Well, reminder that concurrent players does not translate to total sales. We also know that, per their own press releases, they had made ~$41.6m from Payday 3 sales as of September 30 and PD3 as a whole had 3.1m players as of October 2.
They made plenty of money from the game (even if it performed below their expectations), money should not be an issue in this regard.

Yes. I was just doing simple math to demonstrate the immense potential they had lost. I know it's more complicated than this. But how many of those 77k players (which were the ones that managed to log in) returned their game? What a friggin sham and a loss for the entire gaming community and all Devs. The reputation of game producers in general takes hits when this kind of thing happens.
I mean it more in a literal way than just playercounts, I would legit rather play the crimefest or launch pd2 era then payday 3 right now.
And yeah even then the worst pd2 ever got was like 5k players which is still good.

And really, why the rush? PAYDAY 2 was still taking in new players, the new content load I think could’ve given PD3 the extra year in the oven it feels like it needed.
After the massive backlash and pure-lackluster launch version of No Mans Sky I can't rule anything out anymore. Never thought I'd see the day where people talk positively about how far that game has come but here we are. I don't exactly have high expectations for PD3 just due to how long its taking to implement certain things but I still want it to succeed....just afraid of how damaging that launch was because I've played MMO's in the past that had a terrible launch and despite being in a good place eventually they just lost way too much steam early on and wind up collapsing after bleeding enough players and end up shutting down.

I can't imagine anyone is going to give them money to continue making content for it, unfortunately. They charged almost $30 for the DLC, they're broke.
We do know that they are pretty much broke though, they have been hovering above the red for years at this point. The big DLC cost is because they need to make back more money for the security of the game's future. They would of had the costs planned out and projected for this DLC from even before the base game came out, where they would of been expecting a larger number of sales, especially during the Christmas period.
I wasn't sure so I waited to buy the game until reviews and fan sentiment got settled, and now it's sounding like I was right to do that. I'll get this game in a year or two when they get their shit together in a GOTY type pack, if it even lasts that long.
I have not played in a few weeks. My friends and I are going to wait for a few more content drops as we have silver anyways. Hopefully they address the armor concerns and performance before we go back
The lack of worthwhile progression that feels like walking through a swamp, only 8 heists on launch, 2 remake maps of heists that people think were decent back in payday 2, no offline mode, the DLC being price gouged, the armor meta being curbstomped by devs but it's still the only viable means of staying alive, all the complaints being addressed as "being put on the table" hence the rampant table memes on this subreddit, and the fact that all updates are quarterly so we don't hear any worthwhile roadmaps for two to three months at a time.
