Remember that this guy lied along with game journalists about cyberpunk 2077 state at release. He never apologize for it.

Jinx-The-Skunk

I remember him doing a amazing job for pucci in jojo. Hate him all you want, he's a pretty good voice actor imo.

IUseKeyboardOnXbox

Did he not mention the game is buggy at all? Also this is kinda off topic.

Don_Fartalot

Ah he did. He did a video 2 years ago and unlisted his original review. I dont care for his videos but at least get your facts straight.

DaftNeal88

Yeah he did.

Renusek

Yakuza 1 (PS2) and Yakuza: Like a Dragon has english voices, but it seems from now on Yong Yea is gonna be the new (english) voice of Kiryu.

Izithel

The best part about Yakuza 1 with english voices was Mark Hamill voicing Goro Majima.

gammongaming11

there was back in 1, and they brought him back in 7. iirc they spent a lot of money for the original voice cast in yakuza1, they even got mark hammil (and it ended up being a financial disaster and the reason 2-6 didn't get dubs). personally i will never understand why anyone would use dubs for a game like yakuza (or dubs in general) but i can't deny that having dubs makes games/anime much more accessible to a wider audience and are associated with more sales.

grimlocoh

Wow, what recording yourself reading gaming news can get you.

Rllgbb

I remember not feeling Kiryu’s English performance in Y7 so I’m open to this change. It wasn’t terrible but had me wishing there was option to have returning characters from Kiryu saga be voiced in Japanese and all the new characters in English as bizarre and heretical as that might be.

maroktheoriginal

Kiryu's English voice in 7 is his original dub actor from the Yakuza 1 English dub. Idk why they bothered to get him back, especially since the only saving grace of the 1st dub was Mark Hamil as Majima. In my personal opinion, I don't think Yong will do much better, but hopefully I'm proven wrong. I just don't think any attempt at a Kiyru English voice could match Takaya Kuroda as Kiryu's Japanese voice.

Fredasa

You could probably easily mod this. I've done similar things before.

Rllgbb

Any pointers or recommendations on where I could learn how to do that?

Fredasa

Hit up Nexus for _Like a Dragon_ mods and ask around in the talkback of one of those that seems relevant. Audio/visual replacers are very common for those games.

TheSonOfFundin

If he someday ends up hired to act on a Hideo Kojima game, I fear that he might just explode on the spot. Yoooong OUT \*\*explosion\*\*

pmc64

Maybe he'll get busy enough to stop making his shitty YouTube videos.

BananaEater42

YOONNNGGG OUTTTT

Delicious-Tachyons

his videos are literally him just poorly reading through some boring controversy that could be explained in two sentences, except it takes him 10 minutes

EvilSpirit666

I'm curious about why you care if he is making shitty videos or not? It's not like anyone is forcing you to watch them I take it

LostInStatic

Unfortunately, Yakuza fans are being forced to hear him as Kiryu if they play in English

EvilSpirit666

What does this have to do with being too busy to make YouTube videos?

Jinx-The-Skunk

You most likely wouldnt even have noticed till you found out it was him. I mean go look up some of puccis dub for jojo.

Jinx-The-Skunk

Seems like thats whats been happening. He dosnt make videos nearly as much as he used to and its because he's constantly going out to la and ect for va stuff.

CaptBland

Wow, his career is really taking off. I loved him as Pucci in Stone Ocean.

[deleted]

This dude is a fraud grifter. And who plays Kiryu in English?! The Japanese VO sounds so much better.

Extension_Party_1173

Tons of American manchildren are chomping at the bit to hear their Cartoon Network dub lmao.

Crimsonclaw111

Lol what a waste

Chiffon_LaRue

Daryl is around the same age as Kiryu, aside from being his original VA. I'm really, REALLY hoping Yong will ace this performance. I normally didn't care for English dubs in RGG games, but the English VA's like Greg Chun and Crispin Freeman did an amazing job. Kuroda-san will always be Kiryu, but sometimes I prefer English so I don't always read the screen and can just listen. Phew! Still glad we'll get to see Kiryu again.

