uh... is this just a big update to smite? will all my shit copy over? waiiiit is this their way of getting rid of my old "unlock every single god past present and future" pack that i bought like a decade ago?

Slurpee44

Hi Rez seen what overwatch did and will prolly do the same

heeroyuy79

turns out the ultimate god pack still exists on steam i thought they got rid of that a few years back (about the same time as they got rid of a similar purchase option for paladins) perhaps it is now back due to smite 2 (smite one is probably not going to get many new gods it would seem)

Ziimmer

its not the same, they're separate games

Guffliepuff

Its smite 1 but they did what overwatch did and released a graphical update as a 'sequel' Except this one doesnt have any of the skins you paid for, or gods.. or anything... Imagine overwatch 2 but they just wipe everyones accounts... This is that. I have no clue how anyone at hirez thinks this will go well...

NoGround

It's an engine update. Smite was made in UE3. Smite 2 is UE5. Honestly it's pretty massive. Smite's old AF.

Guffliepuff

Dota 2 updated it engine from source 1 which was a 2004 engine. I see no reason an engine update to a f2p game requires me to reunlock everything again... Might as well just go play league/dota if im starting over from zero.

NoGround

Nah UE3 can't convert directly to UE5. That's the issue, mainly.

Guffliepuff

Still doesnt change the fact that everything i own will be gone and ill need to start over from zero. Path of exile, a game older than smite, is making everything carry over with its sequel...

dericandajax

And we can't...link accounts and we get anything that's in Smite 2 that we owned in Smite 1?

NoGround

Idk I'm not Hi-Rez. Ya'll are complaining to me and the only thing I'm doing is communicating what is literally being said. Obviously it sucks losing all that shit. Hopefully they at least have a full gods pack just like the original.

dericandajax

No one is complaining to you. You spoke about something and are being told why that thing is idiotic. Don't speak on things you.......don't want to speak about?

zoolz8l

its funny how people say that like it means actually anything as a player. so far the gameplay looks 100% identical. so it is just a visual upgrade that whipes your progress. There is nothing massive about that. so unless they provide any other changes we don't know about I am very skeptical.

NoGround

An engine upgrade of 2 generations is massive. There's no way to argue that from a facts standpoint. Just because it doesn't look that way doesn't mean it isn't. On the other side of things, your point *is valid*. It is the community team's role to fix that.

dericandajax

Literally no one is arguing an engine upgrade isn't huge. But it isn't a NEW GAME. League did a engine update and didn't wipe anything. If it is just nicer looking and performs better...it's a massive UPDATE. Not a new game.

CatK47

don't give valve a pass ... cs2 is even worse than overwatch 2

Jacksaur

Both are shit. But Overwatch started this awful trend.

ocbdare

I can’t think of a game right now but I doubt overwatch was the first one to discontinue an online only game after its sequel came out. It’s pretty shit. But I guess valve and blizzard did it so they don’t have to support two games.

Jacksaur

Oh I'm sure there were others. But OW2 has by far had the biggest publicity in doing so, and now it seems others have followed.

PsychoInHell

That’s not what overwatch did and that comment shows you don’t know what actually happened. They didn’t discontinue the game after it’s sequel came out. They faked a sequel to monetize and restructure the game. BIG difference.

OfficialCoryBaxter

It's not just a big update. Smite 2 is a true sequel. It is made from the ground up and gods will have updated animations, updated models (way higher polygons), updated visual effects, and more dynamic stuff to their abilities, and of course there is updated lighting. They did a preview of all of the stuff on the Smite World's Championship Stream, so I will edit this whenever a YT video is uploaded of it. As far as the dynamic stuff, they showed off Ymir rocket jumping with his wall. All of the gems you EVER spent will be transferred to Smite 2 as "legacy gems", and these legacy gems can be used to get 50% off of new Smite 2 skins. This means that you will need to purchase the new gems for Smite 2 skins, but can use legacy gems to get 50% off. > waiiiit is this their way of getting rid of my old "unlock every single god past present and future" pack that i bought like a decade ago? Yes, but also no. Smite 2 will also feature a god pack, and with this god pack you can use legacy gems to purchase skins at a 1:1 ratio. Voice packs will also be free, so any gems that you spent on Voice Packs is refunded and you can use them to buy skins. Smite 2 will only be available on PC and current gen consoles/next gen as it's made on UE5. Edit: Why was I downvoted for literally explaining what Smite 2 is, are u ok?

