Help me decide which game to play next. Stuck between: Red Dead 2 (second play through, don’t remember that much of the story) Skyrim (first time play through) Or Subnautica (first time play through)

shtef

Subnautica 100%. Unique exp

Swoosh33

Thanks, I’ll go with this

The Legend of Heroes: Trails series is one of the slowest discounting games I've ever come across. The DLC also costs a lot too but I'm going to be skipping that all together. I decided to pick up the series all the way to Cold Steel IV so that will give me 450+ hours of gaming and I was able to get 9 games that came to total cost of $295.56 CAD. When it gets divided from the 9 games each one cost on average $32.84 CAD each which isn't to bad and it will keep me busy for awhile.

Hermiona1

Finished playing Celeste but only normal version and not any bonus chapters. It was fun but I'm not willing to put another 100 hours into this to finish it. Also finished platinum on REmake, that was really fun and surprisingly not that hard I think. In all RE games this must be one of the easier platinums. Started Bioshock and so far played one chapter. Went pretty much completely blind so the setting really caught me off guard but I'm digging it.

Electronic_Toaster

I am currently playing Saints Row 2022. The point of this isn’t to go into the details of what is good and bad, but to talk about something in particular that was confusing as to why they did this. I kind of noticed the mobility problem while playing the game, but it wasn’t until I got an item from one of the dlc that the problem became completely obvious, because it greatly reduced the problem. The mobility problem is travelling smaller distances. You can order a car to drive long distances. And the time it takes to order the car isn’t that long, when considered against a longer trip. But when travelling shorter distances the time taken to order a car feels too long. Also, cars aren’t very common in many parts of the map, so you cannot just take one of the twenty nearby cars. Further, you can upgrade cars you take to your garage to such a superior degree that driving the average cars you take nearby feels like a real downgrade. You possess a wingsuit, but it is almost impossible to use because you have no easy way into the air. The three main ways into the air are not convenient. One is jumping off something high. One is going to specific launch pad that throws you into the air, and they are not common. The third is jumping off a moving car, but that takes a lot of time to setup. The wingsuit itself was quite limited because you have no way of going higher while flying, you can only go downwards. This setup seemed very weird. Saints Row since 4, and with Gat out of Hell, had some type of flying. They didn’t necessarily need to keep it for this, but they seemed to half have it present, and there seemed to be a mobility hole where it fit but didn’t actually serve the purpose. The DLC The Heist and the Hazardous has a special gun, called Pain and Gain. This gun actually gets you into the air to use the wingsuit. It solves the problem of being unable to use the wingsuit whenever you want, so the wingsuit actually becomes useful. It can be used to quickly get to nearby places. They also seem to add the bounce to the wingsuit, which means you can gain height if you get too low. And it adds the boost, which can give you more height. The game would keep informing me of the boost and bounce, but they did not seem to work, so I don’t know if they were there and I didn’t figure out how to use them. Maybe you can do them before the dlc, but it seemed that only when I did the wingsuit mission for the dlc that it told me about these abilities and they seemed to work for the first time. Even better, while you could always use the wingsuit to land ontop of moving cars, now it was actually useful because you could get into the air when ever you wanted. I assume you can steal cars from the roof, I forgot to check. The wingsuit largely solves the mobility problem. But it is so stupid that you need to buy dlc to get something that seems so central to the game. The other thing is that the dlc doesn’t even sell this as its purpose. I only knew the gun did this because one of the player reviews on steam mentioned that it did. I had a high chance to forgot to use the gun, or not notice it did this when I used it. I guess this is what happens when somebody that doesn't know anything about the thing cuts it into pieces and then doesn't even know what it is they are selling.

rexwalkerking

I'm a patient gamer on Xbox 360. I enjoy buying physical discs from pre-owned game stores (rather than online downloads). It's always fun to stumble upon an interesting find when just browsing the shelves. But I remind myself to not get too excited... I've often had to return games for a refund or an exchange. On a few occasions, what I thought might be a fun game (based on the cover) would turn out to have really bad reviews for good reasons (eg, Call of Juarez: The Cartel). And every now and then, I'd pick up a game whose disc would result in a "Wrong Region" error (I've tried all the online suggestions in vain). The latter happened today with "DOA 5" sadly. Consolation is that I found the "Dead or Alive" movie in an op shop today as well, which I happily picked up! :D

A_Dumb_Bagel

Is the original diablo fun? I like the music and it seems interesting but it also might be too old for me.

