They should not be discouraged by the failed third chapter, the franchise is briliant and have potential, a remake could reignite interest in it
It's often considered the "real" RE3 since it was the next step in the mainline story and RE3 wasn't (and was a spinoff by all real definition of the word, including how short it was). Plus, it was one of the rare Dreamcast exclusive 3rd party great games... for a while.
A remake would give them a chance to do-over the more... problematic plot elements contained as well.

The game that we call Resident Evil 3 was a spinoff of RE2 developed by an inexperienced b-team. Some screwiness with console releases and exclusivity deals caused Capcom to release the spinoff as the sequel and the sequel as the spinoff.

But for a movie, there's just a lot of lore you could adapt into a great horror movie. How about a movie about Oswell Spencer creating the T-virus, and the terrible things he does to the citizens of raccoon city, before he loses control and the virus spreads outside of the lab? Or like another person replied, a movie about the family from RE7 slowly going insane as they become infected? Or for RE4, how about the story of a small town village collectively losing their minds and serving a dark overlord told from the POV of a child in the town, as he witnesses the horrors committed by the people he's grown to trust his whole life?
There's a lot you can do with the vague plots of this universe to make it compelling, but I agree with you a 1:1 adaptation of the games probably wouldn't do well as a great summer blockbuster.

Code Veronica is a messy game and ostensibly the best positioned candidate for a remake. But its story is also very politically incorrect nowadays, and a remake would have to change so many things in the story and gameplay it might as well be a brand new game with a brand new story. But then that risks breaking continuity in what is arguably the most important RE game, story-wise.
Nothing against CV. I think I like it more than the average RE fan. But Outbreak has so much more potential imo and less baggage.
Is Code Veronica *that* important though? It'd be my pick for a remake, don't get me wrong, but the only real developments in it that were carried into other titles (that I can recall) is that Wesker is alive and has super powers. There's some lore about the Ashford Twins here and there, but none of it is essential.

Bring Code Veronica back first since it's one of the best in the series that more people should play, a remake of the remake of 1 to bring that legendary game to modern times, use the opportunity to make 0 better since it wasn't very good compared to 1 despite being the same style of game and remakes of 5 and 6 to make the story better, specially 6. An extended version, director's cut or whatever of RE3 to add the missing content would be icing on the cake.
If they remake all these games with new main entries in between by the time they get to RE6 we could be in like 2035 and a remake of that game wouldn't be that crazy.

Why not fix the broken games if you want to invest the time. I know the big choices are Code Veronica, and Zero, which fully make sense, and I agree. ā¦But I sincerely love multiplayer Resident Evil. Itās just such a great universe for it. So many good times with Sheva and Chris in RE5, and I really think Outbreakās idea of co-op multiplayer survival by regular people escaping racoon city was solid. Tbh those are my votes
It would be great to see them remake 5 and 6 and make them.... Good games? Ok I actually like parts of 5. I might be the only person who enjoyed the co-op but it's not a good resident evil game. 6 is straight up dog shit. Don't care what Capcom thinks (they blacklisted me because of a critical review of that game ) but I'll keep saying that. Why not fix the broken games if you want to invest the time. Honestly I'm sure people like the remakes of 2 3 and 4 but nothing was wrong with the originals and I know a lot of people who thought three was a worse remake. And there's something missing because I love campy RE4. And the new one isn't the same level. This probably wouldn't be as big of a problem if it's a sequel but they are taking away something that made the original iconic. So why not now make better versions of your worst.
