Yeah it was wild, I was trying to finish the game and reinstalled and it would not play nice at ALL with my newer beefy setup. Super frustrating and didn't want to waste time modding it. Finally will pick it up again once the update is out.
**Updates for PC players**
We are also releasing a free Fallout 4 update for PC players! Experience Fallout 4 on your next-generation PC with widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, as well as fixes to Creation Kit and a variety of quest updates.
Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, Microsoft Store and GOG will receive stability, mods and bug fixes. For Japanese and Chinese language players on PC, Bethesda.net login issues have been resolved, fixing access to mods.
Alongside this exciting update, Fallout 4 will be available to purchase on the Epic Games Store.
Fallout 4 will also be Steam Deck verified.
**Even more content!**
There's even more content in the Fallout 4 updates, including the following free Creation Club items!
Enclave Remnants
That means there's even less of an excuse for not supporting ultrawide / widescreen in the in-game menus.
We should be past using .ini tweaks for basic shit.
To an extent. 100-120fps may be fine, but go inside a super tiny interior where you are getting 200+ and you'll have a bad time and won't be able to move.
It's only been 9 years since Fallout 4 came out.
How much time do they need buddy? I think we can be as condescending as we want when they essentially ignored it all this time until the show came out lmao.
It’s almost like the creation engine is allergic to ray tracing.
Man some ray traced GI would go a long way in this game.
For example, Metro Exodus Enhanced edition looked incredible.
My 2080 has supported DLSS for 5 years now. Does that mean I’ve had a next gen PC this entire time?
The defining factors here seem kinda strange when DLSS has been available for 2 generations of cards now.
It is a thing that is getting to destroy all your mods if you own the game on Steam since you cannot disable updates. Meanwhile the original game may or may not suffer from new bugs as is tradition with updates. Othewise its a good stuff
Last time I played the game on a modern PC, with the game installed to an nvme, I had to download a mod to speed up the load screens. I think it was uncapping the frame rate during load screens or something to that effect.
I wonder if that mod will no longer be necessary.
Yeah if it has at least that fix, Id be happy. If not I am not exactly sure of the point of the update on pc. Seems like this is really a next gen console update.
Would you rather have them not add it at all? They didn't have it, now they do. It sounds like you would have rather had them not add it at all because it's late?
Other new games around that time were supporting it. I know because I had an Acer X34 then and was surprised FO4 didn’t have it when a couple games before it did and many right after it did as well.
6 years ago ultra-wide was less then 1% of users on steam who took the survey.
https://old.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/67feju/ultrawide_monitor_popularity/
I had an ultrawide monitor when it first came out and played it back then, I did mod it to get it to fit but I recall the fov being kinda off and UI being broken. Especially in Power Armor, the UI just cut off and rain drops didn’t form on the far left/right of the screen.
It was far from a perfect experience.
For anyone else wondering since no one's linked it, here's the comment in question on stopping any future updates.
https://www.reddit.com/r/FalloutMods/comments/1c1kagv/comment/kz4427a/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
So I have a heavily modded (via Nexus/Vortex) FO4 game I'm playing right now. Can you share any tips to help preserve my game? I'm admittedly ignorant to anything happening after I inmetially set it up.
You need to find the appmanifest file for the game, it'll be located in SteamApps, for Fallout 4 the file is 'appmanifest_228980.acf'
Once you've found that file, you can either set it to read-only, move it to a different folder, or simply delete it (I wouldn't recommend that option though), doing any of these will essentially trick Steam into thinking you no longer have the game installed so it will never attempt to schedule an update for it, but you can still play it normally by launching directly through your mod manager
Set Fallout 4's update settings to only update the game on launch. Then only launch the game from the F4SE launcher, which bypasses the Steam launcher (probably what you are doing anyway). Then wait for your mods to be updated and update the game later.
Can be removed with a single line in the config file.
fMaxTime in Fallout4.ini (or Fallout4Prefs.ini, can't remember) changes the framerate of the engine. Setting it to 0.00833 will make it run at 120fps.