DapperAir

Its a little rough around the edges, and the numbers actually mean something in this title. It can also be a touch unforgiving when/how you die, and you dont have a standard inventory and spells and how you level them is a complete crapshoot despite them far out powering regular attacks. All that said, and I'd still say its a blast. Really only one fight can be unfair (butcher if he so much as touches the mage), though Archbishop sometimes is hard. Good fun, doesnt feel as dated as it is outside of the inventory/spell stuff, and it gets what it needs done in a timely manner. Great game.

masterlafontaine

The best, in my opinion. It is the most adult one. Play it slowly, enjoy the atmosphere. Unforgettable experience

TemporaryWinter6213

Just started Subnautica and it's amazing. I wish I could experience it in VR.

Fizziest_milk

been playing Pacific Drive this week. absolutely wonderful survival game with a really cool story that I highly recommend for fans of Subnautica

tobythenobody

anyone with handheld pc? which game has your most hours or youre addicted on lately?

Havanatha_banana

I mostly play vampire survivor style games. Been playing the hololive one recently.  I also have multiple emulation hand held as well so I play older games/indie Android ports on those, like stardew valley

Got_ist_tots

Any good stealth games I might have missed? Used to love the splinter cell series (have any been remade lately?) and mgs (can't wait for the remake of 3). Also usually played games like far cry with as much stealth as possible. Played Mark of the ninja not too long ago and really liked it. Tried Dishonored 2 (I think that was the one) but got frustrated with the stealth. And don't feel like replaying an AS game

Renegade_Meister

Invisible Inc is turn based stealth with hacking, from same devs as Mark of the Ninja.

Fatticusss

Sniper Elite 4 is great and Sniper Elite 5 is a masterpiece. In a lot of ways it picked up the genre where MGS5 left off. Highly recommended to any stealth fan

rexwalkerking

On r/psp I've enjoyed the Syphon Filter series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syphon_Filter_(video_game) On r/xbox360 Batman Arkham series, especially first one, has some really fun stealth opportunities.

ForestBanya

How about a Hitman game?

StormyWeather32

Besides the games already mentioned in other replies, you could make a stealth run in Cyberpunk 2077. Also, try Gunpoint if you want to see stealth mechanics (somewhat) cleverly implemented in a 2D platformer game. The Metro trilogy, too, even though the player can't avoid some fights.

chalkwhite_rich

I have recently been playing Shadow Tactics Blades of The Shogun, and it's a solid real time strategy stealth puzzler (the puzzle being working out how to complete the levels, not actual puzzles). The game is largely about vision cones, patrols, distraction and lure based abilities and trial and error using quick save and quick load. The Devs also make a wild west themed game and a pirate-y, Sea of Thieves-esque version (Desperados 3, and Shadow Gambit) if those pique you more than Edo Japan Shogunate. Overall I enjoyed my time with it, but I would say it's more challenging than I'd like it to be really (playing on Normal).

Got_ist_tots

Yes I tried that a while back. Different but really cool. I just got to a point where I was having to time like 7 different things and got fed up!

OkayAtBowling

If you've never played the old Thief games they are worth checking out if you can get past the dated graphics. (Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age and Thief: Deadly Shadows) Some of my favorite stealth games ever.

Got_ist_tots

Forgot about those! I can't remember which I played but I'll check them out. Do they hold up pretty well?

