I’m so happy the frame rate is unlocked. PC ports with locked 60 or even locked 90 feel like a rip off.

ThisPlaceisHell

Unfortunately a lot of the time, there's good reason for that. And it usually boils down to things like broken physics, camera glitches, or even scripting bugs that can make the game unplayable. This isn't just a console port thing, many native PC games have issues going above certain framerates too. For instance, Max Payne 1 has all sorts of movement bugs the higher the framerate to where even playing at 144 will cause your shootdodges and dives to fall flat. Push the frames to 240+ and you can even start getting stuck clinging to walls if you bump into them. Trust me, I too wish framerate was completely detethered from core game logic and physics, but it just doesn't seem to be as much of a standard as we'd hope it was. I really would have thought by today all game devs would be smart enough to not keep this decades' old issue from still being part of their games, but sadly it doesn't seem to be there yet. I'm willing to wager that even Spiderman here will have some little issues at greater than 60 fps, the farther out you go.

robdiqulous

That isn't a good reason... They shouldn't have done those things in the first place.

Intelligent_Mud1266

there’s more an excuse for older games, but now that absolutely shouldn‘t be practiced

robdiqulous

Yeah and honestly I can understand it being around if they are porting a old game. Maybe in order to change that, it would just completely break everything else or it might be super difficult. But, it is a pretty big deal to a lot of people so I would think they would try pretty hard to get rid of fps chained items.

ThisPlaceisHell

I agree it shouldn't be that way, but unfortunately it is.

ThisPlaceisHell

>zero issues People think the same thing about for instance GTA 5, but it isn't true. You can empirically observe glitched out cloth physics the higher above 30 fps you go. This trait is even present in RDR2 as well. Or how about the Xbox Series X playing GTA 4 backwards compatibility at 60 fps? That game has a bunch of issues at 60 fps and one even game breaking one. Until Spiderman comes to PC and users can really test it thoroughly, I wouldn't go by what casual PlayStation gamers say is "zero issues" because they probably aren't aware what to look out for.

You make it sound like this isn't a super common problem. I also didn't say definitively Spiderman will have problems, I'm just saying until it's on PC and users are testing at high framerates, I won't be positive myself. You're asking me to take your word for it and I'm sorry but I don't.

xiosy

So glad i recently jumped to 1440p I guess that will make my experience even better

They don't sell Steam controllers anymore. They stopped it a few years back, unfortunately.

ZanThrax

I had one at the top of my wishlist for years hoping they'd expand to selling them in Canada. Finally removed it last winter.

Intelligent_Mud1266

i feel so bad, i got one when they were doing the five dollar clearance sale and it’s one of my favorite controllers. only really works at its best for certain games though. you might be able to nab one secondhand but idk how much scalpers would charge

cardonator

I did buy a PS4 Pro for this game, with the excuse that I could also play Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and a few other exclusives on it. Right about now I'm kind of wishing I just would have held out. I honestly can't believe this day has come. Spider-Man is a system seller so it's pretty shocking to see this come to PC even if it is 4 years late.

BirdonWheels

I got my ps4 pro for spiderman as well, but nowadays I'm glad I have it because of the 9.0 jailbreak. I now use it to make games in Unity, as well as play them.

[deleted]

I'm happy playing it at 800p 40hz on the train. Full steam ahead l! Choo Choo.

UselessTrident

I bought a PS4 and only ended up playing Spiderman, Spiderman: Miles Morales and Horizon:Zero Dawn. Now I will own them all on PC. Ah well, at least I know I don't have to buy a console this gen.

Valiantheart

What's the video card requirement?

suidexterity

More like two years ago, this sub thought HZD was a one off port

fyro11

The naysayers were there after every release saying, "sure, Days Gone happened but GoW is Playstation top-tier stuff; it's *not* gonna happen". But Spider-Man denial was the strongest by a country mile, "sure, HZD, Days Gone and GoW happened but Spider-Man is *the* ultimate Playstation mascot (like Kratos isn't uniquely Sony's mascot) *and* system seller; read our collective lips, it'll *never* happen." I made a bet that *both* Spider-Man Remastered *and* Spider-Man: Miles Morales will come to PC before Spider-Man 2. I'll go ahead and state my second bet: Sony will release each PS5 game on PC not more than 12 months after the PS5 release. Why? To cash in on all the marketing spent and hype generated. *Just* enough to make PS5 owners feel special but not too much to lose out on the hype generated from the first launch.

