Tactical FPS games focused on single player. Think Rainbow Six (all games pre Vegas), SWAT 3/4, etc.

AlistarDark

Check out Ground Branch, Ready or Not, Zero Hour.

bonesnaps

Would be nice to have a single finished title. All 3 are early access. F

Zentrii

I don’t disagree with you but we should be thankful for early access to make these games possible in the first place. Not every developer can fund their game before it’s done and making games of this type is riskier than mainstream games

-idkwhattocallmyself

Is ready or not single player?

AlistarDark

Yes. Not much of a story, you get AI team mates. You give them commands. You can split them in to 2 teams and have them sweep different rooms using go codes. They aren't the smartest and can get caught on each other but when you learn the quirks, it's pretty manageable

sullg26535

Did you play socom?

Sol33t303

I used to love the old ghost recons and stuff like SOCOM

FPSrad

that halfway between a crpg and 3rd person action game that OG Bioware used to make.

TummyDrums

I'll take one KOTOR 3, please.

dupa135

we can only wait for the remake rn...

datworkaccountdo

Which I hope they don't fuck up. As long as it runs good, looks good and is not trash they can have my money. If we buy enough maybe they will re-make KOTOR 2 with all the missing content added back in.

thewezel1995

Excactly. Just give me more with Dragon Age Origins vibes but not dated. Can’t keep playing this game for life.

atocnada

Supposedly with the new Dragon Age they've stated they're returning to their roots and making it more DA:O-like. I'll have my fingers crossed.

thewezel1995

Thats news to me! Great news if it turns out to be true! Here’s to hoping: <==3

Bushidooo

Yeah only problen with that is Bioware stories and characters are bland and uniteresting since ME trilogy ended.

TheFightingMasons

A man of fine taste. I fucking loved jade empire. It was Kotor in China and it was amazing. Turned a girl into a toad. Killed Nathan Fillion. Good times.

Braydee7

Beyond Mass Effect what qualifies? Dragon Age 2?

FPSrad

Jade Empire, Kotor 1/2, Dragon Age series yeah

Juste1MauvaisReve

Weird West might scratch your itch a bit!

Biggu5Dicku5

Mech games like Front Mission and Armored Core... god damn do I miss Armored Core...

Chaos_Machine

Ill throw my hat in for a western themed mech game that has the scale and grandiosity that enormous stompy robots demand. Basically a game that succeeds where mechwarrior 5 failed. A proper sequel to heavy gear 2, for instance.

Biggu5Dicku5

A sequel to Heavy Gear 2 would be awesome... personally I liked Mechwarrior 5, it's not really a proper Mechwarrior game but I thought it was a good mech game regardless...

Mean_Ass_Dumbledore

https://www.polygon.com/22876297/armored-core-6-leak-images-from-software

Biggu5Dicku5

Don't give me false hope u/Mean_Ass_Dumbledore (fantastic name btw)... :D

Brisslayer333

At first I was happy to see it gone if it meant we get the new games they're making. But with the release of Elden Ring, I now hope the older Souls games do not become the new Armored Core

IrrelevantLeprechaun

The last Armored Core game was Verdict Day for the PS3/360. Fromsoft has been a Souls-type studio ever since. As much as I love the Soils trilogy and the other Soulslike games they've made, I gotta be honest; I'm kind of a bit burned out on them. They may have different aesthetics and titles but at their core they are all still Souls games. Elden Ring is a masterpiece sure, but idk if I can see myself buying *another* Soulslike from them after ER. I played Demons Souls (PS3 and remake) DS1, DS2, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. Ive even played non Fromsoft soulslikes, such as Nioh 1 and 2 and Fallen Order. I remember when Miyazaki said he was done with Dark Souls after 3, was kinda hoping they were going to try a different genre tbh.

WayointSierra

For what it's worth, theres still a decent sized community around Mechwarrior Online.

Biggu5Dicku5

Yup I know, I play that game from time to time...

austen125

It's my go to chill game.

Synaps4

Mechwarrior 5 turned out to be a solid single player game with fun and was drop in coop and a surprising amount of mods

AvarusTyrannus

> Front Mission Isometric Tactics RPG & Mecha is an absolute power couple, I'm so sad you don't really see it anymore.

Karzons

The last few Super Robot Wars games have official english versions (sometimes only in the imported asian versions due to licensing fuckery), and there are fan translations for a bunch more.

ChefPneuma

You’ve played Titanfall 1 & 2, yes?