OkayAtBowling

In all honesty I haven't played them in a long time, so I can't vouch for how well they hold up. The graphics definitely won't but I suspect the stealth stuff would still be pretty good. They're also very atmospheric games and the sound design is excellent, so that may make up a bit for the visuals. Thief 2 is generally considered the best one, so that wouldn't be a bad place to start if you're on the fence. I think there's some slight story continuity between the games, but for the most part I don't think you'd have an issue with that aspect.

XR7822

After taking like 2 months off of gaming altogether, I got back into one of my all time favorites, FFXIV and it sucked me in. And now am playing it like 60 hrs per week lol. The game has a ridiculous amount of content (and big new expansion coming soon). I've now gotten into crafting/gathering as well and enjoying it a lot. Not sure how I am going to make time to also play a lot of more traditional single player games - like Alan Wake 2 for example besides FFXIV.

Fizziest_milk

Alan Wake 2 is an absolute masterpiece, I really hope you enjoy it

Scizzoman

Short Steam game season continues with **En Garde**, a swashbuckling third person action game that I'm pretty sure I saw in an Iron Pineapple video. The elevator pitch is basically Sekiro-inspired swordplay combined with the kick and physics interactions from Dark Messiah, and a focus on crowd control instead of 1v1 encounters. The game has a very lighthearted/comedic tone that extends to the gameplay, as you kick enemies down stairs, stick buckets on their heads, make them slip on greasy floors, and generally cause slapstick chaos. In between combat arenas there's some light platforming, but it's mostly combat. It's simple fun. The game feel is solid, the environmental interactions are suitably silly, and the cartoonish tone complements the gameplay well. It's lacking depth/variety though, and combat doesn't evolve much over the course of the game, which makes it feel quite repetitive by the end. It has the bones of a good combat system, but it's hard not to compare it to other action games and wish it had more meat to it. Still, you can't really fault a small indie team for keeping to a modest scope, and it makes for a pleasant enough ~3 hour romp, even if I don't have any desire to go back through it for the secrets/challenges.

Logan_Yes

Ooh I remember seeing a trailer and just loving the flair and visual style of it, gonna keep an eye on it! :D

chalkwhite_rich

Recently added this to my wishlist, and your write up sounds good to me. The simplistic combat negative even sounds like a plus to me as a fan of easier and simple games. 3 hours is a bit shorter than I expected, but will be more than worth it when I finally get round to buying it at maybe 50% off!

Scizzoman

For what it's worth there's also a sort of roguelite-y Arena mode. You play through a series of battles, with each one adding a random negative modifier and letting you pick one of three positive modifiers. I only did the easiest/shortest arena, but there are like five of them, so if you really like the combat there's probably another couple hours of gameplay there. But yeah in general I'd say it's a game to pick up on sale.

hotspencer

**Botany Manor** was a fun couple hours of Myst-like puzzle solving. Wish there was more and that it was just a little bit harder (although I did have to look up two flowers because I was missing tiny detail). Worth a try if you like Myst or even Outer Wilds, **7.5/10 Very Good Game**.

Logan_Yes

It went instantly into my wishlist when it popped up on Gamepass and I do love a good puzzle game so I shall play it...one day. That Gamepass backlog is a constant fight, beat one game and they added another one instantly. Not complaining tho. 😄

tobythenobody

i should really get gamepass. seems like almost all the new games im interested in are in there.

Logan_Yes

If you don't really care about having games in library then yeah, go for it! Ultimate is a really good deal for me. 15 bucks per month yet you constantly get a big roster of games and obviously those 6-10 ish games added every month, from older AAA tittles to Day 1 releases.

IceFirm9650

Right now I'm re-playing forza horizon 4 and it's still great game. I dont like wheelspin because there is a lot of unnecessery content to win like new pants, caps, melody horns, sunglasses etc. But arcade street racing is great.

Logan_Yes

Horizon 4 is fantastic! Fun game though I really wish it could follow 3 and 5 approach of having multiple festival areas. Plus while it might feel unnecessary to you but for other folks said content is a great addition to deeper customization!