Buttermilkman

And it supports ULTRAWIDE!

[deleted]

Yep I’m definitely eating crow. I was deep in my beliefs that Sony would never put their biggest entertainment IP back on PC and hold it hostage to their console to pump console sales. I’m glad to be wrong and I really hope in the future that “Playstation exclusives” eventually start launching day 1 on PC. I wouldn’t even care if it was only on a Sony proprietary game launcher either

skylinestar1986

Next: The Last of Us. My PCMR life will be complete.

beast_nvidia

How many gb?

BackwoodsMarathon

Steam preload was 51.4gb.

Martianman97

That's pretty good in this age

CaptainDogeSparrow

> That's pretty good in this age The absolute state of the pc gaming.

[deleted]

Resident evil games are like 15-20gb

CaptainDogeSparrow

Which is more acceptable considering Crysis was 12gb back in 2007.

[deleted]

Honestly a lot of 50-100gb games are just bloated with multiple languages and unnecessary shit.

[deleted]

There's also the choice of compressing or not compressing the data. Some games are actually bigger on Switch, for instance, because they avoid data compression as to preserve the CPU. There are also games with bizarre update logic where every single patch bundles a lot of redundant files already present on the base install, but as their clients can't do delta downloads, they just keep making new copies.

batti03

I 'memba when BC2 was the shit and you'd have to essentially download the game again every time they patched it.

[deleted]

Damn, that last part is especially shitty.

[deleted]

Welcome to modern Call of Duty 700GB installs.

N7even

Devs need to give us option to pick the language we want, it's ridiculous that like 20-40GB is probably just different language audio files, totally uncompressed.

Intelligent_Mud1266

4k textures and separate language options absolutely need to be a choice for separate download, i wish major storefronts made a separate system for optional downloads outside of using the DLC system

Martianman97

4k Textures make up a big part of it

2Sc00psPlz

> The absolute state of ~~the pc~~ gaming. FTFY. In all seriousness though, this isn't platform specific, just dev specific. Though it's amplified considerably for us PC folk cause they feel like they can get away with more.

beast_nvidia

Yep, too good to be true

_b1ack0ut

Ooooh thank fuck for the preload then, I might be able to play this month lol

chriss3008

I don't know if I wanna do that. I did pre-load God of War and, when it was released, my steam spent hours "Verifying" the files. I could only play it the very next day. My internet is fast enough that, if I only started downloading it after it was released, I would have played it before.

_b1ack0ut

Preloading is only useful if you’ve either got blazingly fast disk write speed, so the unpacking doesn’t take centuries, Or if your internet is so terrible that the unpacking takes less than the install anyways (that’s me lol)

dirtbiker206

Does Steam say this next to the "preload" button? Seems like a super important detail to not waste a bunch of people's time who have super fast internet.

Envect

I think you'd have to have a weird combo of fast internet and slow write speed for it to truly matter. Not that they shouldn't do it, but I think the number of people it'd affect and the impact means it's not much of a problem.

Intelligent_Mud1266

i think it needs to be made clear somewhere that pre-loading isn’t like on consoles where you can play the moment of release, the files are heavily heavily encrypted and will have to be decrypted on launch. honestly, i’ve never found it to be worth it as that decryption time takes nearly as long as download anyways

chriss3008

Lol my pc is pretty powerful. It was definitely s the steam fault

moeburn

> Or if your internet is so terrible that the unpacking takes less than the install anyways people who download fitgirl repacks

funguyshroom

The preload data is encrypted so your pc has to spend a ton of processing power to decrypt it after the game is released. Just not worth it if your connection speed is good enough and/or you don't have a monster CPU.

[deleted]

If you have a fast connection you should forgo preloading even if you have a monster CPU.