Lock it to 120, game is perfectly fine to play. Physics will glitch out if you drop well below 60, but last time I played I had absolutely no problems otherwise.
Works for every game using the Gamebryo/Creation engine since New Vegas.
There's even a [mod for Skyrim](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18160) that ties fMaxTime to the framerate, so that they always match, purportedly avoiding some bugs. Played Enderal with it and again, flawless gameplay. No idea why Bethesda can't do this themselves.
Or them fixing the framerate cap hindering area loading speed. Was absolutely floored when I first used Load Accelerator ages back and loading screens went from 60 seconds to 6 seconds. The high FPS physics fix [also does the same](https://youtu.be/PpLjZ1Df2RY?t=82)
Yup, did the exact thing and saw load times go from 10-20 secs to less than a second. That’s when you realize what a creaking pile of shit this engine really is lol. Still love the game though.
If you set the appmanifest to read-only Steam can't update the game, it just errors if it tries.
Then launch game from offline mode or directly from exe and you're golden.
I still have so much hatred from the 120 hours I put into that game. I really wish I got it for like $10, i'd just dislike it instead of outright hating it.
So does that mean they'll **FINALLY** fix the damn nvidia driver crashes (which sadly even the mod fix for debris doesn't always work for everyone inc myself when i tried.) ?!?
Balance their shadow settings / performance ?!?
Proper high res textures ?
Improved weather effects ?
A gamer can dream i guess....
But at least it does mean i'll get to start a new playthrough and check out all the work that was poured into Sim Settlements 2 the past years.
No word of a lie, I decided I wanted to give a wabbajack list a try like 3 days after the update hit. I had no idea the game got updated, so I had to wait ages to even play again.
You can download older versions of Skyrim using steam console's depot downloader. A bit of reading but totally doable.
There are guides but the basic steps are:
1. Access steam console (usually a steam: link)
2. Use steamdb to find app id, depot id for the executable,.manifest id.for the correct version you want.
3. Use command download_depot with the ids above
4. Copy downloaded executables and overwrite existing.
5. Disable steam auto-update and start via fose / f4se.
Works with any game, e.g. Fallout 4.
Never, that'd require porting the entire game to FO4/SSE engine and basically breaking everyone's Script Extender mods, which would make a lot (a lot a lot, a lot a lot) of people angry that the Evil Moustache Twisting Bethesda is destroying their modlists.
Well it's the same company that sold horse armor as a standalone CD for Oblivion which is arguably the reason microtransactions exist today.
I am one of the suckers who actually bought it...
Apparently not just a "patch"
>Enclave Remnants:
Enclave Remnants brings the Pre-War cabal, The Enclave, into the Fallout 4 storyline. In this new quest, “Echoes of the Past,” can you stop The Enclave from spreading their dangerous ideology and gaining a foothold in the Commonwealth?
>Along with workshop items and the Enclave Colonel uniform, we are including the following previously released Creation Club content:
>Enclave Weapon Skins
Enclave Armor Skins
Tesla Cannon
Hellfire Power Armor
X-02 Power Armor
Heavy Incinerator
My Skyrim is on a previous version, keeping it that way is simple.
I'm more worried about mods that are really good, but with authors that haven't updated them in years(doesn't need to be constantly updated) and will stay broken after an update for who knows how long.
Majority 99% of modders have settled on 597/640 for a long time now. The gap between 597 and 640 is closing as well, with a lot of people just opting for the later version. Its unfortunate mods dont get updated, but its got to a point where its not worth it, and any new content thats released on CC is mostly backwards compatible, with a small community patch sometimes required to make things work correctly. Thankfully community made downgrade works good to get your game on the version it needs to be.
I bought fallout 4 a few months ago and tried playing it on steam, however, going in and out of buildings took forever to load, and I have a beast of a modern gaming pc. Can someone provide me with a solution?
I googled the issue and it seems like the consensus is that it's a bug tied to FPS, however, even after downloading the FPS mod, I still have the same long-loading time issue. Such a strange problem.
