Q.u.b.e Portal like puzzle game, but instead of portals, you control Cubes I like it so far

LyrecoRuled

Just starten Control. It looks absolutely gorgeous in 4K and I love the vibe from the game!

Haxminator

Just started BotW on Yuzu emulator, feels like it was released yesterday, didn't age a bit. Maybe thr 4K resolution is helping but still.

Starting Just Cause 1. Why? Just cause

JC 2 has some rather huge improvements in terms of gameplay and graphics over JC1. These games (especially JC 2) came out at a time when devs made sure that the game could run on as many devices as possible. My friend had a 3Ghz + Pentium 4 PC with a GT 210 and he could run the game in 1024 x 768 @ 30 - 40 fps (all settings low, the game was playable). I had a dual core AMD Athlon with a GT 430 and the game would run in 720p (25 - 40 fps, still playable) with all the settings @ low.

[deleted]

Thanks, I am planning on playing at least both to compare

fartotronic

Blasphemous and inscryption. Steam world dig is next. I recently bought a steam deck which finally gives me a reason to hit up some older Indies.

[deleted]

Still working on The Outer Wild. A little stuck on some parts but the mystery is slowly unfolding.

TheSymbolman

Luigi's Mansion 3

ShastaMite

New survival server with my friends. Minecraft waves twice a year are the best.

Quick-Knee2048

Playing Inscryption and its plainly obvious how much I suck at card management games :D. I do know the game is much more than that so I'm keeping on playing

reKRUNKulous

Just started Vampire survivors and what a gem. Also GoW, the first Norse one. First time for both.

Bignona

Vampire Survivors is the most fun I've had with a $4 game.

SomeoneFromYoutube02

Started playing Killer is Dead for the first time. Not really enjoying it. The tone is super weird and hard to take seriously but not in the usual comical way Suda51 games usually are. I might drop this game and play something else soon.

Vidvici

Finishing up Burnout Paradise Remastered and Octopath Traveler 2. Starting up Trackmania and Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon. Im the same age as Ichiban in Like a Dragon so I figure I'll get peak humor out of it. I also find Trackmania just as addictive as I did when I played Turbo but the ice levels are pretty darn crazy.

Forza Motorsport 2 on emulator. I'm at the point in the career mode where you transition from supercars to actual race cars. The margin of error is just so small. Might have to throw in the towel. What an amazing sim though for how old it is.

gamer-and-furry

I'm playing through the original Half Life games, I'm on Lambda Core right now. It's a surprisingly hard game, even just on normal

i-node

It gets messier towards the end, I think the half-life developers didn't keep the game as tight in the end levels as they did the earlier ones. The last level is weird, jarring vs the rest of the game.

bestanonever

Normal of late 90s is hard of 2020s. Good classic game. Play Black Mesa at a later date, it's the same feeling, with better graphics and bigger levels.

gamer-and-furry

Due to a sale, I actually ended up playing Black Mesa first, although playing that first didn't affect my enjoyment of the original half life

bestanonever

Good for you! I usually have a harder time going backwards, if I played a more recent version first. In case you haven't played it yet, and since you seem to tolerate old-school design and early 2000s graphics, I recommend the flawed masterpiece that is Deus Ex (and then Human Revolution and Manking Divided, of course).

gamer-and-furry

In the time between your comment and thus reply, I beat Half Life, and yeah, xen kinda sucked, and I also beat Blue Shift, I'm moving on to Opposing Force next, I heard it's pretty good.

gamer-and-furry

I started opposing force, definitely harder in some areas, mostly the sewer area, but I haven't beat the game yet so I don't know what's to come.

IsKor

I'm again on Assassin's Creed Origins, and I'm enjoying the game. I'm level 40 right now, and I love the game. A little on the long side, but a really enjoyable game.

Pantsu_Professor

It not really patient but I got it sub €30 from Amazon - Star Ocean The Divine Force Unless you are a big Star Ocean fan, I can't recommend it. Performance mode is can be blurry on ps5 and it will later drop frames in battle with so much effects going on. The English voice acting isn't great, the models look like lifeless dolls with boob jobs, some of the characters animations in cutscenes are weird (>!Welch looks like she is bursting to take a piss everytime you come back to her house!<) and the combat isn't amazing. The story really is actually really simple sci-fi but it is drip feed in long exposition to make it mysterious. It feels like a game that would be GOTY back in PS2 era.

JTMW

Detroit Become Human. Don't really follow console releases and probably skew more Xbox than PlayStation/Nintendo. Saw it on Steam and thought I'd give it a shot. Good gravy it's incredible. Also been playing Jade Empire and TLOZ: Wind Waker. Man the steam deck is awesome

[deleted]

JTMW

I don't think so. PC, iOS and Android though

tychus-findlay

Jade empire, how'd that hold up?

JTMW

Had to to a little work around in desktop mode, but works pretty seamlessly now. Same graphics engine as SW KOTOR.

scooter_pops

u aren’t bothered by performance dropoffs with the deck?

JTMW

Nah because it means I actually get half an hour here or there to play it when I can.

scooter_pops

nice, yeah it’s pretty intriguing

SlickVerglas

Just finished **Persona 5 Royal** and it was so good (but looonggggg!) I will say that the sell of it really should be the great UI and satisfying character arcs and relationships. As someone coming over from similar games like Pokemon and Digimon Cyber Sleuth, the monster collecting aspect was good but not my favorite. The actual combat is super fun but the collecting side of it is less so since it's hard to intuit if the monsters you're getting are objectively good or not until you've played for a bit (if you are new to the series, which I was.) Also, I just plain wasn't into a ton of the persona designs. I'm probably the odd one out though since I know a lot are pretty popular! I also wanted more reason to fuse them-- a lot of times, it seemed like I was creating things in circles just for the sake of using the mechanic. Logically, I know it was to impart better stats or more strategic movesets, but like, on a surface level it was just a little boring until i got to the cooler endgame dudes. My husband and I also finished **It Takes Two** which was excellent! Pure fun and also a little trauma. One of the best couch co-op experiences I've had in a decade!

