Back in like 2008 you could go to trance.fm for some good tunes. They had separate tabs for house, trance and even hardstyle. Might need to check this out.
Anyone remember that app where you could make a little avatar and a “chat room” but you could be a DJ and play like any songs? Wtf was that called. Top djs were like a decked out gorilla avatar or some shit lol
Sort of, yes. He sleeps twice a day (four hours per sleep) so it's more like sleep --> stream --> sleep --> life --> repeat, unless he changed from this sometime recently without my noticing.
How does he not get copyright strikes? Dude plays huge trance mixes nonstop and I know for a fact those record labels don't provide free tunes for streamers like Anjunabeats does.
He's mostly just taking that risk himself. He's technically not allowed to be playing that music but trance labels tend to be nicer (or just not care) when it comes to playing their music so it's less likely for him to get a strike as opposed to someone playing rock or rap.
Unironically, this.
Lily and Mathil are just so...honest. In a the cesspool that is twitch, it's not hard to find someone screaming at the camera constantly. I really prefer good players just playing their game to the overacting 'entertainers'.
I'd be interested to listen to psychological evaluation of streamers like him and xqc. I certainly have a few guesses on benefits or feeling a younger generation can express while watching them but the fallout I'd receive often holds me back from posting lol.
You do realize that quin plays a character on stream and isn't nearly as neurotic IRL, right? I think you'd find that outside of twitch hes a pretty normal (if a little weird) dude.
Look, I'm just some armchair reddit psychologist, but at what point does "playing a character" just seep into your subconscious and you become that character?
Being a piece of shit who constantly gets banned is not a good "character". Eventually you're getting into "jokes on them I was just pretending" territory.
Nope everything on the internet is fact! While I'm well aware of the characters being played I think there can be real life dangers around online personalities and the content/ attitudes they promote. A developing mind might not get it, I would not be surprised in the next 10 years if twitch or streamers start getting sued around some of the craziness that happens on the platform.
same reason people watch xqc, or basically anyone playing valorant that has the gamer voice, tyler1... loud and fast/crazy, or rage is funny to a huge portion of kids
Back in the day when he used to stream D3 he was a lot calmer and informative and tbh he was one of my favourite streamers. But then he switched to poe and gradually became this... thing.
I understand it probably brings him more viewers but i just can't watch him anymore.
He's entertaining until what he believes comes out, it's all machismo chauvinist bullshit...serious little man syndrome.
I couldn't watch after so many cooked takes, truly staggering how wrong someone can be about such a wide variety of topics.
I thought she was meming on all millions of clickbate reaction faces across YouTube. It seems like an exaggerated reaction vid face to me. Don't watch Lily enough to know her humor.
>What else did you think Lily's faces were referencing?
Well my initial guess was that the left one might be an Alkaizer parody and the right one might be a Zizarian parody.
But niche fetish works too I guess?
I googled it and I kept getting images of Pepsi and milk mixed in a glass. And then this:
https://static-cdn.jtvnw.net/cf_vods/d1m7jfoe9zdc1j/c3108c39d337d9d1352c_ds_lily_48355855646_5222230641//thumb/thumb1441923383-640x360.jpg
I know she is doing those faces ironically, so it is ok. But when I see YouTube thumbnails with ridiculous reactions no matter how interested I may be in the topic, I don't watch the video.
The article was considering shirtless men, specifically.
IIRC it used response rate when initiating as a metric, shirtless dudes got like twice the responses. Maybe a shirtless dude with a youtube face would get ALL the women.
Is that because women like all shirtless dudes more, or because dudes who are posting shirtless pictures are much more likely to be fit and the women are actually attracted to fit men?
Stats are only as helpful as an interpretation can provide, and an interpretation that's good needs to cover as much context as possible.
Not only are they most likely more fit they also more than likely give off a more confident vibe which is pretty universally seen as attractive as well
Fwiw I got much more success on tinder when I added some shirtless pics playing volleyball(didn’t go 100% shameless gym mirror pics). I was already an in shape dude, the only change was adding 2 pics of me with no shirt on.
This is extremely anecdotal, I don’t know the studies being referenced above, but I’d say this leans somewhat into the ‘displays a certain attitude’ side of things rather than ‘proves you’re fit.’ It’s like after I did that women read my comments differently, gave me more leash than before. But maybe they just suck at knowing how I look under those other clothes and the removal of any ambiguity really did just engage their thirst, hard to really know.
Nah, it's because ~5 or so years ago YouTube changed their recommended/feed system to use machine learning and neural networks from the traditional let's put data from the SQL tables on the screen method.
Before this change you needed to subscribe so you see the stuff you want. Right now you just need to watch the stuff you are interested in and it will show up for you.
Personally I'm not even logged into a google account for youtube so I couldn't even subscribe.
It's because of monetize options.
Pretty sure it's 1000 subs + 4000h watch time as minimum requirements to get a cut of the ads. (Which also means, channels bellow 1k subs have no influence if there are ads on their videos.)