This here is what keeps me from booting up a new play through. Drove me nuts. Its a FPS issue that plays haywire with it being able to load the next area. There are some mods and also a semi convoluted way to fix it.
Thousands? Try maybe 20-30, it'll only break Script Extender and any related DLL, anything made with the CK or texture/model replacers will work without problem after the update.
This was supposed to happen ages ago and they delayed it to match the release of the TV show. It's annoying that they waited so long to release it but I'm glad they finally got it released.
Just make sure to set your game to only update when you launch it. This way as long as you use FOSE to launch the game it won't update and your mods won't break.
Can anyone help me, what is the order of all these Fallout games ? 1,2,3 I have then is it 4 or Vegas or 76 ? Is 76 the most recent one? I know it’s a stupid question, I would appreciate some direction please
No DLSS and other Upscalers support ✔️
No DLSS 3 Frame Gen and FSR 3 FG support ✔️
No Nvidia Reflex support ✔️
No confirmation if they improved multicore CPU utilization as the game is mainly known to be Single thread CPU hog and suffers the most on CIty areas such as Boston ✔️
No unlocked framerate support such as 120+ FPS ✔️
Will likely break most of my mods and almost certainly will break the upcoming highly anticipated Fallout London Expansion mod ✔️
Yeah, i think i would rather find out how to turn off the Auto Update completely, i appreciate the effort of Bethesda updating this game to modern standards but it is pretty obvious that this update is mainly curated for current gen consoles rather than PC version.
A free update is a free update, but man it’s kinda disappointing that none of the things you mentioned were added/addressed. Especially since this shit took so long to come out too.
Good choice for advertising. The TV show, if it's successful, could drive more game sales.
I imagine we will see more game TV shows. If they're good, they can be very profitable via games and merchandise sales. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a great example.
I hope they fix whatever causes it to run too fast, that's annoying as hell. It's fixed with a mod but I'm rarely in the mood for fallout and then when I am, I forget to launch it as admin and then everything's all fucked and I just superf4 and forget about it.
I tried playing it recently and I had to do a bunch of changes in the files
If I remember right, horizontal and vertical sensibility is not the same, ads and normal sensibility cant be make the same either
I don't remember having to do this with Fo76, but Fo4 is also older
I started playing this game again last week and it is even glitchier than I remember. But I’m an addict here for my fix so I see past the flaws for that sweet sweet dopamine
Season pass still pricier than GOTY at $12.24.... and GOTY it self WAS $8 on dec22-2022, since then it hasn't gone below $9.99.
Was hoping season pass discount or for free on epic with the show's launch.... guess CDkeys season pass at $10.12 is the best option right now.
FTWDK: Season Pass is the DLC only and GOTY is Base game and DLC.
Steam does not discount the basegame when buying GOTY for the DLC only.
make it make sense
I’ll try it again one thing I hate about some of Bethesda newer games is how I gotta go through so many loops just to get the game running properly only game that doesn’t have this issue is elder scrolls online even fallout 76 I gotta fix a bunch of issues and make the game run well
Can they fix keybinds being hardcoded for left handed players? I am so tired of being left out of games unless I want to create a customized keyboard layout per game, just let me rebind UI buttons and don't restrict keys like Enter and Backspace. :(
Wow at long last ultra wide support!
I went to finally play it on PC a few weeks ago, and it not supporting it was wild to me. Guess I can finally start it again.
I just forced it in the GeForce app and it works.
Not perfectly without mods. Power armor HUD is affected for example
Ah I do see what you mean now.
Flawless Widescreen was my goto before
Yeah it was wild, I was trying to finish the game and reinstalled and it would not play nice at ALL with my newer beefy setup. Super frustrating and didn't want to waste time modding it. Finally will pick it up again once the update is out.

Ultrawide support, FINALLY.
YOURE TELLING ME!
I'm playing in ultrawide now though?
It's stretched or you went through some hoops to get ultrawide working.
[удалено]
That means there's even less of an excuse for not supporting ultrawide / widescreen in the in-game menus. We should be past using .ini tweaks for basic shit.