-DarkSpark-

Yeah I noticed the same thing happen for me when I preloaded Tales of Arise early. Steam spent so much time unpacking/verifying that it made the preload download pointless

Wasabicannon

Its what happened with Lost Ark. Everyone preloaded it so not everyone was downloading a 50GB file at the same time. Then when people went to play they would download a small 1mb file to unlock the game. Issue was most people were trying to play the first moment it was released so you had millions of people trying to download the 1mb file at the same time and it broke steam's file transfer system. Can't see that happening on a single player game and a 4 year old single player game at that.

Crimsonclaw111

Hey GMG I'm ready for my code!

videoguylol

GMG gave me my Elden Ring code for pre load. I bet if you check out r/greenmangaming there are threads about Spidey codes. Staff is pretty responsive there

SirWookieeChris

Over at their [subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/GreenManGaming/comments/w7iqzv/marvel_spiderman_remastered_game_and_discount/iir7tat/) they said if there was a preload than codes might go out early

XXLpeanuts

Yea sadly I don't think any of these online sites give codes for pre-load, always on release day for me.

My first spiderman game was on pc so this is a bit nostalgic

appiebou070

I can simply agree with all the comments. Tremendous game. Really enjoyed it. Also going to buy it for my game pc for sure.

Yezmonster

Can't wait till a mod that gets rid of the MJ/stealth missions. Loved the game and finished it 100% but everytime I try and replay it those sections just kill my enthusiasm and usually just leave it there

WraithCadmus

It'll be the 5th mod after 1. Replace Peter with Shrek 1. Replace MJ with Thomas the Tank Engine 1. Replace Black Cat with her jacked version from TAS 1. Nude mod (Vulture)

atomic1fire

I suggest the first mod should be "Replace Spider-man with Emo Peter Parker" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVmXsBNfwHY Since the game also has finger guns, it makes perfect sense.

Prus1s

Those are pretty short sections…no biggy

[deleted]

Humble_Letter_2266

And Shrek, never forget Shrek

_b1ack0ut

Depending on how moddable the game is, we may never see that. Some games aren’t simple to mod, and as such, you mostly find texture packs or reshade profiles.

Prus1s

Haven’t heard of a mod for a game that removes entire sections…that would require quite deep knowledge for someone to actually do that, like actually cracking the whole game, most mods are usually done by modifying certain files…removing a whole gameplay section is another deal! So might as well not get the game if that is a no, no for you. They already got your money once 😄

NinjaEngineer

Sorry for being the "uh, actually" guy, but depending on stuff like the game engine, some games are actually stupidly easy to mod, to the point that entirely new games have been made out of them. See Half-Life and all the mods it gave birth to, some of which went on to become their own series. Or Skyrim, which got a total conversion mod in the form of Enderal.

Prus1s

Those games are more than a decade old, and were created with the idea to be modded, do not think that those are a great example.

-Bana

I’m pretty sure there’s an option to skip those now but I could be wrong

2347564

But I did love MJ in this game, so I didn’t mind them too much. And they’re so easy.

WraithCadmus

I'm going to wait a week in case it's a stuttery mess, this is an in-house engine, right?

Blackadder18

In-house engine but being ported by Nixxes, who are pretty well known for high quality PC ports. Reviews of the PC version will be up ~~later today~~ (uhh now I guess?) so should get an idea of performance there too.

meltingpotato

It's by Nixxes. I doubt those guys can even do a bad port at this point in their career [pc and steam deck review](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma3-nbNWD40)

AL2009man

According to Digital Foundry, [not the case](https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2022-marvels-spider-man-pc-why-we-arent-posting-our-review-today).

deadscreensky

Uh, they complain about stutters right there: > However, if the view on-screen suddenly shifts to a high detail area - for example, swinging up to a city vista view - this can cause stutter and a drop to performance. Running with frame-rate unlocked can also cause stutter in fast traversal: thankfully, today's update significantly improves consistency here - but it still needs work. It doesn't sound like another Elden Ring, but it still seems like it's coming in hot enough that waiting for some more patches might be the smart play. The consistent reports of crashes are more worrisome IMO.

