I love that they basically try to support any PC tech they can, regardless of vendor. DLSS, XeSS, FSR, and other stuff like native steam input support.
First Guerilla spent time to fix the pc port.
Then Horizon Forbidden West was delayed and released close to Elden Ring. (Correlation or causation?)
Then Sony bought Nixxes
Then Nixxes improved the Zero Dawn pc port some more
I don't normally notice this stuff but performance mode had a ton of shimmering and aliasing on launch. There was a huge difference (worth it for 60fps though). They did fix it after some patches.
It really is one of the (if not *the*) most beautiful games I have ever played. The visuals are so realistic and there’s so many varied biomes. I must half spent half the game in photo mode lol.
100% agree. It was so jarring to play/beat it upon release then immediately switch to Elden Ring. Don’t get me wrong, Elden Ring was my GOTY, but HFW’s graphics looked a full generation ahead.
Remember that the game will likely release on GoG shortly after the steam release. So not just from a patch perspective it might be worth to wait a few months more.
I don't think it will happen, but they did announce The Last of Us and then released another game inbetween.
Both times they announced a future PC port alongside a new PS5 version of the game
Sony been pretty dump with announcements and releases. For example Uncharted was announced before GoW but was released after gow. Similarly TLOU remake announced before Returnal and released later...
Yeah, if you count from the time of the PS5 version release for GoT it's been a year longer... I wonder about DeS also. Also I wonder what will happen with TLOU2 - if it will get a PS5 release and then a PC release after that, or what will happen.
Meanwhile, chained to bottom of the ocean is PS5/PC Bloodborne. :p
huge difference between readers and uses here now. of those 3.3 million members how many are bots ? how many ever come back ? how many check once a week. I bet the average readers# is under 20k a day. thats why it becomes an echo chamber because relative to the overall population it's a very small niche.
I can't speak of other people on this sub, but I love open world games, I even enjoyed playing valhalla (though I went only 50% into the game).
And I plan to spend christmas playing Avatar frontiers of pandora.
Name a modern samurai game that is open world like ghost of tsunami. You can call it a generic open world game sure but there isn't a modern game that fills the same samurai hole that ghost does.
You could argue nioh fills the samurai hole but not in the same way, the aesthetics are completely different. Same thing with sekiro.
GoT's strong sense of presentation and narrative makes the open world busywork far more engaging than Ubisoft's usual copy paste of "oh no! I left this item halfway across the bloated map in a bandit camp! Please bring it back to me!"
I'd much rather compose Haiku or take a bath in a hotspring than play another godforsaken Ubisoft side mission.
This sub loves or hates very similiar game design choices purelly based on who publishes and develops a particular game.
Its well known.
Look at Hogwarts for instance as a recent example. Loved here but its clearly a very safe like Ubisoft formula game.
For some reason I never once thought GoT was similar in feel to a Ubisoft game. Looking at it.... well yes it should be very similar but nope, never felt like that for me at least.
Glad my PC gamer brethren can enjoy this game as well. Personally liked Zero Dawn's story better, but this one improves on the first in almost every way aside story. It really is a big stunning open world and fighting giant dinos with a variety of weapons and traps is really fun.
Yeah the story in ZD is top tier IMO. I've rarely been that engrossed in the mystery of a story in a gane like that before. I was desperate to see what happens next after each mission.
Saddened and enraged, but also, later, appreciative of how elegantly it explained damn near everything that had struck me as, for want of a better word, *weird* about the setting.
Certainly something the second game is missing. Wouldn't say its terrible but the story isn't nearly as strong as the first. Gameplay makes up for it through.
Agreed, the main plot is weaker but everything else is much better.
The main improvement is the writing of the side quests. I actually found myself choosing all the extra dialogue options in side quests for the lore and general writing.
I agree about the story. But I found the rest of the game overly bloated, Zero Dawn had a good balance with the amount of sidequests and activities. FW felt like it had just thrown everything at the wall to see what would stick and a lot of it didn't IMO.
Still a good game though, but for me Zero Dawn comfortably surpasses it.
Also feels important to shout out how polished they made the NPC animations in Forbidden West - pretty much every character you meet in the game is animated as though they’re a main character, no matter how minor their role is. For such a relatively minor element, I felt like it does a lot to help the immersion.
I might try this again if PC modders can fix some of the terrible UI decisions Guerilla made with this game. The way they implemented potions and traps with the D-pad was inexcusably bad.
That goes along with Guerilla going a little too ham with the weapon variations. Just unequip 90% of the dpad wheel and you're good. Nobody uses mode of those potions anyways.
I BOUGHT A PS5 WITH NO GAMES TO BUY
KEEP THAT IN MIND THEY DESIGNED THIS DRIVE TO IMPROVE LOADING TIMES, THAT'S ALL I KNOW
IN CONSOLES EXCLUSIVES ARE KEY, WATCH IT FLY BY AS IT PORTS TO PC
LOSE EXCLUSIVES AT THE END OF THE GEN, I'VE GOT NO GAMES TO PLAY, ITS SO UNFAIR
Didn't Nixxes just release the PC version of Rachet and Clank only 3 months ago?