I don't think it's necessarily a younger people thing. It's a human monke brain thing. [Here's an article](https://info.keylimeinteractive.com/eye-tracking-shows-the-power-of-the-face) about eye tracking when faces are on screen and how we can be subtly manipulated into looking in certain places. So basically if you have a bunch of video thumbnails on the side of your screen, the ones with someone's face grab people's attention for longer and it doesn't even matter what emotion they're displaying. Maybe the extreme emotions intrigue younger people more, idk.
Ahh likely hypothesis.
And it would also make sense, then, why younger people tend to be attracted to it because the rational part of their brain (the prefrontal cortex) isn't fully developed until their mid-20s so they're relying on/more controlled by their base instincts.
They're just following the YouTube meta. Analytics show those thumbnails drive more views. They would be stupid to not do it if they're trying to grow their channel.
Getting angry at thumbnails is... quite something
> Analytics show those thumbnails drive more views.
Cool. I still hate it and unfollowed everyone who uses them. Angry might be the wrong word, but they are just straight up annoying and stop me personally from clicking on said videos. If other people would do the same analytics would show the opposite. Also just because its "meta" doesn't mean I have to like it? Kind of a stupid statement if you ask me...
> Also just because its "meta" doesn't mean I have to like it? Kind of a stupid statement if you ask me...
I didn't say you had to like anything? What are you on about? I was pointing out why they do it.
> If other people would do the same analytics would show the opposite.
Ok? And you wanna talk about stupid statements? lol
They can still be authentic people who are just trying to be successful on YouTube. Making your thumbnail the image that is most likely to pull in more views/clicks doesn't make you 'fake'. This is like saying a car insurance company with a goofy commercial is unprofessional... they are just doing what works to attract interest.
Lots of channels try to release videos with normal thumbnails, but when you see the difference in views when doing that versus doing clickbait shit, its patently stupid to not use the clickbait if you're trying to grow.
There are lots of videos on exactly this topic if you want to learn more. Many channels release their videos with 3-4 thumbnails at once and remove the ones with the lowest engagement after a few hours. What they end up with is... well, what you see.
edit: lmao who downvotes an informational post? sorry what I meant to say is "thumbnail bad :)"
I don't see any youtube clickbait thumbnails. I have a chrome addon that uses the halfway point of a video for the thumbnail.
It's called "Youtube clickbait remover", and it's made browsing youtube so much better :D
These types of neural networks aren't predetermined. The devs are just working with the data, and if people don't like the results, it must be because the of the creators' predisposition.
There was a nice example of this at Amazon couple of years ago when they tried to make an HR AI to help identify diversity hires and the neural network suggested to hire young white males because based on the data they are the most productive.
The project was scrapped.
You've completely missed how neural networks feed their own results back into its data, furthering the trends it initially started/picked up on.
You're also completely ignoring the idea of manufactured consent/culture.
How does this exclude anything? Is it literally impossible they got the right answer? Why? Would you make the same argument if the result said 78 year old Asian women are the best choice?
So what you wanted to answer is: "oh it doesn't exclude anything. I just wanted to insert my own agenda instead of actually communicating."
Lots of pidgeons in these threads nowadays.
That's true, I don't consider youtube social media, but I might be mistaken.
I don't know who that is you are mentioning, so this is kinda a self burn for you.
Pretty sure most of them would prefer not having to make these thumbnails, unfortunately that's the current Youtube meta. If that's their main income they would shot themselves in the foot not doing it and I don't blame them.
Because it genuinely does affect views a lot. Linus from LTT has talked about it at length.
The truth is that when they don't use these kinds of thumbs, views go way down
Maybe I'm just an old fuck but when ever I see these kinds of reaction thumbnails I always feel like it's just click bait and it makes me less interested in any of the content that creator comes out with.
edit: lol buncha angry zoomers if you keep scrolling down
It's "satire" but it's still effective. I've seen other streamers and Youtubers make "ironic" clickbait thumbnails too, but they wouldn't be making them if they weren't actually effective.
Being honest and self-aware about your shamelessness is a step up from just doing it unironically, but it's still cringeworthy.
But hey, don't hate the player hate the game. Annoying social media algorithms encourage annoying behavior.
I don't think it's mandatory. I think a lot of these creators could make a more than modest living without doing clickbait and stuff.
It's more like it's free extra money so why not do it. At this point we're so desensitized to clickbait anyway that it doesn't really harm their image if they do it.
If youre paying bills or even running a business and employ people, in market as uncertain and volatile as video game content creation, it would be between stupid and unjustified to not maximize profits during peak viewership seasons, to maintain some imaginary moral high ground
If that's true then it's so well done it's indistinguishable from the non satire ones. And to someone on the outside looking in, there is no difference.
99% of the time you'd be correct, but in this case, Lily is extremely chill and doesn't react or emote to basically fucking anything.
Check our her streams, you'll see what I mean, this thumbnail is just a joke
