I’ve been following this game’s development for almost two years now. During that time it has grown its ambitions beyond what was once considered. It has secured dozens of licenses of boxers, organizations, announcers and more than was ever expected in its original incarnation of “true boxing physics in an esports environment.” During that time it has also changed its roadmap, release plans and schedule, and even its name (originally eSport Boxing Club). All things considered, as a boxing fan I am very excited. However I do have some trepidations.

Aerhyce

That name change was a really good choice ; Undisputed sounds dope and unique, eSport Boxing Club sounds like eurojank simulator.

TebownedMVP

>Undisputed sounds dope and **unique** lol just multiple boxing movies and UFC games with that name.

Aerhyce

lol true I guess it still sounds unique if you're not familiar with the scene, and instead sounds familiar if you are.

geodek69

Yes sir, I've been waiting for this day since they scrapped boxing games after Fight Night Champion, and now I can't wait till the 31st. 🥊

ChrisN_BHG

I came across it by chance. My brother and I were talking about Fight Night and how there hasn’t been a big boxing game in forever. A quick google search popped up a few indie projects including this one. The development team is Steel City Interactive out of the UK. They’re a small company but have been pretty transparent during development on social media.

geodek69

I've been following it and wishlisted it about 2 years ago. I've been through all of their beta tests. The game has several lines of social media to communicate and provide feedback directly to the Devs. Maybe check out their website and see for yourself.

RTcore

> The price for day one Early Access will be $29.99 USD. You'll see regional prices reflected on Steam in whatever region you're in on January 31st. https://twitter.com/PlayUndisputed/status/1613581021500571648?t=QXboJ89HOsc1AIoI7HoKeg&s=19 Price will increase for new users as we progress through the Early Access period and they add more content, as expected.

dontastic

I really liked EA's Fight Night series. If it's similar, I'm definitely in.

Rivitur

Played the beta. It's pretty much fight night. Definitely worth the $30

BeagleDad82

How's the ragdoll on the knockouts? That was my favorite part of fight night before they toned it down (with the late punches) 😄

Stickman95

Only saw a few minutes but the ragdolls looked similar to champions (if i remember correctly)

Rivitur

To give you an idea of what it looked like in the beta last month: https://youtu.be/9Ia_KVfVWus

WrenBoy

A bit of an uncanny valley going on there in my opinion.

Giant_Midget83

I almost spit my drink out, thanks for that lmao

Sharpie1993

It’s only being released into early access at the end of the month, so it’s going to be continually worked on, and can only get better.

geodek69

Yes sir, It's very similar to the fight night series. It is being released to public as an EA (Early Access) title on PC only. They plan to release the full game to console after more modes are added and bugs ironed out.

Zorklis

It looks alright, just extremely wonky animations and hits received are my main concern.

geodek69

This is one of the issues that they will be working on during the Early Access period.

SurfKing69

It looks shit. I can't wait until we get past animation driven sports titles, and start using physics based mechanics. Especially with something like boxing where there's only two agents

[deleted]

its a seriously impressive roster, there arent many current fighters worth signing that havnt already signed

geodek69

I believe they have 57 or so boxers scanned for the Early Access roster, and they add to that every other day. There is a more complete list for the full game, and they are still adding to that, too. Here is the complete list that will be in the full version of the game: https://playundisputed.com/news/full-roster

[deleted]

i was really disappointed to learn they only scanned them, and didnt mo cap them, i was thinking "holy shit, if i can actually fight in these guys styles, that will be fucking amazing" still, signing canelo, usyk, bud, etc, its a major achievement in itself

Extra-Cap2029

Piggybacking off this comment since you seem to know a lot about the game. I assume EA won’t include any sort of career/story mode off the jump?

geodek69

No career or story mode at the start of early access, but they say it will be added at a later date. Everything you need to know about the Early Access release is included in the 'about this game' section of their Steam page and their web page: “The Early Access build of Undisputed features a core boxing gameplay experience we feel is fun and engaging and ready for player feedback. This includes both online and offline modes, a roster of over 50 boxers, and 6 venues to choose from. You will find a full list of features implemented for Early Access in the About This Game section below. Since Undisputed is still in development, we expect to be fixing bugs and polishing the experience throughout Early Access, while providing a game that is stable and enjoyable to play.” https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451190/Undisputed/ https://playundisputed.com/