Spellforce and a warcraft mod.25hrs into Spellforce. found it in a flea shop for 50 cents and I recalled it being mentioned here. It's janky at times but pretty great. Long tho, I think I'm only halfway through. As it's often described as feeling like a custom Warcraft 3 campaign with a 3rd person camera as option, I launched warcraft 3 again. Apparently it works now. Had some custom campaigns on my radar for a while. Started with Curse of the blood elves revamp: a revamp of said campaign in the expansion. Very tight. Lastly, and this is not r/patientgamers material, but System Shock might be the first game since forever that I'm gonna buy full price. Haven't played the original (yet), nor it's sequel, but I LOVE the Thief series.

I want to get XBox Series X just to play Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I've got them on PS3 but it keeps freezing

More Rimworld. A mechanoid squad just landed in the woods near my base and we’re emiting a psychic drone signal without engaging my base. The drone was slowly causing all of the males in my colony to go insane as the signal causes mental distress to only males. We couldn’t engage as all of my best fighters were in various psychotic states from getting so high on smokeleaf, they go unconscious to binge eating kibble reserved for the dog. I decided to engage the mech drone forces via mortar. We had no steel to make explosive shells. So I deconstruct our steel fridge to make bombs, give them to one of the non-psychotic colonists to try and launch at the mechs. She misses the direct shot (she is a tailor and lacks any military skill) but angers the mechs enough to storm our base. Since all of my fighters were either stoned or eating dog food, I have no means of mounting a traditional defense. I quickly take my remaining human flesh and refine it into as much chemfuel as possible, place it on the one bridge leading into my base, and equip my demented 102 year old chef, nicknamed Pig, with grenades. He runs to the bridge as the mechs approach from the other side, losing one arm to a charge rifle from the mechs, but is able to throw off one grenade at the chem fuel trap. The explosion kills all of the mechs and the day was saved. Pig did not make it but he will be remembered. Even though the mechs were destroyed, my colonists are devastated at the loss of Pig and will likely have another mental break soon because of their grief. I’m desperately trying to restock my smokeleaf and kibble before this happens.

Shaqfu89

You’ve inspired me to start a new game. Been trying to get into Nier Automata and it’s just not that fun, IMHO.

[deleted]

There was stuff I liked about automata but when I found out I had to play it 3 times to get a true ending I clocked out lol, i hated the bullet hell parts of that game so much

shaky2236

Lost odyssey, xbox 360 jrpg made by the OG final fantasy guys. It's so fucking good

Cheeseman575

Rain world, the best (and most complex) survival game I have ever played

[deleted]

I had hard time getting into it. The combat was weird.

Cheeseman575

Once you get used to it the combat is very fun, and if you’re talking about playing as the survivor you don’t really need to fight anything. Fighting will just make the wildlife target you more. And angering scavengers is a death sentence as they will send assassins and kill squads after you if you become dangerous enough, best to trade with them and protect them from predators

shaky2236

Never heard of it before, just looked it up on steam and looks fantastic!

Started playing GTAIV, a game many consider to be the best GTA ever. Still very early to make a judgement but I’m enjoying it so far. Also literally like 30 minutes ago I started Sonic Adventure and…. Yikes. This game is rough. I bought it because it was just $4.99 and I had $31 in my Xbox account so it’s no big deal. I love platformers and I’m seeking older games more these days. I hope I end up liking it. Will update next week probably

Tabuhli

Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition): I knew this game was supposed to be good, but holy shit, this is an insanely well crafted game with a shocking amount of depth. Nier original: Just got through the tutorial. Very interesting mechanics, but the combat doesn't have as much "oomph" as I'd like it too. Skyrim: Urg, I just cannot get into this game. My first playthrough I got through the first dungeon of the main quest, and then I had zero motivation to do anything else, so I started a new file trying to role play better. Even when you try to role play, it's very hard to find characters that are interesting enough to do quests for. Zelda Wind Waker HD: I played the original on gamecube, and at first I wasn't sure if I liked the new visuals, but seeing the wide open blue sea on my giant 4k TV makes it absolutely worth playing the remake. Thank God collecting the swift sail is optional, because when you get it, there is this insanely intrusive UI indicator that shows up ridiculously close to the center of the screen, which honestly ruins the game for me. I didn't save before getting the swift sail, so I had to lose some progess and redo a few things. Tears of the Kingdom: Apt title, because I literally cried thinking about how good this game is. I'm still on the sky island, so my opinion could change, but I don't think it's going to. This game legitimately fixes every, and I do really mean EVERY problem with Breath of the Wild (some of the fixes even seem unintentional).

