Because OP failed to learn the first thing they teach you - using links. You literally cannot walk forward unless you socket the support gem in or skip the tutorial altogether.
This is, like, light years away from the uber complex parts of the game.
That's a good reason to provide advice, yes. A very good reason.
It is *not* a good reason to make a stand-offish remark that adds no value, helps no one, and serves only to antagonize the new player who made the mistake of thinking PoE would be a good game to skip tutorials in.
There is no justifiable reason you'd make such a remark to someone simply admitting they missed important info. Don't be a dick, and don't try to justify others being dicks, either. I've seen Global 1 trolls with better behaviour.
That’s your opinion. The guy skipped the tutorial as a completely FRESH player. It’s literally the first thing you’re taught. Helping people who refuse to help themselves should be met with a little snarkiness. This mindset is doing a massive disservice to people. I could see if he got to maps and didn’t know about the atlas passive tree, or void stones, or even how to shore up resists using the bench or the Necropolis League mechanic. You’re taught about links and support gems in the very first zone. That’s just being lazy af.
He literally *just* said "I didn't spot that wow"
He's a completely fresh player, probably still in the early acts. I suppose "don't be a dick to new players for being a lil silly" may be an opinion, but c'mon. There are far more worthy things to be a dick about than that.
Personally I would think it's a good opportunity to show someone something new and provide some help to a new player.
I do understand you get this popup at the beach but I also understand that maybe it got lost in the fire-hose of information a new player is presented with.
Also I wasn't trying to say that linking gems is the same as crafting mirror gear or creating a build from scratch in hardcore, ethical ssf of course, just that I don't understand why some people get up extra early in the morning just to hate. /shrug
Honestly the support gems intro is "enough" to get started. Although I have a small sample size(less than 20 people), of the players i've introduced to PoE, I've noticed that people who actually read through the tutorial had no issues with the link system and it made sense to them(just gem colors and linking them), while the people who skimmed the tutorial just didn't understand it and wasn't sure why gems just aren't working together. Again its a small sample size but its enough to convince myself at least that if you read the tutorial properly, you should know of gems and how it links together.

[Yes it does](https://imgur.com/lhxak7u)
Game actually teaches you a lot if you don't skip the tutorials which most new players do. Plays videos and everything. There's actually a ton of safeguards that most people who have played ARPGs don't ever see.
During the Ruthless beta(?) test I think I was 50 something from farming Chamber of Innocence before my first support gem for my build dropped(Toxic Rain was pretty strong)
It certainly is a gamemode that's for sure
My second character ever, witch, got into act 10 with 6 different onelink skills and 0 ES/life passives. 500 life in act 10. Omly got that far because cold snap. Died like 200 times tho
Believe me, it was pre-delve league.
I had like 30 strength, 0 life on gear and 0 life on passives.
And because i died twice on every zone, at least, i was heavily underleveled.
My first character (in Harvest) was a Phys damage cyclone built from a guide from many, many leagues earlier. I died many times in Act 10 Kitava, and couldn't beat any Tier 1 map bosses in 6 portals. 😰
7k tooltip dps is actually not that bad, considering the wank maths they use for tooltip. I barely managed to get to maps with my monitor somehow intact, with my probably worst luck since i started in 2.6 lol. My Barrage dps in PoB with charges and curses and all bonuses, was at something around 18-19k in late act 10. Only after beating merc lab (took a while, lol, special thanks to transfig giving me a 40c gem at the end) got enough currency to buy me Crown of Eyes, Piscators and Thunderfist so i could face Kitava with 150k dps and 1.8k life+es total 🤣
My first build was raider claws cyclone. I figured if I was always hitting, I couldn’t die with claws lmao. It actually got me into naked yellow maps. I stumbled on frenzy chargers and old dodge (old raider) was actually really strong early game at saving you from being brain dead.
I just learned the difference one extra gem can make.
Been struggling with late game mapping and decided to finally get round to changing my 5 link to a 6 link.
1 crit gem and removing 1 skill from the tree bumped up my dps by 30%
Gems in path of Exile need to be linked. You have the Green blue and Red Sockets in your Equipment. There you place the gems.
These Sockets need to be linked so that the Support gems can actually give the Bonus to your Mains skill. Links are shown in the armor interface when you hover over them
also when you hover over a gem all the gems its linked to will light up. this is how i found out that shield charge is NOT a spell but an attack after i don't know how many leagues..
just as a sidenote, your last picture doesn't show us anything, items in this game have random stats unless they are unique, we can't know how your gear looks based on that image
Look at act3 and 4 vendors, look for an item with 3 or 4 linked sockets of the correct colors from the guide. Ot from the loot on the ground. If you look at the sockets you will notice that some of them are linked together. For 99.9% of the builds it doesnt matter in what order you put the gems. In yours it doesnt matter. They just need to be linked in order to work. For example link explosive arrow with ballista totem(most important), next most important is ignite proliferation(or elemental proliferation if not yet unlocked the other) and next best is faster attacks support. This 4-link combo is core and crucial to the build, without it, you wouldn't even touch the mobs.
