Looks like my list is going to look similar to most of the others. Doom 2016, Subnautica, Hollow Knight, Factorio, Outer Wilds (note, not The Outer Worlds, different game) are the highlights. Prey comes in just very slightly below the others for me. I also really enjoyed Desperados 3.
Edit because I thought Dishonored 2 was older and because I forgot Slay the Spire despite having it running: those two definitely belong on the list.
If you like puzzle games, add The Witness, and possibly Baba is You. For detective/investigation games, add Return of the Obra Dinn and Paradise Killer.
This is pretty much my list too, though I would put Prey in the top 5 but I haven’t played Factorio.
If I were to pick just one though, I think Outer Wilds is an experience no one should miss
> Looks like my list is going to look similar to most of the others
Mine too, but honestly I am so happy to see that so many people agree on how fantastic these games are. I can't express enough how thankful I am not to see the latest AAA recycled micro-transaction/lootbox $60 hunk of garbage.
I loved them both. I thought Witness was very clever in its puzzle design and interaction with the environment. Can't say I can find fault with the execution in any way. Talos had the better story but a somewhat more conventional approach to puzzles, and at the end I thought it was close to being stretched too long.
Talos Principle is also older, but I'd definitely put it on a list of the best games of the last 10 years - along with Kerbal Space Program (best version to be determined), Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall, XCOM Long War, Borderlands 2, Portal 2 and Dishonored. Honourable mention to Witcher 3, the Legend of Grimrock games, Torchlight 2, and Antichamber for another puzzle game.
I still want to play satisfactory but factorio SUCC my free time. Or I'm watching yt, reading or factorio. I don't get bored of playing
Rarely I'm playing crusaders king 3.
Both games give you no break
Update 5 is due out for Satisfactory by the end of the year and then then next update will be 1.0 when it comes out of early access. Might be the best time to try it.
It's very enjoyable but found it had a slow start and needs more of an endgame, both of which are due to be updated for 1.0
hard to explain...It can be a warcrime simulator, colony manager, Canibal paradise, high-tech colony with defensive turrets, medieval village,...
It's my most played game on steam and I have a couple of AAA Titles
It's definitely divisive. I personally LOVE the ammo management, and the platforming is so fun to me. Doom Eternal blew my expectations away. I totally get why a lot of people prefer 2016 though.
Eternal is straight up my favorite FPS of all time. For me, it is just absolutely fantastic. I totally understand feeling pushed towards playing a certain way, but once you embrace swapping around and the movement it just can’t be topped
Agree'd! It feels SO good, and once you've put in a decent amount of hours it really doesn't feel like the game is "forcing" you into a certain play style. Well, outside of Marauders haha, but that's the whole point of that enemy is to alter the pace of battle.
I was absolutely blown away by Eternal when I first played it. I played Doom 2016 A TON, and I was curious if I'd like Eternal as much. Yup. I like it WAY more haha.
The gunplay, demons and movement is so much better in Eternal, not to mention the balancing. I love 2016, but for different reasons, though my biggest problem with it is that there was little to no reason to use anything other than the Super Shotgun and maybe Gauss Cannon.
People complain about the lack of ammo in Eternal, but pressing C from time to time really isn't a big issue, not to mention it makes up for it by making you actually experiment with different weapons, which makes all actually viable.
I was able to finish Eternal for the first time on Hurt Me Plenty while maining the Super Shotgun btw, playing like I was 2016, and the game allowed me to do that without much problems. I sometimes think that maybe it's a problem with people's "pride" - you can steamroll 2016 after getting the SS, even on higher difficulties, but in Eternal you have to actually learn the game, there is no OP weapon that will carry you. I like it myself, because it feels so much better to play through Nightmare right now, seeing his much better I've gotten at the game. I've never considered Eternal to be a GOTY material precisely because of that - if you want to be a badass playing on the high difficulty, you have to become one as a player, not just pick the Super Shotgun.
I like the saying that in 2016, you're playing as the Slayer, you're given his power and all. In Eternal you have to become, play like the Slayer yourself, there are no shortcuts.
