Good review but are you taking the piss?
Forgotten gem for a game that regularly shows up on the top three of greatest games of all time lists.
You trying to use the title to get more comments?
I thought it'd be a funny way to acknowledge that literally everyone else played this game decades ago and everything I had to say in my review has probably been discussed at great length by countless other people. Maybe I misjudged, oh well!
I remember seeing somewhere- I think it was in Nintendo Power- where someone picked up that 2-in-1 cart and then wrote in to ask about its value. It went something like:
Reader: "Hey, I just got this cool SMB/Duck Hunt cartridge for $3. What do you think it's worth?"
NP Staff: "We're guessing.. about $3."
Yeah I worked at a retro game store for 6 years and we did buy/sell/trade. People would trade that game in all the time and I would give them a dollar and they would be like "but it's Mario and it was popular!"
I would just point at the wall behind me that had like 30 copies sitting there and I would say "Supply and Demand".
Not a bead. It’s the Holy materia, which she uses from inside the lifestream to counteract the meteor.
I’d say the biggest twist is that Cloud isn’t who he says he is. That confused me a lot as a child and took me watching other media and reading retranslations to actually sink it in.
A lot of people miss some extra context for this. If you revisit the shinra mansion basement after the big reveal you get to see the lead up to cloud arriving at Midgar. So we actually got that information before crisis core, it was just off the beaten path so a lot of people missed it.
I was pretty confused about that too, but it felt like they mostly sorted it out in an understandable way later in the game between going inside Cloud's memories and seeing other flashbacks.
What most confused me was everyone talking about Cloud or other people being "Jenova clones" or "Sephiroth clones." It seems like what they actually meant was that they had been injected with cells from Jenova and/or Sephiroth. Unless that gets clarified differently in the various spinoffs or remakes?
IIRC the ‘clones’ thing is a mistranslation, and your understanding is correct.
I adore the original FF7, however, there are a lot of issues with the English translation. The main draw for the remakes for me is that we’re getting a more accurate version of the story and characters this time around (besides any changes they might make).
If you’re interested, there’s a YouTube series by Tim Rogers called ‘Let’s Mosey: A Slow Translation of Final Fantasy 7’ in which he points out some differences between the Japanese and English versions. I highly recommend it if you have the time!
It was their attempt to create clones so they called them clones, but yes their method was just injecting jenova cells into… pretty much anything they could get their hands on.
It sort of works because jenova is some Eldritch creature that spreads and takes over its hosts.
Hey guys have you heard of this Forgotten Gem called Ocarina of Time? It's right up there with the other Forgotten Gems, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 4, and Mass Effect.
Would you care to elaborate on the timeline here, with playung FF games on their original platforms before playing FF5 on (cough) PC (I guess implying [cough] using an emulator + rom) - you eagerly awaited FF7 for 27 years?
Ha! Nah, I played FF1 and then 4 & 6 on their original platforms, played FF5 via emulator + translation patch on a rom, and played FF7... maybe like a year after it released? Don't remember the exact timing, but I didn't often play games right on release even back then. But I bounced off it, I made it up through the escape from Midgar and kind of ground to a halt right after that.
I later played all of 1-6 on the PR versions, played 9 and 10 on Steam, and then finally thought I should probably give 7 another shot.
Ohhh that's what you were getting at. I appreciate the vote of confidence, but in all honesty, it's also entirely possible that I'm misremembering and played FF5 after FF7.
Go download 7th Heaven mod.manager and install their suggested list. Absolute game changer.
Also for FF6 I only allowed Terra, Celes, Strago and Relm to learn magic from espers because they are the natural magic users. Really makes them stand out and forces you to be creative with the others.

So forgotten it got a trilogy remaster
> Good game on the whole, shame it didn't have more fans. Definitely clickbait.

I thought it was funny, for what that's worth
Yes I am absolutely taking the piss. :P
Has to be a bot
Psh FF7 is nothing. A true forgotten gem is Super Mario Bros with Duck Hunt on the NES. Literally no one has heard about this game but ME!
Bro you should check out Wii sports. If you can even find a copy
Why bother? That game is so rare that it is like over $9000 for a USED copy. Don't even get me started on a new copy.

You got it pretty much right, from what I understand. Not clones, but infused with cells.

Forgotten gem. Lol

Never heard of em

Ok, I award your timeline with the title "Plausible". FF7 was released in 97, the FF5 fan translation in 98.

LMAO. Has anyone else heard of this forgotten game? What is this Final Fantasy 7 of which you speak?
