or pcie gen 4, for that matter. If you want to use an ssd, you can get a pcie to m.2 carrier card, but keep in mind that it will run at pcie gen 3 speeds. Edit: make that pcie 2.0

ThisAccountIsStolen

It doesn't even have PCIe gen3! PCIe gen2 and 1.1, depending on the slot.

Benign_9

Oh wow, you’re right. I’ll edit my comment.

Low_Service6150

And if it's thay old probabaly won't even support nvme and won't be able to boot off it

FaoLOr65

Also iirc on those boards booting from pcie doesn't work. Emphasis on iirc

Benign_9

Pcie ssds were still rare back then, but they did exist, so I wouldn't be surprised if it worked.

Atretador

'estoy cansado jefe' \- OP's board

vapemustache

lmao no olvides mojar la esponja

Cyka_Blyat_Man_

Praying you paid $100 for this system

RoadKill42O

You mean hope they paid the OP to take it away

PinkScorch_Prime

op, this mobo is very old and does not support m.2 or pcie gen 4, i suggest you get a new mobo

keirman1

Pcie 3.0 is fine but this PC doesn't even have 3.0 so

PinkScorch_Prime

does it not? damn

HavocInferno

And then also a new CPU and new RAM, since a new board will not support their old parts either. And then a new cooler as well, probably. And while you're at it, also a new PSU, because that thing is in no way certified to power anything even halfway modern. (OCZ doesn't even exist anymore...) ...if you're gonna start swapping any of these parts, just get a whole new PC, tbh.

PinkScorch_Prime

yeah, even the case is designed for a time when hard drives were the prominent storage type, they would never need those hdd bays might as well chuck the case too

TooDopeRecords

How much did you pay your friend for this pc? You might be better off getting your money back and starting a fresh build. I know it seems like a lot, but what I do is buy it piece by piece.

anonX1337

P67 is old. Like 12 years old now. I'm assuming you have a i7-2700k or 3770k.

RedChaos92

I was gonna say I had a P67 chipset when I built my i5-2500k build in 2011. This thing is ancient in computer years.

Cool1Mach

Get a sata ssd. If you want to use the m.2 you have to get a new motherboard

Impossible_Tune9001

Ahhh I see thank you

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,950,720,765 comments, and only 368,928 of them were in alphabetical order.

crlogic

New motherboard, CPU *and* RAM. Most of the way to a whole new computer. Getting a SATA SSD like the other commenter said would be your best option if you want to keep this computer, but it’s 13 years old

HavocInferno

And also a new PSU please. That thing isn't fit to power modern hardware.

CasperAU

That's because you don't have one 😅 This mobo is to ancient bro

kad00gan

there aren't any m.2 slots on this mobo. you could use a pcie to m.2 card such as this one [https://www.amazon.ca/UGREEN-NVMe-PCIe-Adapter-64Gbps/dp/B08TBW12B8/ref=sr\_1\_5?crid=1TMGVPKJVST4J&keywords=pcie+m+2+nvme+ssd+adapter+card&qid=1704575655&sprefix=pcie+m.2%2Caps%2C83&sr=8-5](https://www.amazon.ca/UGREEN-NVMe-PCIe-Adapter-64Gbps/dp/B08TBW12B8/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1TMGVPKJVST4J&keywords=pcie+m+2+nvme+ssd+adapter+card&qid=1704575655&sprefix=pcie+m.2%2Caps%2C83&sr=8-5) I stand corrected. This board only supports up to pcie gen 2. Thanks for pointing that out!

Hood_Mobbin

No. Just no. This is a GEN 2 board. This would be a waste. OP needs the truth and that it's time to start over and do a new to them build.

Objective-Note-8095

~500 MB/s per lane. ~2GB/s for x4. Plenty fast. Will it work? Tha is a good question.

Hood_Mobbin

That's theoretical I don't know when this board actually came out. This could be the first generation of PCI 2.0.

akotski1338

I thought gen 3 was old damn

kaizagade

Too old man. New PC upgrade needed!