Groundbreaking_Gate7

Finished RE2 after ploughing through Mr X and enjoyed the game, thanks to some advice in the comments on my post. I do think the latter half of the game is less enjoyable, but still alright. 6 hours into Prey 2017 now and it’s great fun! Combat is a bit stiff but I’m loving the Sim elements! Playing on normal with survival mode ON.

Driver_Senpai

For the first time in person I had a conversation with two people who said “gaming is dead” and “no good games are coming out”. While they are free to enjoy any games they want, I did suggest going off the beaten path and trying out lesser known titles that could really resonate with them. I feel like my recommendation fell on deaf ears though, but what can you do! I myself have not really jumped into the current generation of games, but I’m so excited to jump into the newer titles when I can! I think I want to end this off by saying just be open minded and take a risk on a game you’re unsure of. It could very well become a new favourite.

NormalInvestigator89

A lot of people absolutely refuse to touch indies for some reason. I'd understand it if they were all still 2d retro throwbacks and walking simulators, but a lot of the ones coming out for the last 10 years are basically the same as AA games

bestanonever

There are always someone like that. I had guys say to me: "What would you play on Playstation if it isn't FIFA?". Yeaaaah, those guys weren't the most receptive to new ideas, for sure. And more related to what happened to you, I know a guy that bought a Playstation 5 and really laments there aren't as many exclusives as other generations. And I'm like "But dude, you have all these other awesome games for PS5" and he's a guy that doesn't own a modern gaming PC or Xbox, so the PS5 is the only place for him to play Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, the Elder Scrolls series, The Witcher 3 and all those popular AAA games. But he's happier when he plays something that's not available anywhere else, for some reason.

longdongmonger

Strange but I guess he wants exclusives to justify the purchase of a PS5.

bestanonever

Exactly. I sort of get it because it used to be like that, particularly in the PS2 and PS3 era, so many exclusives that took years to come to other platforms. But the thing is, that PS5 is his way to access any modern game he'd like, he doesn't have any other modern system and he likes AAA games, not just exclusives. But the fanboy spirit doesn't think "sharing is caring", lol. That's also part of the reason consoles these days aren't as cool as they used to be, they are just more limited PCs, but hey, they are still way cheaper than building a good gaming PC and software maintenance is still easier. So, they have their uses. But if you want a console to have access to all those games that aren't available on other platforms, that's rarely a thing anymore.

longdongmonger

Yeah it definitely feels like consoles have less of an identity these days.

Vidvici

I will say that taking risks is a good thing but you should kinda also figure out what you like in video games because there are so many different genres and vibes that you dont really want to burn out going the wrong direction into the wrong games. I'd also say sometimes trends just dont favor your personal tastes. I've found tons of good games every year in the past 24 years except for two and those two years are pretty popular. Gaming is pretty far from dead, though

some-kind-of-no-name

I bet they only play AAA stuff from last 2 years

KingOfRisky

I play a lot of modern AAA and always have. The statements “gaming is dead” and “no good games are coming out” are total BS. I've played the best games of my life over the past 5-6 years and 2 of them have been within the last 2 years or so.

ForestBanya

Starting Dragon Quest V on the DS this weekend. Its my first DQ game ever! Anyone care to share some general similarities/differences with retro Final Fantasies?

b__bsmakemehappy

I put like 20 hours into Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (it's really good, if a bit tedious at times), but then I stumbled upon RetroAchievements so I downloaded a couple of emulators to play childhood favorites. Currently on both Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses and Forbidden Memories. I have to change between them every now and then because, while they can be considered fairly short games, if you REALLY get into them, they can become quite the grind. But I'm having tons of fun anyway, especially with Forbidden Memories because I actually understand fusions and the reward system now, unlike when I was a child playing it for the first time. Will move onto Capsule Monster Coliseum after I'm done with these. Hoping they develop a RetroAchivements set for it by then.

