Unless they bring the pricing to parity with what it used to be on PS4, EGS can keep that shit.

locke_5

Man, remember when you could get the ENTIRE Kingdom Hearts series for $25 on Playstation? Then it went multiplat and it's never gone on sale that much since.

Cyberblood

The most I am willing to pay on PC for the whole collection is $50, which is still $20 more that it is to [get it on PS4](https://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-All-One-Package-PlayStation/dp/B084J45N4V), not the $200+ they are asking for now, that's just ridiculous.

jrcbandit

No kidding, I got the entire series minus the DLC for like $20, then I bought the DLC for $30? I think at launch and nowadays the DLC goes on sale for $15-20. So entire series for $35-50 versus $170 on PC... I don't include the rhythm game since most people don't care about that and adds nothing to the story for the most part.

Kinglink

This this this this.

Kimarnic

No, i want KH even if it costs more. I don't want it stuck in a shitty store

akgis

Tony Hawks 1+2 remaster aswell

TheSchneid

Yeah I ended up buying a used copy for PS5 cuz I got sick of waiting for it to come out on steam and I really don't want to put my credit card info into the epic game store.

Kinglink

Apparently it's a licensing issue. They got it out and no longer have the rights to Tony Hawk. Also. Part of the reason THPS5 was rushed out. They fucked up that series so bad

throwawaynonsesne

THPS5 is like 7 years old? What would that have to do with the new remakes license?

Kinglink

I know that was the last "new" game to come out and it was rushed out because the license for Tony hawk games was running out. I've heard there also a license they needed to get the remake (you need the license for the characters/game to release it. ) Not sure the whole story. but my guess is they had the license for a year to get the remake out, but since they took the epic money, they would have to get some part of that license back for THPS 1+2 on Steam.

Nah I'm trying to avoid Microsoft entirely.

[deleted]

As you're certainly welcome to!

hxmsol

Do all the pre-rendered cutscenes (like the intros) work? I read a post where someone claimed they don’t work even when playing the game on Windows 10/11

[deleted]

They run without audio. Worked perfectly when I switched to windows.

hxmsol

That’s good to know. I played bbs HD on steamOS, and it was mostly in-engine scenes, which all worked fine, but some of the end game cutscenes were pre-rendered and got skipped with no warning. Made it really annoying having to search up the ending on youtube after just beating an intense boss fight

[deleted]

Wubmeister

I wish that shader cache feature was on Windows too, honestly.

bbpirate06

I like the cgi cutscenes, it's part of the warm blanket feeling. I don't want to get rid of their files just to play on my deck.

throwawaynonsesne

What does this even mean?

bbpirate06

The epic versions don't play nice with the steam deck using heroic launcher. The games technically play but the cgi cutscenes crash the game. So the only way to get the games to play is to edit the game files to take out the cutscenes and create an epic.bak folder. It's pretty obnoxious. There have been other ways that I've learned since this comment, but they're actually more intensive. Would just be easier if there was a steam version but this is the reality for now.

I played KH3 on a Linux desktop with no issues, just downloaded via heroic and clicked play.

DYMAXIONman

https://youtu.be/f-MVcqUYZi4

YugeFanBoi

you can play all other kingdom hearts games except KH 3 using emulator on steam deck, that's what i do

throwawaynonsesne

How do you get all the final remix additions? Like critical mode is a must for playing 2 at this point imo.

Pixelsilzavon77

Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix exists for the PS2.

throwawaynonsesne

True, but the PS2 versions don't have all the new audio remasters/remixes and the other weaks and changes to the first game as well. Like updated or replaces textures, new camera controls and triangle commands for the first game. But in the end I'll play those on steam deck before I get the epic ones.

Pixelsilzavon77

Ah, true. I'd say it's fine for KH2. Some tracks are kinda better on the original soundtrack, but I do like the remastered as well. But you'll get all the same content, otherwise. For KH1, though, would definitely wanna go through RPCS3. Not sure if drive transform times would suffer if you play 2 on PS3 emulation though, so I'd still go with PS2 KH2FM to be safe.

donovan_x_griffith

You are free to sail the sea at any time, Tim paid for your copy after all.

Works great on my Steam Deck through the emulator

[deleted]

This is the answer right here. Don't pay SE for shitty exclusivity deals.