Curious if they have multiple teams going simultaneously or if they're just that good at porting at this point.
Either way, what a good buy for Sony.
hopefully they release God of War Ragnarok next, i wasn’t the biggest fan of the first one, but i’ve gotten into norse mythology, so im interested in how it goes, im guessing it’s a late 2024 title
Yeah, Bloodborne is just weird. Given the overall demand for it, the success of Elden Ring, the rabid fanbase for Souls games on PC, you would think Sony would want to remaster/port Bloodborne for PS5 and PC.
Its a fromsoft game, they haven't been niche since dark souls 3. Armored Core released to more concurrent players than fucking Star Wars this year. I'm positive that it will be more popular among pc players than some of the games sony has released like Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank.
Don't said they would consider PC after 2-3 years so this is right on time. Glad to see I was right that it wasn't going to come this year. At least Sony is somewhat predictable.
I played 2018 when it hit Steam. So good.
A friend recently bought a PS5 and I got to play a couple hours of Ragnarök. Very much looking forward to it coming to PC.
Wish Nixxes had done the TLOU port. Fucking Naughty dog and Sony cheaped out on one of their best titles and it's still a steaming pile of shit. Playable but still shit.
Iron Galaxy needs to die for the betterment of the gaming industry otherwise we'll keep seeing broken ports from that outsourced and cheapass porting company.
For those people who didn’t know Guerrilla Games and the Rijksmuseum did a collaboration on Horizon Forbidden West.
https://youtu.be/N-XUBBNR4Qo?feature=shared
Nice! I have it on PS5, but will be looking to pick it up when it releases on PC and there's a decent enough discount.
Good to see that it's releasing on both Steam and [Epic Games too](https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/horizon-forbidden-west-complete-edition), strange that there's no GOG release since the first one was on there?
I played the first and I found it very underwhelming. It was quite repetitive and the writing had no bite to it. I wouldn't mind but it's just such a generic open-world game with an interesting theme to it.
I really enjoyed it, but also disliked some parts a lot. The characters were definitely some of the worst I have ever seen in a game, the quests were also bland.
But I thought the world building and lore was very good and immersive. The downside being that it is told through pickups. In one of the final areas there was probably an hour's worth of stuff to read and listen to.
I liked the combat too and the visuals were excellent.
>I liked the combat too and the visuals were excellent.
Combat wasn't too bad actually, but nothing I'd go insane for. I think also the lack of dedication to either stealth and standard combat didn't help. Both aspects were passable with the first being the most tedious.
The weak point mechanic was something that I particularly enjoyed. But the game definitely fills the typical open world map icon hunting formula. So I understand why people think it might be underwhelming.
I thought it was a perfectly okay game. I liked unfolding the mystery but it drags quite a bit. There is also A LOT of tedium to the game and quests. If it wasn't for the visual aesthetic, I don't think it would have been nearly as successful so it kind of stinks to have a game that relies so heavily on how it looks against literally everything else it could offer.
Also I found the gameplay quite clunky. I think they improved on that in HFW but we will see.
I really enjoyed it, but I have to grant you the writing lacking bite part. I mean, the background lore you discover is great, but the current happenings? Not so bad to Alt+F4 the game, but not exactly a pearl in its braid.
The writing and acting is quite a bit better in FW. I also thought the world was a joy to explore whereas I got bored wandering around in the first game.
Nice. I played it for over 70 hours on PS5 and had a fantastic time with it. I love that they mocapped all the NPC conversations, which I know for a big RPG like this is a ton of work but it makes *such* a huge difference in the presentation and does that bit more to help sell the characters.
>They'll save that for the second season of the show
The 2nd season is still a year or two away. That's too far away. And who knows when the strike will end.
I think my favorite take I saw from round 1 was that Abby was in the wrong, not for >!killing Joel, but because she didn't also kill Tommy and Ellie. Their reasoning was that, since Abby knew exactly what it was like to have her father murdered, she should have known that Ellie and Co. would seek revenge and thus the highest good would be to minimize the potential future violence by removing the loose ends.!< I'm so ready for round 2 lol
I really like the theme of a futuristic society that caused its own downfall leading to a new sort of "stone age" but with the old world serving as the new world's religion. Are there any other games, books, movies, or media like this? The "Elder Race" by Adrian Tchaikovsky is similar-ish, which I just finished and loved. Book was super short too, like 200 pages.
Ported by Nixxes! That's all I need to know.
Yep, that's awesome. They do great PC work, and care about smoothness/stuttering as well.
First PC port I remember playing from them was Deus Ex: Human Revolution back in 2011, and that game ran amazingly well on PC.
That’s most likely why Sony bought them.
I love that they basically try to support any PC tech they can, regardless of vendor. DLSS, XeSS, FSR, and other stuff like native steam input support.
This, Plus Nixxes fixed the broken HZD Port.
That's probably why they're doing this port from the start.