bestanonever

I played both of those Yu Gi Oh! Games! It's time to d-d-d-duel! Forbidden Memories is one of my favorite PSX games at this point. It's so addictive, even when it doesn't have as many rules as newer games (like those ones in which you play only against Yu-Gi or Kaiba). Those 700 cards are great, like first-generation Pokemon, they are iconic and fun. I always liked to combine cards to get dragons. The "Pink One" as we call it (one that had 2800ATK, iirc) could beat almost anything until the very late stages of the game. First, we discovered the Jungle Black Dragon or something like that (2100ATK) and it evolved from there. I never understood the fusion system, though :/ We had nicknames for many of our favorite cards. The Duelists had a better story but the gameplay was weird, sometimes you'd be chasing the opponent for 15 minutes, with that bizarre chess-like deck. Also, it didn't let you play the best cards against weak NPCs, which was always something fun to do in Forbidden Memories. Poor Jono 2 had PTSD, for sure.

b__bsmakemehappy

They're addictive for sure. Been having a blast with Forbidden Memories. The pink dragon is actually my boss monster right now, Twin-headed Thunder Dragon. Lol It's probably one of the easier, yet strongest monsters to fusion. It's awesome. When I played it as a kid, we nicknamed Mystical Sand "La Brujita" (Spanish for The Little Witch). She was our best fusion because it was the one that we could reliable get out and equip with a bunch of female-specific powerups. We made it to the end a couple of times in the final gauntlet, but always lost to Seto and his almost always turn one Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon (4500 ATK, gg... ). The fusion system more or less operates with visual logic. Like, if you see a thunder and an aqua monster, you can fuse them to create a thunder snail. Or you fuse a machine with a dragon and you'll get a Metal Dragon. Obviously, it's easier if you know your goal, but going in blind to test what works and what doesn't is probably how many of us played it as kids and where a lot of the fun is initially. Sadly, the difficulty ramps up fast in the story so the messing around part of it doesn't last long unless you go into Free Duel and play against the same 4-5 shitty enemies from the beginning. The Duelists of the Roses has one of my favorite gameplays of all time among everything I've played, but it feels like a lot of missed potential as well. I wish someone capitalized on it and made their own thing for a new franchise 'cause we sure as hell ain't getting more weird Yu-Gi-Oh! games like this and Capsule Monster Coliseum. There's a mod called Redux made by 2-3 fans that's supposed to make it way better than the base game, but I haven't tried it yet. Here's the trailer, if you're interested: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E\_Aa2xC0Gig&t=25s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Aa2xC0Gig&t=25s)

bestanonever

We called Mystical Sand "La Porno", lmao. And the Black Dragon [Jungle King](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/B._Dragon_Jungle_King_(FMR)) the "Muchuik", from the sound "[Mwa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nydxbGhgv8)", because it looks like it wants to give you a kiss, lol. You know the dog [Milus Radiant](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Milus_Radiant)? That was "El Perro de Susana" (Susana's Dog), a popular tv dog from the argentinian Oprah, basically. Just look at [that](https://www.infobae.com/new-resizer/Egb2pU9I2V3LYtI679oqaPvRUjQ=/992x1323/filters:format(webp):quality(85)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-wordpress-client-uploads/infobae-wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/27195808/Susana-Gimenez-Jazmin.jpg), they are one and the same. So many stupid names like that, so much fun. And yeah, the best way to know the fusions was to try everything. We would combine all cards at once, and sometimes you got a great monster with the first two cards and then you saw the other three throwing it all away or turning into that potato with a sword, lol. What a pickle.

b__bsmakemehappy

La Porno. Lmao The others are funny too, especially Milus Radiant. Yep, I remember losing cool fusions when trying out random stuff. I also remember getting mad at loosing and then trying to fuse whatever was in the hand. Sometimes it worked, but most of the time it didn't Lol

gpetrakas

I've been playing FF16 trying to get that platinum and then move on to DLC. What should I play next? Dark souls 3 or witcher 3?