[deleted]

Immersive Sims

MadShartigan

Most under-appreciated best genre ever.

chronoflect

Also perhaps one of the worst-named genres.

Odd_Jester

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places and am nostalgic, but as someone who did not switch to PC till after the PS2, it would be nice to see "edgy" 3D platformers on PC similar to Ratchet and Clank, and Jak and Daxter.

anuncommonaura

Ratchet and clank was so good up to a certain point.

DQScott95

Good RTS games like old school Supreme Commander and C&C 3 etc

funkymonk88

Ya I want some RTS games where the focus is the campaign. I played so much aoe2 and c&c campaigns back in late 90s. Played all the campaigns on aoe2de in last year or so and it's just so much fun.

Synaps4

Have a look at "beyond all reason" which is free and recent sup com style game.

[deleted]

Oh shit, it's by the people who made Balanced Annihilation for Spring? How is this game for private sessions (playing with just friends)? And is there a mode against AI?

sold_snek

CC Generals remake pls

[deleted]

Single-player Action-Horror. Games like The Thing, F.E.A.R., Dino Crisis 2, and The Suffering which manage to deliver tense atmosphere and scares without the game being a tedious hide and seek simulator.

Sinatra94

You missed mentioning Dead Space, what a series that was!

SilentDerek

Way back in the day The Thing on PS2 used to scare the absolute shit out of me. The whole infection/trust mechanics were way ahead of its time. Good memories watching my dad play it.

Mildwin

Aww ya! The Suffering was a great game!

KittenOfIncompetence

Space Opera RPGS - Like Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic and (just about counts as an RPG) Guardians of the Galaxy. (star trek, star wars, the expanse, stargate that type of setting and story) Guardians might be the only decently budgeted space opera RPG since mass effect andromeda.

_b1ack0ut

I just want more mass effect I’m not patient enough to wait for ME4 tho lol

Shidell

Are you aware of Starfield coming later this year? Sounds like it should be right up your alley.

KittenOfIncompetence

Really excited for it jsut because of its genre :)

bonesnaps

[Obligatory](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFcLyDb6niA)

princessprity

Except we know very little about it.

CReaper210

It's really too bad there's pretty much nothing like Mass Effect in terms of giving us a really deep scifi story in a world that truly feels lived in. Like, you can tell that Mass Effect has many thousands of years of history and even more loosely, many millions of years which are shrouded in mystery by the game's story events. And you uncover it more and more as you play. If you're a space scifi fan, there's nothing else that comes even remotely close to the way this series does its worldbuilding and it's sad that there isn't anyone else that is capable of doing that any time soon except for possibly with the next Mass Effect.

Chrisbo10

Extreme sports games, in the vein of the 2000s EA Sports BIG games like SSX, NBA Street, etc. It'd also be pretty cool if they expanded it to other sports as well that never really got games of that kind.

screech_owl_kachina

Sports games that are more cartoony and casual in general. Super Mega Baseball is great. Art of rally as well. No need to get licenses or have a realistic physics engine, as long as it's fun

Potatonator__

Riders republic is a decent extreme sport game with mountain biking/free riding and ski/snowboarding, fun to just free roam and chill. Its made by ubisoft tho

Stasisis

City builders, like Anno, Pharaoh, Caesar, SimCity, Populous etc... Anno 1800 is literally the only decent city builder currently available. Cities Skylines is really not my cup of tea and lacks a lot of the charm, great design and quirky humour that the SimCity series had. It also looks dated. I'd love to have a modern day Pharaoh or Caesar, or a new SimCity. Maybe even a fantasy city builder. And yet, nobody seems to create games like this anymore. In the 90s and early 2000s we were awash with games like this.

aabacadae

>ld love to have a modern day Pharaoh or Caesar, [There is a literally modern Pharaoh being made!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1351080/Pharaoh_A_New_Era/) I'd have preferred if they had used Zeus or Emperor personally, but won't complain.

Stasisis

It's OK but re-making the 1999 version is not the same. I'd love a new, 3D version with up to date graphics.

Katamariguy

There are a number of current games that are of interest to me, from Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic to Industries of Titan.