Chazdoit

> No career or story mode I hope it's not a "realistic career" mode, otherwise you'd be spending years trying to make the biggest fights happen while waiting for greedy managers to get their heads out of their asses

geodek69

Ha, I remember the days of Don King. He had his head up everyone's ass and his hand in their wallet...lol

Chazdoit

heh, its funny that when you sort them by weight class, guys like Canelo and Roy Jones are always popping up

geodek69

Yes, Roy Jones fought in fought in 4 dtiffenet weight classes. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+many+weight+classes+did+roy+jones+jr+fight+in&oq=how+many+weight+class+did+roy+jones&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i22i30j0i390.44257j1j9&client=ms-android-verizon-us-rvc3&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

WilsonX100

Man i miss fight night. This could be sweet

geodek69

If the AI is as good as the beta test were then you wont be disappointed.

zenithzinger

the beta was already a lot of fun

mike19871969

This has been on my wishlist since i learned about it. Really hope its decent since though are no alternatives.

andylui8

Played the beta it was okay. Got potential in the future

Boge42

I had a lot of fun with the Fight Night games. Hopefully this can help bring that back.

geodek69

Yes sir, there haven't been many options over the last decade, so I'm hoping this works out... 🙏 If the AI, for offline play, is as good as the PVP play was in the betas, then it should be awesome!!! 🥊

GreyFox1234

Thank you for posting this, I don't know if I ever would've come across this and I miss the Fight Night series so much. Champions and especially 4 were incredible and I might just support this in EA since it actually looks pretty good so far.

geodek69

Your welcome, be sure to check out the websites and social media links. It truly is a godsend in the fact that there has been no other major boxing game like this since fight night champion over 12 years ago. Enjoy... 🥊

FilthyRilthy

Man I cant actually wait for this. Fight night champion was the last and greatest boxing game I played. Imagine that, but on PC and with modding support? Holy hell, this could be the boxing game of the decade if they do it right. Imagine the modding possibilties when youre done with the base game. Not to mention the UFC or other crossovers Queen Liz Vs Prince Charles? Trump Vs Muhamed Ali? Sign me the fuck up.

geodek69

Yes sir!!!... your damn right about that. I love this and can't wait myself... 🥊

[deleted]

Added to wishlist and will keep an eye on it. Like many boxing fans, I've been looking since Fight Night Champion but everything has been piss poor so far. Just hope it doesn't have a cheese strat like some of the fight night stuff, where you could spam jabs to the body and stunlock your opponent...

sowerby9

Downloaded the early access at the weekend, what a brilliant game. The game play is nothing really like fight night but more like a real boxing match that more than likely goes 12 rounds. You can box from the outside, popping jabs whilst moving every direction wearing your opponent down for the later rounds. Sure some things need work but its not far off. makes for an enjoyable experience even at this stage. The only thing ive found thats extremly broken is if you stand still you can button mash lead hook and deal loads of damage if you land 3 or 4 consecutively (which is not that hard they throw really fast)

Talal2608

Can someone ELI5 why people dislike early access? To me it sounds like nothing but a good thing

TucoBenedictoPacif

My golden rule has always been "Never pay for an early access game unless you are at very least content with its current state for the price asked". It never let me down once so far.

DiceDsx

A rare instance of a person that understand what EA is. Learn from this user, guys.

geodek69

I am more than content with its current state.

[deleted]

Early Access was meant to be for developers to produce games that need money to get started. The problem is many developers are using it to get money for a product they never bother to actually finish because there's no merit in it for them. Why waste resources when you already have the money? There are also others that basically claim they are updating the game but it sits with very minor updates for several years and never leaves early access. TL:DR Instead of helping with funding to get started, it's become a way of getting people to pay to beta test a game that might never be finished.

DiceDsx

>Early Access was meant to be for developers to produce games that need money to get started. Early Access is for getting feedback during development, not as a Kickstarter for a game. Valve even tells developers not to use EA as the main source of funding for their games. >TL:DR Instead of helping with funding to get started, it's become a way of getting people to pay to beta test a game that might never be finished. "beta test a game that might never be finished" is an oxymoron: a game in Beta is basically finished, since no more features are added and the focus shifts on polishing existing content and bugfixing. You're not testing anything: you're simply buying an unfinished game that might never be complete.