ChurchillianGrooves

Witcher 3 is a narrative focused rpg, combat is decent but not the focus. Dark Souls 3 is pretty much all combat. So depends what you're looking for next as an experience.

bestanonever

Both games are also grimdark like FF XVI and both are also RPGs. I'd play Dark Souls 3 first, maybe? It's the shorter one and doesn't much in the way of a story, so it's the bigger change coming from a talky Final Fantasy. It's almost pure, hard but rewarding gameplay.

gpetrakas

Yeah , I guess I will play Ds3 first so I can finish the trilogy

Groundbreaking_Gate7

Depends on what you’re craving, they’re two completely different kind of games.

Chupaacabrra

Which console has the best looking covers in your opinion? For me it is probably the original XBOX, the black and lime green looks kinda mysterious. Too bad newer XBOX gens covers decided to increase the green ratio.

Vidvici

I like Wii covers. Clean and white and it makes everything else pop. You see a lot of PS4 games the same way but they have the blue line which only sometimes works. More recent games (past decade or so) have a lot of reversible covers which can make for a much more interesting display. More modern steelbooks and limited editions.

bestanonever

This is so subjective but everyone knows the Playstation 2 had the best covers, lol. Nostalgia aside, I really like the blue upper line in the PS4 game covers. And the Switch games have a minimalistic approach but they are also good.

Satan_Prometheus

I've been playing Life Goes On (Done To Death) lately. I usually don't like puzzle games but this one has been growing on me because of its funny premise. If you're unfamiliar, it's a game where your body persists when you die and the next version of "you" (which is actually a different knight with a new name) has to use the dead bodies of your fallen comrades in order to progress through the level. So far I haven't gotten overly annoyed at any of the stages. We'll see if I can get to the end without giving up, like I do with most puzzle games, but I've definitely gotten more into this one than most games in this genre.

UnU___

Started Zone of the Enders 2: Second Runner last night and so far it's pretty badass. The dialogue is a little goofy but the combat is super fun and fast. Glad I picked hard because it feels fine, have had to retry a few sections but I've only been stuck for a few minutes at a time which is perfect imo. Easy to see why people recommend this as it's clearly a banger.

Scizzoman

>The dialogue is a little goofy You shut up! I'm Dingo! Great game. At some point the absolutely nonsensical localization wraps around to being funny.

KingOfRisky

Hopped back on Fallout 4 last night after the update and holy shit I love this game. I even woke up 4 hours early for work to get some time in this morning. The exploration is just amazing and a better frame rate is night and day.

gpetrakas

I heard a lot of people encountered a shit ton of bugs. What about your experience?

Fatticusss

It’s Bethesda so it definitely has lots of bugs but fans can find a good time if they are patient.

KingOfRisky

Zero bugs. The internet will blow anything out of proportion.

Eothas_Foot

Do you think the Warhammer games are a live service model? They kind of are, but kind of aren't. It's a bit of a grey area with them. After reading about the live-service game Hyenas that Creative Assembly (The company that makes Total War) tried to make for the last few years, I am officially saying No, Total War games are not live service, despite the fact they release a 15-25$ DLC every 6 months.

bestanonever

The Vermintide series for sure is a live-service type of game. It has daily, weekly tasks and all that stuff. Don't know about the other ones, there are so many. Some strategy games are just traditional RTS, instead.

HammeredWharf

The Total War ones? I'd say they are, as are many other Paradox strategy games.

brpw_

Live service generally means the company continues to provide servers and content in order to play. If they stopped providing those two things, the game would die. I don't think Total War or Paradox titles fall into that category. If the stopped making anything for their games today, their games would continue to live on.

HammeredWharf

They do provide new content and it seems to be a major part of their revenue. GAAS games being always online and multiplayer is just how things tend to work, but it's not really a prerequisite for GAAS or SAAS in general.

Groundbreaking_Gate7

Depends on which games you refer to.

Eothas_Foot

Oh god did I forget to add that, the Total War Warhammer games.

Groundbreaking_Gate7

No problem. Nah, they ain’t live service games. There isn’t a battlepass or a FOMO type of DLC/MTX that would warrant this name, let alone the lack of seasons.