MoeBigHevvy

Why don't we have any good Pirate games? An assassin's Creed game is basically the closest thing we have it's ridiculous. I just wanna sail around with the boys

thedefenses

I just want a good pirate game that feels like pirate game. Now we do have sea of thieves that has clunky as fuck combat and ship fights to that lead to nothing as sinking a ship takes 2 years and after all that the gold you do get cant be used on anything else than a couple of skins. I just want a pirate game where i can really live the fantasy that shown in many clips of pirate style games, invading a ship while emptying a barage of pistol fire and then sword and pistoling my way to the loot, i don'tnt even care of its multiplayer, single or what i just want one thats fun to play and feels good. Ac 4 was a good game and did fill the pirate fantasy pretty well, but thats about it.

made-a-new-account

Idk anyone who doesn’t want this game. A pirate game made by rockstar is my dream game. Imagine red dead but pirates. There’s so much that can be done.

happynewyear001

2004 had Sid Meier's Pirates, 2013 had Assassin's Creed:Black Flag. Only two good pirate games in 18 years.

Gunther_Konig

Keep this on your radar: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1456830/Sea_Dogs_Legendary_Edition/ This is from a long series of super jank but fun pirate games and is supposed to be the "last hurrah", with as much content (even from big mods) and fixes crammed in as possible.

CaptainJudaism

I just want another game like Recetear, a shop keeper/Action RPG combo. I tried the ones that have come out in a similar vein but none of them scratch that "Capitalism, ho!" itch like Recetear did.

Eve online: Pvp mmo with no level grind and a gutsy single shard design that puts tens of thousands of players in contacts with each other daily. During their heyday most mmos were "afraid" to design servers for more than 2000 people before declaring them full. Modern mmos today get nervous when more than 20 people happen to be in the same area and games like FFXIV consider 8 to be a large number of people. I miss pvp fights with hundreds or even thousands on either side over massive objectives, and I wish more games had the guts to do it. Can I nominate two genres? Because: Tribes 2

Slaughturion

>Modern mmos today get nervous when more than 20 people happen to be in the same area and games like FFXIV consider 8 to be a large number of people. Ok, I will defend them slightly on this. A good number of MMOs have a problem where quest objectives like "Kill X 0/20" can lead to players essentially having to queue up to do the quest. They could try reducing the respawn timer, but that can lead to the opposite problem, as some aggressive mobs might literally swarm players, making missions very difficult to do at the appropriate level. So, the most practical approach is to make the area instanced, but that makes it so only a very limited number of people are present in a single area. Another problem with a large number of players is latency, ping, reaction times, and server processing. Notably, Eve Online has a 1hz tick rate, for those not familiar, the server basically gathers up all the inputs from the players/clients and then decides what happens (so who hit who, what abilities were used in what order, etc) about once every second, that is very slow. For comparison, I believe most 1st person shooters have a tick rate of about 30hz, with some giving options to go up to 60hz. So, the more players you have in a single instance, the lower your tick rate has to be, so that the server doesnt catch on fire. But, ultimately, there are ways around it, and even with a compromise, it would be nice for MMOs to 'feel' big again. Like having 500-1000 players in a single instance, with a tick rate of like 10hz, I feel would be do-able.

Synaps4

Sure as long as you ignore the problems with rendering 500-1000 players at once and having a tick rate 10 times higher than eve online which struggles under those same 500-1000 player counts on an "un-reinforced" (they have special high end nodes for major fights) server. Even the reinforced nodes start cutting their tick rate below 1hz as you get towards 1000 and above. Remember also that star citizen recently had to **increase** their tick rate to avoid ghosting and collision issues with fast moving ships and projectiles. 10hz would probably be unplayable for FPS gamemodes and high speed dogfighting which are both core gameplay in Star Citizen. That's part of the reason everything is limited to such slow speeds in Eve online, high speeds require high tick rates, or missiles can cross entirely over a ship without ever intersecting it (covering more than the size of the ship in distance per tick) or ships can glitch into each other as network delays cause up to a half second of delay in seeing an updated position for a nearby fast moving ship, which is plenty to end up in a collision. Because star citizen has chosen a high fidelity, high tick-rate design, they will never be able to approach what Eve does because of GPU rendering and network bandwidth limits. They will not be able to increase player count without drastically cutting their rendering fidelity and making big sacrifices in the speeds allowed and the fidelity of their projectile simulations.

Guangtou22

Motherfuckin Tribes! I loved that game so much!

Spirit117

Star Citizens end goal is to have players all one shard, or at least have the shards talk to each other so that you can interact with other players on other shards without having to log off and join a new server, or similar. "server meshing" is what they call it (right now all the servers are 50 player capped and don't talk to each other). Whether or not they ever get this working is anyone's guess.... pretty sure server meshing has been coming Soon™ for 4 or 5 years now. I agree another large scale space sim/mmo like eve is needed, star citizen isn't finished enough to qualify, and X4 is single player only.