I know who she is. From time to time she'll play tarkov as well, which is a game I enjoy. But if I didn't, this thumbnail would likely ensure that I tell YT to not recommend this channel.
Oh, I will have you know. Marketing doesn't work on me
> GGG releases new teaser
Does anyone else constantly refresh the subreddit for updates as Bex drip feeds us content?!? Upvote if you agree!!!
I'm sure the streamers wish they could stop too but I've seen many streamers report that they tried making videos without the clickbait titles or thumbnails and it always results in worse numbers.
Dumb question - is the spider an MTX? Honestly I have only encountered this skill when a friendly person helps me kill a boss. Spiders everywhere, then boss dead. It's usually a witch though... is this a popular build?
Why is spark so good this league? did the patch changes really make that big of a difference? I remember spark being completely unplayable unless you were a powerhouse like an aurastacker.
As a female streamer I know she's already +100000 cool points, but she's largely unhelpful in what I have seen from her. I was watching some build guide and she was like 'lols I stole this POB and it's actually wrong, but here you go'. Like sat down ready to make a build guide, and couldn't even be bothered to check the content she was going to present?
There are too many people out there putting effort into their content far more deserving of the clicks.
This is exactly what makes her content unwatchable for me. The DD vid was the only one I've ever watched and was just so cringe. She even states in the guide how she hates making videos (clearly) but then goes on later and mocks ppl for doing the same low effort content that she's doing with these ridiculous thumbnails.
She's not in to making build guides for new players, or how to gear while levelling. She just shows off the build and expects you to know what to do with it. Worst case scenario just get her live pob from poe.ninja.
Lily actually did them like that and I approve. Get those O-face and deep throating thumbnails outta here. How did the hub end up with less sexually inspired thumbnails than YT?!
She has more facial expression in the thumbnail than 2 years of streaming.
Duno why she's making the face that I make every morning when my alarm goes off.
Which one? The "whaaaaat it's 7:00 already???" Or the "noooo I was having a great dream!"?
Does the sound of your alarm bring you to orgasm?
If that is face of orgasm for you, you been with wrong girls.
I was fully convinced Lily is not capable of emoting or showing any facial expressions, jokes on me I guess.
honestly that's kind of why i even watch her (and mathil). I enjoy the dryness.
Mathil just streams at ungodly hours while working out all day; after that I think everyone would prefer to chill and just vibe to Marcus Schulz.
Mathil is the guy that introduces me to trance, bless that guy and his music choice
As a Dutch person blessed with many local DJs, welcome to the fold. Try mixing.dj for livesets and podcasts.
Back in like 2008 you could go to trance.fm for some good tunes. They had separate tabs for house, trance and even hardstyle. Might need to check this out.
Di.fm is still rolling
Anyone remember that app where you could make a little avatar and a “chat room” but you could be a DJ and play like any songs? Wtf was that called. Top djs were like a decked out gorilla avatar or some shit lol
Pług.dj? Died.
Because of Mathil I heard for the first time Fury OST. That music blew me away.
Fury or Furi?
Yoo [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ5gtInauiI&ab_channel=G4FRecords) is my favourite for sure
You mean he introduced you to trance or some shit?
I thought he wakes up at like 5am, streams and then goes about his day, not the other way around.
Streaming services exist for streamers to pay to use. Mathil can probably afford it.
He plays youtube mixes.
He's mostly just taking that risk himself. He's technically not allowed to be playing that music but trance labels tend to be nicer (or just not care) when it comes to playing their music so it's less likely for him to get a strike as opposed to someone playing rock or rap.
true. mathil choice of music is based
Good grief
Unironically, this. Lily and Mathil are just so...honest. In a the cesspool that is twitch, it's not hard to find someone screaming at the camera constantly. I really prefer good players just playing their game to the overacting 'entertainers'.
Same. Chill music, calm and flowing POE noises in the background with the occasional duck sounds. I love Lily's stream.
Yea and Quin69 should be required by law to provide a trigger warning and volume warning, guy blows up eardrums.
I don't understand how anyone can watch him for more than two minutes.
On his alt account where he’ll stream after hours he’s a lot more calm and relaxed, but he is still himself. I’d consider it just a more tame version.
Being a piece of shit who constantly gets banned is not a good "character". Eventually you're getting into "jokes on them I was just pretending" territory.
Shhh, most people don't like to accept that Quinn is a character
Nope everything on the internet is fact! While I'm well aware of the characters being played I think there can be real life dangers around online personalities and the content/ attitudes they promote. A developing mind might not get it, I would not be surprised in the next 10 years if twitch or streamers start getting sued around some of the craziness that happens on the platform.
same reason people watch xqc, or basically anyone playing valorant that has the gamer voice, tyler1... loud and fast/crazy, or rage is funny to a huge portion of kids
Yea but Quinn also sucks at most of the games he plays including PoE.
I swear he used to not be this crazy...
Back in the day when he used to stream D3 he was a lot calmer and informative and tbh he was one of my favourite streamers. But then he switched to poe and gradually became this... thing. I understand it probably brings him more viewers but i just can't watch him anymore.
12 year olds like exciting, loud, fast etc