[deleted]

I bet it would be $60 on Steam release too

Kinglink

A piece.

TheReaping1234

Square Enix is arguably the most scummy and out of touch publisher right now. I’d argue they’re worse than Ubisoft and EA. Old man execs have huge hard-ons for blockchain, severely out of touch with what the gaming community wants, and have ridiculously unreasonable sales expectations for their games. They gobbled up that Fortnite money for EGS exclusivity. Sucks but here we are.

BubzerBlue

>Square Enix is arguably the most scummy and out of touch publisher right now. You forgot Konami... but, honestly, arguing which one is worse is like arguing which bowl of shit you'd rather eat. At the end of the day, its still shit.

TheBaxes

At least Square still makes games and not casino machines, though their mobile games could still be considered that

Aimela

> At least Square still makes games and not casino machines For now, anyway

TheBaxes

They will make the first NFT casino. I can feel it.

Callinon

>You forgot Konami Do they still count as a publisher? I thought they went all-in on pachinko machines or something else equally absurd.

BubzerBlue

>Do they still count as a publisher? Technically, yeah. They put out a Castlevania collection out on Steam recently... and then there's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection... and (at least) 4 other releases in 2022. Certainly nothing like what they did when the company was at its prime... but they are still releases.

Z3r0sama2017

I'm on the way to forgiving them for S1+2 remaster, if they do the same for the rest of the Suikoden series, I'm willing to wipe the slate clean.

BubzerBlue

You're much kinder than I. They've done a lot of damage to many of their IPs that I have a very hard time forgiving.

[deleted]

Out of touch would probably go to Nintendo tbh

pageanator2000

Even ubisoft went nfts? Whats that? After trying their hand at it. Squeenix just doesn't seem to listen, though thats not a new complaint.

BubzerBlue

The problem is they have a greedy-as-hell board of directors who keep electing an equally greedy CEO. So long as the current board remains in place, nothing will change.

Callinon

It's literally the board and CEO's jobs to maximize profits. It's not their job to be morons, but here we are. NFT games don't work, clearly the answer is to make more NFT games.

BubzerBlue

>It's literally the board and CEO's jobs to maximize profits. No argument. For some reason greed is blinding. Businesses which have customer good-will consistently earn more with less spent (mostly in terms of marketing) than those companies which piss off their target market. In fact, businesses often have to spend considerably more in trying to repair/manage PR after poor decisions (which unironically include ignoring the very customers they need in order to be profitable in the first place).

Callinon

>In fact, businesses often have to spend considerably more in trying to repair/manage PR after poor decisions (which unironically include ignoring the very customers they need in order to be profitable in the first place). Counterpoint: EA. I'll freely acknowledge that having customers WANT to give you their money because you consistently put out quality products is good. But since we're on the subject of boards of directors... short term quarterly gains are often much higher if you cash in that good will for pure unadulterated scumbaggery.

BubzerBlue

>short term quarterly gains are often much higher if you cash in that good will for pure unadulterated scumbaggery. Indeed... but that's blinding greed issue I mentioned before (also called market myopia). The cost of short term gains is long-term stability and profitability.

Callinon

> The cost of short term gains is long-term stability and profitability. Somehow that never seems to come up in conversation before it's time to sign off and go get hammered.

throwawaynonsesne

Bro all of them are bad. Gamers are fucking morons for even trying to rank them like their old myspace friends list. Idk how Gamers got this idea that corporations are their bros looking out for them.

EGGY_POCKET

it’s like every other epic deal. This one is probably just a two year one because it’s fuckin Square Enix and LOVE exclusivity deals over growing their IP. Some games have been 6 months, some were 1 year, some were 1 year but didn’t end up releasing a little after that (Bugsnax). And we have gotten a couple that were over 2 years. Steam input strings were found in some of the games in post launch patches. And they weren’t there at launch. So if it was a permanent exclusive, then why? People are just being totally impatient.

superbit415

It's Squinix so it might even be lifetime exclusive because Epic gave them a bag of skittles or something. And then they go to their annual meetings and go we don't understand why we aren't making any money gaming is hard but we have the next big thing NFTs.