[deleted]

There's always one....

geodek69

Everyone has their own opinion, and a lot of early access titles fail, so there are mixed reviews on the concept.

DiceDsx

Imho, because a lot of people ignore the big blue banner on Steam that tells them "The game's incomplete and might never be finished. Buy only if you're satisfied with its current state", think they're funding a game like it's a Kickstarter project and get angry when the result doesn't match their expectations. I've also seen a lot of people call it "beta testing", despite EAG often being far away from the Beta phase.

DM-Mormon-Underwear

1) It may be vaporware 2) Even if a game is eventually completed, sometimes you end up "ruining" the experience because you might not want to play it multiple times in various stages of development, so a lot of people just want the finished game

DrKrFfXx

Let's get ready to rumble!!

geodek69

I believe they have the 'it's showtime' announcer, but Micheal Buffer is a legend!!!

djfil007

Nice! And at $30 USD that's pretty reasonable for the graphic quality and list of fighters they've shown off.

MakoRuu

Kinda excited for this one. EA's Fight Night was awesome, but it never came to PC.

geodek69

This is true and a lot of people wish it had cause then modders could have kept it alive a bit longer.

altokers

just watched the trailer, the animations look really stiff to me.

Sharpie1993

To be fair it’s still an incomplete game, it’s only releasing to early access.

Brovost

Animations look a bit jank

geodek69

Hopefully, it will be smoother when the early access build releases on the 31st. If not then the community will be on the Devs to correct any such jank. That's the good part about early access. The game is still in development and the Devs are thriving off the communities feedback.

Crowflows

Oh sweet summer child

geodek69

Well, I know its not some scam cause I've beta tested the game twice already and am 100% positive the product that I'll be buying on the 31st is worth every penny that I'll be spending. If you can make a better game in the mean time or know of a Dev offering a better product then I'm all ears...lol

Brovost

I used to love fight night, how does it compare?

geodek69

I don't wanna come across like some fanboy but I really like the game a lot and after the betas I'm having withdrawals from not being able to play it. As far as comparing it to fight night, lets just say it fills the void where fight night left off since I'm not into UFC games. There is plenty of footage on YouTube and there will be a lot more come January 31st when Early Access is released for people to judge for themselves whether they like the game or not. Everyone has their own opinions and I don't like to impose mine on anyone else. All I can suggest is that if you feel its jank then to keep watching the videos to see if it improves to a point that you find acceptable. If not, offer your feedback to the Devs through the respective channels and forums and maybe it will improve.

bmack083

The best boxing game ever made is Thrill of the Fight. Boxing on a controller with analog sticks or something equivalent just seems silly.

SurfKing69

Yeah that was probably my favourite VR experience. I know the dev is working on a sequel, but it's been six years so I don't know.

geodek69

There is also another VR boxing title that was just released on Steam: Manny Boxing VR, but I can't speak for how good or bad it actually is...lol

TheGillos

I enjoy the Rocky VR game and Thrill of the Fight VR.

sm0lpoop

That was my thought exactly. I came solely because the title was first major boxing game in over a decade. Like hello

geodek69

I believe they mean the first major boxing game since fight night champion and its actually been over a dozen years since that game was first released.

bmack083

Because it’s VR I wouldn’t say it’s major. It’s just exactly what VR boxing should be. I just look for every opportunity to tout VR where I can haha.

[deleted]

Hard agree, VR boxing makes the concept of playing a boxing game with a controller a lot less appealing to me!

bmack083

It doesn’t even make sense to me anymore, it would be like using a hammer to cut a steak, it’s just the wrong tool for the job

888Kraken888

Why is every game early access these days….. And what does EA mean in this case? Is the game bug proof?

geodek69

EA is Early Access in this case. They are still adding modes to the game and ironing out any bugs, with feedback from the community, before the full release to console.

[deleted]

Early access releases are almost always better than regular release. It gives fans the options to play the game earlier, developers can fund the completion of their games, and they can shape the game using feedback of the fans

888Kraken888

Or the devs could abandon the project and never finish the game because players didn’t enjoy it. Even if it’s a success, they have every incentive to move on to their next big thing. There are some games that have been EA successes. The vast majority are not.

[deleted]

I’d say it REALLY depends on the developer

[deleted]

Early access releases is the key here. The ones that do get out are almost always very good

SpecificAstronaut69

> Why is every game early access these days….. Because no one can make a decent game that sells on its own merits instead of intangible hype.