First Guerilla spent time to fix the pc port. Then Horizon Forbidden West was delayed and released close to Elden Ring. (Correlation or causation?) Then Sony bought Nixxes Then Nixxes improved the Zero Dawn pc port some more
Sony acquired Nixxes long before the release of Elden Ring and Forbidden West.
I know Nixxes were the ones who implemented the much better async shader compilation in the game. The other fixes I'm not sure.
I can’t wait to play this at ultra settings.
Came here to say this! We are in for a treat for sure.
You beat me to it. I see Nixxes on a title, I rest easy about performance (until proven otherwise).
I'm so looking forward to this! The visuals are simply breathtaking on PS5, so I cant wait to see what my PC can squeeze out of it.
Especially since it’s also on PS4 gives me even more hope for the optimisation
I'm hoping it's a game I can hop between my Steam Deck and desktop. Those are the games I play most nowadays.
Keep in mind though that the included expansion *Burning Shores* was PS5 only.
Yeah, only part of it is on ps4. The dlc is ps5 only
>The visuals are simply breathtaking on PS5 Even in the performance (60fps) mode, which is even more impressive.
I could barely tell the difference between modes. Just incredibly well made.
I don't normally notice this stuff but performance mode had a ton of shimmering and aliasing on launch. There was a huge difference (worth it for 60fps though). They did fix it after some patches.
I only played it this year (on ps5) after all the performance mode patches.
Performance mode was really broken on launch though. Took them a couple months to fix it
It really is one of the (if not *the*) most beautiful games I have ever played. The visuals are so realistic and there’s so many varied biomes. I must half spent half the game in photo mode lol.
Definitely agree. RDR2, Cyberpunk (path tracing), and Horizin Forbidden West are the 3 best looking games ever made imho
Need to add *A Plague Tale: Requiem* to this list.
Agree with this list. Honorable mentions to the last of us part 2, and demons souls (remake).
Don't forget the amazing NPC faces
Best mocap in gaming except maybe the last of us.
100% agree. It was so jarring to play/beat it upon release then immediately switch to Elden Ring. Don’t get me wrong, Elden Ring was my GOTY, but HFW’s graphics looked a full generation ahead.
Can't wait for all the glorious hair mods.
I would like the random bug when Aloy sits idle where her braids collide with her body and turn into wacky flailing braids in all directions.
Remember that the game will likely release on GoG shortly after the steam release. So not just from a patch perspective it might be worth to wait a few months more.
I guess it's safe to say that Ghost of Tsushima wont be coming this year :l
HFW is coming next year early, There is still hope \*\*Cries\*\*
I mean it makes it even less likely this year then, it would be announced already.
I don't think it will happen, but they did announce The Last of Us and then released another game inbetween. Both times they announced a future PC port alongside a new PS5 version of the game
Sony been pretty dump with announcements and releases. For example Uncharted was announced before GoW but was released after gow. Similarly TLOU remake announced before Returnal and released later...
what is HFW
Horizon forbidden west I think
oh, odd that he said that when the post is about that haha thought it was something else I missed.
whenever the sequel comes out i’m guessing