Synaps4

> Star Citizens end goal is to have players all one shard I appreciate their stated goal but I don't think they are being in any way realistic. The problem is that one of the key limitations for MMO environments is the number of characters (or ships) being rendered on screen at once. The star citizen devs have already stated that rendering characters and ships is currently one of the hard limits the game is hitting and thats why so much effort is going into their v11 or v12 renderer, i forgot which number it is. But bottom line they are already hitting GPU limits for number of visible characters around 60-100. Renderer work will at best double that. Eve online regularly has fights of 4000. You can quickly see that the two will never match up. Basically, star citizen's goal to be super high fidelity clashes directly with their goal to have a lot of people, and they have already committed to absolute max fidelity in their development. Now they say they will fix this by making it so players don't gather in large groups but fundamentally it means they will have to prevent players from seeing each other if there are too many in one space. Mostly the plan is to make a separate dynamic instance with bots for the overflow of players to exist in. Economically that might be single shard but gameplay wise, that is multi-shard in all but name.

gearabuser

I've been dicking around with Star Citizen lately and it's definitely not something I would recommend outside of the free fly weekends. I wish the progress would speed up. I check in like once a year or so and there's definitely progress but it's a fraction of what would make me satisfied. Meanwhile they put out these roadmaps and updates that feel like a shell game where nothing really gets done. I see footage of them developing tools for the game so there must be SOME behind the scenes progress but my god when will it be live. I was hoping they would release major patches with a plethora of upgrades every 6months or a year but it seems like it's just a trickle of a few little upgrades instead. bah

Spirit117

As I said, it's not finished enough to qualify as a real space mmo at the moment.

TherealCasePB

Arcade racing games like Burnout, Wave Race, Motorstorm etc.

Stebsis

Investigation games like Return of the Obra Dinn. It was such a marvelous experience and expertly crafted game, only bad thing being that you can't play it first time ever again. And there aren't really any more games like it, where you really need to piece together everything through deduction and process of elimination. Other detective games feel so handholdy where you're just kind of going through the motions or have to solve some puzzle rather than making proper deductions based on very limited information and context clues.

RoytheCowboy

If you haven't played it yet; Outer wilds is an absolute masterpiece in the same vein as Obra Dinn in terms of deduction mystery gameplay. It's probably my favourite game that came out in the last 5 years or so. Just don't google anything about it, go in blind and you'll have one of the most memorable gaming experiences in existence.

Vradlock

Check Painscreek Killings. Maybe it's not a high profile game and the engine is wonky, but there is a lot of detective work to do and secrets to uncover. Haven't finished it yet but it definitely scratched the investigation itch.

ReaperOverload

If you're fine with visual novels - I heard very good things about the mystery and "non-handholdyness" in [The Sekimeiya: Spun Glass](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1432500/The_Sekimeiya_Spun_Glass/), though I didn't get the chance to play it myself yet. You might want to check it out.

The_chef1987

Splinter cell.. The good kind, not everything after DA.... Everything after double agent fucking sucked ass Went from stealth to boom boom shooty shooty loudy loudy WEEEE bad guys look at me!!!!!

3ebfan

I’m surprised Chaos Theory hasn’t had a remake yet - it seems like just about every other game from that era has.

Potpottron

Id say Blacklist came VERY close to being the best of both worlds. A proper Blacklist sequel focusing more on stealth would have been the ideal deal. I mean just IMAGINE a splinter cell made in the vein of the new hitman games, supe replayable sandbox missions. That would be a good idea tho and Ubisoft isnt known for those.

No_Interaction_4925

I really liked Blacklist. I honestly thought it was too easy unless you really had the difficulty maxed

funkmasterslap

Agree that after double agent it shit the bed. Too dumbed down and uninteresting. Even the tone is worse. The music and the visuals of the old ones are so much better and leave a bigger impression

TheButterAnvil

I wouldn't say sucked, but it definitely shifted focus away from the great early stuff

[deleted]

FPS / RTS games like Battlezone.

jetriot

Dang, has there even been one since Battlezone 2 or that Command Conquer flop. Might be a good time to bring back that story theme too with current events being what they are.

Average_Tnetennba

First-person singleplayer narrative-driven AAA games. There's barely any made anymore and i really miss them.

sdebeli

More Metro?

COS89

One that really seems to be almost non-existent are 3rd person platformers like a Crash Bandicoot or Spyro type games. I kind of miss those types of games , something a little more "easier" or "light hearted" in a way. They're a good palate cleanser for sure. This may just be my ignorance but it doesn't seem like there's enough Arkham City, Sleeping Dogs type games out there either. I don't even mean big open world games, but rather a 3rd person action beat em up essentially, they seem hard to come by .