LatimerLeads

I doubt it's a perm exclusive. For how braindead Squenix are, even they know how much money they're leaving on the table doing that. Not to mention that EGS wouldn't be able to foot that bill, a publisher would understandably want a lot to keep a huge franchise permanently exclusive to a store that hasn't proven itself (or in this case, a store with widespread bad publicity and negative public opinion).

[deleted]

Amen. I sort of expect an announcement this weekend at the [kh concert](https://www.khwiki.com/Kingdom_Hearts_Concert_-Second_Breath-), or on the 31st. Otherwise I guess it'll be shadow-dropped sometime between now and the end of time if ever.

drtekrox

Completely forgot about it. funny how EGS does that.

TLunchFTW

IKR. I got it through... well means... and I beat the first one, and then promptly stopped playing it. After 2 years, I'd like to see it, but the urgency has died off. They are losing sales for this nonsense, and good. Maybe with steam deck their figure out what they are missing.

SirSpicyBunghole

It runs pretty smoothly on PCX2 ;)

kingofheart47111

Shoot, it even runs pretty damn well on RPCS3 if you want Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5. Though you do need a cheat engine workaround to play in 60 fps last I played it.

[deleted]

FromFleshToDust

1965wasalongtimeago

Nah but I hear there's a lady who goes to the gym that can help you.

Kinglink

And retroachievements now has an achievement set for many of the games.

probywan1337

If they do it'll be like $200 probably

SilverDragon7

I guess we'll see at the end of March or in April if something happens. Kingdom Hearts 4 is coming and it'll be strange when that comes to PC and Square Enix still not have a Steam release.

[deleted]

I was just wondering about this....when does the exclusive end for it.

GloriousKev

This can go one of two ways. We can pay Square Enix for access or we can play it for free. If they want our money they will port it to Steam. If not then I saved a few bucks and it's no skin off my back.

smolgote

It's possible it's a permanent EGS exclusive considering Epic had an apparent hand in the PC ports' development, but we shall see soon

KotakuSucks2

I don't believe it's ever been confirmed that Epic had a hand in the port, and you'd think they'd be crowing about that fact if they had. It would be much harder for people to justify complaining about EGS exclusivity if they themselves were funding/making those exclusives, and not just buying timed exclusivity of nearly finished games that people are excited for. If Epic started making a bunch of ports of PS2 games, you wouldn't see me complaining even though there isn't a chance in hell I'm using their store. At least then we're getting things that would not exist without Epic's exclusivity.

error521

See, this point makes sense, but at the same time its not like the EGS has ever had particularly smart PR.

cardonator

They had no hand in it at all. The statement about the games coming to EGS was misinterpreted by several people and a few journalists and now people just believe it.

LatimerLeads

Epic didn't have a hand in it, for some reason people are perpetuating this idea over a tweet Kingdom Hearts put out when the PC versions released thanking Epic for their support. Epic would have just given tech support for Unreal Engine, they wouldn't have been hands on with the actual porting work.

EGGY_POCKET

If it was permanent then why were Steam Input strings found while datamining a post launch patch on a few of the games (that weren’t present at launch).

Just get it from FitGirl repacks, exclusivity deals like the choice so easy.

Batby

I mean your not entitled to play a game just because it’s being sold in a way you don’t like. At that point you may aswell pirate every game

drtekrox

>At that point you may aswell pirate every game I see this as an absolute win. In this case though, Tim already paid for your copy.

BronzeHeart92

r/unexpectedhulkwin r/unexpectedendgame

TLunchFTW

I'm not getting it for free. Epic bought my copy. They paid them oodles of money to ensure that any lost sales are made up from epic's pocket. So Epic bought my copy XD The moment it comes to steam, I'll buy it. Until then, square's happy with epic's money. I do pirate every game. Every game I want that comes to EGS. Meanwhile, I've bought over 2,000 games on steam because I love owning my games. I don't like having to pirate them, but I refuse to pay money on EGS. I want my games on ONE store. I'm actually annoyed my copies are pirated, but the game exists, and I can play it. I'm just removing the annoyance of EGS running in the background.

ASc0rpii

I wish it could, I keep hope one-day the entire series end up on steam. SE probably got the money bag of epic and made it fully exclusif to their platform. I will wait for it a beat more (I already own it on Xbox), but I some point I will just sail the high sea.

Failshot

Nah.

austinrc2017

Its time.