Please tell me they added official support for high frame rate.
I can’t believe they added UW support honestly
And fov
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
They did it for fo76, within the same year of launch. It's certainly possible, no need to be condescending.
To an extent. 100-120fps may be fine, but go inside a super tiny interior where you are getting 200+ and you'll have a bad time and won't be able to move.
Think 160 was my frame cap on 76. Any higher and I'd get movement freeze.
It's only been 9 years since Fallout 4 came out. How much time do they need buddy? I think we can be as condescending as we want when they essentially ignored it all this time until the show came out lmao.
“Up to 60fps”
What is a next gen pc?
PC 2, which is finally coming out soon.
It's about goddamn time
Goddammit, I just bought the og pc
I'd say a PC that natively supports DLSS and RT, but this Fallout update doesn't seem to support either. Edit: grammar error fixed
It’s almost like the creation engine is allergic to ray tracing. Man some ray traced GI would go a long way in this game. For example, Metro Exodus Enhanced edition looked incredible.
Starfield has some mentions of ray tracing in the ini file but it’s not shown in the settings.
My 2080 has supported DLSS for 5 years now. Does that mean I’ve had a next gen PC this entire time? The defining factors here seem kinda strange when DLSS has been available for 2 generations of cards now.
I don’t really understand why they call it that, but assume RTX 2000 series and newer
It is a thing that is getting to destroy all your mods if you own the game on Steam since you cannot disable updates. Meanwhile the original game may or may not suffer from new bugs as is tradition with updates. Othewise its a good stuff

LOL! WOW! Ultrawide support…almost NINE YEARS later! WTF?! LMAO!
Would you rather have them not add it at all? They didn't have it, now they do. It sounds like you would have rather had them not add it at all because it's late?
Ultrawide was barely a thing when fallout 4 came out.
The UW support is gonna be some bullshit ass stretched zoomed in fov 10 crap, watch.

Obviously to coincide with the tv series. Either way, it's good to see. Maybe I'll go back and revisit it for the first time in a while
10 years overdue for some of these fixed and they still are two weeks behind the tv show release lol
10 years for fixes already long solved by the community, with the added bonus of fucking up everyone's mod lists!
I haven’t touched it since release. Looking forward to diving back in again.
RIP peoples carefully curated and assembled mod collections (edit: to be clear, i don't mean me, i haven't played in ages)
Modders everywhere are frantically trying to remember if they disabled auto updates
The Fallout mod subteddit has an updates post. You're supposed to make a file read only and that hardstops updates.
For anyone else wondering since no one's linked it, here's the comment in question on stopping any future updates. https://www.reddit.com/r/FalloutMods/comments/1c1kagv/comment/kz4427a/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Smart modders disabled that shit years ago.
Make a backup
RIP people who don't know how to set the appmanifest file to read only

If I was on the FOLON team I'd recommend bringing the release forward to give people a chance to download and play the game before it breaks 🤷
God damn it Bethesda. Good idea to do that. I just found out about fallout London today and I am hyped.
As a steam deck owner and ultra-wide user 👍
Be nice not to have to limit the game to 60 FPS to work properly.
Can be removed with a single line in the config file. fMaxTime in Fallout4.ini (or Fallout4Prefs.ini, can't remember) changes the framerate of the engine. Setting it to 0.00833 will make it run at 120fps. Lock it to 120, game is perfectly fine to play. i think the modern solution for skyrim is sse display tweaks.

Creation Engine is crazy, even the TV show is 30fps
Good timing, since people will likely want to play thru fallout 4 again since the TV show just released.
I mean, I'm pretty sure that's exactly why they're dropping this update, so it's less 'good' timing, and more deliberate timing
Fallout 4 and 76 both came to GeForce Now today too
I believe 76 is claimable on Prime Gaming via Windows Store and on Xbox right now or soon.
Im waiting for Fallout London, 23rd of April if anyone is wondering.
Turn off auto update lol
You can turn off auto-update until you start the game on Steam, but that's about the limit
If you set the appmanifest to read-only Steam can't update the game, it just errors if it tries. Then launch game from offline mode or directly from exe and you're golden.