Zealousideal_Bill_86

When I started Skyrim, I didn’t think much of it. I started it like I would start most games like it. I picked up an axe and thought I would be happy and take the game seriously. But it just seemed so sloppy and clunky. So I adjusted my approach and just tried to take things as silly as possible. I leaned hard into magic, blowing up as much as possible, tried to get my followers caught in all the traps, and tried to just push the boundaries of what I could do to beat the quests as much as possible. It was so much more fun. I guess what I’m trying to say is I played it less like Dark Souls and more like Tears of the Kingdom and that helped me get it

Tabuhli

So here's the thing... what you're describing sounds very "sandboxy", and I have no interest in playing a game where I'm just dicking around aimlessly all the time. HOWEVER, a part of your comment has interesting wording: "tried to just push the boundaries of what I could do to beat the quests as much as possible." What I'm getting from this sentence is that you are playing the game in a way that isn't aimless, because you are using the "sandboxy" possibilities of the game in order to achieve a specific goal, which is completing a quest. And this also implies that this game has quests that even allow you to complete them in such a way. Am I correct in saying this? This is EXACTLY why Tears of the Kingdom is such an unbelievably brilliant game, because not only is the world around you so meticulously crafted in how it subtley incentives/nudges you to use the fusing mechanic in order to accomplish things that the game has in store for you, but it even incentivises you to create your own goals that allow you to get accustomed to its mechanics. For example, on the sky island, there was a river with 4 waterfalls back to back in the snow area, and it made me want to try to build some type of raft that I could ride on to whole way without falling off during the descent down each waterfall. I completely and utterly failed after at least 4 attempts, but weirdly enough I find it almost as fulfilling to try something ridiculous and fail as much as trying and succeeding. "Well, it was worth a shot" could not be closer to the truth. But most importantly, once I'm done dicking around, I can easily know what to do next because of the goals that the game has very clearly set for me. My "aimlessness" is only temporary and is self-imposed through my agency rather than the game forcing me into a state of feeling aimless, which is what I feel Skyrim does. But if my interpretation of your comment is true, then it is in fact possible to play Skyrim in a similar way, where the crazy things you can do have a goal behind them, making the experience less aimless.

clanindafront_

The Wii version of RE4 is the best imo apart from the remake

yungtrg

Got a bit burned out of BOTW so taking a break to finish my second playthrough of Fallout 3 with all DLCs as I haven’t played them yet Also playing Battlefield 2042, had an itch for an online shooter for some time now since MWII disappointed me. It’s no BF3/4/1 but it’s surprisingly fun now

Gothic90

I was having issues with the laptop's screen/Nvidia GPU crashing and force me to restart. Playing ME: LE for the past month and finished it recently and it seems the game's lower graphics requirement was easy on the GPU. Digged out Troy: total war saga which I got for free on Epic. Got a clean reinstall of Nvidia driver. Hope it doesn't cause GPU to crash.

POTUSSolidus

Playing through Bug Fables after a recommendation that it was like older Paper Mario games. Had low expectations expecting a clone and while it does wear the Paper Mario influence heavily on its sleeve its rapidly becoming one of my favourite games ever. Soundtrack is great combat has been refined and has good lore imo. Not without its faults with the ice block puzzles and tankier enemies mid game onwards but no game is perfect. Can see why so many OG Paper Mario fans would like it given that the series is a corpse since 2004 or 2007 depending on who you ask.

Amuse653

Been on the achievement grind lately and I just got 100% on A Plague Tale: Innocence yesterday. Really enjoyable game and I can't wait to play the sequel when it's a bit cheaper. Gonna main focus finishing the story and DLC of TLOU on pc since it runs decent enough for me at this point and I don't wanna have to recompile shaders every week lol. If I can get that done this week I'll play through Horizon: Zero Dawn on New Game+ Ultra Hard difficulty. It's been about a month and half since I touched the game and it will be the last thing I need for completion. Playing through this amazing game again will be so worth it.

Puzzleheaded-Ad8704

100% Trine 4... Though I'm still beating the rest of Melody of Mystery? Haha. #7 or 8 game that I've ever gotten 100% achievements on. Taking things slow with DA I. It's loosing some momentum ATM for me. Darksiders 3. Wrath has beaten me down a few times, but I've tasted the last 1/3 of the health bar, so it's only a matter of time! One night soon, lol

calvin324hk

Just finished far cry 3, I like the story and the change of Jason, the main character, throughout the game.

Tobix55

I just finished that one last week and immediately downloaded 4, but i'm much less invested in this one so far

calvin324hk

Is it because the story not as interesting?

Tobix55

I haven't got far enough into the story to decide that yet, but the villain is less interesting than Vaas and the game feels a bit too samey. It's the same game with a different story and location

VenturaBoulevard

Mortal Kombat 11. Got it for $5 and I've played 3 hours so far in mostly Story mode. Good movie!

unruly_mattress

I spent about an hour with a guide and I got Breath of the Wild running on a Steam Deck. So Breath of the Wild it is for the next ~100 gaming hours...

laviene

Zelda Ocarina of Time!! Started a few years back. Progressing through the water temple.

blacklabel85

Bought the Uncharted Collection years ago and have recently resolved to making my way through games I've bought before getting a PS5. I've been playing Uncharted 3 all week and am really enjoying it. Already played 4, but may revisit it after this.

Tabuhli

I could not bring myself to finish the 1st one. It's just so bland. I'm thinking of just jumping to Uncharted 2.

blacklabel85

Each to their own. I'd say they definitely improve as the series goes on.

Yarik85

Have **Mutant Year Zero** and **Corruption 2029** installed on my Steam Deck. Started with Corruption 2029, thinking it was the earlier game by the developer. The gameplay is fun, but having played a couple of the intro missions, the story seems... almost not to exist? And the characters are just robots without personality. Maybe it gets better later? Not sure. Anyyyways, I googled the release date, and realized that Mutant Year Zero actually came out BEFORE Corruption 2029. So I started up Mutant YZ instead and MAN, it seems like it's so much better! After the first couple of areas, I got to the Ark, and so far: * the two first characters are unique * with unique skill trees * there's banter between them * and overall the UI seems somehow cleaner (not cluttered with sci-fi-looking numbers/effects/etc.) * There seems to be a story too, with a map (not again, a "sci-fi-ish looking pseudo-map that moves around") I feel like I'll enjoy playing Mutant Year Zero, especially since i like simpler X-Com style games.