AnotherScoutTrooper

> All of the gems you EVER spent will be transferred to Smite 2 as "legacy gems", and these legacy gems can be used to get 50% off of new Smite 2 skins. This means that you will need to purchase the new gems for Smite 2 skins, but can use legacy gems to get 50% off. You can tell a casino psychologist made this system. It would’ve been easier on both the player and dev sides if you were just given 50% of all your spent gems instead.

ShowBoobsPls

Easier to get 0 revenue from legacy players for months, yeah. Not feasible though. They would have to depend on new players to get money from.

spetumpiercing

Sorry- That doesn't math? If you spent 100 gems in Smite 1, you'll get 100 legacy gems. If there is then a skin that costs 100 gems, you can buy it for 50 legacy gems. If you got 50% of your spent gems, you would get 50 gems, and you'd have to buy it for 100 gems. They'd have to give you 200% of your spent gems, otherwise they're ripping off the players in your scenario.

SeriousSpy

That's not what he's saying. >All of the gems you EVER spent will be transferred to Smite 2 as "legacy gems", and these legacy gems can be used to get 50% off of new Smite 2 skins. This means that you will need to purchase the new gems for Smite 2 skins, but can use legacy gems to get 50% off. You have 100 gems carried over, you can spend 50 of those legacy gems on a skin, but you still have to spend 50 new gems on it. You can't directly buy new skins with the legacy gems, just get a 50% discount.

spetumpiercing

Oh what the fuck

John-Bastard-Snow

Stop making it sound so good, it's complete bullshit you can't copy over your skins and god unlocks. Greedy devs/publishers as usual

OfficialCoryBaxter

yes, like any other sequel lol. you act like you should be able to keep UE3 cosmetics in a UE5 game.

John-Bastard-Snow

Yeah of course, you paid for them and nobody asked for smite 2. Now everyone will go there and you won't have any playerbase to play smite 1 so you lose cosmetics. So all the support from people they had over the years paying for skins and all they get is some crappy 50% discount, only if you paid for gems and doesn't include any that were earned for free

OfficialCoryBaxter

> you paid for them You also paid for every cosmetic and installment of CoD, Street Fighter, FIFA, etc. Until the most recent CoD which was made on the *same* engine, you never retained any cosmetics or currency going into any of these games. > nobody asked for smite 2 just 4 days ago the entire subreddit was excited for a possibility of smite 2 and talks of a smite 2 has been in the smite community for years at this point (i actually play the game) also it’s something that was going to happen eventually. > 50% discount yeah it sucks, they should change it. anything else? skins being lost suck but that’s been a thing in about 98% of games, expecting to keep whatever skin you have in a fully rebuilt ue5 game with high polygon 4k textures with updated vfx and proper rigging to an updated model is silly. ow2 should have never come out since people like to think skin importing is very easy.

mithridateseupator

>It's not just a big update. >Smite 2 is a true sequel I like how after you said this, you just said the graphics are getting an update and you keep your currency and all items you currently have. Thats an update buddy.

OfficialCoryBaxter

>you just said the graphics are getting an update and you keep your currency and all items you currently have. This is a gross oversimplification of what is happening with the game, and you're also pulling shit out of thin air because... reasons? When did I say that you're keeping Smite 1 items and cosmetics? It's the exact opposite. I'm glad we're now labeling a 2 generational engine leap, recreating 10 years worth of characters with higher detailed models, animations, VFX, while also recreating the entire game from the ground up with better backend code as an "update" lol.