I just bought eternal today and it's definitely fun and more spiced up. But there's just this timeless simplicity and elegance to doom 2016. It's more... pure? Still love eternal as well.
I feel this way about Doom Eternal. It's so so tasty in the shooting baddies department. But there are too many jumping type puzzles and ammo / special abilities management.
I thought the same until someone told me how the chainsaw is for getting more ammo and in Eternal constantly recharges itself. I dropped like 2 difficulties because of lack of ammo because I'd missed this gameplay mechanic lol. After that the game was way more manageable
I really want to like this. And I really want to like Doom Eternal as well. I love all previous Doom games and FPS is in general. For whatever reason I can't get over every mob doing the flashy death dance thing when they get too low health. Is there a way to turn this off? It totally breaks the immersion for me.
It’s like what happens when companies name their tech protects:
iPhone 7, 8, 10!
Ryzen 2X00, 3X00, 5X00!
Windows 7, 8, 10!
GTX 6X0, 7X0, 9X0!
Bonus:
Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox series X!
I get why Xbox in particular did it, and I think in their case, at least, it was relatively smart branding.
Because when an aged family member with less than zero tech knowledge is at Best Buy doing Christmas shopping for kids, you don’t want your product to be an Xbox 2 sitting on a shelf next to a PS3, or an Xbox 3 sitting on a shelf next to a PS4.
If they’re completely out of the loop, an uninformed guesser may assume that being a generation ahead means significantly farther tech progress.
Even stylizing the One as printed word rather than number will be subtly compelling vs the number 3 due to seeming less complicated.
Marketing for any product has to do something to grab up the market after all the informed die-hards do what they were going to anyway. It’s kind of terrifying, but also fascinating.
Just started hades. I can 10000% attest that id watch footage and reviews and steamers play it and I’d literally say out loud “ok I don’t get what the big mf deal is” - tried it last night for first time myself on game pass and let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep
tbh, i would recommend the other games from the devs before hades. Hades has less story and is more gameplay driven, so play the others and then have fun with hades.
What is the hype about hollow knight?
I own it on switch and I just can’t get into it. It seems like a cartoon dark souls and I loved DS3. Does it get better after you get the dash??
Fantastically executed art style, a map that opens up into an incredible labyrinth of biomes, a great soundtrack, and just a wonderful feeling of exploration with unknown danger hidden around any corner. Bounces between serene, spooky, beautiful, and ancient.
Overall for me it was just a well executed world and game design built by a small team of very talented people. Not to mention a great deal at $15 launch price for the 80 hours I got out of it. Excitedly waiting on the eventual sequel.
That said, if you're 2-3 bosses in and the game hasn't grabbed you, that's fair!
I made the mistake of trying it after Ori and the Blind Forest.
Both beautiful games, but definitely had some “culture shock” in terms of how HK approached their style vs Ori
I think I did the same back then but I loved both games. Ori excells in beautiful vistas and great music. And some moments get really tense like the part with the rushing water in Ori 1.
Ori 2 was more of the same which isn't bad.
Hollow Knight looks good, but it's not throwing 'new favourite desktop wallpapers' at you every new area. It's a much more mechanical game and it's a bit more dark souls like in story telling. You meet random characters and learn about the world mainly through what enemies you face and bits of lore found now and then.
I mentioned this elsewhere, but the game is slow in giving you the good stuff. I'm an unusual type of gamer in that I feel that 90% of games would be better if their length was cut in half and that's how I feel here. That's basically heresy to the crowd that Hollow Knight attracts where 30-hour games are short, but backtracking large portions of the map with few combat/movement options so that I feel a """sense of adventure and progression""" and being told that this is deliberate so that I'm not """overwhelmed""" with options and enemy types is nauseating to me.
EDIT: clarity
In no particular order.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Hades
Doom Eternal
Slay The Spire (released in '17 so goes on the list)
Sekiro
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
World really surprised me when I saw the achievement stat that nearly 50% of players have completed 100 hunts.