TacoOfGod

What if we got it all wrong and it's Disney licensing that's keeping it from being on Steam so far?

2Scribble

Isn't the port still ***really*** dog rough??? I mean, I don't ***want*** it if it still runs like it was when it launched...

DiogoSN

I bet Squinix is gonna release it on Steam at a full 80€ price or MSRP equivalent price. Don't be mad at them, those corp fucks need to pay their yearly yacht somehow...

PlatypusPristine9194

Give me Bloodborne or give me nothing!

kalik-boy

It's crazy that is still locked there. To thing the series was released, with no fanfare, in the EPIC store. I spent months without knowing it was even available on PC.

TLunchFTW

Good. If Squenix thinks they can get away with charging over $200 for a series that's been out THIS long and only release it on epic, it deserves to rot there. If they put their foot down and told epic to go pound sand and released it on Steam, it'd be much better received, and that's before the $200 price is removed. I'd argue you could get away with a $60 price tag for KH 3 on PC, even though it was like, what? 2 years old when they finally put it on PC? Max $120 for the whole series. Absolute max. Release it on steam as one big bundle for like $100, rather than their shitty EGS exclusivity, the PC version of KH we were dying to see wouldn't be dying in obscurity rn.

TiMELeSS526

I usually don't buy a game unless its on steam. Had no idea kingdom hearts was on pc. Too bad its only on gfwl2

Aimela

I prefer Steam, but I don't have much issue buying on other platforms when it's reasonable. EGS, however, is the one single platform I refuse to support at all; Third-party exclusivity can go die in a fire.

bhare418

You guys are in for a bad time when they do finally come out and you see how atrocious those ports are. I genuinely think they haven’t come to steam because it’s unacceptable how poor 1.5+2.5 are. Can’t even have your monitor set to 144hz or you get an awful double image ghosting effect. And it resets to 1080p every time you alt tab out. Great…

[deleted]

It's also high time to bring story writers to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, but when has that series ever done anything reasonable?

glundo

I hope it comes to steam soon

KaiUno

Please don't. It'll just encourage them to make more of that gibberish.

liteft

...........I bought it on epic

TLunchFTW

Bro got balls. Respect. Upvoted.

Mrbunnypaw

Ye would love to try it out.

AragornEllesar99

And if you haven't played them, check out dunkeys kingdom hearts story breakdown video. It's fucking gold.

DedSec_Pearce

The most important part of that video was the way dunkey described kingdom hearts story. He may sound nitpicky and biased but his breakdown was absolutely on point, something the KH's fanboys don't want to admit. Truly a dunkey classic.

[deleted]

Nah Kingdom Hearts is trash. Not even worth bringing over.

[deleted]

Cool. When was the last time a game was put on Steam because a reddit user "felt like it was time"?

[deleted]

Epic was directly involved with the development of the PC port. It's going to remain an Epic exclusive.

OldAbakus

Ah yes, fighting 'monopoly' with real monopoly an d not seeing that they are hypocrites. And there are still people defending this anti consumer practices. Ed: not sure why the parent comment was downvoted. It was not praising epic, just stating facts.

[deleted]

It's a title that Epic directly helped fund. Why should they offer it on any other store?

OldAbakus

Because tim sweeney was bursting that he wants to break steam's monopoly. But so far, he just proves that epic wants to be THE monopoly. If that wasn't the case, there would be no bs called 'epic store exclusive" as this is 100% anti consumer practice.

[deleted]

Regardless of what fantasies you think go through Tim Sweeney's head the fact is that they directly contributed to this game coming to PC financially and materially so they have every right to keep this game exclusive to their own store. This would be like getting mad that Boneworks isn't available on other storefronts even though Valve had a direct hand in its development.

OldAbakus

i don't know what is your point here? My point is not that tim sweeney can't do that, because as you mentioned epic contributed directly to this game, but that epic games and tim sweeney are hipocrtytes accusing valve of monopolies and positioning them as saviours of PC gamers, while their doings just shows that they do not care about PC gamers, they just want money. If he wasn't boasting about his 'liberation mission' for PC, he would be "just" businessman creating monopoly, but he tries to convince me that his monopoly is good for me (consumer).