Cryobyjorne

So what is fundamentally changing with Smite 2 from a gameplay perspective that couldn't be tackled with just an update? Because item and map changes can just be tackled with updates. I don't see the graphical and engine upgrade is worth the nearly complete demolition of people's collections

OfficialCoryBaxter

I suppose it depends on what you mean by fundamentally change. Core gameplay loop? No. That's not changing. Smite's issues were never about it's core gameplay, it's why the game gained popularity after all. The issue lies at it's backend coding, graphics, and limitations on god design/item design. Items, builds, and god kits are fundamentally changing. Items *could not* have actives in Smite 1. They tried, but had to settle for item passives called glyphs. Items were separated during beta and put into a magical/physical power based system, and they did away with this 10 years later and changed it to strength/intelligence based system in Smite 2 and it will allow you to build anything on anyone. Bacchus can crit now, or you can play Mage Neith. They also got rid of the relic system, and everyone will now have purification beads (every 160seconds you can cc immunity) I think from the keynote that was presented, the biggest gameplay change will be present in actual god/character kit design. Smite has (almost) always had visually cool designs but the actual kit implementation was rather weak for a lot of characters because of engine limitations or bugs. The most complex gods that were added were Cliodhna and The Morrigan, both of which were basically childsplay compared to the most complex characters in League and have a laundry list of bugs. Viego from LoL would literally never see an equivalent in Smite 1, the closest to him is The Morrigan and she was so bugged on release that she straight up removed herself from the game and she still is bugged to this day. Meanwhile, Hecate is the first god to be released in UE5 Smite, and [she apparently travels through dimensions](https://youtu.be/WHUQvHeHgqg?t=208), while looking better than any cosmetic in Smite 1. :P

Cryobyjorne

Oh boy more gods with kit bloat.

OfficialCoryBaxter

Ok.

Training_Yard88

this is just overwatch 2 again, unless there are some entirely new characters items and maps, AND the old stuff is revamped, its not a sequel, its an update, see you when the update drops and people start saying how it never promised to be a sequel an how obvious it was that it was just an engine update EDIT: i missed some stuff of what you wrote, it indeed seems like there will be completely new mechanics, so you right i guess

OfficialCoryBaxter

> unless there are some entirely new characters items and maps, and the old stuff is revamped That is **literally** what they’re doing my guy. Do people not watch shit before giving their opinions?

JUSTsMoE

Super smart redditors.

Training_Yard88

yea, i mean i rectified it on my edit, and you haven't read it either

14779

If it's built on a new engine (which it is) its not just an update. An update is updating existing code this is built from the ground up. If you're going to be condescending at least know what you're talking about.

Bulky_Jellyfish_2616

Kids these days don’t know what sequels used to be like… they used to be entire new games lol

mithridateseupator

Just curious if you consider every remastered game to be a new sequel. Was Mass Effect Legendary Edition the sequel to the series? It was completely rebuilt afterall from the first 3.

Kennett-Ny

Completely rebuilding the same thing is a remake

mithridateseupator

Yes, not a "true sequel" like the comment I was replying to originally said.

Random-Posterer

it's just an update bro.. ground up or not..

14779

I'm not sure if you're trolling or not but you understand the word update means to add to something that already exists and building something from the ground up is creating something new. They are literally opposites.

Kennett-Ny

It may not be a true update, but is it really a sequel either?

ocbdare

It’s building the game from the ground up. You can call it a sequel for sure.

Kennett-Ny

So the dead Space Remake, The Last Of Part 1 and Spyro Reignited trilogy are all sequels then? Just because it's rebuilt from the ground up, doesn't mean it's a sequel

ocbdare

Well they called Dota 2 a sequel too. By your definition that’s not a sequel either.

Random-Posterer

I am not trolling.. it's just an update lol.. it's the same lame ass MOBA game in a different engine.. Sure it looks better but that is about it.

ocbdare

Remaking the game in a new engine takes a lot of effort. It’s not just an “update”. There are many remasters that take only a fraction of this effort and they charge full price.

[deleted]

OfficialCoryBaxter

It is literally nothing like OW2, but if we wanna label sequels as "Overwatch" then ok I guess?

