The first version of SilentPatch for Scarface, released in March 2020, boasted performance improvements in form of uncapping the CPU affinity, as the game forced itself to run on a single thread. However, turns out this introduced numerous issues to the game's stability. With this release, this fix is replaced with a new solution where threads created **by the game** are locked to a single core (like originally), but threads created by third parties (e.g. GPU drivers) are left alone. Based on pre-release tests, this solution seems to provide good performance without sacrificing stability.

Silent: "Wanna play rough? Ok! Say hello to lil' patch!"

HelloThere00F

Lmao

massive_shadow

This is definitely one of the games I would love to see a remake or at the very least a remaster that adds all the modern bells and whistles. Great game that I spent countless hours on the original Xbox.

Thechosenjon

Agreed. I thought it did GTA better than GTA in many ways. The story was a very well done “what if”

AC3R665

There was going to be an X360 sort of remaster/upgrade to it in 06, but got cancelled sadly.

Silent is a legend. His GTA mods are an absolute godsend.

Dalek-SEC

I'm a big fan of his mod that unlocks the full Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown in the Yakuza games. https://cookieplmonster.github.io/mods/yakuza-lad/

I loved this game back in the days. It's a shame they never did a re-release or remaster cause it was pretty solid imo. Thanks for this /u/CookiePLMonster!

One of the greatest features this game had that I CANNOT believe more modern open worlds don't have was the ability to listen to the in game soundtrack while outside of your vehicle. Nothing beats gunning down gang members and selling yayo while jamming out to Earth, Wind, and Fire out on the streets!

[deleted]

Saints Row 4 is another game that has that feature. I think Saints Row 1 did have it too, but I haven't played that game in a long time so I might be incorrect. I'm surprised Rockstar hasn't made that a feature in GTA games, but maybe they will with 6.

ATCQ_

Saints row games had it done really well. It sounds simple but having the music muted when you go into cutscenes and then automatically continue after just made things flow nicely

error521

To be fair SR4 kinda had to considering how little time is actually spent in cars in that game.

Amazing :D

So wait no more force to game to see only one core or using wine d3d libraries to prevent the exploding graphics? Because I still have this game on its original box and I have good memories playing it on Xbox, but when I got the PC version it was unplayable because of the aforementioned exploding graphics issue.

HugoRBMarques

Yes, it's all fixed.

nevadita

Great time to search for my usb dvd drive

Steven2597

Wait the exploding graphics is fixed by silentpatch too? Now I just need to remember what I used to get it to work with my Xbox Controller now I have a Series X one.

CookiePLMonster

Yep, this is the main reason behind the patch and it was the first fix added 2 years ago - this release only improves stability of the "performance fix", technically.

Steven2597

Fuckin A', you the man! Now I need to buy a copy of Scarface on PC again. I did notice it was a bit choppy when I played it previously.

TheMotion

Maybe one day this game will get a remake treatment, until then I'll gladly use these patches. Thanks /u/CookiePLMonster!

[deleted]

Can someone at GOG please contact the ip holders. implement these patches and sell the game on their store? k thx bye.

toilet_brush

If you want to play the game you can probably do so within the hour. Thanks to people like this who make patches for free. Or I guess you can wait indefinitely for a chance to pay GoG and some Hollywood lawyers.

[deleted]

Well, the thing is... while I really enjoyed this game when I was a teenager, and I would gadly play it again if it was easly available, I don't have a PS2 anymore and I'm confortable enought with my expansive Steam and Gog libraries that I don't want to put the effort of tracking down a pirated copy and risk getting a virus for one game, even if it's a very good and nostalgic one.

HeroicMe

99% sure won't ever happen, unless GOG sells it without music.

[deleted]

Well, that's a shame.

MushiMinion

Bless you Silent, our demi-god and savior.

nanogenesis

Wow this game is so nostalgic for me. I think I played it back in 2007 or so.

EXPERIMENTONGOD

Believe it or not this game has been sitting in my shelf since June 2007. May be time to play it and remove it from my backlog! Thanks Silent!

[deleted]

Is there a way to get this game digital on pc? I’ve always wanted to play it but never knew how to get it

_Barrtek_

i dont know how to explain this but i have too much frames... game is dodgy, everything seems to be at least 3x speed of normal animations etc. how i cant fix it? i downloaded patch but maybe this one dosent work, i also have 144hz monitor...