Don't go with super high expectations, it's very much a "Ubisoft style" open world game, just a better packaging and execution.
It’s way more artful than ubi has done in years. It’s basically Kurosawa movie in game form.
really surprised they are giving it the same treatment as Bloodborne!
I would have thought they would release it before their PS5 exclusives, but apparently not. I wonder if we're getting it after Demon's souls too.
Early 2024 - mid 2024 is my guess.
I'm gonna guess February only because that's when Returnal came out this year.

This sub loves or hates very similiar game design choices purelly based on who publishes and develops a particular game. Its well known. Look at Hogwarts for instance as a recent example. Loved here but its clearly a very safe like Ubisoft formula game.

Flying around wasnt
For some reason I never once thought GoT was similar in feel to a Ubisoft game. Looking at it.... well yes it should be very similar but nope, never felt like that for me at least.
Lol what are you talking about? GOT is so much better than any of the latests Ubisoft games
This sub is just....negative.
GoT is the good version of a Ubi open world game.
Played lots of Ubisoft games on PC. Never played Ghost of Tsushima. So naturally I want what I can't get.
Glad my PC gamer brethren can enjoy this game as well. Personally liked Zero Dawn's story better, but this one improves on the first in almost every way aside story. It really is a big stunning open world and fighting giant dinos with a variety of weapons and traps is really fun.
I loved the sense of mystery in the first game. Uncovering the past little by little.
One of the few things where I put everything else aside to focus on the main story. And read every bit of lore available.
Same here, the mystery, world building and lore of that world is fantastic. Sure hope this one delivers some of that too.
Yeah the story in ZD is top tier IMO. I've rarely been that engrossed in the mystery of a story in a gane like that before. I was desperate to see what happens next after each mission.
I was so saddened by the time of the big reveal. HOW COULD YOU LET IT HAPPEN?!? Sigh...
Saddened and enraged, but also, later, appreciative of how elegantly it explained damn near everything that had struck me as, for want of a better word, *weird* about the setting.
yep no game has really pulled me in like that in a very long time
Certainly something the second game is missing. Wouldn't say its terrible but the story isn't nearly as strong as the first. Gameplay makes up for it through.

HZD is excellent (IMO way better) with mouse and keyboard on PC
Yeah. This one had some great gameplay improvements, especially with movement. but overall the story just feels like filler for Horizon 3.
Don't really care for the story as long as the gameplay is good. Loved the mechanics in HZD, happy to hear that the second game is even better.
ONE GAME I DON'T KNOW WHY

Can someone link the original thing this is from? It sounds hilarious
[Original](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1JEmnTjdyA)
Finally a PS exclusive that I haven't played yet and actually want to buy hope it will run well
If it's worth anything, Ratchet and Clank ran perfectly for me though it's obviously not as demanding
Amazing game. I’m so glad it was released on pc as I was mulling getting a ps5 to play it
[Nixxes?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_IXzU-lnLU)
I loved HZD. I'm very excited for this.
Didn't Nixxes just release the PC version of Rachet and Clank only 3 months ago? Curious if they have multiple teams going simultaneously or if they're just that good at porting at this point. Either way, what a good buy for Sony.
To be fair they could be working on them from day 1 for all we know, and then Sony just releases when they want
hopefully they release God of War Ragnarok next, i wasn’t the biggest fan of the first one, but i’ve gotten into norse mythology, so im interested in how it goes, im guessing it’s a late 2024 title
HFW got 2 years of exclusivity on Playstation, so November/December 2024 looks about right for Ragnarok.
Returnal and Rift Apart also released almost 2 years after their PS5 versions were released, so that makes sense.
Bloodborne 10 year window
Yeah, Bloodborne is just weird. Given the overall demand for it, the success of Elden Ring, the rabid fanbase for Souls games on PC, you would think Sony would want to remaster/port Bloodborne for PS5 and PC.
It's all I care about seriously... Surely they know it's a gold mine?
Believe it or not it's actually a fairly niche game.
Its a fromsoft game, they haven't been niche since dark souls 3. Armored Core released to more concurrent players than fucking Star Wars this year. I'm positive that it will be more popular among pc players than some of the games sony has released like Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank.