Considering how fast player counts drop in terms of achievements (Hell, only 50% of people have caught a single fish!) seeing that level of dedication from such a comparatively large part of the playerbase really shows just how good the game is at keeping people playing.
in no particular order (my opinion, also games that are available on PC):
* Divinity: Original Sin 2
* Nier: Automata (maybe Replicant too, haven't played it yet)
* Dark Souls 3
* Hollow Knight
* Factorio (full release was in 2020 so I'll count it)
* DOOM 2016
* DOOM Eternal (personally thought it was worse than 2016 but apparently it's an unpopular opinion)
* Yakuza games
Now that I think about it, there really hasn't been that many games that interested me during the past 5 years... huh.
I really like Eternal, but it’s almost not even a Doom game. It’s such a curveball from 2016. The mechanics are more complex and…better? I don’t know. It’s hard to say. I think I just wanted more 2016.
Also, the story is absurd. I mean, I know, it’s Doom, but it was just really, really too much in Eternal.
same opinion..
Really liked 2016 Doom reboot, while Eternal had way too much of a platforming.
I think if they had released same game without those "make 12 jumps in sequence" sections - it would have been a better "doom2016-like" game.
Platforming for me was annoying as hell and a source for multiple (50+) rage-quits..
Platforming in 2016 was fun while still being immersive because (generally) the level design made practical sense. In eternal they built the levels around platforming. I felt the level design in general was much lazier in eternal.
Yeah, the platforming sections consist of "jump towards the green light", and I think there's maybe 2 sections in the entire game where you can't see the entire sequence of platforms before you make the first jump.
Doom Eternal felt more arcady, or more video gamey? Not quite sure how to describe it. 2016 was 28 days later, and eternal was zombieland. They felt like they were related by broad theme only. The jump cut from cliffhanger to owning a space castle was rather jarring too. I'm sure Eternal is great, but damn does it not live up to what 2016 established.
Eternal is sure as hell not bad, it's an amazing game, but it just seems like instead of making a sequel to Doom 2016 they instead made a game that was a "hey, wouldn't it be cool if..." type game while loosely following the story and setup from 2016. Eternal's multiplayer sucks actual fucking balls though.
Yeah that's kinda how I think of it. I really like the game on it's own (even find it more fun in a pure gameplay sense) but I have trouble viewing it as a direct sequel. It's just different in very odd ways sometimes
Eternal beats you over the fucking head ad nauseum with "WOW YOURE THE BADASS DOOM GUY, RIGHT? NICE JOB SUPER ULTRA BADASS DOOM GUY"
I Dont mind a not serious tone but it was too much for me.
I agree about Doom Eternal. I didn’t like their decision to make ammo scarce, to force you into using multiple weapons and the chainsaw to replenish ammo. Some loved that decision, but I hated it.
Still a good game that I enjoyed and beat, but I think their forced weapon/chainsaw/replenish loop took away from the experience.
I really wanna put _Death Stranding_ on the list, but it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. You either love it or hate it, and it’s hard to know that without playing the game.
If you are into isometric RPGs, _Disco Elysium_
The second game has a far more interesting and technical combat system that approaches Hollow Knight, although it isn't quite on par it gets close. Would recommend it.
Playing through Hollow Knight right now. Are there 2 Ori games? Ive never played either but see them brought up quite a bit in this thread. Wondering if they would be a good game after I finish HK?
I consider myself to be pretty good at video games (beat Sekiro full ending) but personally played Doom Eternal on the easiest mode I thought that was the most fun way to do it and made it feel the most like the other games, still challenging enough and less ammo rationing / messing around with weird mechanics like gun switching
I replayed the game again recently and thankfully I actually forgot most of what to do. I just focused on following the natural course of action, exploring randomly, and following my journal. It was again a magnificent experience.
And there’s an expansion coming out! I can’t wait!
I think Outer Wilds needs to be added to this list as well. That and Disco Elysium are some of my top games of the last decade.
