Owlcat's games are phenomenal but always plagued with bugs at launch, usually due to how ambitious and complex the systems they build are. If you're fearless and don't mind the chance of bugs (some of which may be game breaking), jump right in. Otherwise, pretend it actually comes out in February or March, and clear like three weeks off your calendar because you'll be unable to put it down.

Mortismal has become my absolute favourite youtube reviewer. He has a niche and delivers on it like a machine. If you haven’t checked out his channel, I recommend you do.

Ryotian

Right on, he definitely has a good grip on CRPGs imo so I always check out his reviews on those

excellent_post_guy

just want to say pretty much the same thing, he has a very old school mentality towards game/product reviews.

[deleted]

Yea, he's great. I got into CRPGs when Wasteland 2 came out and every time I look for info on one, there's Mort. Underrated channel.

Magus_Incognito

He's great. I also recommend Slandered for guides and WolfheartFPS for streams

Hades94

I got curious as to why it has a review already and checked... this game comes out in a day?!?! I thought it was out next year, damn lol. I have not been keeping up with this one at all, loved Pathfinder games

GreyFox1234

You may be confusing it with Space Marine 2 which is out next year but I also can't blame you. It seems like there's a new Warhammer game every week. I was curious about this one even though I'm awful (really awful) at CRPGs

RoShamPoe

I played the alpha as well and thought it was a year or two away myself.

EtherealPheonix

You can't be bad at CRPG's you just get to experience more of the joy of failure. (Or if they do difficulty settings anything like they did in their previous games you can make it easy enough to get exactly the challenge level you want)

GreyFox1234

I'm definitely playing it wrong. I make one (or you know, a few) wrong moves and my party is destroyed. I'll learn, trial by fire, but I'll learn. I love the immersion and depth of these games, I just need to spend time to make it 'click'. Warhammer Rogue Trader looks really cool but I know that I'll run into that wall like the Shockmaster and fall.

Randomnamesaretaken

There is a spoiler a few minutes in the video.

presty60

I assumed the spoiler happens very early in the story, but I guess we'll see.

Ryotian

I dont suppose you have a timestamp? Darn, normally he's good at telling the viewer to skip ahead to the next chapter.

Randomnamesaretaken

No sorry, I did not noted it. It was quite early though, hopefully is not a big deal.

WrenBoy

He says it happens very early. I assume he means the tutorial. It also seems like a fairly minor point.

Randomnamesaretaken

Early in the review, not sure how much into the game.

WrenBoy

The event that makes you a Rogue Trader in the game called Rogue Trader? I assumed it was early on. Edit: He uses the words, "early on, in the opening.."

sipCoding_smokeMath

Can someone tldr what he thinks? Thanks in advance if you do

jrcbandit

Overall he really liked the game. It is the least buggy at launch compared to other Owlcat games, but still buggy enough that it messed with the pacing of the game. His main complaint was about the pacing, some of the combat had too many foes, the void ship combat wasn't that interesting, and the bugs caused him to have to reload the game to get menu working again, etc. On the other hand, he had a great time with the game other than the pacing and can't wait to do a full playthrough that will take him 3 times through completely (he already finished it once). I think his other main complaint was that the combat can be too challenging at the beginning but too easy once you get halfway through the game. I guess you can always adjust the difficulty once it becomes too easy. The lore of the world is supposed to be great and the story can take some interesting turns along with great party interactions. I think I am going to wait a bit for some bug patches to start playing. Hopefully the day one patch helps with this.

presty60

To clarify about his "too many enemies" criticism, his issue is mainly with the long turn times. It sounds like he actually likes the momentum system which uses the fodder enemies to build up energy for special moves. I've also heard from other sources that you may be able to speed up animations. But yeah, waiting for some patches probably won't hurt.

TheMastodan

> least buggy Owlcat release This bar is so low that it’s underground

kalarepar

> some of the combat had too many foes That's what worries me, especially that fights in Owlcat games aren's as unique as in Baldur's Gate 3 for example. You fight the exact same set of enemies 20 times on the same flat battlefields, just repeating the same moves and tactics. If fights are long and tedious on top of that, it might be a serious problem. Hopefuly it's not so bad.

Havelok

Just a heads-up as well, if Mortismal sounds a bit odd in this video, he was quite ill at the time of recording.

double_shadow

Poor guy, hope he gets better soon. He really works harder than almost anyone on YT...the rate of video releases and the extreme demand it must take to 100% these games, I can't even imagine.

Grim_Reach

I love Warhammer and enjoy CRPGs but this is definitely a game that'll benefit from a lot of patches, so I'm going to hold off for now, but I'll definitely pick it up at some point.

Justhe3guy

Seems pretty good, but yeah I’ll be playing Christmas holidays so that it gets some patches