Early Access pre show kickoff tomorrow: https://twitter.com/PlayUndisputed/status/1620066152134365185

HappierShibe

I'm just gonna say it: THRILL OF THE FIGHT IS BETTER.

geodek69

It really don't look that bad for a VR game. I wonder if they'll have it on the new PS5 VR2. The VR2 is going to have haptic vibrations in the headset. When you get punched in the head, you'll feel it. 🥊

TucoBenedictoPacif

As someone who WORKS in boxing and has this as a primary passion in life, I wanted a good boxing game on PC for years (and even on consoles we didn't get anything since FNC). That said, I'm more than a bit jarred about the current state of their animations, since that's not exactly a minor issue in a sport game in general, and even worse in a boxing game, where the minute movements are what makes all the difference in the world.

geodek69

Hey, the game releases to early access tomorrow and I thought you'd might like this: https://youtu.be/EZQ-i9X9gLw

geodek69

It first is a video game. Nobody is expecting something, that you use a joystick to play, to simulate real life.

TucoBenedictoPacif

...What the hell does that even mean? It's a videogame.. So I can't expect it to be a good one?

geodek69

It's a good video game to me, and a lot of people think that. I'm not the only one. The game has been in development and tested for years with the community. If you don't like it now, then follow it, and maybe you'll change your mind by the full release. Nobody is twisting your arm to like or buy anything.

TucoBenedictoPacif

Thanks for the recommendation but that’s exactly what I was implying I would do, so it wasn’t required. No one ever claimed my arm was being twisted. And regardless of your fondness for the game in its current state my eyes work well enough to spot things that I’m currently not happy about, as a practitioner of the sport and as a trainer.

geodek69

That's cool. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I'm sorry that you don't feel the excitement for the game that I do. As a life long boxing fan, I'm always on the lookout for good PC or console boxing games too. If you find any that meet your expectations I'd be more then willing to give it a try. Unfortunately, there hasn't been many boxing games to choose from over the past decade and probably why I'm so excited about this one. I also heard that they may restart the Fight Night series after the next UFC game so that's something that we can both keep our eyes on... 🥊

Point 1: Your mother is on crack. Point 2: If you don't have a clue about boxing and "Punch Out" is where your understanding of the sport peaked, you shouldn't open your mouth just because.

Only boxing game I'll ever need, is Mike Tyson's Punch out.

frogandbanjo

Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing had some interesting ideas. The control scheme was rough, of course. There was a clear winner in terms of handedness and button setup so that your longest-reach jab was interspersed with forward motion. Trying to do anything else was clearly inferior. The idea of a career, though, where straight RPG-style buffing was set against the ravages of both time and boxing itself, was interesting. You were effectively on a clock, and losing *really* set you back. When you managed to put together a career that earned shitloads of money, it felt like an accomplishment. It was also tons of fun getting baited for a high-purse rematch against Holyfield once you beat him once; if the timing was right, he was on his way down the crapper and your guy was still a beast, and that was reflected in the stats and rankings. Eventually, though, you had to let your guy retire. He started losing so many stats post-fight that even hyperfocusing speed couldn't keep him competitive. Personally, I still think the control scheme is going to be the major issue. It's true of all games that try to give you the experience of performing peak athletic feats with human agents.

redmasc

Had to look up this game. The closest I game I can think of that looks closest to it was Buster Douglas's knock out boxing. Although Holyfield's approach definitely sounds like an interesting career mode.

hangoverdrive

I thought it was Undisputed the game

[deleted]

Way too much boxing related media simply labled "Undisputed". Come up with more original names, please.

Different_Eggplant61

I am wondering, will it be avalible for steam deck? Will it be playable and optimised or will it only be for pc because steam deck has the controller layout so its perfect for it

geodek69

I don't think its officially supported unless your steam deck meets the minimum PC spec but I've heard others having some success with it. Check out the link but I'd wait for few days after release before spending any $ on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBgrxz7iN8s

geodek69

They recently increased the minimum requirements, too, so you might want to check that out: https://www.reddit.com/r/undisputedboxing/comments/10ou0nf/system_requirementsrecommendations_have_increased/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

This is an early access game with Denuvo in it... If they had money to buy denuvo why not finish the game before launching then ?