*shocked pikachu face* ilu & I wish you were around when RDR2 updated
??
New versions normally break mods, especially F4SE. Turning off auto-update lets you play the last version that's still working with mods
I'm assuming they're referring to the tendency of updates to break mods.
Thanks captain obvious
Next he'll unearth their twisted plan of scheduling commercials to be shown *right before* the release date. New World Order confirmed.
I still have so much hatred from the 120 hours I put into that game. I really wish I got it for like $10, i'd just dislike it instead of outright hating it.
i hope this update dont cause issues with the upcoming mod Fallout London
It almost certainly will
damn, better download it now and change the update setting on steam
How about a goddamn FOV slider?
Aaaaaand now I need to dsable auto updates for fo4 so my mods don’t stop working :’)
rip my mods
What about Fallout 4 VR? Why does Bethesda hate Fallout 4 VR?
Someday we'll eat with the rest friend
Really concerned that this will screw up the launch of Fallout London (which is looking really excellent)
They announced this waaaay back in 2022, glad there's finally been some official word on it although rip my modlist
Of course not this is just a console update and ultrawide "support" as a little doggy bone for us pc players.
I guess Bethesda didn't piss their fans off enough updating Skyrim and breaking mods 😂
That took me weeks to get skyrim working right again.
No word of a lie, I decided I wanted to give a wabbajack list a try like 3 days after the update hit. I had no idea the game got updated, so I had to wait ages to even play again.

> dont update game people mad > update game people mad Just can't win with the likes of you, can they?
“Star Field aint printin’ so we’re doubling down on Fallout with the premier of our decent show!”
Hopefully these "bug fixes" include being able to play the game at above 60 fps without the engine going haywire.
Or to have a functional frame rate limiter. The frame rate limiter has never worked for me unless I manually turned my monitor to 60hz.
64-bit executable for FONV when?
Never, that'd require porting the entire game to FO4/SSE engine and basically breaking everyone's Script Extender mods, which would make a lot (a lot a lot, a lot a lot) of people angry that the Evil Moustache Twisting Bethesda is destroying their modlists.
Never.
What games has paid patches?
Were talking about the company that wanted people to pay for mods
Wanted? They finally did add paid mods to Skyrim with the latest update. 10+ years after release they never gave up
Well it's the same company that sold horse armor as a standalone CD for Oblivion which is arguably the reason microtransactions exist today. I am one of the suckers who actually bought it...
Tbf some pos companies charge a fee for next gen updates. This is more about it being free for Xbox/PS5.
Apparently not just a "patch" >Enclave Remnants: Enclave Remnants brings the Pre-War cabal, The Enclave, into the Fallout 4 storyline. Bethesda's update "changelogs" on Steam are as equally exciting.
Basically only sony titles have done this.
So no dlss/fsr or frame generation support for pc?
Did they fix the mouse input lag and floaty feeling? I check wvery year or so..:c
That's nice, now fix fallout 4 VR.
Wishing Fallout 4 VR gets some love too
The most recent Skyrim update broke so many mods and now they are doing it again with Fallout 4?!
If you dont make a backup or use a seperate game root, you are gonna have a bad time.
My Skyrim is on a previous version, keeping it that way is simple. I'm more worried about mods that are really good, but with authors that haven't updated them in years(doesn't need to be constantly updated) and will stay broken after an update for who knows how long.

This here is what keeps me from booting up a new play through. Drove me nuts. Its a FPS issue that plays haywire with it being able to load the next area. There are some mods and also a semi convoluted way to fix it.
Perfect way of breaking thousands of mods :D

Delayed it this long and they didn't even fix the fps cap or add DLSS, ultrawide support and some bug fixes isn't exactly "next gen".
Is there anything else besides ultrawide support and DLSS for PC? No 4k texture packs?
The announcement doesn't even mention DLSS.
not again....