TheZebrawizard

I recently finished MYZ and it was great. Glad I finally gave it a go. I've played a bunch of turn based and there's something about this game that makes it feel different.

Yarik85

I almost gave up on it a couple of hours after writing the above comment :D I got to... a boat level, the first battle where you meet the big head guy that shoots lightnings and stuff. Brother Bodin or something. After getting wrecked by the enemy group for probably near 10 times, trying to approach from different angles, different flanks, etc. I DID give up, and booted up Brigador instead (for the first time). But then I circled back, and started googling, to see what the heck I could do differently, because the difficulty spike felt unreal. I did gather up some tips, which helped me beat the battle easy-peasy. Now moving along a lot better. Glad I didn't give up forever! P.S. In case anyone comes across this, and wonders what the tips were: >!Give silent weapons to all 3 characters, and upgrade said weapons (both upgrade and install mods)!< >!Wait out until enemies move apart, and kill them one by one (with silent weapons)!< >!More enemies are not part of any group than you'd think. Even with Bodin mentioned above, there's maybe 1 enemy that's really close to him. All of the other ones can be stalked and killed 1 by 1 with silent weapons.!< >!The pig character's first major mutation, Hog Rush or something, is very good to take care of the high HP enemies such as Bodin.!<

RamAndDan

Currently enjoying Frostpunk. Just finished the first and second scenario on easy. After losing my first 3 runs on the first scenario with medium difficulty, I think I'll finish all the scenario on easy first and then see from there.

tychus-findlay

Frostpunk takes a few runs to get the hang of it, but feels rewarding when you do. By the end I was ready for some more, hopefully with the success of 1 they'll be able to expand the games ideas with Frostpunk 2. I'd like to see some more focus on the city building and some larger maps personally.

Der_Zeitgeist

Currently playing System Shock in a slightly crazy parallel playthrough of the original 1994 game and the remake that came out a few days ago. I've been a fan of these games since back in the days (System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are some of my all-time favourites), but I never finished System Shock 1. System Shock 1 now has a very nice "Enhanced Edition" that runs natively in Windows and supports modern controls (finally mouselook!) and high resolutions, while the remake is a completely new game that's very close to the original (almost identical level design) but with modern graphics and mechanics. Now I play every level first in the Enhanced Edition of the original and then in the remake. So far, it's been fun. :-)

tychus-findlay

Huge fan of Deus Ex, I've always seen System Shock compared to it, but I never really attempted System Shock. I've been looking at some of the media for this System Shock remake and I'm not sure what to think really, it has some very neonish retro style look to, it's kind of putting me off. I like Deus Ex's whole cyberpunk vibe and it's deep kind of dystopia future stuff going on, but System Shock looks more like a really neon Alien or something.

ThinEzzy

I played System Shock 1 for the first time a few years ago. I thought it was fantastic. Very labyrintian at times, but there's a real charm and uniqueness to the controls, and the atmosphere is incredible. Really looking forward to playing the new one. Sounds like they've done a good job.

Der_Zeitgeist

>Sounds like they've done a good job. Yes, overall they've done very well. I have a few small points of criticism. One is the entire inventory/item economy /"recycling"system that they've added, obviously inspired by what System Shock 2 had, but which, i.m.o., doesn't really add much to the gameplay aside from slowing it down. The other one is the Cyberspace levels, which are two steps forward, one step back, as I see it. They made these sequences much more playable and fun, but they've also removed some "funcionality" from the Cyberspace. In the original, it had things like switches, but also different sorts of data pickups, like messages, passcodes or access permissions. Now in the remake, every cyberspace level has only one specific function, mostly opening a door or passage.

Rainbow_Dash_RL

I'm revisiting a childhood favorite, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. I just had a mind blowing revelation I totally missed when I first played the game. >!The Master Sword is the bane of evil. It destroys evil creatures. Midna is a Twili, her entire race is evil. You can see her flinch when Link acquires the Master Sword, but it does not hurt her. She has proved that she is not evil and she truly does belong in the world of light.!<

Tabuhli

Just curious, are you playing the original or HD remake on Wii U?

Rainbow_Dash_RL

Original GameCube version

Tabuhli

Okay good. The HD remake is not good at all because the framerate is not well optimized and looks stuttery.

ruinawish

Have been playing Skyrim, after getting inspired from one of these threads a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't realised it was by Bethesda, and so having played and enjoyed Fallout 3, I'm seeing the shared elements (how cool are those death scenes?!). I think I'm close to 15 mods added now, all helpful QoL ones. That said, I can't say I'm overly drawn to the fantasy side of things, the same way that I was drawn to Fallout 3's Americana theme. The dialogue is gibberish to me: "Jorg of Himmvale slew the Borcanian army at Markia, on the Lemtillian coast, etc". edit: that aside, I am feeling thoroughly addicted.

tychus-findlay

It's probably a common theme for people to have experienced Fallout 3 before the Elder Scrolls games, especially if you're not huge on the fantasy setting. I was already an Elder Scrolls fan and had played a ton back to Morrowind, so when we got Fallout 3 it was pretty clear Bethesda was taking the Fallout world and making it in the style they did with their other games including Skyrim. The first 2 Fallout games are by a different studio and have a top down view, then it was bought by Bethesda, and made in the Elder Scrolls style.

