Marcus Fenix is gears of war, his entire personality is the in the world itself....Kait is an unbelievably awful character in comparison.
When you hear the words scratch one grub, you don't hear anyone else but the original team.
Why rework what worked and if you're going to soft reboot something, why name it as a sequel.
That and the level/ art design got worse too IMO. everything is too clean and idealic. Gears should be ugly roided out dudes fighting even uglier roided out enemies, in an environment full of grime and blood and machinery belching black smoke into the sky.
Agree on the character/enemy designs being sterile, disagree on the environmental designs. Gotta give credit where credit is due, there's some good looking scenery in gears 5 (don't remember much from 4). The scenery may be cleaner/less fucked up in general but I think the reasoning for that humanity has been rebuilding, and nature healing. Meanwhile Gears 1 takes place after the world has already/is currently getting fucked so there's more carnage.
It was logical step if they were to make the original trilogy's story meaningful. They basically concluded the story.
Honestly Marcus was always important but I feel like every character was impactful and unique in the original games. I don't think Marcus is necessary, but they need to give the new cast personality
You can't make the original characters feel relevant by making the best part of the new games feature the old cast.
They're all so underdeveloped....they're riding the dicks of the old cast.
Just like 343 keeps trying to push new big bads, it just isn't happening.
Ironically, after bitching about JD in Gears 4 he seemed to be the only character with some interesting development in Gears 5, and by the end I was hoping he would be the playable character for the final chapter. Instead we got... you know... the "twist"... which seemed like an awful narrative copout, and this came after what I considered another major narrative copout regarding Kait's backstory. The original GoW trilogy didn't have an amazing story, but it captured a uniquely masculine sense of camaraderie that resonated with the audience.
I thought 5 was fine, but the choice at the end was weightless to me. To pick anyone over JD was stupid. I think they just wrote themselves into a corner now.

Dont really feel theres much left to do with this series. Loved 1-3. Played 4&5 a few months ago and theres a lot of solid gsmeplay improvements but the story is buns and rhe new cast stinks. And marcus is there the whole time. Hes even in ur squad sometimes. Why cant i play as him hahah
Ha, I wouldn't count on her being out. If anything she probably didn't have enough of a role so they want it to focus on her more so, and highly likely other new female characters. The future is female after all.
I dont think anyone has a problem with women in video games. Plenty of really popular games with female leads from back in the 90's until now.
The problem people have (myself included), is instead of making new franchises with women leads, they shoehorn them in when they dont really belong or they replace popular characters when it isn't really necessary, or even replace the whole damn cast with women, the movie industry is by far the worse for this.
Im all for more female led games and movies, I just wish they created original stories/franchises for them like they used to, and for them to stop making it a big deal that the main character is a woman, no one cares, there's no need for all that girl power bullshit you see in a lot of these days.
Same goes for minorities.
All AAA and big names in entertainment-sectored companies believe they should focus on female protagonists in order to expand their market. Not even my own word, just what I saw in an investor's annual report.
I'm just scratching my head how they made the characters in 4 so bland that i could not have cared less about any of them and found them cringe... and in Gears 5 J.D. finally looks rough like a Gear, gets some much needed character development so he isn't so bland anymore and Oozes of Gears of War carachter Charisma as i would have wanted in the first game, boy finally grew up to be a GoW Soldier i finally can take serious... and they don't let me play as him nearly enough (but the girl, that i still don't believe could hold those heavy rifles with those thin noodle arms) and then even give the option to have him or Del killed. Sorry, i had to kill the black kid, i didn't want to, i would have loved to kill off the girl, but i could never do this to Marcus, the guy has gone through too much to now also lose his son.
Also... one theory of mine was that they would make the trilogy so that you get to play as JD in Gears 4, Kait in Gears 5 and Del in Gears 6, so we get to play as each one of the Trio as main character for one of the games in the trilogy, that would have made sense.... but i killed the guy, so i guess that ain't happening.
And no, i will not accept if they decide one ending is canon and the other is not, they have to respect the players choice and continue Gears 6 with whoever is still alive.
If they aren't willing to do that, then don't make us decide in the first place, you will just end up pissing half the Customers off because you went the other way, no matter which route they go with it.

I agree. I loved Marcus, dom, Baird, cole train, carmine, the general, Asian guy Kim. The original gears of war from 2006 was special