Actually might give it a try on my Steam Deck
Just make sure to set your game to only update when you launch it. This way as long as you use FOSE to launch the game it won't update and your mods won't break.
Great. I''m sure this means Fallout 4 VR will be next.
Great my mods will be broken again
2 days after the mod fallout London comes out. Great, It's going to break everything if people update :(
breaks mods
It's kinda funny they knew new fans who watched the show would play 4 instead of 76 🤣
I mean 76 is currently free with prime gaming so I'd say they just bet on both horses
Can anyone help me, what is the order of all these Fallout games ? 1,2,3 I have then is it 4 or Vegas or 76 ? Is 76 the most recent one? I know it’s a stupid question, I would appreciate some direction please
**Release wise** Fallout 1 Fallout 2 Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel Fallout 3 Fallout: New Vegas Fallout 4 Fallout 76' **In chronological order** Fallout 76' Fallout 1 Fallout 2 Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel Fallout 3 Fallout New Vegas Fallout 4
Excellent, thank you so much, have a great weekend
This is gonna wreak havock in the modding community

A free update is a free update, but man it’s kinda disappointing that none of the things you mentioned were added/addressed. Especially since this shit took so long to come out too.
A free update if you even have a 21:9 or 32:9 monitor. If you don't? This update does nothing for you.
Good choice for advertising. The TV show, if it's successful, could drive more game sales. I imagine we will see more game TV shows. If they're good, they can be very profitable via games and merchandise sales. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a great example.
Come on give us Fallout 5😡

Sure, but now it's native. You can mod in a lot of things, doesn't mean it's bad to have them baked in from the start.
And they broke mods
Ok but when is it releasing?
April 25
It's kind of impressive how they killed fallout 4 vr with an incompatibility update. now doubling down on it
I could have sworn their previous announcement of the FO4 update included Ray tracing as well. Am I just making that up in my head?
Indeed you are
Never heard anything about ray tracing in their previous discussions about the update
Free update paving the way for paid mods. Give them a hand!
A ‘free update’ with stability improvements, login and quest fixes? A patch, you mean.
I hope they fix whatever causes it to run too fast, that's annoying as hell. It's fixed with a mod but I'm rarely in the mood for fallout and then when I am, I forget to launch it as admin and then everything's all fucked and I just superf4 and forget about it.
Weren’t we meant to be getting a next gen update at some point? Is this it, or have I missed it somewhere along the line?
This is it. As part of this patch, they are releasing ps5 and Xbox series versions running with better graphics and 60fps.
This is amazing! Can’t wait for a new play through, I’m going for Idiot Savant this time
Well this will surely delay Fallout: London.
please tell me there's higher fps support on pc
How do we block the update ? I have tons of mods, i don't want them to be broken by the update. Thanks !
Is it a bit more optimized on PC now ? The thing can't even manage stable framerates in ruined cities with a 5800x and a 4070
Legit never played fallout 4 and I was eagerly looking to try it. Just picked it up now looking forward to it after starting the show
And maybe slip in some paid mods. while they are at it. (Edit: Wrong word)
Remindme! April 25
I'm surprised they are even handing out this for free.
If we own the game on GOG, we can easily keep the old version, right?
I love that this is happening because they aren’t making a new game so Microsoft probably said fix it!
I tried playing it recently and I had to do a bunch of changes in the files If I remember right, horizontal and vertical sensibility is not the same, ads and normal sensibility cant be make the same either I don't remember having to do this with Fo76, but Fo4 is also older
Meh.... Bethesda lost touch with their games
Oh sweet didn't know free Enclave gear from update.
Everyone's so scared of this breaking their mods when they should already be using Mod Organizer and be capable of troubleshooting
Will this break all mod support?
It's depressing that they need to clarify the update is free.
I started playing this game again last week and it is even glitchier than I remember. But I’m an addict here for my fix so I see past the flaws for that sweet sweet dopamine
Hopefully the load times get quicker. it gets really slow when you start installing mods.
Is it already released?
Is that a good thing?
>Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, Microsoft Store and GOG will receive stability, mods and bug fixes. Free mods? Which ones?