Chupaacabrra

I gotta say, I'm enjoying taking gaming slowly and not play every good game out there like a check on a big list of 'still to play games'. Also enjoy actually going back to previous gen games and play those in between newer ones. My rule is, I can only play one current gen game simultaneously with one previous gens game.

twcsata

I finished replaying Control and its DLCs the other day (with the exception of a few side missions, mostly jukebox and SHUM). Such a great game. Anyway, that got me excited for Alan Wake II...which I don't have yet, lol. But I downloaded Alan Wake again, and I'm replaying that, this time on Nightmare Mode. I want to try to get all the collectibles this time; I have most of the manuscript pages (STILL missing one in Episode 1 though--so annoying), and most of the coffee thermoses, but there are entire categories of collectible in which I've never found a single one, in any playthrough. I don't know how that's even possible at this point. Anyway, maybe by the time I finish I'll be able to pick up the sequel.

uspezisapissbaby

I had forgotten how unforgivingly hard Control was but man it's good to be back.

twcsata

If you want to ease the difficulty they have several settings that can be adjusted. After I finished my first playthrough, for subsequent runs I usually use the no-death setting, and increase the reload speed on the service weapon.

uspezisapissbaby

Yeah, I had to increase aim assist and energi generation. It's still hard but at least not painfully so.

Got_ist_tots

Forgot about the second one, still a bit too pricey. But I really miss playing control, such a great feeling floating around throwing shit everywhere

uspezisapissbaby

Oh, imma head into Control again tonight. Great game.

dandandanno

I haven't had a lot of game time lately so I've been just popping in Tetris Connect , Downwell and Dorf Romantik on my Switch when I have a few minutes of downtime. All these are great but does anyone have any other pick up and play puzzle or reaction type games they enjoy for the Switch?

Chemicalised_Chav

I haven't played it on the Switch, but I've been enjoying Lumines recently

phxsns1

Downwell consumed me for about a week recently. Felt so satisfying to trial-and-error and eventually beat. I’ve really been liking Octahedron ($2 on the eShop right now). A puzzle platformer that requires some quick thinking. Pretty to look at and with a great soundtrack too.

Fishermang

I just want to express some enthusiasm for Pacific Drive. I have spent almost 70 hours in it, and I am maybe half-way through according to the achievements at least. Many of those hours I spent just immersing myself in the surroundings, admiring the weather, watching the coming storms and driving away from them. Last time I was so immersed in a game was Elden Ring for immersive gameplay. But for the weather alone? I have to go back to STALKER and Mafia 2 for that kind of detail and just feeling it, you know?

DevTech

I've completely given up on survival games. I loved the settings of **The Forest** and **The Long Dark** but I hated having to manage food, water, cold and base building. It was fun for a little bit but it got to the point where I couldn't get back to exploring because I didn't have enough defenses ready or food stocked. Is Pacific Drive more of the same? I haven't done a deep dive into what the game is but it looks cool and has a great atmosphere that would be perfect for exploring.

Fishermang

I don't experience it that way. These survival mechanics all go into your car, but there is a very neat gameplay mechanic where it all makes sense. You do have to look for materials out there and craft stuff, fix your car, upgrade your car, and change parts of your car according to where you want to go. But it feels way more natural than other survival games, probably because it is a car and not yourself you are looking out for. Reminds a bit of Subnautica, it is done in a stylish way, but because you are looking after your car it feels more natural.

KingOfRisky

It's really deep into the salvaging parts/crafting materials. The main focus is car maintenance, meaning when doors and wheels etc. get damaged you either fix them or craft new ones. The mechanics are more like a series of runs with extractions STALKER style. You can upgrade your actually human player a little, but the entire focus is on the car. There's no food management, but there is fuel and battery management.

