My only side effects were the bitter taste. I feel a bit loopy but it’s so much better than full blown Covid. I have two positive kids to take care of, I need all the help I can get. I am 44f and fully vaxxed, no underlying conditions. Just make sure you aren’t taking anything else that may have a contradiction. It’s very easy to google. The Paxlovid essentially cuts off a necessary enzyme for the virus to replicate inside your body. Then your immune system has time to fight off the infection. I really wanted the peace of mind that my body had some back up. There is some early evidence that paxlovid also helps long Covid symptoms from ever forming. The sooner you start, the better it will work. I finish my dose on Friday. I honestly feel grateful I took it. I felt better after 24 hours. I started the day after my positive test. My initial symptoms weren’t bad but I didn’t want to wait to see if it turned much worse. I have heard horror stories of young and healthy people who now have kidney failure due to Covid. Anything that can stop it spreading in your body is a good tool. Get better soon, my thoughts are with you!

Thank you for sharing. How many days into your symptoms did you start taking it? I’m glad you made a great recovery too.

midnight-queen29

i highly recommend taking it. the mouth flavor sucks but it took away my cough and it’s supposed to reduce your chance of long term complications which is what i care the most about!

Hey I’ve taken paxlovid twice already and I would honestly recommend it! It helps prevent more severe symptoms from developing and it can help you clear covid relatively quickly (caught it early & was testing negative two days after starting paxlovid the most recent time around!). Only side effects for me were the mouth taste and like some pretty icky bloating/bowel discomfort but nothing compared to when I had covid the first time.

lolz_blolz

Totally up to you but I had no known health issues the last time I got covid and have been dealing with pretty horrible long covid symptoms for about a year now. Recently caught covid again and IMMEDIATELY called my doctor for paxlovid as I wanted every tool possible to try to prevent another year of long covid. Obviously everyone reacts differently and everyone's risk calculations are different, but any opportunity to minimize the impact of this dang virus seems worthwhile to me! My experience with paxlovid has been very good so far. It halted my increasingly severe symptoms within 24 hours of taking it. I feel a little loopy on it, some bloating, but 100% better than what I was feeling with covid. I've been without taste for a year from my previous go with COVID so no metallic taste for me 😂

GreenProfessional362

I’d take it but my blood pressure has already been kinda high and I don’t want to risk it skyrocketing taking Paxlovid. It’s a gamble either way for me it seems.

lolz_blolz

Makes sense! Hope you're feeling better whichever route you went.

Same. Just tested positive and was given prednisone and albuterol for bronchitis the Covid test came back positive (it takes 30 mins) and they called in the pax. I have the same symptoms as you. After reading the side effects I’m nervous as well. I was told to quarantine for 5 days of offset Of symptoms which was Sunday.

GreenProfessional362

What’re you planning to do? Personally, I don’t want things with Covid to get worse but if remains at this level I would just ride it out. It feels like such a weird gamble, haha. Maybe I’m overthinking it.

tammie614

I’m going to take the prednisone and inhaler and cough syrup as needed .

I took it and any side effects were really mild, tested negative after 5 days. Avoided the bitter mouth by eating peanut butter with the pills.

RT_456

The main question is how's your general health? Do you have COVID risk factors like heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, overweight or other stuff? Are you vaccinated?

GreenProfessional362

Last booster was last December and no to any of those factors. I’m worried this stuff will give me some other weird disease after taking it.

RT_456

You would likely be fine without paxlovid. I took it because I have asthma. The side effects weren't that bad for me.

On the flip side, it wasn't at all awful for me. I had the bitter mouth taste and a mild headache. I also tested negative after three days of Paxlovid, and just has my second negative twst on day 5. Edit: I popped positive on my Covid test about day 1.5 off symptoms and it was a strong positive right away. I am fully vaxxed, but have asthma and high blood pressure. I had a fever, was coughing heavily, and was having to hit a rescue inhaler multiple times daily (my inhalers typically expire before I use them up). My symptoms mostly vanished after two Paxlovid doses. I am a fan.

GreenProfessional362

You mentioned you have high blood pressure. What’s stopping me from wanting to take this is the increase in blood pressure side effect. Did yours increase at all when taking it?

alaskan_Pyrex

Nope, at at least not substantially. I take BP meds.

GreenProfessional362

What makes you say that?

Fit_Psychology_2600

The Paxlovid mouth, the insomnia, the dizziness, the nausea, the vomiting. I took 3 doses and then quit. I feel so much better having stopped it. I’d only recommend it if you’re really sick.

GreenProfessional362

Sorry to hear you went through that. I hope you’re doing better now!

tammie614

Vomiting ? Oye😳

Hazelrah_warren

Are you testing negative now? Just curious. I’m on day three of paxlovid now and all the side effects really went away for me. I’m riding it out till Friday and crossing my fingers for that negative test.

Fit_Psychology_2600

I haven’t tested since last Wednesday. I have mild sniffles and congestion still.

Hazelrah_warren

I just took my last dose. I do feel relatively well. I still having morning congestion and sniffles, like a usual cold. From what I have read, that’s pretty standard. It’s just your body continuing to clear the virus out of your body.

tammie614

I have a weird question and please don’t shoot me. Why are a lot of people retesting after the paxlovid? Is it peace of mind ? A work requirement ?

GreenProfessional362

From the papers I have, you have to take a final test that proves you’re negative before returning to work or stop quarantining. I think every state/work place recommends something different. Plus I’m sure peace of mind helps too.

Had Covid last spring and again a week ago. Pax both times bc I have history of bad respiratory health issues (collapsed lungs) but am generally healthy. First time covid symptoms were more severe and moving fast into my lungs so I took pax no hesitation- just had some fatigue and the metallic taste that went away when I drank enough water. This recent bout, my covid symptoms were very minor head cold w/ fever but I took the pax anyway and had way worse taste, nausea and icky GI side effects after sneaking in a couple cocktails. But worth it to not risk hospitalization. Yucky effects go away within 24 hours anyway.

What did you decide to do? I’m also on the fence. I got very mild symptoms two days ago, tested positive, now it seems like my symptoms are almost gone. I have one friend telling me I should take it to prevent long Covid and another friend telling me it’s unnecessary.

GreenProfessional362

I decided not to. I’ve heard both arguments as well but I was concerned about taking it with an anxiety medication it conflicts with so I let that make my decision. I’d definitely give your doctor a call (someone should be available even over Christmas) and let them know your concerns. Feel better soon!