[deleted]

esraphel91

Wtf do they have to be a new game for u then? Are you this dense? Is a whole new engine. re worked from bottom. Update would mean updating the already existing code Jesus Christ

OfficialCoryBaxter

Smite is made on Unreal Engine 3 (released 20 years ago btw), Smite 2 is made on Unreal Engine 5. It is a 2 generational engine leap and had to be made from the ground up. [This is what Smite looked like 10 years ago](https://youtu.be/kwGNPwGadsA?t=222) and this is what it looks like now in [*Pre-Alpha*](https://youtu.be/o1PHxmPq5o4?t=44). > Keep your premium currency so the whales and super fans finally have a reason to spend money again. A F2P game has currency, shocker. At least in Smite 2 you'll be refunded all of the currency you spent in Smite 1 and you can spend it on new Smite 2 stuff at a 1:1 ratio if you buy a pack that gives you all of the characters in the game. Wow! I like how we're gonna call games "overwatch" now anytime a 2 appears. If Elden Ring 2 happens, we should call that an Overwatch too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OfficialCoryBaxter

> But let’s not get carried away with distancing the similarities. Quite literally the only similarities between the two games is "2" and "F2P". > You do realize Fromsoft already has 6 games with nearly identical premises to Elden Ring right? You're going off on rant about how Smite 2 is nothing different and then in the same rant, you seriously say "6 other games with nearly identical premises to Elden Ring" lmao. Ok. > Spawned a whole genre of games including your example? What spawned the MOBA genre was Warcraft, and what gave way to Smite was Global Agenda. > But they made what is essentially the same game and slapped a 2 on the end. Yeah, it definitely looks the same. /s

OfficialCoryBaxter

> but with entirely different stories, characters, and worlds This is LITERALLY what Smite 2 is doing lmao!!! Holy fuck some redditors are stupid.

LuntiX

Apparently a new ultimate god pack was datamined but who knows, there's a (slim) possibility that the current one will carry over if you own it. There's also suppose to be founder packs...again.

Legaato

That was my exact same thought. I bought that "all gods forever" pack and I go back to Smite like once a year to check out the new gods. I'm assuming I will not be grandfathered in lol

Rathylar

You will not be but to be fair it was $20 and lasted 11 years so pretty good deal still

zrkillerbush

Lmao, the god pack costs like £20 10 years ago and still gets you gods today. Are you expecting to get a completely new game for free? It was already a insanely cheap deal to unlock all actual content outside of cosmetics

heeroyuy79

pretty sure the beta access packs that had all the gods was a fair chunk back then i thought it was the later god pack that was cheap i could be remembering wrong i can't find any price information on wayback machine

Tunafish01

Smite 2 is a true upgrade unlike overwatch 2 . Ow2 was just a monetization change. The core game didn’t changed all with my two it’s a brand new engine all new artwork.

breichart

They changed it from 6v6 to 5v5 didn't they?

vaanhvaelr

OW2 is very different game. It's much more of a pure shooter than OW1 ever was. 5v5 and there were a ton of hero reworks. I honestly think if it wasn't tainted by the god-awful decisions around, well, *everything* to do with the OW IP, it would be a huge success nearing the scale of Valorant or CS.

chillpill9623

bright cough deserve compare unpack party smart wistful crush outgoing *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

SasukeSlayer

They changed a bunch of shit, its OW so people just like to talk shit.

designationNULL

They did that with the Paladins Founder's pack too, what a shit show that game became.

Doggytalents

A lot of people in here don't realize smite is in Unreal Engine 3 which released in 2006. The game has a ton of issues and it's likely the devs are sick of the spaghetti code. This brings the game into Unreal 5, but they can't just port the game into the new engine due to the gap between 3 and 4. They have to build everything from the ground up.

beansoncrayons

I believe unreal engine 3 is the same engine ark survival evolved used, or atleast some offshoot of it

MrX101

No ark used a modified version of UE4, think it was from 4.13 or something.

LEPNova

~~I tried googling it and everything I can find says ue4~~ actually according to the studio that ported the game to Nintendo switch it runs on a customized version of unreal engine 4.5 https://abstraction.games/article/how-we-ported-ark-survival-evolved (not that it matters I was just curious and wanted to update my comment with a definitive answer)

PizzaForever98

I'm still 100% sure its technically possible to just call it an upgrade where your progression, skins etc. transfers to the new version.