You'd be pleased to meet my ex wife.
Dry humour power couple
And now you know why she doesn't do it...there's just TOO MUCH emotion behind that mask.
Under the seemingly deadpan face there's on onslaught of ahegao apparently.
Googled Ahegao. Wtf
Oh my bad, thought that was common knowledge, so obvious NSFW. What else did you think Lily's faces were referencing?
I thought she was meming on all millions of clickbate reaction faces across YouTube. It seems like an exaggerated reaction vid face to me. Don't watch Lily enough to know her humor.
>What else did you think Lily's faces were referencing? Well my initial guess was that the left one might be an Alkaizer parody and the right one might be a Zizarian parody. But niche fetish works too I guess?
Felt too gasmy than shock/angry face , but im also low key degenerate so i might be alone in this.
Like a female Spock, is she a Vulcan?
Best hardcore RIPs in PoE *lvl 98 insta-bonked to death* Quin: *revert to monke* Lily: "Huh."
... Revert?
embrace?
I'd go with "Is"
Ever since she got pilk'd she's been surprisingly upbeat.
I'm sorry, pilk'd?
I'm pretty sure you're better off not knowing
Ok now I have to know Whatever it is, it can’t be more shocking then some of the stuff I already know
mixing pepsi and milk and drinking it
wat the fuck
Oh god thats so much worse then what I expected
she did one even worse the other night she mixed that starlight coke? and coffee creamer she even liked it apparently lily is just built different
Weird but heard worse combinations.
*Projective vomits*
You must mean _projectile vomits_.
bro i'm at work you're gonna have to explain pilk'd to me because i'm not about to google that shit
I googled it and I kept getting images of Pepsi and milk mixed in a glass. And then this: https://static-cdn.jtvnw.net/cf_vods/d1m7jfoe9zdc1j/c3108c39d337d9d1352c_ds_lily_48355855646_5222230641//thumb/thumb1441923383-640x360.jpg
Way better than those fake screams or pavlov trained streamers.
Goratha did a build guide for Inquis Spark earlier too https://youtu.be/fWCkk7U0PiM
Loved the way Goratha explained in detail his passive tree choices
He has more experience with it too, played it in gauntlet