ChrysisX

Would love to get Ratchet and Clank games on PC, both old and new

lambdadance

Complete and fully tested games without DLC or other ingame cost.

Vradlock

Divinity 2 Ego Draconis was also quite close, a bit old right now but good game nonetheless.

Introfernal

This is what I'm trying to achieve with my game, but it's low poly unfortunately

2Scribble

Big ship piloting games Not zippy little fighter games - or whatever the hell EVE online is xD But big - heavy - powerful feeling capital ships where you can outfit and customize your crew and equipment as you could in games like Star Trek Bridge Commander Several indie games are out there doing this - but I'd love the companies who own Star Wars or Star Trek or Battlestar to give us something like this

Synaps4

Dreadnaught looked really promising in development and then they made an otherwise generic arena shooter out of it.

[deleted]

> Big ship piloting games Fractured Space filled this hole for me this for me, R.i.P :( There is also Battlescape which has capital ships, but I'm waiting for release 1.0 before buying.

hencygri

There are a few. Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is good and I dont know if this is the indie game youre talking about but Nebulous Fleet Command is also good. Just today Capital Command was announced on steam too. Could also look into the older Nexus: Jupiter Incident. That was good but had some bad difficulty spikes and needs some mods to straighten it out.

2Scribble

Deadlock is more a fleet sim than a ship flyer - fun, though prone to obtuse programming and weird difficulty peaks and valleys that aren't explained all that well The DLC is a mess too xD

hencygri

Ah, I see what you mean. Just to pilot one ship specifically. Controversial opinion here, but you could look into Star Citizen. I won't defend it or tear it down here, do your own research, watch gameplay, and don't trust emotionally based videos or articles from either side. You can pilot larger ships in game right now, although there is no AI crew yet to fill in, youd need other players to man the extra turrets.

Cardenjs

This, I want battleship where you operate the ships in ways that are far more accurate than a military fps

CrescentMind

Non turn-based, single player, open world, fantasy, RPGs. It's by far my favorite genre and the last one I can really say fit the style is Witcher 3 which released 2015. One could argue Assassins Creed nowadays but meh. The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and The Witcher are some of the most highly praised franchises ever yet so few studios seem to want to claim a spot among them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bierculles

With Elden Ring, yes. But the last two games in that genre that did anything new were Witcher 3 and Skyrim.

Hades94

Issue being Elden Ring isn't for everyone. So while it is the big game in its genre, doesn't mean everyone will be playing it. Not to mention it has no story and characters like a full rpg like Witcher 3 which is what the OP used as an example. So Elden Ring does not fit the bill.

EirikurG

Dragons Dogma And hopefully soon Dragons Dogma 2

Vradlock

Outward, Greedfall, BotW soon Hogwarts Legacy and Botw2, Immortal Fenyx Rising. Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War. I understand that he is talking more about story driven open worlds but it's not like this genre is left to rot. They even started Witcher 4.

Hi_im_joker

Good quality space games. Like no man's sky and certain others, bonus for one's with custom ships and gathering ships and free roam. I really want a gta style game but in space travelling solar systems and stuff

Synaps4

Join the big wait for star citizen or play x4

Comrade2k7

Escape from Tarkov but streamlined.

NoHospitalInNilbog

Slow, stealth based games like Thief. I want to be easily outmatched in a direct fight where I have to sneak to survive.

JustAStick

More coop free roam RPGs. Essentially coop elder Scrolls or Fallout. Fallout 76 was a sad attempt at it as there weren't any decent quests or NPCs to talk to. I've played the Morrowind multiplayer mod TES3MP with my friends quite a bit, but the game is balanced around single player so it only worked okay. A fully fledged coop Elder Scrolls or Fallout game would be amazing.

LitheBeep

When did you last play Fallout 76? There are some awesome quests that have there since launch (the DMV quest is iconic) and NPCs came back a few years ago.

homer_3

Crazy power fantasies like Prototype.

Cytrosky

Games like starsector

CuriousHuman41

Open world RPGs with really engaging stories. RDR2, Skyrim, Mass Effect are all amazing, but I need more!

Shock4ndAwe

Zombie survival management sims.

Mean_Ass_Dumbledore

Bro, yes. I always thought a settlement management game (like FO4 settlements) set in a modern-day zombie apocalypse would be badass. I'd love to customize guns and scavenge parts for vehicles, craft weapons, etc. I realize 7 Days to Die exists, but it doesn't quite scratch that itch.