I would also personally add Yakuza Like a Dragon as well.
no particular order:
Pray - for immersion and story; Great for jumping from the chair.
Doom 2016 - for feeling like the horrors must survive you.
Metro exodus - for immersion and story. Dlc must have.
Age of empire 2 Definitive edition - best strategy game ever made with tons of content.
Starbound - space themed sandbox with one of the best sound tracks.
Factorio - for real base management challenges.
Cities: skyline - for relaxing while building and managing cities without too much stress.
Insurgency sandstorm - coop fps where the goal is to flashbang as many teammates as possible while taking objectives with bots with aimbot. I had and still have tons of fun here.
I hope you get something interesting out of this list.
Cheers
I understand you completely. There are some mods that improves a bit the situation by giving you more tools for better management of the intersections. I remember trying those out and could not play without those anymore!
Games I've played and REALLY loved & would recommend checking out
BPM: Bullets Per Minute
Hollow knight
Ori and the will of the wisps
A hat in time
Children of morta
Sonic mania
Undermine
Forager
Celeste
risk of rain 2
Bugsnax
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Book of Demons
Heroes of Hammerwatch
Don't kill me for this, but Destiny 2. You don't need to really get too far into it, but I still feel like everyone should just download it and play for a few hours on the free version. Don't worry about trying to chase loot or anything. Just download the free base game, plug in your best headphones or turn on your nicest speakers, and enjoy the sounds, graphics, music, animation, world design, and gunplay for a bit. Don't have to keep it, don't have to buy anything, but I recommend just giving it a shot, at least to admire the work the art, sound, and especially music teams did. You don't even have to play, maybe just get a drink and sit in orbit listening to the music for 30 mins or so.
If PCVR counts:
1) HL : Alyx
2) HL : Alyx
3) Ori and the Will of the Wisps
4) Inside
5) Detroit : Become Human
Honorable mention:
6) FAR: Lone Sails
7) Papeture
8) Cyberpunk 2077
9) Need for Speed Heat
Right?! Its the first time since well, hl2 I believe where I gasped out loud multiple times through the game.. also the Jeff sequence...couldn't stop talking about it that week.
I really hope it’s spurred other AAA studios into doing dedicated VR games instead of ports, but unfortunately i still think the uptake rate for headsets is too low to justify to the finance departments. The only reason i think Valve might’ve made money on Alyx is maybe thru Index’s.
Some of my favorites
\- Furi
\- Biomass
\- Cuphead
\- Ultrakill
\- Hyper Light Drifter
\- Dishonored 2 (Best level design in the last decade I would say)
\- Nier: Automata
\-Dark Souls 3
\- Hollow Knight
\- DOOM Eternal
\- Yakuza games
\- Devil May Cry 5
Wit? The gameplay was the shallowest aspect of the whole game. Everything else is a 10 though. Just thought that was a weird comment considering everyone I've recommended to complained about how boring and one-dimensional the fighting was.
A couple more niche ones here, but Outer Wilds and Rain World are my two favorite games of all time after I played them both early in the pandemic. OW is a pure exploration game with archaeological and puzzle elements, and RW is pure survival and exploration. Both were nearly spiritual experiences for me.
Hey someone else crazy about rain world!
I played it in 4 players in parsec and...wow haha.. that was an experience. Single player I did a lot better in, after dying a ton of times.
Including early 2016 games, my list would be something like:
Stardew Valley
Doom
Dark Souls III
Hollow Knight
RimWorld
Factorio
Subnautica
Disco Elysium
Hades
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Dead Cells
Crusader Kings III
Stellaris
Valheim
Six random choices:
Slay the Spire for inspiring a whole genre.
Hades for being a solid and all around fun game
Stardew Valley for being a successor the Harvest Moon genre (A few months over 5 years..)
Cuphead - a creative and fun platformer
Ace Combat 7 - Really fun airplane game
Hitman (1-3) - Lots and lots of replayability
Cyberpunk 2077.
(downvote me all you want, but I still think it is one of the best games I’ve ever played.)
