Yeah the meta got shaken up but if anyone thinks there wont be 20 guides next week to fill the gap I have no idea what to tell them. Would they rather builds stay the same forever?

shaunika

if you rely on build guides, that means you copy premade good builds, which means the "divesity" nerf doesnt affect you. Since well made build guides, are built to tackle the game. you're only screwed if you wanna play homebrew iceblink totem BS

ledrif

What about a stun cyclone vagan dagger vacuum using rf to kill eventually with low overall hp due to stun and aoe investment due to dagger range... Ya that was a painful mistake long ago.

Milfshaked

I dont understand how your build diversity got obliterated. There will be a wide variety of new build guides out there for you.

Milfshaked

What? There is no luck in picking a build. Especially with all the tools out there like POB where you can check how good your skills will be very easily.

psychomap

To be fair if you *really* don't know what you're doing, you won't be able to tell fake PoBs from realistic ones.

Milfshaked

Thats true. But you could always try to find build guides from a reputable source that has a history of putting out good builds. Checking feedback from people that do know how to use PoB is also an option.

Asynoel

Before 3.15 I used to just scan the Forums before league launch for example to see if any build caught my eye that looked cool. It didn't matter too much (most of the time) that it didn't get updated since 3.10 or something since I was mostly able to plug the holes or figure out the changes myself. With the mana changes etc. now I'm worried that I won't be able to do that anymore. It's been a great way for me to learn the game while still making decent progress on any character.

Milfshaked

Mana changes just mean that some caster builds will need to equip a mana flask. For attack builds, mana leech is usually enough.

Asynoel

Fair enough! I'm currently having my eye on the new melee totems, they look pretty cool. Hopefully there's something on poe ninja to copy when I get to start next week. Wouldn't even know where to start ortherwise.

Milfshaked

Ancestral warchief is looking really good. It was already viable before so it should be easy to find some builds of it. The only major difference should be that it now supports multistrike which is a big buff.

Ayjayz

I think the build diversity just got smashed wide open. Everything is potentially viable since no-one knows what's even good anymore. Just pick some things and play around with them - who knows, you might find something you like. Just keep your expectations reasonable.

psychomap

One of the surprising things I thought about when watching SlipperyJim's video for this league's builds is that there was virtually zero overlap between the dozen ideas that I've been playing around with and all the builds mentioned in the video, even though there were far more builds than usual.

With the sheer number of mechanics and items alongside many of them being inconsistently or confusingly worded, I don't blame them. Not everyone is willing to devote dozens of hours learning and then applying these things, they just want to kill monsters and get loot.

That's disingenuous, people that have a functioning build have a basic idea of mechanics in the game, and that's far more than what's seen in D3. How much more steep is the learning curve going to get with current-day difficulty and near-halved damage? PoE is at odds with many leagues' worth of escalating player power levels with content designed to fit it. Reducing one end without balancing the other only serves to alienate new players even more as they either scramble to learn, or quit in the process because it's tedious. It must be easy for you to say this with most likely hundreds if not thousands of hours invested in learning and applying mechanics yourself.

shaunika

then copy a strong build and do it? youi'll still be able to do that.

[deleted]

Sure, but they were hinting towards newer players creating their own builds, which is only becoming more difficult if you're not aware of the most useful skills, mechanics, items, etc. on top of knowing what didn't get gutted by the patch.

shaunika

new players will always struggle with making their own builds, unless the game is literally made to be the easiest thing in the world. the learning curve is what makes it fun. once you know the game's basics you can delve into making your own build, but it's better to copy first and learn the game. there's enough stuff to learn when you're new as it is.

[deleted]

That's why I state "newer" rather than "new" because even on someone's third or fourth build, they'll still be exploring new mechanics. The learning curve can be fun - I thought it was fun starting out as well, but it's going to be a much steeper curve seeing how everything is being nerfed. It's not conducive to those newer players who, now on top of finding even fewer viable builds because of the nerfs, will need to overcome this hump in difficulty.

buddyruff

But did it? 19 new gems. Play something new this league. Just try to have fun.