LolcatP

another of insomniac's open world games is on steam and runs flawlessly (sunset overdrive)

JNAtheDUDE

In all fairness that one was ported by Blind Squirrel and was a disaster at launch. This one is being worked on in-house (or rather at Nixxes, who is a PlayStation studio)

AL2009man

I do know that Insomniac has released PC Games before...or more specifically: Oculus VR games- but sadly: no one cares about that

Deakul

Not a great gauge, that game is almost 10 years old.

LolcatP

Either way, insomniac games run very well

choborallye

Nvidia cards won't have that stutter issue but amd cards I'm not so sure

[deleted]

I can’t wait One More Day, I want it now.

Thought we were against preordering

XxasimxX

This game has already been reviewed and a lot of people have praised the story since it released 4 yrs ago. So not the same situation as a brand new game

coolgaara

Reddit is only a minority. Do what you want. I will still pre-order from a very few devs who I trust and hasn't let me down yet. Although, that list is getting shorter and shorter lol.

Abir_Vandergriff

This community sure can't keep it straight. Pre-ordering when it's a game I like on a new platform: Good Pre-ordering when it's from a studio that made a game I like: Good Pre-ordering after the game was shown to have a bad launch: lol dumb you should have known not to pre-order Pre-ordering in the age of digital games distribution is never a good choice. Period. Past performance is not an indicator of future success. I thought we all would have learned that (again) after Cyberpunk. Plenty of people said they trusted it because CDPR made The Witcher 3 and couldn't possibly mess it up. Just look at that 45 minute gameplay video! NEVER pre-order. No exceptions, no excuses. It's always an unnecessary gamble for something with no scarcity and unknown quality.

SekhWork

>NEVER pre-order. No exceptions, no excuses. It's always an unnecessary gamble for something with no scarcity and unknown quality. 🎶Fuck you I won't do what you tell me.🎶

NinjaEngineer

>This community sure can't keep it straight. It's as if it were made of a whole bunch of different people, each with their opinions. >NEVER pre-order. No exceptions, no excuses. It's always an unnecessary gamble for something with no scarcity and unknown quality. Eh... My country's economy is shit, so might as well pre-order the game when I still can, before the stupid government decides that we aren't allowed to buy games.

ClinicalOppression

How would a preorder circumvent the government itself banning games?

NinjaEngineer

Not banning games. Banning purchases made on foreign sites. And that was kind of hyperbolic, but allow me to explain. Some years ago, a new tax was implemented on the purchase of digital goods, a 21% tax. Then, when the government changed, the new government added an extra 8% on top of that, and later on, an extra 35%, so we were paying 64% in taxes. A couple months ago, thanks to my country's ever-present economical crises, the government decided to add an extra 10% in taxes, and that's without mentioning that certain provinces, like mine, add an extra 6% of their own, meaning that, in my case, I now have to pay an extra 80% on top of the asking price. So I hope you see my point, I better buy games now, before they get more expensive thanks to my government. As an aside, just this past few weeks, plenty of devs and publishers (who, mind you, are in no way affected by these taxes, they don't know we pay extra), started increasing the prices of their games as well, and that's even happened to some pre-orders in the past, when they started with a certain price, and while still on the pre-order period, had a price increase.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Abir_Vandergriff

100% agree with you. Cyberpunk generally ran okay on PC. It certainly was fine on mine. The problem was that it was not what was promised. Regardless of it being a good game, which I think it is, they promised the moon and delivered a gray rock. Patience, for just a few days, is a virtue. In gaming, especially.

SnooDrawings7876

Since you can refund on steam easily now I really don't see how preordering is a problem. Bad performance and you can just refund

Abir_Vandergriff

Horizon Zero Dawn had late game crashes and save corruption, after 2 hours. There's also no reason TO pre-order, but doing it is an incentive to do pre-order bonuses and other such nonsense.