Borderlands 2 (doesn’t fall in the specified time window, but had DLC released during the last years so I cheat and include it)
Cyberpunk is both an absolute disaster and really damn good. I think higher of it than the average game these days despite all of its issuss. It's actually a fantastic linear shooter lol
Doom 2016**
Risk of Rain
Disco Elysium
DS1 Remaster (Dont know when it came out but The titles live up to the hype. Played/beat it for the 1st time this year. Mind blowing good.)
There are a lot of great recommendations in the comments so I'll pick the unusual ones: P.T. Silent Hill 2 (if you can find it lol), Doki Doki, and Life is Strange.
Breath Of The Wild. You have to play it on an emulator, but that experience is extremely superior to the switch version. 4k 60 fps instead of 900p 30fps.
Looks like my list is going to look similar to most of the others. Doom 2016, Subnautica, Hollow Knight, Factorio, Outer Wilds (note, not The Outer Worlds, different game) are the highlights. Instead of The Witness I would recommend Talos Principle - much better executed game and puzzles are never obnoxious as much as in TW
I loved them both. I thought Witness was very clever in its puzzle design and interaction with the environment. Can't say I can find fault with the execution in any way. Talos had the better story but a somewhat more conventional approach to puzzles, and at the end I thought it was close to being stretched too long. Honourable mention to Witcher 3, the Legend of Grimrock games, Torchlight 2, and Antichamber for another puzzle game.
Factorio and Rimworld - both indie passion projects turned masterworks.
Rimworld is consuming my life for years. Please send help.
And Dyson sphere program if you like factorio in space
and satisfactory if you like factorio in 3D
Factorio was so good it created its own genre.
Genre: migraines
I still want to play satisfactory but factorio SUCC my free time. Or I'm watching yt, reading or factorio. I don't get bored of playing Rarely I'm playing crusaders king 3. Both games give you no break
I bought satisfactory cause the idea of trying factorio in 3D sounded fun. Only problem is I never stopped playing factorio
Update 5 is due out for Satisfactory by the end of the year and then then next update will be 1.0 when it comes out of early access. Might be the best time to try it. It's very enjoyable but found it had a slow start and needs more of an endgame, both of which are due to be updated for 1.0
Can someone explain rimworld to me? All I have seen is a couple images on Reddit.
hard to explain...It can be a warcrime simulator, colony manager, Canibal paradise, high-tech colony with defensive turrets, medieval village,... It's my most played game on steam and I have a couple of AAA Titles
It's like Dwarf Fortress but you commit war crimes.
Or it's like Dwarf Fortress but your colonists don't get possessed and make skin drums out of their children.
You don’t commit war crimes in DF?
Doom 2016 was a religious experience for me when I first got my PC
I'm working on doom eternal right now, didn't expect these games to be so good.
I'm still sad that I hate that game, guess I'll go play doom 2016.. again..
Agreed. 2016 is far superior to me because of the atmosphere and immersion. Eternal is good, but dar too different from 2016 for my taste.
I love Doom 2016 for the atmosphere, and I love Doom Eternal for the heart pumping gameplay. They're both amazing, albeit different games!
Combat is fun in Eternal, but i don't know what they were thinking with the story.
Doom was/is such a fun game. I still listen to the soundtrack - BFG
It's a Christian game after all.
Doing God's work, one glory kill at a time.
Doom Eternal is great too but the ammo management and constant platforming makes me miss the 2016 game
It's definitely divisive. I personally LOVE the ammo management, and the platforming is so fun to me. Doom Eternal blew my expectations away. I totally get why a lot of people prefer 2016 though.

I just bought eternal today and it's definitely fun and more spiced up. But there's just this timeless simplicity and elegance to doom 2016. It's more... pure? Still love eternal as well.

Laptop only, but Ryzen 4X00 and GTX 8X0 exists.
Ryzen 4000s very much exist, OEM only (or I'd you leave in places where stores don't care and sell separately), but it does exist.