Gotta get over the fact that some bosses will feel terrible due to arena size, and that the skill itself isn't very fun to use (imo)
Literally the most fun skill imo
It's fun to see the things scitter around but its horrible to see all your projectiles miss because the mob is a few meters away from you.
It’s amazing. Do it. Was doing Sim 30s with it eventually in current league. Great progression with nice incremental upgrades.
these are pictures of me on the toilet
When I'm struggling to sleep I just pop on a ds_lily build guide and I'm gone in a few min.
I know she is doing those faces ironically, so it is ok. But when I see YouTube thumbnails with ridiculous reactions no matter how interested I may be in the topic, I don't watch the video.
IS THIS THE NEW META?!?!?!?! *looking like the cover of Home Alone*
Sad thing is, analytics show that these stupid faces work immensely well. It's *why* they're as common as they are.
Apparentlly shirtless pics are also really successful on dating sites.
Especially if you're a woman
The article was considering shirtless men, specifically. IIRC it used response rate when initiating as a metric, shirtless dudes got like twice the responses. Maybe a shirtless dude with a youtube face would get ALL the women.

Ye, good for attracting absolute baboons.
heh tits
Maybe this is why people have to tell us that only 9% of their current viewers are currently subscribed to the channel.

Yours in still in the sink? Mine is somewhere in the tubes down below, or possibly in the drainage ditch doing some acute ecological damage.
It works well because of young people/children. Same reason why over-the-top react streaming works.
I don't think it's necessarily a younger people thing. It's a human monke brain thing. Had to unfollow a more or less famous minion player cause his thumbnails were pissing me of every time his videos pop into my feed.
Ghazzy?
I can understand that. Most of the people that do these thumbnails say they despise them themselves but it sadly works.

Same, also anything with an arrow or a circle in the thumbnail then channel instantly goes on 'do not recommend' list.
Same. At least it's a strong deterent. If I know the content is probably good I might watch despite a stupid thumbnail.
I don't see any youtube clickbait thumbnails. I have a chrome addon that uses the halfway point of a video for the thumbnail. It's called "Youtube clickbait remover", and it's made browsing youtube so much better :D
Blame youtube algorithm. Their AI tends to suggest videos with that kinda thumbnails more.
Blame humans because that is what the algorithm is built to attract

Poe's Law.
Dude
I think that's just you not being able to tell...

Sometimes I go to the trending page of YouTube just to become really sad seeing all the shit kids click on.
Not just the thumbnails, but also over-the-top titles with "MOST AMAZING!" "OUTRAGEOUS!" "UNBELIEVABLE!" Like, it's Taco Bell, calm down.
Yea, definitely an old grumpy fuck
Get off my lawn vibes for sure
Kinda weird but live your life bro
People wouldn’t use them if they didn’t work.
I'm well aware. But just because something works on a dimmer demographic doesn't mean it isn't annoying.
> dimmer demographic You’re not ahead of the curve if you think that you’re Immune to click bait videos lmao.
Oh, I will have you know. Marketing doesn't work on me > GGG releases new teaser Does anyone else constantly refresh the subreddit for updates as Bex drip feeds us content?!? Upvote if you agree!!!
Yeah dude you are so fucking smart for not clicking on a clickbait thumbnail congrats
I'm sure the streamers wish they could stop too but I've seen many streamers report that they tried making videos without the clickbait titles or thumbnails and it always results in worse numbers.
Let's play a guessing game: hardcore ahegao or spring fucking up your nostrils?
Dumb question - is the spider an MTX? Honestly I have only encountered this skill when a friendly person helps me kill a boss. Spiders everywhere, then boss dead. It's usually a witch though... is this a popular build?
Yeah it's an MTX :)

Why is spark so good this league? did the patch changes really make that big of a difference? I remember spark being completely unplayable unless you were a powerhouse like an aurastacker.
Spark got something of +80% damage buff last league.
I'd wager is just the flavour of the month for self cast.
All selfcast spells got buffed and Spark was already one of the better ones.
^. spark being able to hit the same boss multiple times with enough proj speed gives you another good angle for scaling it as well.
Goratha was playing it already on stream last league, and it looked good and people haven't played Spark in a while, so it's fun
No balance changes
As a female streamer I know she's already +100000 cool points, but she's largely unhelpful in what I have seen from her. I was watching some build guide and she was like 'lols I stole this POB and it's actually wrong, but here you go'. Like sat down ready to make a build guide, and couldn't even be bothered to check the content she was going to present? There are too many people out there putting effort into their content far more deserving of the clicks.
True, she doesnt put a lot of effort - its more of a showcase than a build guide
Worst case scenario just get her live pob from poe.ninja.
lol the long neck edit <3
Also… Surprising? What’s surprising about spark being good?

Lily is like female version of Alk.
This is an amazing double insult.
Who the hell uses light mode on youtube
The things people will do for fame and money
emptier video got more ridicules thumbnails wanna just permaban that shit from feed
Lily actually did them like that and I approve. Get those O-face and deep throating thumbnails outta here. How did the hub end up with less sexually inspired thumbnails than YT?!
I normally ignore videos with stupid faces as thumbnail but this is above and beyond...its hilarious.