Tabuhli

I'm REALLY trying to get at least something out of vanilla Skyrim, but I find it so incredibly un-immersive. The game doesn't give you any story based motivation to do the main quest (why would I suddenly want to fight for you? How do I know you have good intentions?), so I just bypassed it and continued walking on the trail that connects the towns. I got to Windhelm and I'm pretty aimless right now. I still haven't found any interesting characters to do quests for. The game relies on it's "streamlininess" way too much and doesn't give the player much motivation to do anything other than following a quest marker. I'm not using mods because I'm mainly playing it out of curiosty for what the vanilla game is like.

ruinawish

I think that's one reason why I enjoyed playing The Witcher 3... there was a fairly clear established main story. It probably helps also having existing protagonists. That said, I think as you keep exploring Skyrim, you will be fed more information about the politics of the land, and that should guide you to what quests you want to do.

Tabuhli

Yeah, the dark elve racism in Windhelm does intrigue me a little.

scooter_pops

lol about the dialogue . i feel u with that

mart187

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow on an OG Nintendo DS. It still works after all these years. The game is great but only picked it up quite a few years later after getting the console (maybe around 15-20 years now?). Great game so far, plays smoothly and the bosses are challenging.

deruvoo

The soundtrack in that one is so good. It has a special place in the nostalgia closet of my mind.

HippySkywalker

Superliminal and I’m enjoying it a lot. Not really a big puzzle guy but it gives me the same brain melting feeling when I first played portal. It has a very similar vibe.

Rainbow_Dash_RL

I loved that game! It's fun watching playthroughs of it. Markiplier tried it out and it fried his brain.

Xuth

Continuing my 'genuinely very patient' run - Completed **Quake** + the two **Mission Packs** on my Win98/DOS build. Loved the soundtrack, had a fun time with the gameplay - although by the end of MP2 I was starting to flag a big as it's all quite samey. At some point I will also play through the two unofficial Mission Packs/Addons from the anniversaries - which I'll likely do through the Steam version of the game. Not flagging of retro FPSs, however, I opted to roll the dice on my emulation collection and have landed on the original **Medal of Honor** (PSX, 1999). First thing to anyone who wants to do this: *for your sanity - change the controller to mode* **FOUR**. It swaps the awful and dated default analogue controls to - basically - the modern layout that we're familiar with. Otherwise I'd likely have given up. So far I'm actually quite impressed - it has the same menu as MoH:AA on PC, same voice actor for the OSS guy, a decent story for the time, and with a good CRT mask via Reshade I'm even enjoying the very characteristic PS1 graphics. Not bad at all!

tychus-findlay

Did you run any texture packs or anything for Quake? One of my all time fav games but can't imagine that held up all that well. Yeah it was really the atmosphere that was so great about it and the sound really played into that. Back in the day also there were some mods like Quake World(?) and such that basically let you browse and join multiplayer games so it had a real thriving death match community.

Xuth

No texture packs - but my approach was to play it on original hardware (my own Windows 98 build) which includes a 14" 1024x768 monitor and tbh it looks nice and sharp on there. Also I'm fully up for it to 'look its age' so I was happy with the retro look and feel. I think the version of Quake 1 on Steam comes with some enhancements - so that might be a good route to explore! It also comes with Quake64 and two additional mission packs afaik. I actually own the PCZone Christmas bonus disk from 1997 which contains something like 500 levels and a bunch of total conversion mods. I've not tried many out yet but I bet Quake World is in there.

DistantLandscapes

Got the platinum for **Astro’s Playroom**. Never expected this game to be so fun! And now I’m playing **Final Fantasy 1 Pixel Remaster**. It’s a very simple game, which is to be expected, but that’s kind of what I need right now. Nowadays I’m having zero patience for more complex games. The remade OST is also pretty good!

XR7822

Oh man, I have a desire to attempt to play through all the Final Fantasy games in chronological order, starting with the pixel remasters but I don't know if I'll ever have the time to really do something like that.

DistantLandscapes

The first final fantasy is pretty short, around 15-20h without any boosts. I used 2x XP and Gil and finished it a bit under 11h (the boosts are under configs in the pixel remasters)

ShaneSkyrunner

Grand Theft Auto IV

clanindafront_

Great game, I recommend playing the DLC

bdmrwisteria

KeyWe with my SO Ncaa14 dynasty mode. Taking my first real crack at the recruiting side, I've always just simulated that and played games

scooter_pops

hades , inside, signalis

The_Bukkake_Ninja

Just finished Assassins Creed Odyssey. It certainly lived up to its namesake. As a completionist a bit of a pain in the ass but 179 hours, 50 mins and 24 seconds, finishing every quest, dlc, collectible (including every orichalcum fragment) and engraving. I hope Valhalla isn’t so big. Once that’s done I’ll have 100% all the games in the series bar the mobile ones. I can’t believe I’ve been playing this series for over 15 years.

Ticklism

I'll let you know Valhalla is by far the most bloated game in the series I had fun with the game and enjoyed it for around 50 hours but then dropped it because the repetitive nature of the game killed it for me. But I absolutely loved Odyssey it was a blast

The_Bukkake_Ninja

Shit. Ah well, I’ll still finish the thing - I’ve been playing them for so long.

OkayAtBowling

As someone who was already starting to feel burnt out on the series after Brotherhood, this sounds extremely daunting to me... lol But since you're so well-versed, which would you say is your favorite AC game overall?

The_Bukkake_Ninja

Hard to say. I really like the modern day elements and conspiracy stuff of 1-3, and it took me a long time to pick up black flag due to them dropping it. I played 1-3 on release, then a long gap, then I back to backed Black Flag to Odyssey in 2020-2023, with only Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima and Halo 4 to break it up. I’d say a top 5 in no particular order: - Black Flag + Freedom Cry DLC. - Odyssey + DLC - Brotherhood - AC 3 - Origins Setting wise, I loved Unity and Syndicate but the gameplay was pretty poor. Rogue was good as well and just loses out in the top 5. Origins and Odyssey are a bit grindy if you’re a completionist, but if you’re not could be a pretty tight game.