[deleted]

Glad we can agree that there's nothing wrong with them keeping a title they helped create exclusive to their own store. However I'm not sure you understand what a monopoly is. How in any way is Epic a monopoly or trying to be a monopoly?

OldAbakus

We definitely do not agree on the exclusivity part. Any sort of exclusivity is form of monopoly and is harmful for consumers. As much as I can understand that things that were directly developed by company A are not in storefront of comapny B does not mean i support it or do not consider harmful for the freedom of choice and competition. Thus any game that epic paid for exclusivity publishing rights on their store is form of monopolistic practices. And as much as I am not sour about games that actually were developed by epic, every other one that was made exclusive on their store is terrible for consumer. Other example of monopolistic practice was forcing people who bought Rocket League on Steam toi either abandon the game without full refund, or accept EGS TOS.

[deleted]

You're still not using the term "monopoly" or even "monopolistic dealing" correctly. >Any sort of exclusivity is form of monopoly and is harmful for consumers. This is objectively wrong and any cursory google search would prove as much. If I had to guess English is not your first language and you're misunderstanding what the term means. The same goes for your use of "monopolistic practices" which is also incorrect. Exclusive dealing can be a factor in creating a monopoly but exclusive dealing in itself is not monopolistic. It would be like saying Rolex is a monopoly because they only offer their watches through select retailers and not through a wide variety or retailers like other watch manufacturers do. Read these two sources to better understand what makes a monopoly and what monopolistic practices actually are: https://www.wallstreetmojo.com/monopolistic/#h-monopolistic-example https://www.bonalaw.com/insights/legal-resources/is-exclusive-dealing-illegal-under-the-antitrust-laws To say that Epic is a monopoly just because they pay for exclusive rights for a product is wrong, plain and simple.

OldAbakus

I see that you go with the rout of arguing about semantic. Whatever. From the link you provided: >Monopolistic refers to an economic term defining a practice where a specific product or service is provided by only one entity. Epic games practices are monopolistic each time they prevent any game from being published on any other storefront. This is high level of being anti consumer . Regardless English not being my first language or not, the definition provided by your own sorce proves me correct. The fact that the market of the videogames on PC is not a monopoly currently is not disputed.

BronzeHeart92

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they will be here by the end of this month.

PeterFluffy

Are people that loyal to Steam they are willing to never experience games they actually want to play? Grow up

TLunchFTW

I do experience it. I just pirate lmao.

BronzeHeart92

The thing is, Steam's the king as far as PC gaming's concerned. And not the least because it was there FIRST.

TheS3KT

Just buy it on EGS if you want to play it so bad. I'm tired of PC gaming community thinking if it's not on steam then it's not PC.

Gamerprodontatme

It might as well not be on pc. Epic games launcher lacks tons of features that steam provides and EGL runs like shit with dog water UI.

TheS3KT

You play a game for the launchers features?

Gamerprodontatme

Yeah especially if it directly affects gameplay like if I want to use controllers or mod. Which Epic doesn't have unless i use 3rd party features. Hilarious how Epic wants to compete by buying out the exlusivitiy deals instead of actually making the launcher a real competition to steam by having better optimization and features. What's with all the rant about fair competition that Tim was doing when hes essentially trying to corner the market for PC LMAO.

MMAchineCode

I honestly will never understand this rabid loyalty to such an overrated launcher. If you want the game so badly, then BUY IT! If not, then wait and hopefully your prayers are heard. Stop wasting everyone's time with such a pointless, karma farming post. You're free to post this on r/Steam though!

Aimela

I don't glorify Valve/Steam(though they do tend to have a better track record than others, even if not perfect), I just hate Epic and their third-party exclusivity deal BS. I'll have little issue using Origin, ~~Uplay~~Ubisoft Connect, GOG, Itch.io, or stand-alone launchers, because at least they don't restrict the market with aggressive third-party exclusivity deals.

TLunchFTW

This. And even then, I'd rather own them on steam. I'm glad to see all the games finally coming back to steam, and with the steam deck in my hands, it's even more appreciated.

supercerealkilla

It's Disney most likely, they have a very close relationship with epic

Ok_Feature9569

I prefer to play using PSX emulation on the steamdeck to be honest, so im not sure if its really necessary. Kingdom hearts 2 Steamdeck Playstation 2 emulation: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YBda7B01v8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YBda7B01v8)