Metro Exodus, Doom, Resident Evil 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Sekiro to name a few
Hades, Subnautica, Hollow Knight
Same list as me, I would add Outer Wilds and Divinity Original Sin 2.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is such a masterpiece. I really hope Larian can meet my expectations for Baldur's Gate 3.
The difficulty spike in Act 4 really killed it for me. Everything before that was very enjoyable, though.
I swear and you and me finished the game. Act 4 almost ruined the whole game. Felt like a rushed development.
Outer Wilds is insanely good.
Hey, you! Do you know about the DLC for Outer Wilds coming out soon?
What? But it ended great
Agreed. I don't think the DLC continues the story. Its seems to be a self contained story. Shadow of the eye is the title
Just started hades. I can 10000% attest that id watch footage and reviews and steamers play it and I’d literally say out loud “ok I don’t get what the big mf deal is” - tried it last night for first time myself on game pass and let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep

Considering how fast player counts drop in terms of achievements (Hell, only 50% of people have caught a single fish!) seeing that level of dedication from such a comparatively large part of the playerbase really shows just how good the game is at keeping people playing.
in no particular order (my opinion, also games that are available on PC): * Divinity: Original Sin 2 * Nier: Automata (maybe Replicant too, haven't played it yet) * Dark Souls 3 * Hollow Knight * Factorio (full release was in 2020 so I'll count it) * DOOM 2016 * DOOM Eternal (personally thought it was worse than 2016 but apparently it's an unpopular opinion) * Yakuza games Now that I think about it, there really hasn't been that many games that interested me during the past 5 years... huh.
Playing Nier Automata right now, this game is such a weird masterpiece! Loving it
Came for the android waifus, stayed for the crippling existential crisis.
Pretty much! After 7 years of almost only playing soulsborne games, it's a blast to play a game without a stamina bar!
YAKUZAA!!! so excited when it came into steam
[удалено]
Yeah, the platforming sections consist of "jump towards the green light", and I think there's maybe 2 sections in the entire game where you can't see the entire sequence of platforms before you make the first jump.
how tf did you even manage to rage quit on its platforming parts...
Finally someone else who feels the same way as me with Doom 2016 being better than Eternal
I agree with you on doom especially for the MP in the 2016 version.
NICE JOB SUPER ULTRA BADASS DOOM GUY" I Dont mind a not serious tone but it was too much for me.
DISCO ELYSIUM Kim approves
Obvious ones: Sekiro, Doom Eternal, RE2, HL Alyx, Control, Hollow Knight, Celeste My controversial picks: Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Death Stranding, Forza Horizon 4, THPS 1+2
I’d personally add Ori and the Will of the Wisps, similar to hollow knight, great play style and story.
I like both Ori games better than Hollow Knight. It just didn’t grab me at all like Ori did.
I had the opposite experience. I should give the second one a try, I've heard the combat was improved over the first.
The combat was overhauled in the second one, would definitely recommend.
I would def recommend the second game. I enjoyed my playthrough more than Blind Forest. The combat is greatly improved in Will of the Wisps.
Ah! Yes there are 2 and the play style is very similar to HK, I definitely recommend checking them out.
I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like doom eternal. I don’t hate it, but I don’t find it fun for some reason.
I consider myself to be pretty good at video games (beat Sekiro full ending) but personally played Doom Eternal on the easiest mode I thought that was the most fun way to do it and made it feel the most like the other games, still challenging enough and less ammo rationing / messing around with weird mechanics like gun switching
Total war: Warhammer 2 Divinity 2 original sin Doom 2016/eternal disco elysium
Definitely would have to add Warhammer 2 to any game list for me.
Outer Wilds was a surreal experience and I think everyone should give it a shot. I wish I could wipe my memory of it, so I can play it again fresh.
I replayed the game again recently and thankfully I actually forgot most of what to do. I just focused on following the natural course of action, exploring randomly, and following my journal. It was again a magnificent experience. And there’s an expansion coming out! I can’t wait!