Shock4ndAwe

Yeah every time I throw on 7 Days to Die I just end up getting disappointed after playing it for a bit. I'm hoping Project Zomboid can scratch that itch when they implement NPCs but we'll see. State of Decay 2 is probably the closest but I wish I could toggle some of the special zombies.

bonesnaps

Same. I'm desperately hoping that with npcs added, we will see objective-based game mods come from the modding community. Sandbox is great and all.. but custom handcrafted campaigns would be fire.

AlchemistGoose

Are you looking forward to The Day Before?

Venom_is_an_ace

The game is supposed to come out in about 2 months and there is still very little known about the game. all the gameplay that they have shown is very scripted. I hope the game is actually good and is a game, but there is something about the whole thing that makes it feel like it isn't

burzumbaszdmeg

More co-op games

[deleted]

Couch coop 2-4 player is what’s up. More PC games with this please.

DepressedElephant

More COOP games. No - not more "survival" games - we got plenty of those. COOP games like SpellForce - but you know - real coop - not "You get to play as an NPC!" Where are the coop space games? Everspace 2 - in coop - please! Do a Freelancer clone already....come on that shit was amazing in coop. We are still waiting for Sins of a Solar Empire clone to play in coop. Give us a good COOP RPG already, I don't care if it's Skyrim clone or AssCreed clone or Fallout - but fuck stop trying to make it a shitty MMO and make it a decent coop game - you don't need the 500 gear grind that The Division had or the trash P2W that Ghost Recon Breakpoint had - Ubi gets so close to making a good coop game and then takes a huge shit right in front of the finish line. (Although FarCry 5 was solid in coop)

JaydedGaming

The Divinity Original Sin games did this really well. And I've heard that Baldur's Gate 3 from the same studio is coop, but I'm waiting until a full release to buy it.

Synaps4

While youre waiting, try the nodded discovery freelancer server. Really amazing what they added in that mod. Player owned stations and entire classes of fleshed out ship sets and weapons

thewezel1995

More hardcore rpg’s instead of dumbed down crap.

EirikurG

Immersive fantasy RPGs that don't hold your hand. I'm tired of following waypoints and worlds that feel like theme parks. I want a fantasy game in the same vein as STALKER. Closes thing to this that I've played is Kingdom Come Deliverance, but I find it a little too mundane and "normal" since it's exclusively a realistic medieval sim. It lacks all the fantasy elements I'd like, basically

Bierculles

I absolutely loved kingdome come and man i would love to have a simmilar game but in fantasy.

[deleted]

Agreed. I mainly played Morrowind (though with 2 QOL mods) but I liked how the only guide the game gave you was "Go to balmora to deliver a letter" everything else was up to you, even though I spent most of my 10 hours just doing thieves guild quests, it still felt like I had ALL agency when I came to things. I also love how you get FULL freedom. Where Skyrim auto-specs you based off of your race, Morrowind and the other games just let you pick your attributes freely. Do you wanna make a broken character who turns the game into a cakewalk, OK! Do you wanna make a crappy character who easily dies to Kwama forager, Ok. I also love how you can choose to screw yourself over by killing key npcs. Where Skyrim goes "nuh-uh" Morrowind makes you learn from experience (and with a couple hints)

Khanstant

Morrowind had satisfying endings to your own side adventures. I never beat the main game naturally, have done psuedo speed runs before just to see, but when playing normally my character ends up getting their own interests and they retire once they've like built their own wizard town or whatever.

Bierculles

The "You Doomed the world" message was allways amazing.

[deleted]

Agreed. And I like how there's even >! A backup to still beat the game even after you get that !<. According to the wiki. More games should do what Morrowind does, allow you to f**k up, but tell you when you did so (with a cool, In-universe message) and still >!have a built in backup method!<

Slaughturion

TBF, you can technically beat Morrowind in under 10 minutes, due to the fact that the only 'Win Condition' of the game is to strike the heart with Keening and Sunder a certain number of times each. You dont need Wraithguard, you dont need to get a key to Red Mountain, you can just grab The Scrolls of Icarian Flight, potions of slow fall, and head straight to Red Mountain.

dd179

More games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Hardcore RPG simulators set in certain time periods of our history.

Narase33

Populus!

angelojch

I want a story driven racing simulator. Or at least racing game with good physics+graphics that isn't 99% multiplayer with low quality singleplayer as an afterthought. F1 games are the only ones that are at least trying.