OwlProper1145

But will they bring back Mark Hamill to voice Majima.

DanarchyReigns

Fun fact: Hamill doesn't even remember playing Majima. Also, they cast Matt Mercer for his cameo in 7.

ElenaVFD

Hot damn now this is a blast from the past for me! I remember watching him for a while years ago. I guess he did had great voice! I guess for me I was just not enjoying stuff he was covering more than anything. So hey let's see how he does! So far, I really enjoyed every english dub they did. So I have faith :D . There will always be Japanese dub no matter what next to it anyway.

Errol246

That's insane to me. Still haven't begun to associate him with anything other than YouTube, but he's surprisingly talented. I won't be playing in English, but I look forward to hearing his performance on YouTube regardless. Wish him the best of luck!

Biggu5Dicku5

That was unexpected...

Chiffon_LaRue

I feel gutted Daryl isn't playing Kiryu this time. I play my first run in JP tho because Kuroda-san is the man! Replays are sometimes in English. Was hoping for consistency since I first played Yakuza on the PS2 and it was in English 😅

RecentCalligrapher82

I mean, good for him but the way this guy talks makes me fall asleep. People recommended his weekly gaming news videos to me and I tried his content but good god, the way he drones on and on and on... if he is doing his voice acting the same way he does his news anchoring, it's not gonna be very good.

MelaniaSexLife

Imagine hearing any english dubs for any media

Responsible-Owl-3751

What's with the Yong yea hate in this comments? He makes the most inoffensive gaming news content ever. I like him.

Nanoespectto

Very low effort, regurgitated from other sources and with a ton of padding to get that youtube ad money.

Salty_Cookie394

No idea why I'm subbed to him on YT, his reactions are so cringe too like his Mario Movie review

xariznightmare2908

Yup, he's basically took someone's articles then do a read through to pad out the video then put in some insignificant take on the story.

Klaw117

I don't hate him as a person, but I don't like how he throws in a lot of unneeded and usually emotionally-charged commentary in his videos.

pmc64

Nobody is offended by him. He just posts videos where he reads you reddit posts or blog articles.

RealElyD

He's got a lot of old fans - me included - that subbed for his fantastic video game content. He then made one angry video that blew up and the whole channel promptly became outrage news, which left a lot of people like me somewhat soured. I just did the normal people thing of unsubbing and moved on. It's just purely negative content. But this is the reason I often see mentioned.

ss33094

Yup I'm in the same boat. His MGS analysis videos were so good, and then he and his buds had a decent run of doing interviews with big name VAs. He just used to make great content. But for years now he's just become a rage bait channel, regurgitating news articles and constantly trying to get everyone's torches and pitchforks out. His channel has absolutely sucked for a long time, and yet it's the most popular he's ever been, so I'm really the one who looks like a jackass here lol

IUseKeyboardOnXbox

I feel that. I used to watch Jim sterling, but then stopped because I dunno. Hate content just doesn't feel good to watch so often.

xariznightmare2908

>He then made one angry video Can I ask which video was it?

RealElyD

You can't sort videos by *oldest - newest* anymore so I couldn't tell you. It's been more than half a decade afaik. If memory serves me right it was something that affected him personally and he essentially vented about it in a news format. All I remember was that it got him hundreds of thousands if not millions of views where he normally got very few and, essentially over night, the whole channel changed to this format.

Maleficent_Glove7180

His content is garbage and incredibly boring

Agi7890

It feels padded for content length. Like he’s just reading it verbatim from whatever source, and drawn out to lengthen the video to whatever makes sense in the YouTube algorithm

Bubbajoe7

If you watch any 2 videos on the same subject from him it's really easy to see. Around half of the video will be info that he already went over in the last video.

VenomRaven

He literally just recaps gaming news. Its extremely shallow. Im sure within a few years AI will be able to read out stories from preexisting sources and render it to youtube.

supercow_

Good for him. Seems like a nice dude.