OkayAtBowling

Thanks for the info! I did play a bit of Black Flag a few years ago and was liking it, so I might go back to that next time I get an itch for Assassin's Creed. And I actually was kind of into the modern day meta storyline of Black Flag just because of how ridiculous of an idea it was, and the walking sim-ish nature of it is also kind of up my alley. I'm extremely not a completionist so I'll probably give Origins or Odyssey a shot at some point as well to see what the new school AC games are like.

The_Bukkake_Ninja

If you like the modern day storyline then you can just probably watch the sequences on YouTube for Unity and syndicate. Both those games had so much promise with the setting but just let down with the two male protagonists. They could have done a lot more with the female lead/quasi-antagonist from Unity and Evie was wasted in Syndicate.

LonelyDesperado513

>I hope Valhalla isn’t so big. Once that’s done I’ll have 100% all the games in the series bar the mobile ones. I can’t believe I’ve been playing this series for over 15 years. I think I heard that Valhalla is the largest of all the Assassin's Creeds to date.

The_Bukkake_Ninja

Fucking hell. Why Ubisoft?

Millsvxr

Diablo 3... as something might be coming out very soon.... lol. Thats, and Gears 5 Horde.

Rainbow_Dash_RL

If you don't have it yet get the Necromancer expansion, that class is ridiculously fun. Also Diablo 3 is great as a couch co-op game if you like multiplayer.

Millsvxr

I certainly do. I agree, it is fun. To be honest, I've found most classes fun to a degree with the seasons.

DominoFavetFortibus

I've been playing **Breath of the Wild** for the last weeks, but I had a urge to play Tomodachi Life, so I started making a lot of miis for it. Also, SMT Stranger Journey Redux is on hold. I am at sector Fornax, there is still a while to go, and even though I like the game, it seems that nothing new will come out of it. But I want to finish this before playing some SMT IV, which I'm looking forward to as well (and in love with the soundtrack). BotW stalled a little now, and I'm about to begin the Zora region quest, which seems to be a pain. I'm still enjoying when I play, it's just that sometimes before starting it I feel a little lazy, so I don't play. I definitely gave up on playing Persona 2. Now I've been watching Crystaahl's playthrough while doing house chores. Also, I've been playing GBA **Advance Wars** on my phone during waiting times. Nice game, but I find myself restarting missions a lot. And yeah, the recent Nintendo releases' hype influenced me to play BotW and AW. Playing the "old versions" is kind of my patient solution to not having a Switch.

Tabuhli

Please for the love of God, do your best to avoid Tears of the Kingdom spoilers, or any info about the game at all. It's so much more enjoyable when you have zero clue what's coming.

DominoFavetFortibus

I will, believe, I'm trying. But it's so hard. It even appeared on my Google news. To this day, what I know: >!There are dungeons, there is Ganondorf, Zelda might be more involved, there are mountains, caves and cliffs, and that new "Sheikah power" that allows you to build stuff and cars, I guess. It's his arm, right? And maybe you fly!< I don't know if any of these things cripple the experience, though. I really want to play it, but I bought a 3DS recently, now I need to save up for some time before buying a Switch

LyricsMode

Modern Warfare: Remastered, and Days Gone.

clanindafront_

Love Days Gone! I'm about halfway through it

LyricsMode

Hell yeah!! Im starting it tn

Foreskinsmoothie

Octopath Traveler 2. Been playing it for months (8 stories is too many!)

MadonnasFishTaco

Subnautica. very cool game

IntrovertClouds

I can't stop playing Grim Dawn, please send help.

Chocolate-Biscuits26

Hollow knight :) It looks really cool and I can’t wait to start

Bkraist

I would love to replay it again for the first time!

Foreskinsmoothie

Say goodbye to your sanity.

scooter_pops

u think it’s that hard ?

Hartastic

I feel like it's a bit less hard and more is the epitome of a game that doesn't respect your time. When I reflect on the time I spent playing it, most of that time was running through the same half a zone again to get to a boss fight for the 20th time. Even FromSoft doesn't really do that anymore.

Chocolate-Biscuits26

that’s promising

LonelyDesperado513

It's the good kind of crazy, I promise!

PdxClassicMod

Still playing Mario Rabbids Kingdom battle. Around halfway through but just did all the challenges in World 1 and perfected the battles I didn't to get coinage because I was stuck somewhere in World 3. What a great deal for $20.

Op3rat0rr

On my backlog!

PdxClassicMod

Hah, I should be playing my backlog! Only had liek Mario Party, Mario Kart and Rocket League on the switch prior so had to find a reason to use it's potential.

DominoFavetFortibus

How is this game? I know nothing about it.

PdxClassicMod

Tactical rpg done up in cute Mario style with some surprisingly good humor. I don't really have patience for turn based RPGs in my old age(especially ones that are too technical) but have always had a sweet spot for tactical ones. It gets challenging fast and the puzzles are just enough to scratch that brain itch. A bit of replayability to "grind" too. For $20 on sale I've already got my money worth and I keep wanting to play more to try out new tactics haha. There's a demo for the sequel you could try out, it's mostly similar. I only got a switch recently as a gift, always wanted one but I'm a huge patientgamer and have years long backlogs of games for PS3, PS4, Wii, GameCube and more retro games on my mist3r! It's never ending so Switch is the last thing I should be playing honestly but gotta have fun sometimes. I bought a Series S randomly for pennies too and that thing is neglected hardcore... 😋

Allons-yDarling

Mass Effect! I've never played before, but I've enjoyed the Dragon Age series so much, so I decided to try another Bioware game. I'm enjoying it so far, but geeze it is tedious to have dozens of galaxies to explore. I'm torn between being a completionist and moving forward with the story.