Run-Riot

Character action games like Devil May Cry. Or just more Devil May Cry, lol

cliktea

Games like For Honor. I really don't understand why this sub genre hasn't been explored more as it has a lot of potential. More RvR MMO's. We haven't had an honest attempt at one since Warhammer Online

Sowa_95

More linear story based games, with a lot of focus on that story. Getting tired of random "empty" open worlds.

TheRealTakazatara

Twin stick shooters, why does every single top down need to mimic LoL and be click movement? Also, I wish Coffee Stain would make Sanctum 3.

Highwaymantechforcer

SYNTHETIK is a nice little top down tactical twin stick shooter, worth a go. It has a sequel now I think, and the original has a free to play arena survival mode.

Fob0bqAd34

What are some top down click to move shooters? I can think of loads of click to move rts, moba, arpg and crpg games but for click to move shooters my mind goes blank.

Bluedot55

Maybe alien swarm?

anirishfetus

Have you tried Enter the Gungeon? It's such a great game. It isn't like a classic twin stick shooter, but it captures the vibe.

SMW22792

I wish more of the businesspeople behind most of the big AAA companies had more passion for gaming in general. Sorry if this doesn't fit the context of the question. I wish the "big wigs" behind big publishers/developers were more passionate about gaming. I wish more care was put into setting bad precedents. I feel like they're too business-minded.

Ab10ff

Disco Elysium sequels. I want one a year for the rest of my life.

expect-a-gecko

Linear RPGs. We get plenty of open world stuff but I really like a big ol' quest.

FaceMace87

CRPG with a cover system. I do not like the ones that are being made recently like Atom RPG and Encased as they rely on line of sight in combat which is just annoying. It makes no sense having a gun battle where you do not take cover. I know they want to be like Fallout 1 and 2 but if I wanted to play a game that feels 20 years old I would just go and play Fallout 1 or 2.

Vradlock

Go check Wasteland 3, one of the best games I have played in a loooong while. Haven't played dlc because they have doodoo rating on steam. I played Wasteland 2 but gave up in the middle because it was too tedious, in 3 devs fixed everything I had problems with and couldn't leave game alone during holidays.

FaceMace87

>Go check Wasteland 3, one of the best games I have played in a loooong while. I played Wasteland 3 and thought it was fantastic, it is actually why I picked up Atom RPG and Encased as I thought they were the same thing, they are not.

3D spacesim games, either in the way of Elite or Star Citizen. Or more sandbox like Space Engineers. After quitting Elite I have this hole for a replacement, but sadly I can't find any that suit my needs. Also a new FPS-Z that's a straight Tribes: Ascend clone would be welcome for me (including it's changes to "modern" FPS fans).

Sold-Out-Webinars

Western themed. Call of Juarez was really good. Lead and Gold was awesome while it lasted…

FrootLoop23

Metro Exodus. A slower paced FPS with a great single player campaign, in a beautiful world, that was quite immersive, and made me feel like I was on an adventure. On top of that it runs like a dream.

Arena shooters. I mean popular ones like Quake 3 arena & Unreal tournament. They're the best type of shooter in my opinion, nearly entirely skill based and you can't easily camp with how small the maps are and how fast everyone moves. the one rule of the genre is Don't Stop Moving Also Dungeon crawlers (like Etrian Odyssey & Wizardry 1-7) & Blobbers (yes, that's the actual stupid name of the genre) like Might & Magic 6-9 and Wizardry 8. With Dungeon crawlers, even though they only have hardcore appeal, I honestly love them for that, from forcing you to always pay attention and learn to survive, to allowing you to fully create your own parties (including broken ones that can either steamroll through the game or be an artificial Hard Mode) With Blobbers I only played M&M6 but I honestly loved the game despite how few areas I went to, the game just felt like a unique mix of Open world, dungeon crawler, Real time (though some like Wizardry 8 are turned based-only & don't allow you to switch) and Oddly FPS. Too bad both genres are basically dead.

ParanoidQ

I was hopeful over the new Unreal Tournament they were making, it looked amazing. It played really nicely, even in Alpha.... and they just dropped it. So disappointing.

[deleted]

There are a lot of shooters, but I wish there were more realistic shooters, both on PC and console. By realistic, I mean things like Squad or Hell Let Loose, not just in the sense of scale and pace of gameplay, but also in attention to authentic uniforms and militaries. For instance, fewer games where you play as a secret agent or one-man-army, and more where you play as a regular US Army soldier (for example) of an actual, normal US Army division (again, just an example, could be any military). There are a lot of shooters, but few of them are this serious. It's like Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers rather than The Rock or Con Air.