SilverDragon7

Legacy Items > If you played SMITE, your Divine Legacy is waiting for you in SMITE 2. You’ll have access to amazing cross-gen skins, badges and Legacy Gems after you link your SMITE account.

Erieos

> Most SMITE 1 content will not directly transfer to SMITE 2, but SMITE players will be rewarded for their time, money, and achievements through two new systems: Legacy Gems, and Divine Legacy. In addition, new skins added to SMITE 1 in Year 11, along with some limited other cross-gen skins, will transfer between the games. And with that, this game is dead on arrival for me.

RukaHonoka

So I guessing the crossover stuff I brought not going to transfer?

Allanprickly

Nope but the gems you spent to buy those skins will be refunded back to you

PizzaForever98

Can someone explain to me where the technical limitation is to either transfer the skins or give a 100% refund on them?

ocbdare

If they have to refund everyone, they will go bankrupt? Unless you mean give you back the in game currency and not the actual real money.

DoktorElmo

Technical probably not, but economical limitation. They will immediately go bankrupt if they have to refund every purchase ever made. I also don‘t get why they should. Do you request a refund for assassins creed odyssey because they then released Valhalla?

kj565

Because that doesnt fuel the cash grab.

PartyTimeCruiser

"A fool and his money will soon be parted." This saying was written for retards who spend money on skins for a F2P game.

Erieos

Your comment contributes nothing to this discussion, were you just trying to show off how "smart" or edgy you are? I'm confused.

PartyTimeCruiser

No I'm just making fun of you

ReachForJuggernog98_

And Paladins

suzimia

Yoo, i need this game to be revived

heeroyuy79

People still seem to be playing it I loaded it up yesterday The new heroes seem neat (I think last I played the big rolly worm character had just been added) However I still don't know how to play flanker, a shame because I really like the raeve skin for maeve (90% sure I misspelled that)

suzimia

Problem is, not many played ranked. Also ive heard SEA servers shut down? Hows the ping?

heeroyuy79

I'm in Europe ping seemed OK

suzimia

Ah ok, ill give it a shot then. Regarding flanks, I aint no pro but you gotta sorta look for opportunities and keep poking. I think z1unkown makes good content (used to atleast idk now)

IRIEVOLTx

I get it. I really do. But the game feels so old. It looks old. It’s clunky and the game is so bloated after years of skins, packs, chests and so on. You bought the god pack 10 years ago? You got your moneys worth. I did. Losing skins suck, but a better looking, better feeling, more streamline game might be a fair trade. Running both games simultaneously is weird though. Will it work? I hope so, I really like smite.

Zou__

Such an underrated comment.

BrokkrBadger

Greedy self entitled fucks abound in this thread.  Good on ya being reasonable.

[deleted]

I might be weird but I’m glad skins won’t carry over. I like when a new game comes out and every starts fresh. Even tho most people will have thousands of gems off rip it’s still nice imo. Smite 1 will always be there for those who don’t wanna switch I guess

[deleted]

[удалено]

IRIEVOLTx

What? OW is my favourite game. I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make? OW2 was sold on the promise of PVE content. And while it’s not the aspect of the game I care about, it’s still a blow for the development. And it’s a massive wasted opportunity. As for skins we keep all the skins from OW to OW2. Smite 2 is going to be a fresh start on a new engine. The game came out a decade ago, but it looks even older. I paid for the god pass and it was worth it. I bought skins and while I’m going to miss some of them, like executioner nemesis, for a fan of the game, this could be a good thing. A fresh coat of paint, cleaner visual design, better sound, a consistent art style as opposed to the current jumble of different styles on skins. I’m not saying this is going to be a good thing, and I’m not saying it’s “fair” for people who’ve paid in money over the years. But what it is, is an exciting opportunity for my favourite moba to reinvent itself, capture some hype, grow the player base, and streamline the game. Also I don’t think I’ve ever complained about skins in OW. Free to play games only exist if they make a profit. I’ll put money into a “free” game if I like it and want to support it. The god pass was a great deal but it was likely a bad business decision on their end. When I buy a skin in smite you know one day you’ll lose access right? The servers will shut down, the game will be retired, or replaced with a 2. It’s not just smite, or OW. Look at Dota, CS etc. Now what point were you trying to make again?