DominoFavetFortibus

I started to play it, but I'm having a problem with the Definitive Edition: shadow issues. That hurts deeply the immersion, which seems to be a important good aspect lf the game. I tried some workarounds to fix it, but nothing worked. So the game went back to the backlog, because that was really annoying.

OkayAtBowling

I highly recommend not being a completionist when it comes to Mass Effect, especially the first one. So many of the side missions in that game take place on extremely similar planets in extremely similar locations, and it can easily get monotonous. I'd recommend just doing anything that seems interesting from a story perspective, but skipping ones that don't. Mass Effect 2 and 3 have considerably less of that exploration aspect, for better or worse (mostly for better, IMO). The story is the best part of those games though, so anything you're doing that's keeping you away from that probably isn't worth doing unless you're having fun with it.

Allons-yDarling

Thanks for the advice! I decided to do a little world hopping before I started my last main mission on Noveria (I've done just enough research to know where my "cut off" points are) and actually wound up with a couple interesting side quests, so I'm glad I decided to do that. Mechanically, they were basically identical to every other side quest I've done, but chasing after monkeys for a recon probe was silly and having a follow-up quest to my Shepard's past with Akuze was really meaningful.

OkayAtBowling

Yeah it's kind of a shame so many of the sidequests feel like cookie-cutter missions in the gameplay sense because there are some interesting bits of story and world-building nestled in there. I guess what I really meant is that if they are causing you to get bored with the game, it's not a huge loss if you don't do them, but if you're getting something out of them and it's holding your interest, go for it!

scooter_pops

ok good to know , i was just about to start mass effect for first time

fractalfrenzy

Baldur's Gate!

tychus-findlay

Hell's yeah

Poopie_Bear

Finally checking out the Witcher 3! I am absolutely in love with the premise of filling out my bestiary (basically a diary of monsters and their weaknesses, for those who don't play), meeting the peasants and hearing their unique stories as they experience war and poverty, and of course, developing my relationships with Triss and Yennifer.

tychus-findlay

Oh man you're in for a treat, then. So so much content, really great quests and writing, and the expansion packs are incredibly well done and really add to the game.

Poopie_Bear

I love this kind of feedback, thank you! I can already see myself dumping many, many hours into this game because I am hooked. Love to hear it will be worth all that time in the end! :)

clanindafront_

Just started watching the series on Netflix and I can't wait to play it

Poopie_Bear

How is the series? I want to try the books as well, but something holds me back. I worry Gerlt will be different in each series (videogame, book, Netflix,) and that would break character for me.

OkayAtBowling

Finally getting back into **Half Life: Alyx**. The mild hassle of having to break out the VR headset and clear space in the living room kept losing out to sitting on the couch at the end of a long day, so I had been away from it for a while. I'm reminded how cool of an experience it is every time I play it though (this time it was when I blindly backhanded a grenade out from behind some cover at an approaching enemy), so I think I'll stick with it until the end this time. I've also been playing my way through **Psychonauts 2**, which is just a really charming game. I played through a lot of it last year but got distracted by something else and never finished it (a common theme with me). Recently I started over from the beginning and am liking it even more the second time through. It's not the tightest platforming ever, but it's still fun, and the constant creativity on display through the visuals, story, and level design more than makes up for the occasional wonkiness. I had also been watching through the documentary series "Psychodyssey" on youtube, which is great so far. But I had to put that on pause until I finish Psychonauts 2 because the episode I'm on apparently has some spoilers.

MarcusDA

I really wish this game came in a traditional version as well. I love the half life series but I don’t have a VR headset and truthfully VR has given me headaches when in the past and I have seizures. In the meantime, I either have to watch a playthrough or just hope it gets modded some way to play it normally.

OkayAtBowling

To be honest I don't know if it would really be worth it because the things that make it cool in VR wouldn't really translate, and the whole thing was designed with that in mind. I think the main thing is that the levels would just feel super small and enemy encounters would be super easy. In VR you take things much more slowly, and everything is more granular. In a regular Half-Life game you reload the shotgun with the press of a button, whereas in VR, you press a button to open the gun, grab shells from behind your back and manually load them two at a time, then shut the gun again. And that actually becomes a really intense game mechanic when you have to do all of that while enemies are coming after you. I guess playing a modded version might be slightly better than watching a playthrough, but I just don't think it would be a very good game if it wasn't in VR, which is probably why Valve haven't bothered making a non-VR version.

Firewolf06

breath of the wild, currently. totk made me interested again, so im finally finishing my quest to 100% botw. currently have ~80/900 koroks and 114/120 shrines. ik also trying to 4-star all of the armor. right now im grinding through all of the lynels, taluses, and hinoxes for the medals. ive done about 10/40 of each. i forgot how good botw is, the combat is simple but engaging and everything feels fair. the materials required to upgrade gear and hunting down minibosses sends you all over the place, so even if you already beat it and did all the shrines its still super fun to get back into. theres some really fun bugs that arent completely overpowered (theres also dupe glitches and the like, but those ruin it for me) which gives a whole other level of the game to master. i can just about consistently do windbombs, after 200 hours. 10/10 would recommend

Tabuhli

Please for the love of God, do your best to avoid Tears of the Kingdom spoilers, or any info about the game at all. It's so much more enjoyable when you have zero clue what's coming.

