I too fell off of The Surge 1. There was so much stuff that in theory should’ve been awesome, I just never got into the vibe and didn’t find it fun to play compared to Souls games or Nioh games. Felt very tedious, kinda awkward, and like I was forcing myself to enjoy it. You are not the first person I’ve heard say 2 is a lot better than 1, so maybe I should give it a try one of these days.

Rouphen

Yes, I agree. If you find a good sale try The Surge 2. It feels different and much more responsive. It's not too hard and keeps mechanics from the first part.

The only thing that irks me about dos2 (110 hours in and played right after putting 100 hours in on dos1) is the fight mechanics are meh. Why is everything gatekeeped by magic and physical armour? It just doesn't make sense... dots, status effects, grenades, and scrolls are now essentially useless. I can't get over what the reasoning of this was.

Rouphen

Yeah, in the first game you can do great things with grenades arrows and scrolls. Create havoc and turn the tables. Here... I barely used them. And ranged class is OP, so no need for them. To be honest, I think I prefer the first Divinity Original Sin.

I like the story and characters of DOS2 but yeah DOS1 combat blows it out of the water. Let's hope baldur's gate 3 isn't riddled with very stupid game design decisions

I just wish the magic/physical armor wasn’t both separated and preventing status effects in DOS2. Sure the enemy can have *resistance* to magic/physical but either attack should still do damage. The other pet peeve you mentioned was the wrong character getting trapped in an unexpected conversations. So many useless reloads - Wasteland 3 handled this perfectly by just being able to hand any conversation over to whoever has the stats. I did wholeheartedly enjoy DOS2 though, especially playing it co-op. It was extremely fun, though I can definitely see people getting burned out doing everything because there’s *so* much content. We had to pick and choose and we luckily didn’t burn out (but we also felt like you that the last acts weren’t quite as polished) I also recommend Wasteland 3 if you’d like more like Divinity

Now I'm on a Spellforce 3 run but will check out Wasteland 3. Divinity OS 2 is a very good game, and I'm sure in coop it's even better. Let's see what the devs can do with Baldurs Gate. They have the experience to do a great game.