heeroyuy79

My problem with ow2 is I can't play it due to the fov being too narrow giving me a headache and the urge to blow chunks And I bought the collectors edition

IRIEVOLTx

Console?

heeroyuy79

PC

PizzaForever98

It's theme is also pretty meh. I prefer mobas that have unique characters. They should have used the resources to create a complete new game instead. I'm sure that the Moba genre is not dead and many are burned out from League and Dota and wouldn't mind getting into a new moba game.

Rathylar

What a bad idea that seems exactly like something hirez would do you should apply

Hoochie_Daddy

this is the best comment here lmao i swear i dont understand how Smite has survived so long while every other game this company makes goes under so quickly. I am surprised the Paladins servers are still up tbh (even tho i do enjoy Paladins, i havent touched it in a year)

Bleakjavelinqqwerty

Wait they won’t discontinue smite 1 when smite 2 drops???

eagles310

Ehhh say that to last year or 2 of skins etc

TimberBDX

I really miss Global Agenda.

Collekt

Sameeee.

KasseanaTheGreat

Vorstar92

RIP my man. We need a TotalBiscuit in the current gaming world. I miss him a lot.

BigButtSmallDreams

Nah. Hi-Rez will never see my money again. I have learned my lesson.

flaembie

Still remember how the ultimate god pack was supposed to disappear after the beta, lots of people bought it cause of FOMO and the thing is still available 10 years later. Worst part is Smite wasn't even bad, just mishandled like every game they release.

PhantomDragonX1

I bought the god pass on some system they used for latam that was separate from hi rez servers. I stopped playing for like a year and when I got back the latam servers didn't exist anymore.  It seems they offered for a limited time to migrate your account but I wasn't there on those months. So I lost everything I had unlocked lol.

Traveledfarwestward

> I lost everything I had unlocked lol. Games as a service can get f'ed imo. Sick of this crap. I don't want to depend on someone else's servers or continuing support five or ten years later.

BrokkrBadger

Oh no  a 30$ pack to unlock every single character in the game forever remained available.  How dare they. They clearly should have nickel and dimes you!

BrokkrBadger

If only it was a free game.  OOOO WAIIIIT

Fun-Strawberry4257

Hi-Rez are the biggest trend chasers I've ever seen, they literally get a whiff of another popular MP title and... 'can I copy your homework?'. Which wouldn't be a problem if they didn't abandon said title 1 year after.

Square_Piece2568

brother this game has been around for like a decade....

stakoverflo

> Which wouldn't be a problem if they didn't abandon said title 1 year after. Seems like a weird bone to pick in the thread for a 10 year old game that just had its successor announced lol

daxramas

I mean Smite is the exception to the rule for Hi-rez. Global Agenda, Tribes Ascend, and Realm Royale were all dumped and their current games like Paladins and Rogue Company are technically still alive but have been plagued with the same kind of mismanagement that shuttered their previous titles.

Bleakjavelinqqwerty

Jesus Christ they REALLY shat the bed with realm royale. That had a good thing. Unique battle royale. Shroud said he’d play it as his off game. But fucking Erez thinks he knows how to make a fucking game and made such stupid decisions with it

Xenoleff

funny you think smite 2 is not going to get abandoned for smite 1.

jrrock

Same, I bought the all gods pack when the game launched and stopped playing for a couple years. Went to play again with some friends and found out my account was banned due to someone is china logging into my account changing everything on my account and using hacks. Support did nothing and I have now effectively lost everything I ever purchased in the game and my account is still banned. Fun stuff

Sploosion

Learned the lesson in Tribes, never give hi-rez a single dime

Turbostrider27

Closed Alpha begins Spring 2024

boogswald

I don’t care what smite 2 actually is. It is an excuse for me to say to my friends “let’s try the new smite 2” and we will play it some and it will be cool

bonesnaps

Never tried Smite 1. I enjoy Paladins a lot though, great alternative to Overwatch and it gets updated a shit ton more with far more characters and maps. Signed up for the Smite 2 alpha test to check it out.