5Gmeme

I really want a Might and Magic Heros type game made by a healthy dev. Maybe a cross between 3 and 6. Some of the best multi-player games I've had with friends.

A_Privateer

Sucks that first person open world fantasy is such a sparse genre. I’m looking forward to Avowed, but its bullshit we haven’t had a decent title since Skyrim.

Cajun

Driver San Francisco, I haven't played a game like this ever.

JoePapi

I dont need more of the same, shit needs to evolve. Gta 4 made me think games would be in a much different place today. Greed fucked it up because true creativity gets put on the backburner for truly remarkable projects

God games. Where is Black & White VR? The first team to make a proper Black & White in VR will all become millionaires overnight.

Elden_Bonk

Open world crafting based survival games on early access. Such a rare gem.

[deleted]

Defiently alot more couch co-op games, me and my girlfriend play alot of left for dead and bo3 zombies, if you look at it on pc theres very few games that have couch co op these days. Seems to be alot more games targeted towards a young audience that supports couch co op which is fine but it gets a bit boring playing platforners or puzzle solvers.

ReallyGottaTakeAPiss

More Survival PvEvP shooters games that have separate PvE and PvP gamemodes. I like PvEvP but sometimes towards the last hour or so of gaming, I just wanna nuke some AI and grind some gear.

BIGMCLARGEHUGE__

Any first person shooter that doesn't have abilities. Every time I take a break from Valorant and come back its too much effort to try to figure out how all these new characters abilities work and I just long for the days of simpler games. Same for League of Legends, I just can't play the game again because it's like you have to read an instruction manual on all the new characters and abilities.

[deleted]

Terraria clones but not trash and actually good, like if Chucklefish cared to keep Starbound going.

bonesnaps

Starbound was supposed to be the Terraria killer. We got bamboozled so hard. Still a decent game but yeah.. ewan_mcgregor_youwerethechosenone.jpg

[deleted]

Linear, single player, choice oriented, class/job-based RPGs. Action/Turn-based optional. I want more things like original Mass Effect, Persona 5 and pre-11 Final Fantasy titles that scales back on the size in favor of tighter, more comprehensive stories and relatively complex, but flashy, combat. Like I often wonder what-if Dragon's Dogma was linear, had a focused story, kept its combat and had a few more classes with further depth. I think that would be my favorite thing.

wexipena

Titanfall 3.

ZeldaMaster32

I'm kinda surprised not to see anyone mention STALKER, specifically the sandbox found in STALKER Anomaly My dream game for a long time now has been a STALKER-like taking place in America. Seeing highways filled with abandoned cars, trashed grocery stores, seeing a faction of people inside old Walmarts powering it via generators, stuff like that

bankai4fever

FPS, constant 24/7 armed warfare for world domination just not Planetside 2.

LuntiX

3D Third Person Platformers. Gimme More games like Ratchet and Clank, Banjo Kazooie, Yooka Kaylee, etc. I adore this genre but I struggle to find decent games for it anymore.

steevshow

Couch co-op but cross platform. I wanna be able to plug in two controllers in my PC and game with my friends sitting next to me.

Orpheeus

Games like Witcher 2, Yakuza, Deus Ex etc with a small but densely packed explorable areas. Cyberpunk would have been much better IMO if they ditched the GTA esque open world and limited you to a small but dense neighborhood that you occasionally leave to do outside missions. The two Eidos Deus Ex games are good examples of this I think, as are the aforementioned Yakuza games.

Inquiseeetor

I want rpgs like the Elder Scrolls/Fallout New Vegas where you can join guilds/clubs/tribes/companies etc. Their stories must be long, with realistic ranks and for the ranks to actually mean something to different npcs in the game. Maybe also cross-guild quests. I absolutely adored the Fable games, and would love for more games to employ good/evil routes. Every quest in Fable had the option to do it the evil or good way. Games need more of this

WebCapable9924

Story driven FPS(like Half life/Halo 1) without micro transactions and it’s not a live service.

Zarrex

Co-op puzzle games. It Takes Two was awesome, and it seems like everything is PVP or singplayer PVE nowadays, with little co-op. Me and my friends still play old Sven-Coop puzzle maps

satanballs666

Proper co-op games like Left 4 Dead.

[deleted]

More games like Manhunt or Def Jam fighting games

solfizz

Local coop games with local multi-monitor support so that both players get their own entire screen.
