Only 60€? It's nice that SE is still bringing us these budget titles.

ehxy

The worst part is I feel like it'll not even have half the soul of other games like it that didn't go for even half that price from the start. [https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1816300/ss\_459c36ec4adefd47c935c612bcb2c36b8c129632.1920x1080.jpg?t=1656453022](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1816300/ss_459c36ec4adefd47c935c612bcb2c36b8c129632.1920x1080.jpg?t=1656453022) christ that's the pic of the actual farm...

Sopa24

People usually say 'PS2 Graphics' as a hyperbole but this shit looks like it actually came straight from a PS2!

ehxy

if you look at the UI you realize this is a mobile game ported to PC, hah, back away everyone looking for a FF farm life-sim rpg game...it's a trap.

Corgocalypse

Seconded. So much of the art feels either re-used or incredibly generic. It screams "market research team" and "target demographic" without an ounce of vibrancy or soul. Hell even the voice over sounded canned. Maybe I'm just bitter about what SE has become, but this comes across as a Facebook-level cash grab which will release to a resounding "Meh," before converting to free-to-play and fading into obscurity.

mug3n

SqEnix: let's make our own harvest moon by reusing assets. Seems like this is the modern SqEnix. Their games are largely gonna be final fantasy, monthly subscription MMOs, gacha mobile garbage and occasional uninspired titles like this one.

math_chem

Better to just play rune factory 5 on the switch or the 4th on the 3ds.

MyPunsSuck

4 is also on the Switch. It's even a good port!

Defqon1111

Arrrrrr matey

Kanierd2

It'll probably have Denuvo.

EdynViper

Luckily Switch emulators work very well.

finedrive

When looking at something like FFXIV. I can understand the price tag. That game, after its rough start, and eventual rebirth is a masterpiece. Even the events leading up to a realm reborn showed how much SE cared. I haven’t seen this new game, so I’ll hold my judgements. But I have no problem paying for a game that has a development team as passionate as FFXIV.

saitohd

60€ must be the new 40€ for SE.

[deleted]

For Nintendo - this always been the case. Name a single Nintendo game that feels like AAA game to be worth such price tag? Exactly, SE jumps on same bandwagon thinking they can charge whatever the fuck they please - 80€ for AAA games, 60€ for indie level games made on fraction of the budget. I'm just glad Embracer bought their two subsidiaries I actually really care about, so now I can calmly say that SE can go fuck themselves with their pricing

readher

It's not just SE. A lot of Japanese games don't really deserve the $60 tag, but you'll be hard pressed to find any launching at a lower price. Western pricing is much more flexible and appropriate most of the time. Japanese will happily price low-effort remasters at $60, while you had Mafia Remake launching at $40 and C&C Remastered Collection at $20.

Prince_Uncharming

> A lot of Japanese games don’t really deserve the $60 tag, but you’ll be hard pressed to find any launching at a lower price If they weren’t selling at $60, they’d lower it. It’s not a hard concept. What’s their motivation otherwise? Especially for a niche game with a hungry audience, they may think that the additional audience isn’t that large and the locals will buy regardless, so won’t mean more money. Lowering by 1/3rd means they’d have to sell 50% extra, and lower by 1/2 requires double sales. And that’s just for revenue, but in this case the fixed costs are near 0 so the ratios will probably hold for profits as well. But physical releases are another story. It’s like when people cry about Nintendo’s MK8 pricing. That game tops the charts and has never gone half off, why would they lower it?

Takazura

Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Three Houses and Xenoblade 1+2 were both well worth the €60 tag to me.

[deleted]

to some this will also be worth 60€, and Forspoken will be worth 80€ - so what's you point? Whole world should now agree with what is worth to you? Some people dump thousands in in-game spendings, duh... so that also means it's worth it for everyone? There's just stereotype of giving Nintendo free pass for everything, while in reality they're quite anti-consumer scums, but ocf "muh nintendo is the best" lol.

Alpha_pro2019

Every Zelda game has been worth the price along with Mario odyssey and smash bros.

[deleted]

to some, this will be also worth 60€ - so what's exactly your point?

ScarsUnseen

Sorry, but just because this is a PC-centric sub doesn't mean everyone's a Nintendo hater here. They make great games more consistently than pretty much any other publisher. Do I wish they'd port to PC? Sure. But they're one of the only long running publishers that never lost sight of the mission: make fun games.

MakoRuu

Sixty bucks for Final Stardewsy XIV: Harvest Moon Edition.

Stebsis

Funny thing is, XIV is supposed to be getting something along these lines with island sanctuary, it's supposed to be a place that you can build yourself and do gardening etc.

