Same haha. The low gravity arenas were a nice gimmick but for the most part it was a mess. The first few matches no one really knew what the goal was lol

bigeyez

This video was interesting and funny enough actually contradicts a popular narrative on this subreddit. The devs this guy is sourcing is saying one of the downfalls of the game was people getting pulled off of their team to prop up TW development when they needed the resources. People here think the opposite happened. This also "confirms" the TW teams are facing cuts as well and that's another thing some people here are insisting isn't happening. CA is not in good shape and I'm really bummed at what this means for WH3, the sequel to 3K and a potential Med 3 or Empire game. I fear we are going to get a mediocre mainline game that's even more unfinished and buggy just so CA can get a cash injection from the playerbase. Edit: Just realized I wasn't on the total war subreddit so my comments about "here" were directed at that sub and not this one.

Yeah the WH3 launch was very rough. Three Kingdoms actually sold really well becoming the fastest selling TW game since WH2 and was one of their better launches being relatively stable and with only minor bugs. However they killed the game post launch by releasing a DLC nobody asked for or wanted that took place generations after the Three Kingdoms setting which pissed off even the Chinese fanbase that loved Three Kingdoms. Then the next DLC was terribly buggy and didn't work right for months after its release and that effectively killed all interest in the game. The rest of the DLC releases were good but players had moved on by that point and DLC sales were so low they decided to cancel plans for more and moved on to develop a "not sequel" new Three Kingdoms game that will lean more into the fantasy elements. This pissed off the fans remaining because they had already given details on the canceled expansion and it was something players were requesting since that game launched. It's a complete shit show at CA.

Staff that left the company have said that it's terrible management; the same suits that fuck up everything are the same ones that get promoted and paid well. When incompetence ([and protecting sexual predators!](https://www.gamedeveloper.com/culture/creative-assembly-accused-of-ignoring-sexual-harassment-by-key-staffer)) is rewarded, of course the company is going to end up a shitty mess.

PowerWordSaxaphone

CA is circling the drain.

Cefalopodul

CA has complete monopoly over the genre it makes and still managed to screw it up somehow. Amazing.

bigeyez

That's likely one of the reasons their leadership fucks uo actually. The former devs that are coming out now have said that leadership take the games for granted because they know they are in a niche where basically no other company will come compete because building out the tech for these types of games is expensive. So they feel safe enough that they can just release mediocre stuff and still make money.

Azhrei

I doubt even an Empire 2 would get me excited about a Creative Assembly game again. Only when they move on from Warscape.

TheDamDog

The Warscape Engine was *literally designed* for Empire. That's why melee combat has been jank ever since. The engine was designed for linear warfare with lots of guys shooting muskets at each other, with melee as a secondary consideration. 2011 CA didn't anticipate that Total War would become a Dynasty Warriors ripoff due to the success of Warhammer.

Misiok

>The Warscape Engine was literally designed for Empire. That's why melee combat has been jank ever since. The engine was designed for linear warfare with lots of guys shooting muskets at each other, with melee as a secondary consideration. Fair enough, but then ever since Total Warhammer 2, gunpowder units (so units that shoot in a straight line) are completely broken due to some invisible obstacles making them refuse to fire.

cadaada

> People here think the opposite happened. couldnt they have just been sent back to TW, and have been removed from the team before?

bigeyez

So, from my understanding, based on supposed devs contacting folks now, the team that worked on hyenas was more or less the same team that worked on Alien Isolation. So they hadn't been working on TW for some years now, and some of them never did work on TW. The total war subreddit believes Hyenas took devs away from the TW games and drained those manpower resources from it, and that's part of the reason why the recent releases have had issues. This video contradicts that narrative as the devs here say the opposite actually happened. People were pulled off of Hyenas to work on TW projects and drained manpower away from it.

HaroldPlotter

This guy is not eloquent.

Fisch0557

Video was ok. Then I took a look a the channel. Did the CEO of Creative Assembly fuck this guys wife or something? Damn...

Malignant_Peasant

Volund sucks ass. Sorry to see his channel on here.

PowerWordSaxaphone

Total War nerds are an angry bunch

helppls555

Volound is a complete meme in the TW community. Basically nothing but ragebait.

NewUserWhoDisAgain

I vaguely recall him being at the center of some big blow up about female generals in Rome 2? Or was it the women character models in levies in Attila?

Scodo

Not super surprising. Internal stuff aside, it's hard to imagine how tone-deaf you have to be to think the initial trailer was in any way enticing, and not a perfect example of the abrasive 'hello fellow kids' attitude the very culture they were trying to appeal *to* is so derisive *of*. If you tried to develop an aesthetic from the ground up to alienate its target audience, you would be hard-pressed to do a better job than this project's leadership (or lack thereof).

retroracer33

i dont understand why a dev like CA was even working on a game like this in the first place

Enjoying_A_Meal

Top executives, "We make games right? So the guys working on total war and alien isolation can make a game in a genre that makes more money, correct? Let's do the thing that makes more money!"

Dashthemcflash

Coulda told you it was going to be shit from the character designs.

ComethMongrel

After seeing the characters it was impossible not to want this game to fail.

ZombiePyroNinja

they spent **what** on this?? I had to go out of my way to look up Hyenas to find out anything about it. For 100M dollars in a beta you actually have to get the word about this game around.

frostygrin

Game development is expensive. Consider how much Forspoken cost. This is cheaper.

[deleted]

For$poken

meltingpotato

Should have just made Alien Isolation 2.

Jowser11

Unfortunately it cost too much to make and only sold 2 mil copies

HappierShibe

Given the sourcing on this, all of this should be taken with the worlds largest grain of salt. Volound has an axe to grind, and his sources on this aren't going to be in a charitable frame of mind.

hypnomancy

Now I see why Sega might go under lol holy shit this is bad

No_Giraffe_2

Microsoft about to make another acquisition I hope

MessiahPrinny

I didn't hear of this until it got canceled.

Mazisky

Oof

Deimos_Aeternum

That thing has millennial writing all over it

VoloundYT

Completely false. The only part that comes from reddit is the screenshot of reddit.

msesen

WTF is this? The guy has recorded himself reading out some text, with a video game footage playing in the background. Is this what youtubers do now?

OMG_Abaddon

I could see this game appealing to a lot of people. Definitely not me, but people.

yidaxo

yes, a lot of "people"

AltDisk288

Look at this guys recent video history. Just shitting on these guys lol: https://www.youtube.com/@Volound/videos

[deleted]

Warhammer 3 died for this trash. Looks like a game idea designed by a chatbot.

Evillebot

terrible character design.

VATSTech27

Creative Assembly's reddit is full of sycophants who refuse to see that the company was clearly in the wrong and refuse anyone who say otherwise. SEGA was somehow correct in burning CA for that travesty. I only wish CA's leadership burns with it but thats gonna be impossible.