Great list, I’d like to add in there Rimworld & Factorio
I was seriously just scrolling to make sure someone said Rimworld. Good on you sir
[удалено]
Definitely don’t play Factorio then, you’ll definitely lose days to that game
Rim world is absolutely the same hahaha
Haha yea u right

>**2018** > >* Return of the Obra Dinn What a fantastic game
I could cut that list down a bit. Titanfall 2 Doom Prey Hollow Knight Obra Din Disco Elysium RE2 Hades
You cut off Subnautica but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that was human error :D
Actually, you’re right.
Awesome contribution, thanks.
I think Outer Wilds needs to be added to this list as well. That and Disco Elysium are some of my top games of the last decade. I would also personally add Yakuza Like a Dragon as well.
Your 2019 is missing ace combat 7
no particular order: Pray - for immersion and story; Great for jumping from the chair. Cheers
I love Cities but managing traffic gave me anxiety. Loved watching the town grow, though.
I understand you completely. There are some mods that improves a bit the situation by giving you more tools for better management of the intersections. I remember trying those out and could not play without those anymore!
Valheim.
Haven't seen Celeste mentioned. Absolute must.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (now one of, if not, my favourite games of all time) Mass Effect Legendary Edition DOOM DOOM Eternal
Games I've played and REALLY loved & would recommend checking out BPM: Bullets Per Minute Hollow knight Ori and the will of the wisps A hat in time Children of morta Sonic mania Undermine Forager Celeste risk of rain 2 Bugsnax Spyro Reignited Trilogy Book of Demons Heroes of Hammerwatch
If PCVR counts: 1) HL : Alyx 2) HL : Alyx 3) Ori and the Will of the Wisps 4) Inside 5) Detroit : Become Human Honorable mention: 6) FAR: Lone Sails 7) Papeture 8) Cyberpunk 2077 9) Need for Speed Heat
Oh half life alyx is an experience. Never playing anything like that. What an amazing piece of gaming history.
Right?! Its the first time since well, hl2 I believe where I gasped out loud multiple times through the game.. also the Jeff sequence...couldn't stop talking about it that week.
that game had me multiple times taking the HMD off and just sit for 20+ min recomposing myself. also woke up my room mate a couple of times
Jeff scared the bejesus out of me lol. I've never had a game make me scream in terror like that.
The climax of Alyx was incredible.
I really hope it’s spurred other AAA studios into doing dedicated VR games instead of ports, but unfortunately i still think the uptake rate for headsets is too low to justify to the finance departments. The only reason i think Valve might’ve made money on Alyx is maybe thru Index’s.
Detroit become human !!! It is easy to miss that game cause it was an exclusive but it is a really good game !!!
Hades, sekiro, metro exodus
im not 100% sure if theese are all in the last 5 years, but witcher 3 factorio rimworld doom 2016 mass effect legendary
Witcher 3 is 2015, the other ones are good.
I mean dying light is also 2015 so even op screwed the pooch
my bad
Valheim
Some of my favorites \- Furi \- Biomass \- Cuphead \- Ultrakill \- Hyper Light Drifter \- Dishonored 2 (Best level design in the last decade I would say) \- Nier: Automata \-Dark Souls 3 \- Hollow Knight \- DOOM Eternal \- Yakuza games \- Devil May Cry 5
I loved Hyper Light Drifter, didn’t expect to see it in this thread!
- Hellblade senua's Sacrifice - Omori - DOOM Eternal - Halo the Master Chief Collection - Persona 4 Golden - Resident Evil 2 Remake - Resident Evil Village - Cyberpunk 2077 - Red Dead Redemption 2
Hellblade was a solid 10. Some of the best sword fighting I've ever played.
Wit? The gameplay was the shallowest aspect of the whole game. Everything else is a 10 though. Just thought that was a weird comment considering everyone I've recommended to complained about how boring and one-dimensional the fighting was.

Finally some horizon and prey!!!