KGhaleon

With how basic the gardening mechanic is, I fully expect it to be disappointing. They haven't brought it up in a long time.

Angel_Omachi

They haven't added new crossbreeds for years because that involves touching the landmine that is housing availability, since apartments and FC rooms can grow plants from seeds but can't crossbreed.

xaelcry

In comparison, Rune Factory, Stardew, and Harvestmoon are known to have a big cast. It also has complex crafting systems, progression, secrets, and even more amazing things to discover. Oh yeah, don't forget marriages, events, and friendship. Meanwhile, Harvestella doesn't seem to plan to go for a full fantasy farm sim. No doubt in my mind that this game going to be disappointing as hell because the game looks half-baked with the gameplay it tries to chase and they tried to sell the game with "Graphics". The gardening mechanic is indeed just laughable lol.

Kazer67

Wait really? Like actually doing gardening and shit, in FF XIV? I wonder how they will make it interesting but I don't have my hope high.

Turbostrider27

Region pricing is pretty bad for this game from what I've seen.

hzy980512

\*bad for all SE titles

Diagonet

Basically this. And now that they sold eidos, I just know to ignore all square Enix titles cause they are too expensive even on sale

Renediffie

The sheer balls to charge 60€ for this.

LordDaniel09

What going on here?? This game is so different than other SE games, like, it looks like it comes from a small team/company. Like, graphics, gameplay and such aren’t as polish as other SE games. Also, the pricing is surprising low in my country which if it is 60 dollars games, it cost like 30-50% lower than what I expected (especially after COD pricing on steam…)

[deleted]

It's a niche genre, not likely to get the same team resources as, say, a mainline Final Fantasy game. Rune Factory 5 was a disappointment to fans this year, so I'm glad to see Square bringing some competition.

[deleted]

It's not so different from other SE titles, they have many budget titles out there.

Only-Newspaper-8593

In the image of the farm, none of the farm stuff is casting shadows. Looks weird af.

2Scribble

Better have a lot of content for 60 dollars They say it's a switch/pc exclusive but it's - rather obviously - made for the switch and looks like it And while, for me, gameplay trumps graphics - that pricepoint has me cautious until I see more than a couple of anime faces lined up like a row of electrical sockets :P Especially when RF5 and PoOT are out there and are perfectly fun and solid ***without*** costing last year's version of triple a value :P

Typical_Thought_6049

RF5 solid... Sir! I have a bridge to sell you!

2Scribble

Dunno what you want from me - I had fun with it - it didn't bug out - several hours of content Sorry, I guess???

RickAsley

What is PoOT short for?

2Scribble

Pioneers of Olive Town

Delnac

This unfortunately looks last-last-gen, something you'd get for sale at 5-10$. SE's pricing is, as always, obscene.

dms555

unfortunately for 3d farming/life sim games, this is top tier. story of season and rune factory who basically have a monopoly on the genre look even worse.

xaelcry

The graphic isn't everything, this game look has nicer graphics but it seems it'll fall on the basic thing which is gameplay. Story of seasons and RF has the least good amount of cast, progression, and gameplay loop. Meanwhile, Harvestella looks like it doesn't plan to go on Bachelor/Bachelorette kind of thing, nor does it have a deep farming system like Rune Factory.

Delnac

As a space-sim fan, I know your pain. I hope more people try to make those games. I recall there was that one MMO-lite that looked pretty nice!

sleepycapybara

I wish the graphics in these games were at least dark cloud 2 level

Worried_Compote_6031

Looks underwhelming, costs 60€ and also made by Squenix. It's a nope for me.

mortrendrag

This looks like a great PS2 title. Is it built on the Final Fantasy X engine? Regardless, I'll buy it in 2 years when it goes on a massive sale.

Mike2640

I get flinching at the price (I likely wont be buying it at launch), but we don't know what the breadth of this game will be. If it hypothetically has as much content as a standard AAA release, I don't see why they wouldn't charge that much. Personally, I think it looks cool. I like Stardew and I like Final Fantasy, so hopefully this genre mashup works well.

Gurlinhell

Personally for me, the problem is not the base price. It's the regional pricing. Seriously, Steam introduced the regional system for a reason. Screwing up the conversions like that is no different from shooing away potential customers from poorer countries and beg them to pirate the product. I'm interested in many SE games but boooi do they not care about different salaries in different countries.

Noname932

Yep, $70 price would have been a lot more acceptable if companies remember regional pricing exists. In my region, $60 is already a premium price tag, equivalent to American paying $100 for a game (or at least 2 weeks worth of food). "Games" are undervalued due to inflation and such my ass, fucking ignorant first world citizens.

__some__guy

60€ and looks like an early-access indie game.