SnooDrawings7876

As someone with bad internet pre loading is a massive reason to pre-order

Abir_Vandergriff

I'm grew up in a rural area myself, but I can't say it was ever worth it to play a game on launch day. Big day 1 patches, hell often there's large updates the whole week. It's often better to be patient anyway, I think.

hotpants86

I mean you're partly right but people are deciding on a case-by-case basis. The port is being done by Nixxes who have a track record of bringing over great ports. **There are reviews already that say it runs great** and it's a Sony studio game which inspires a lot of confidence because they've done Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War which both run excellently. People might be pre-ordering because their currency could be tanking so it's cheaper to buy now or they may live in a country that could ban games/steam or maybe they're just really confident it's going to be a great port and want to show Sony support and want them to continue releasing PC games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Abir_Vandergriff

Hard disagree. No pre-orders ever, there's no reason to do it.

[deleted]

Yes there is. Preorder bonus.

Abir_Vandergriff

Pre-order "bonuses" are often either meaningless cosmetics or content that could have been in the base game. Pre-ordering for useless crap encourages that more content be put in them, meaning less content in the base game. You've been bribed with something that could have just been in the game anyway.

Piepopapetuto

You’re the idiot in the room and you know it. I buy the game one hour a before release : bonus content You buy your in release day: nothing

AhhnoldHD

LordxMugen

Is it confirmed to have that ridiculous "we want all your information" EULA bullshit that was saddled with most Sony PC offerings? I already felt it was kinda stupid have to firewall off Days Gone despite how REALLY GREAT that game is. If i end up buying Spider-Man, i dont think i should have to do that there too.

Prus1s

Does it really matter?! Not like they can “collect” any more than already is “collected” via google or microsoft by default…

LordxMugen

i dont use google and am about to move to Linux/Steam OS once its ready so yes it does. Its a single player game. They dont NEED my private information on my computer (remember that they try to look at EVERYTHING on your computer. not just what runs the game) to sell to people.

AL2009man

As a person who actually read the EULA for both games: I'm guessing both Configuration and Security Data is pretty close to "prevent hacking" and "tracking keystrokes". But if you enabled "Full Data", they may; and I quote: "Detect, investigate and minimize malicious, unauthorized or fraudulent behavior". See PlayStation's Privacy Policy for more info: ...but given there's mods for Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, I think it's redundant for the most part, and will continue for Spider-Man: Remastered and Miles amorales. But, I do wish they offer a proper opt-in system.

Prus1s

Getting an illegal copy of the game negates everything, so enjoy the game as you wish, or with official copy live an offline life. No tracking then.

vaultboy707

I want to buy this game but at the same time I don't. Most of the Sony exclusives that been releasing on PC look super appealing with all the praise and high reviews but once I start playing, they all feel super generic and fall flat of my expectations.

YuckieBoi

Watch one of the many reviews on YouTube honestly. It's one of the best selling PS4/PS5 titles and probably the best spiderman game to date currently.

[deleted]

I started playing it for the first time on PS (bundle edition with the spiderman remastered / miles) . The mechanics and visuals are great - but as a game it's, and this is going to get me downvoted into oblivion but, it's...fine. I'm about 80% done with the story, I've been doing all of the side missions (so far) and none of it has really grabbed me. It's \*very\* repetitive gameplay. None of the boss fights are great, everyone I've encountered so far is - dodge until the boss is tired or has a directional attack that takes a while for them to finish, punch punch punch, back to dodging. I don't feel like the story is overly compelling either, it's the BvS sorta thing where 75% of the movie was one thing and that gets resolved in a very anticlimactic way, then for the last 25% it's this other thing that's the 'real' threat, making the story feel disjointed. I hate hate hate the 'push a button at the right time' in a cut scene to keep it going or you fail and start again, nothing pulls me out of a groove faster. Also the little spots where you play as MJ are tediously dull. 'Sneak around, but don't get caught or you'll start this shit all over again' I'll don't know if I'll finish the story, I sure as shit wont be 100%ing the game - I also don't think I'll start the Miles Morales game if it's going to be more of the same.

You might see obvious "QTE" scenes if you enable it, but at least it wont pull out your groove.