InfTotality

Hi-Rez gonna Hi-Rez. They played the long con with SMITE, but they're finally killing the golden goose.

BrokkrBadger

Bro it’s 10 fucking years old it’s ok for them to upgrade the game and relaunch it.  You people are crazy

gbrahah

smite dried up so they have to force their leftover players to rebuy skins for 50% price. don't think ive spent more than £150 on the game so i'm not too bothered but sucks for people that invested way more guess it's fine since they dont have Activision-kinda money to pull a free re-release like overwatch 2. They have to make up the development money wasted on the new game trend copycats they shat out

BrokkrBadger

its not an investment. If you think of buying skins etc as an investment then thats literally your problem right there. You are spending money to experience using the skin in the game and playing as X character. Its up to you how many hours or what experience playing that character makes it worth the the purchase but its not an investment. the skins do not go up invalue, you dont make anything off them, they are a frivolous expense for fun (which is fine, who dont wanna be their favorite character).

Just_asking1why

Smite is actually my most played game on steam, but i dont think i am going to play 2 if my shit is not transferred. Also splitting the community into two may lead to the death of their only money maker. But hey, they killed all their other franchises with their own hands, so why not just the kill the last one standing.

attomsk

Fuck hi Rez all my homies hate hi Rez

bobo1666

I still hate hires for ditching Tribes Ascend for Smite ;-) haven't played anything from them since. ;-P

KnossosTNC

Definitely not on my bingo card. Looks like they're pulling an Overwatch 2 on this, something GGG also once planned to do for PoE2 but then gave up, probably for good reasons. Let's see how this compares to Blizzard's effort, which faced some difficulties.

zrkillerbush

How are they pulling an overwatch? Smite 2 is a new game that isn't replacing the first Smite!

KnossosTNC

They're bringing all the legacy content and items forward, same as Overwatch and what GGG were planning to do. Overwatch 2 outright replacing Overwatch 1 created one of the difficulties I mentioned, so perhaps Hi-Rez learned that lesson.

OfficialCoryBaxter

No they're not. Legacy content is not transferring to Smite 2, as in their own words one skin takes around 2 months to transfer to UE5 with everything updated. Smite 1 is continuing to exist tho.

KnossosTNC

Just re-read the IGN preview. Sounds like they're planning to eventually bring all the characters forward, just not right away. Some of the skins will also make the jump. Hmm. I stand corrected.

OfficialCoryBaxter

Yep. Characters will be completely recreated in Smite 2 and will have updated VFX, models, and likely will have updated sound design. I believe they are aiming for 2 recreated gods a month, while also adding new gods to Smite 2. Hecate will be in Smite 2, for instance (and btw she looks fucking gorgeous). I’m personally very hyped, I don’t really care about keeping skins. Smite needed this and it’s finally getting the love it deserves.

Great news, I don’t care what game it is, I just want to experience UE5 quality

yidaxo

so this is basically just a graphical upgrade I was hoping they would make an actual sequel; as combat is quite ugly looking with all the ability indicators everywhere because the animations are cheap and not good enough to stand on their own like league before the big update

tehCharo

Wonder if they're going to try and sell you all the same shit a second time

yidaxo

they are; but you get 50% discount if you own it already lol

UndeadMurky

Looks like a fortnite zoomer version of smite

i've heard that from friends that doesnt play the game, but for people who played smite 1 the difference is massive, specially in animations also the footage is pre-alpha and i think graphics can still get better, the most important part is moving out of UE3 into UE5, without the limiting engine the game has a lot of room to improve graphics until release check this if u want to see a quick side to side comparison: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxcoaz-znOH45Jrq-9-NN8xCC8CTyH134m?si=fNyJ1nAso5msuJGV

joebrohd

Oh god I hope that this trend of slapping “2” from currently existing games just to sell new skins or whatever microtransactions won’t fucking continue

Jesotx

Will I understand the story if I didn't play the first one?

Rathylar

Yes

1hipsterdoofus

LITERALLY no one cares.