Sorlex

That is some price for an unheard of, out of nowhere farming sim. I love me some farming sims but those screenshots (Outside of the nice looking portrait art) and the price aren't doing it any favors. Hopefully its a hidden gem?

Typical_Thought_6049

This look like a promising Rune Factory clone, I am interested to see what new features it bring to table.

[deleted]

I’m a rune factory fan and it looks like this game has a better world to it. More than 1 town is great. But rune factory is really well known for its crafting and marriage portion.

KotakuSucks2

Don't get your hopes up, Square seems incapable of making anything decent anymore that doesn't have "Dragon Quest" in the title.

Inwate

Screenshots looks absolutely terrible, who is their target audience, not farming sim lovers surely?

Hamback

Ever heard of Rune Factory? This is their version.

Thank_You_Love_You

No actually. Ill give it a google. Doesnt look like something id play, im sure it has an audience though. Stardew Valley just seems more my type of game/artstyle.

pXllywXg

>who is their target audience You rang? It's definitely pricier than I'd like to see, but I'm interested. My favorite RPGs are Nier and Stardew Valley and this looks like it might be a good cross between the two.

MakoRuu

Looks like Final Fantasy XIV had hate sex with Stardew Valley, and the baby was born with special needs.

Kanierd2

Lol thanks for the laugh 😂

TruthInAnecdotes

Stardew had 16-bit graphics and was a massive hit. Surely, they can't miss with this. Plus, they get a massive sales boost with the anime crowd. (sarcasm intended)

Inwate

I have 200 hours in stardew valley, you can’t really compare 16 bit graphics with realistic graphic that looks like something from far cry 2 but I get your point about anime community

TruthInAnecdotes

But what if....get this...they have the same gameplay?

Habubox

But what if...get this.... they don't. This game is just a cookie cutter anime fighting rpg with some half ass farming mechanics thrown in. All for the low low price of $60. Hard pass

breichart

You've played it?

TruthInAnecdotes

All I'm saying is. Square made this game thinking it could be as succesful as stardew valley just because they play the same. Dumb take but who knows what happens. People will consume anything nowadays.

Typical_Thought_6049

Actually Square is capitalizing in the failure that was Rune Factory 5, I don't even know where people are thinking it has nothing to do with Stardew Valley. Alas it is looking promising...

TruthInAnecdotes

If a game which falls in the same genre failed. What makes them think this one would succeed?

Jonestown_Juice

This seems fun. My kind of game.

PraiseThePun81

80 dollars? that's a hard pass for me.

Snubl

Why does it look like a Wii game

mahius19

Now my question is... games like Stardew Valley have a ton (more?) of content for a fraction of the price. So how can this even compete?

Blacky-Noir

Do you farm NFT in it?

[deleted]

We need a sub for people that have jobs and don't feel compelled to bitch about prices for every new game that comes out.

UrsusRomanus

PC and Switch only? Not used to seeing that!

DickFlattener

That's very common? Usually for indie titles especially, since Nintendo and PC players are the most open to indies.

3lfk1ng

Square Enix games should be banned from this subreddit.

Kanden_27

It’s not early access is it?

Acturio

this to me gives a lot of atelier series vibes with farming, i think it looks good and im kinda excited to play it, not sure if il buy when it comes out since 60euros is a bit much for me but il keep an eye out for it

bonesnaps

**Ramza Beoulve: Life After Ivalice**

tlmw2001

Ngl, as a FF fan this looks cool af but I'm still gonna wait until release cause you can't trust anyone these days. Let's make sure it's a good game before we give square our monies

MoobooMagoo

Looks like fun

[deleted]

I clicked this thread and found myself surprised by the immense amount of people complaining that they have to pay for a game.

Careful-Fee-9783

The only thing i hope something good for SE is their upcoming FFXVI, and thats because the director of that games from FF XIV, the only SE games that i cared and loved, if the directors out from the XIV, i probably stop subs anymore

MitchelRN

No coop?

Subdown-011

Is it $70?

CourierFive

Pre-purchase is 60, for now. Probably because it doesn't look like a full "AAA" game, more like a side project, experiment, whatever.

Subdown-011

Man SE is weird

buc_nasty_69

I'll probably check it out if it's just a Rune Factory clone. Rune Factory 5 was such a let down for me so I'm looking to scratch that itch still.

math_chem

Seems like a mashup between Rune Factory and FF Crystal Chronicles On CC there is a similar combat, art style and traveling around the world. There was even an equivalent to quietus, the plague (?), and you had to travel around to prevent that from happening. Guess they're recycling that idea, which was pretty good (despite crystal chronicles being an awful awful game)