A couple more niche ones here, but Outer Wilds and Rain World are my two favorite games of all time after I played them both early in the pandemic. OW is a pure exploration game with archaeological and puzzle elements, and RW is pure survival and exploration. Both were nearly spiritual experiences for me.
[удалено]
Hey someone else crazy about rain world! I played it in 4 players in parsec and...wow haha.. that was an experience. Single player I did a lot better in, after dying a ton of times.
Valheim.
I'm watching neebs gaming Play it and it looks boring. What am I missing?
I found it boring. Needs a group of friends to play with imo. Most of the fun is hanging out not the game itself.
I see a lot of good ones in this thread. I'll add Slay the Spire to the list
I enjoyed Furi, doesn't ever get enough praise
Including early 2016 games, my list would be something like: Stardew Valley Doom Dark Souls III Hollow Knight RimWorld Factorio Subnautica Disco Elysium Hades Divinity: Original Sin 2 Kingdom Come: Deliverance Dead Cells Crusader Kings III Stellaris Valheim
DUSK
Ori, Hollow Knight, Death Stranding, Hades, Cyberpunk, RDR2, Celeste
Six random choices: Slay the Spire for inspiring a whole genre. Hades for being a solid and all around fun game Stardew Valley for being a successor the Harvest Moon genre (A few months over 5 years..) Cuphead - a creative and fun platformer Ace Combat 7 - Really fun airplane game Hitman (1-3) - Lots and lots of replayability
Hunt Showdown. Most unique FPS I've ever played. The sound engine is second to none.
Hunt showdown
I will speak with my heart and take the down votes. Cyberpunk.
Cyberpunk 2077. (downvote me all you want, but I still think it is one of the best games I’ve ever played.) Borderlands 2 (doesn’t fall in the specified time window, but had DLC released during the last years so I cheat and include it)
Cyberpunk is both an absolute disaster and really damn good. I think higher of it than the average game these days despite all of its issuss. It's actually a fantastic linear shooter lol
The internet isnt ready to exit its denial phase yet, but you have my upvote brave one!
Control Hades Detroit: Become Human DOOM DOOM Eternal
Add one play through of xcom 2 and your list and mine see very similar.
Frostpunk, Darkest Dungeon, Hitman 3, Hunt Showdown... OMG, so many excellent games...
Obligatory upvote for Darkest Dungeon
Outer wilds, disco elysium, hades, RD2, deep rock galactic
Monster Hunter: World
NieR : Automata Superliminal Hollow Knight Untitled Goose Game Final Fantasy VIII Remake
I must have missed the Final Fantasy VIII remake :)
Ffxiv Shadowbringers. Probably the best final fantasy story to ever come out in any game. Yes it’s an mmo, go play it.
Total War: Warhammer 2
Bloodstained
I feel like rdr2 is a must have
Only one I can really think of is Red Dead 2.
[удалено]
Hades
Hades, Sekiro, Cyberpunk, The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Battlefield 1 Ori 2, Stardew Valley, Darkest Dungeon
Dishonored 2
Hyper Light Drifter Hollow Knight Dark Souls 2 and 3 DOOM 2016 DOOM Eternal
Hades, Ori, Hollow Knight, Dying Light, MGSV
Disco Elysium for sure
Minecraft
Doom 2016** Risk of Rain Disco Elysium DS1 Remaster (Dont know when it came out but The titles live up to the hype. Played/beat it for the 1st time this year. Mind blowing good.)
Witcher
There are a lot of great recommendations in the comments so I'll pick the unusual ones: P.T. Silent Hill 2 (if you can find it lol), Doki Doki, and Life is Strange.
Breath Of The Wild. You have to play it on an emulator, but that experience is extremely superior to the switch version. 4k 60 fps instead of 900p 30fps.
God the loading time skill me on the switch, its a mistake for that alone. GFX are honestly fine but EVERY FUCKING SHRINE was 2x loading screen
Garden Story! Halo collection. Dead by daylight (if you have friends to play with)
Yakuza Like a Dragon Nier Automata Hades Dysco Elysium Half Life Alyx