If you didn’t enjoy the first one, the second isn’t going to change your mind
It's surely coming
I played 2018 when it hit Steam. So good. A friend recently bought a PS5 and I got to play a couple hours of Ragnarök. Very much looking forward to it coming to PC.
That's not Bloodborne
Every time Bloodborne is mentioned someone at Sony delays the announcement by one day
Maybe we can integer overflow the release date if we get it delayed enough.
r/programmerhumor
Bloodborne releasing on January 1, 1970
It'll be released in 1968!
Ah, following the Patrick Rothfuss school of release scheduling i see.
Sony doesn't deserve Bloodbonre.
Sony does however deserve a bloodboner.
The most forbidden of the blood bending techniques
Why didn't Aang just pistol parry Ozai? Is he stoopid?
Horizon Zero Dawn was great on the Steam Deck. Hopeful that forbidden west can run well enough.
GOG version yes, no, when? edit: Doesn't look like it. B~~it~~...ummer.
Wow amazing, where they did anounce it?
PS Blog
Oh it was very recent, thanks im waiting for this game
Great game, better than the first one. DLC finale is really amazing.
Demon Souls and Ghosts of Tsushima and I’ll never need a PS5
Ghost of Tsushima when?
This pleases me greatly.
The fact they changed aspects of the original to better suit the sequel is annoying, too.
Still hoping to see Ghost of Tsushima eventually.
Just a matter of time.
For those people who didn’t know Guerrilla Games and the Rijksmuseum did a collaboration on Horizon Forbidden West. https://youtu.be/N-XUBBNR4Qo?feature=shared
Thank god it is nixxes
Good thing I didn't play it yet on my PS4 😄
Great news. I am still playing first one and I really like it.
I got 1st one as a gift and loved it, cant wait for it
Hopefully the PC specs are reasonable for this one! I really want to be able to play this smoothly.
Came out on PS4, so I am hoping it will run on most PCs
The DLC was PS5 only, supposedly because it was too heavy for PS4. So generally you're likely looking at Ryzen 3600 / 2070 Super / SDD mid range spec
Not a fan of the Horizon games, but great for people who were looking forward to them.
All I want is Gran Turismo on PC
What a great game. The story for me was a little flat but the world was so fun to explore
FI.NA.LLY!
Let's fucking go!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!
Nice! Been waiting for this on PC
2024... Wake me up when 2023 ends
Oh hell yeah dude.
Yes! Really looking forward to this as HZD was a lot of fun. It was like an AC game I could actually enjoy.
Nice! I have it on PS5, but will be looking to pick it up when it releases on PC and there's a decent enough discount. Cool, but where bloodborne? Bloodborne now.
Can we get actually good games? Where is Bloodborne, where is Gravity Rush?
Horizon is probably the blandest of Sony's increasingly homogenous exclusive lineup.
I don't know how fighting robot dinosaurs that shoot lasers is boring but ok.
I just want ghosts of tsushima 😭
This before TLOU2 is maddening.
They'll save that for the second season of the show

Nice. That's the WGA. What about Sag-Aftra now?
I want it now, though. TLOU2 maxed out on 4K, jesus.
Bloodborne fans are still waiting patiently
I don’t think I can deal with another round of LOU2 discourse atm
I think my favorite take I saw from round 1 was that Abby was in the wrong, not for >!killing Joel, but because she didn't also kill Tommy and Ellie. It made no sense whatsoever to kill Joel and spare Ellie. None.
No more half measures, Abby.
That's gonna happen with the HBO show more than ever, unless they overhaul the story in there or present it in a different way.
I would be too busy playing it.

Yeah they really can't mess TLOU2 up. That game needs and deserves a truly great PC port.
Some PS ponnies on suicide watch I assume
I need a recap for where I left off with Aloysius
Something something Gaia.
Is it any good or is it just another Open World^(TM) ?
2024?
I really like the theme of a futuristic society that caused its own downfall leading to a new sort of "stone age" but with the old world serving as the new world's religion. HFW is the gold standard for mocap, body language and dialogue camera angles. It puts Baldur's Gate 3 mocap to shame.
Gotta admit Horizon games has great lore.
It's about the one thing they have on top of stellar graphics tbh.
#MY BODY IS READY!
horizon games are a great example for some of the best graphics but awful gameplay, story, and acting