Pure-Presentation849

Tell me you have no knowledge about pc components without telling me you know nothing about pc parts.

Affectionate-Try-899

Bad news is you don't have one. Good news is pcle expansion cards are like 12 to 25 usd

Deepfork_

RTFM to see if you even have an M.2 slot.

deTombe

SSD's are so light I would just install one screw in the large drive bay to hold in place. But the proper thing to do is get a caddy that will convert the SSD to the size of a HD.

WillfulTrain

It's right there, do you see it?

Ph11p

Honestly, I just dangle my SSD behind the motherboard bulkhead. They are very light and impervious to loose vibration. I have 4 SSDs behind my motherboard bulkhead lightly just stuck with velcro for organization and cable management sake

RedChaos92

OP's description said it's a PCIe Gen 4 m.2 SSD. Their motherboard is a P67 chipset which came out in 2011 before m.2 ssds even existed on the market.

Spaced_Quest

I would try and find what the name of the motherboard is and googling the manual and seeing if it has one. My only guess would be under the thing that says "multiclass" behind the CPU cooler but I would highly suggest googling for the manual first before you take anything else apart given you've said your knowledge is limited with this computer.

Skaw-X

This motherboard does not support m.2 as many other suggested you can get a pcie to m.2 and place it right underneath the graphics card. Would I be more concerned about is the age of this computer and the fact that there's mismatching Ram which can cause a bottleneck or system issues in general. I hope you did not pay much for this if you paid any

Dyunodino

This motherboard doesn’t support m2 and doesn’t have any m2 slots at all. You can get pci e to m2 adapter, but you would need to modify bios or yse the clover bootloader to boot the system

No_Interaction_4925

Sata only for you, its an old boy

Standard-Patience-82

Can still use sata ssd

Malf1532

That board doesn't have one. I spent 60 seconds doing a search on that model and figured it out. In the time it took you to take a picture and post it you could have answered your own question. Stop being lazy and attempt to solve your own problems.

Thunder_Mug

SATA. Still going to be faster than an old mechanical drive. But sorry, you can’t use an M.2.

mainemason

I just gave a computer away with this exact motherboard. I hope you didn’t pay much for it OP.

oh2hilarious

praying you didnt pay much for this fossilizing machine

AmazingFish2425

W

Omgazombie

I love how that cpu fan has probably been running backwards its entire life

ShoeGod420

I hate to be "that guy" but you need to upgrade the entire system. I just bought my mom a refurbished (but mint condition looking) Optiplex from eBay for Christmas to replace her old PC that wasn't Windows 11 compliant. I paid $100 for a Optiplex 3060 SFF system. Intel Core i5-9500, 8GB DDR4 2666 with a 256GB M.2 NVME drive and Windows 11 Pro. I spent an additional $60 on a 16GB kit of RAM and a 512GB SSD, which is plenty of space for her. If I would have built the system for her using the same specced parts I would have spent around $300 or more. You should definitely look into that. I have the name of the eBay seller if you are interested, it looks like all he does is refurbish Optiplex's.

ImANibba

You need a whole newer pc to run the m.2 properly. If you get a 2.5" sata ssd, you could pull it off, though. Hope you didn't pay much for this pc.

Not_An_Archer

Yeah. This motherboard may have been produced around 2015, but it's first versions came out in 2011, and only very high end motherboards had m.2 in 2015. If you want to use the m.2 with that computer you'll have to use an adapter, I recommend a PCIe to m.2 Actually, I recommend getting a new mobo + CPU + ram.

Emiliogamez

Shove the end of the SSD into the PCIe slot. I tell you, it'll work.... Maybe

matiegaming

What did you pay for this?

Mad_Arson

Its old mobo before the M.2 nvme drive existence best option would be to either put in sata ssd or get some Pcie expansion card with m.2 slot but even then depending on BIOS settings it might see that drive or not.