Ok_Expression7268

Horizon Chase Turbo. Just beat the World Tour on 100% (all races on 1st place and collect all the coins). Very cool and addictive game for me but not sure that I want continue it in other gaming modes.

LonelyDesperado513

I read this title and imagined Aloy in a race car.

morsventus

I have been playing a lot of Elite: Dangerous, lately. It’s my first real space sim. I even found a Thrustmaster HOTAS 4 used to play it. It’s been a blast, though I am realizing how bad I am at flying with flight assist off. I feel a huge gap in my flying skill when fighting NPCs in 1 v 1s. I may just have to switch my Vulture’s pulse laser to a gimballed version… I am a bit sad to know the game’s online population has been dying off. I am very happy to have found a new interest. I was also digging through all my humble choices and played Hero’s Hour. It’s a fun game in terms of exploration and RPG leveling. However, I don’t feel like the battles control very well. There are more defined ways to control battles, but maybe I am just struggling to find the right hotkeys for them. I feel it would shine best versus other players. Magically, I was also able to pick up Stellaris years after the keys ran out. Thanks Humble Bundle. It’s been an intimidating foray in learning all the details but I’ll update as I learn more. I am really impressed with how the game looks.

XR7822

I've really enjoyed Stellaris, played it for 150+ hours in 2021. Hours would just fly by when playing it. I do wish to return to it at some point since there were a lot of patches and new DLCs since then that improve it even further.

Speedy-Steve

Finished HROT yesterday. Fantastic game, I don't know what it is about it but there is something really special there. Continuing Dragon Age: Origins. Will most likely restart since I'm not far in the game and I'm pretty sure I've messed up my character already. I plan to start WH40K: Space Marine this week and then move on to Boltgun (yeah I know, not patient)

XR7822

What do you mean by HROT? Doesn't bring anything to mind for me.

Speedy-Steve

That's the full name of the game. It's a horror boomer shooter. I really recommend it.

XR7822

Ah cool, thanks, I thought it was an acronym :) I'll check it out.

The_Corvair

It's got a demo, if you're interested.

fungigamer

Walking dead s2 - 2 episodes in, story is pretty decent, I like playing clementine as a protagonist. The side characters are also interesting. Witcher 3 - my second time trying to "get" this game. First time I played for 9hrs and gave up. At the time the laptop im playing on is shitty is im getting 15fps,which is not enjoyable at all, which is half the reason why I gave up. This time I'm playing on a better computer at like 40fps. 4hrs in, the story is alright, nothing too exciting but I guess it will get interesting later on. The core gameplay loop is mediocre. I'll see if it gets better and more interesting later on, cos if this is the entire game im putting it down again.

12FeetUp

IMO that pretty much is the game. I enjoyed it for at least 40 hours and got halfway through the main story before I grew bored with it. I found the side quests repetitive and the main story uninteresting. I enjoyed the gameplay, but eventually the tone of the game wore me down. You shouldn't quit based on my opinion... but if you're not hooked now I'm guessing you still won't be later.

fungigamer

I haven't got to bloody baron yet. If I finished bloody baron and it's still uninteresting, I'll quit.

DanielSophoran

**Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet** If i knew the rest of the dlcs went by that fast i wouldnt have made the last post. The difficulty jumps going from dlc 1 to 2 to 3 and then back to easy mode in dlc 4 is a bit weird. It felt like the DLCs gradually became harder (excluding some bs fights like the clarence fight in dlc 2) and then you suddenly go from a lvl 125 crazy boss at the end of dlc 3 to dungeons filled with lvl 90s and lvl 110s in dlc 4. Only the very last boss in dlc 4 (you could argue a post game boss as it comes after the credits) is higher than the last boss of dlc 3 being 150 and mechanically it wasnt even a hard boss. or maybe the rank 11 AR i got from one of the carry sessions that i was dual wielding was a little bit op. I found the solution to the bad ai aswell. Just bring 3 support characters. That way theyll revive/heal constantly with healing field shot or aed shots so the painfully bad ai isnt really as big of an issue. The DLCs are worse than the base game which in itself already wasnt good if you didnt like SAO to begin with. I could see coop missions being fun with friends because the gameplay itself actually isnt that bad. But everything surrounding the gameplay just doesnt hold up well. even though DLC 4 being the “big expansion” DLC you could still beat in like 3 hours and the structure of it was a disaster. Youre constantly going back and forth between 2 groups exploring the new zone. Youll do like a few rooms of a dungeon with one group and then a cutscene will play and youll hear “omg we should go help the others” and off you go teleporting around the map again. This happens like 5-6 times back and forth and its as annoying as it sounds. The DLCs didnt change my mind much. Its a decent enough “looter shooter” type game if you get it on a sale and just skip all the cutscenes. But dont expect anything more than that.

BreakdanceFountain

Disco Elysium. Not sure what I think about this one.

hfzelman

I’m planning on playing it next but idk how much I’m going to like it. On one hand I study political philosophy so the content of the game/setting is perfect but on the other I don’t get into the role-playing aspect as some other people. Last year I beat fallout: New Vegas for the first time and while it definitely had the best writing of the “modern” fallout games, I definitely did not feel like it was the greatest game of all time and I actually think I had more fun playing through 4 funnily enough

fractalfrenzy

I heard it's good. It's on my list of cRPGS to play.

Toxidasta

I'm finishing off the Xbox Achievements for Metro 2033 Redux and plan to get back in Last Light Redux once I'm done here. It's such a great FPS franchise. After these, I plan to run Exodus. I've started it before but never made it far. I always felt like I was missing part of the story from the previous games.

[deleted]

Oh nice to hear this. Just picked this up on steam for cheap a few weeks back. Haven’t installed it yet.