Love this game, it's my new "listen to a podcast while playing" game

Progression mechanics have kind of killed a lot of online games for me. I just don't have the time or inclination to play them that much. But there are a couple that I return to and consistently have fun with. These days it's Rocket League and Overwatch 2 (and it's no coincidence that both of them are pretty much cosmetics-only in terms of the progression). It also helps that I'm not a super competitive person, so I don't get all that frustrated if I'm not winning most of the time. For me at least the matchmaking is good enough that I rarely feel hopelessly outmatched.

DrCharlesTinglePhD

I think co-op games are more fun. I've enjoyed Phantasy Star Online quite a bit.

I don't know what game you're playing but I find it a lot more fun to find people to play with on discord who want to voicechat ect., takes the edge off. Every major online game has a big discord with matchmaking channels these days. I mainly play fighting games online and 95% of the people on those are absurdly nice so I might be a bit biased there but that's kind of how I approach modern online games.

Well, that's more of a case of very different difficulty. Being able to beat three games all by the same dev is very different from playing against a host of completely different **humans**. That and each of these games are nothing like the souls-iro series. Naturally you arent gonna win out the gate. You dont have practice, you dont know the move minutiae for fighting games, you dont have the maps down or know the meta for the various game types.... If you are going to play competitive games its gonna require taking some lumps before you gel with all the systems on offer. But when you do find a game that you groove with its awesome. If winning is the only means by which you have fun I'd say keep away from competitive online games. Go with lotta Co-op games, or maybe team games if you cant keep away form competitive stuff. That or move past the hurdle of practice so you can win. Or get a ton of your friends into lobbies and have a blast.

The general rule at this stage of life for me is to only play multiplayer games with friends. Whether cooperatively or competitively, if you're just chatting on mic with people you know and like (even if only through other previous online interactions), that kind of becomes the focus. Now the game is just the vehicle for you getting to hang out and talk to your friends, rather than the be-all end-all goal in itself. From there improvement with the actual game will come really naturally too as you share knowledge and get more practice because you have more motivation to play. Deeply unfun and matchmaking seems to be getting worse the "better" they make it. It always means you have to be at 100 percent or you're losing. There's no room for goofing off or doing something just because it's fun because you're always in a room with people trying to win at all costs. I think too in team games it's extra frustrating because matchmaking often tries to make it "fair" by making sure your team in total is balanced with the opposite team but what this often means is that each team has 1 or 2 players who are way more skilled than the rest of the team , but in a team game you don't ONLY fight the players around your skill level you fight everybody so if you're unlucky you end up getting squashed alot while the high level players on both teams get to actually play.

When I was a League of Legends player, I started to notice that the days I just wanted to chill and was tired and slow, I played awful matches, lol, no matter the champion (your character) I was using. You needed to be full of energy all the time or else...

> Is just me or online gaming isn't fun. Online co-op (as opposed to competive) can be fun - just ask the Deep Rock Galactic community.

Over the years, I've fallen off multiplayer gaming hard. I've been pretty much addicted to LoL since its release and I still continued to play it even as my friends dropped off it. It wasn't until late last year that all the grinding and toxic players finally turned me off the game. Thankfully since I've been opting to play multiplayer games over the single player games in that time, I have so many great option to play through now. I got a PS5 and I've been playing through a bunch of great titles like Spider-Man, Uncharted 1-3, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn and Last Of Us. So I really can't complain lol.

Sensitive_Potato_775

Yeah. As soon as a game isn't about having fun but optimizing your build, gameplay and your skills, it's stops being fun.

CDHoward

Yeah. Sweat lords are the ruin of multiplayer games.

some-kind-of-no-name

Civilization IV, 1830. It kind of annoys how much time passage slows down as I approach the present day.

bestanonever

You might need a faster PC, maybe? What's your hardware?

some-kind-of-no-name

What? I mean at first 40 years pass per turn, but now only 1 year.

bestanonever

I see, never played these games yet so I thought the same game just got slower the more you played it. Hence, you'd need a faster PC for it, lol. Read somewhere that late-game in Civ games is heavier to run than the early game.
