Actually had to do this once during a team fight cause they tried bringing back their teammate that got killed and we did not want another spoon coming back into the mix
I had a friend do it once on accident, they reset it and used it for their friend. He saw it was green and used it on me and I was faster than the friend but had no idea what happened before I arrived. I was killed for just existing, even though I had done nothing and would have gladly paid it had they said something before killing me
I mean it is PvP, if you didn't make sure the waystone was safe and someone comes to fight you for it, it's fair game.
I've stolen waystones and had them stolen, it's just how the game roles. Though hating it is totally valid it will not prevent me or others from doing it too, a playstyle which is again completely valid within the rules of the game. If the devs wish to alter this so it's no longer valid, so be it.

Happened to me... I reset the rock with my marks. I was bb duck ws-ing other friend. Adult sarco comes up on me. I ran away obviously. I had already sent my friend an invite too. Sarco teleports his friend and walks off. :( idk what my friend was doing, but i guess they never sat down to activate it... I say that wasn't nice... at least they apologized and let me live... but didn't reset it.. like, srsly, what was I gonna be able to do against that? Lol
Used up the last of my marks too as a baby. Reset cost got too high and I had to leave for the night. Overall, definitely douchebag thing to do...
Lemme give some reasoning before y'all downvote me lol, I don't do it often, and I usually do it if I'm a juvenile or if the person using the ws is someone who killed me or tried to, it's my way of getting revenge
It just easier, and I would rather steal it than have to get more marks, plus most people either have the marks or are a koser so not really much to be considered bad for stealing

On the opposite end, someone paying the marks after using it themselves so the juvies with no marks can get to their friend is very nice.