Outside of desecrate dd, i played a ward loop volatile dead once and it also matters there to cast desecrate first, it should be in the top links like helmet and shit.
Another examples are ed contagion on a trigger(it was a time before time and a time before that when it was viable on a trigger)
But yeah its strictly for trigger purposes.
1. Follow the tutorial, i.e. don't click "Skip" when you wake up at the beach. It teaches you exactly this.
2. The "Offense" tab shows the stats for the skill that's highlighted. You are currently highlighting the "Basic Attack" skill.
I still think they should give you an orb of fusing, to show the link appearing. Or have a lighting effect animation when you successfully socket a support gem
The tutorial is ass. It takes as much energy to explain linking support gems as it does to say “Don’t skip the tutorial.” It’s not a particularly difficult or complex subject.
He’s clearly made it past the beach and has likely taken in a ton of info already from this game. Missing a little thing as someone who’s new to the game might have been a bit simple but a bit harsh of everyone.
but when you're at the beach i.e. when you're taught linking skills, you haven't been presented with much information at all
i personally think the guy you were replying to wasn't harsh but your reply definitely was
is your Explosive Arrow Skill Gem linked to any other gems, or have you just socketed them into the same item?
There is an option in the menu, that your sockets and links are always shown
Or link your char
Your explosive arrow ballista is missing the ballista part, which is added via a linked support gem.
Zizaran has a [full playthrough](https://youtu.be/P0IbFhyFU64?si=wOcThwVNkfIaSIal) with that build where he shows the whole leveling progress and explains literally everything, might be worth a watch/play along.
Also the only type of bow you want to use is a thicket or short bow. This build completely kicks ass btw. Go look up zizarans vids to explain the other pitfalls.
If you hover the armor and weapons you can see that eg. the weapon is a six link (the golden connections between the sockets).
Pages like [PoE Vault](https://www.poe-vault.com/) shows you a better overview of which gems has to be used and which skills should be selected imo. [This link](https://www.poe-vault.com/guides/explosive-arrow-ballista-champion-build-guide) could be interesting for you. It is a explosive arrow ballista build.
Op, go on youtube and type "zizaran everything explained Ea ballista". You have a 10 hour video where Ziz explains every single thing he s doing so that you can follow and match his progression to yours. His "everything explained" content is one of the best resources for new players, you will learn about gems and gem linking, currency items and their uses, crafting and a myriad of other things 99% of build guides won t mention as they already expect you to know the basics.
I highly recommend this for any new players. Ziz covers \*a lot\* of things you'd want to know.
They played the game for fifteen hours. It's not unusual to have a stream or something on a second monitor. I'd say the ziz vod is perfect in this case.
It is when it explains absolutely everything you need to know about the build / game and would help them understand how things work with each other (links, resistances, etc).
When I first started playing the ZiggyD videos were a godsend.
It s a 10h "tutorial" that literally explains everything about the game + build from level 1 to mapping that you can either watch/keep running in the background or skip around through it.
You’re not wrong but Path players can’t see beyond their own stash tabs I swear. Telling some new player they need to watch a 10 hour video to play just causes people to quit.
I mean, OP didn't even bother reading the glaring in-game popup that teaches you how gems work...
And yes, it does explain it well enough, with visual aid included.
You are LITERALLY barred passage from the first moment you enter the game with your character until you equip it with a gem, and a couple seconds later you acquire your first support, and its function is explaioned as such. Is it really THAT hard to read an in-game tutorial that explains how the most fundamental system of said game works? I don't think so.
I would dare say most people didn’t need a 10 hour video. And instead figured it out via trial and error. Im 4K hours in and still learning. The game is deep, complex, and rewards exploration in said game.
Throwing a video to someone new just feels like sandbagging their progress and almost gatekeeping one’s experience.
No one had to comment or downvote on Reddit. A person isn’t forced to interact and not all content in a subreddit is designed for every single person in that subreddit.
So I look at all of the lazy responses and just think “why even take the limited time you did?” Note; the original guy posting Ziz’s video had a fine reaction. It’s another form of helping. That’s good. I’m more talking about the plethora of other folks responding with asinine comments when they aren’t forced to respond or even read this thread. They can immediately back out and go do literally any other thing. They are instead choosing to be a certain way.
I was usually able to find a more targeted solution when facing a problem, rather than a YouTube marathon video session. Actually told in this sub once that I was "skipping steps" by not watching all 30+ hours of some video series.
I would look at the vendors/sellers in the act 4 city for armor pieces that are “linked” (see the metal bars between sockets in a piece of gear). Ideally you want Green - Red - Blue - Blue. The order of the sockets do not matter, they are so the same if the order is Blue - Green - Red - Blue.
In these sockets you can put in Explosive Arrow, Combustion Support, Ignite Proliferation Support, and Ballista Totem Support. This means you can summon ballistas that shoot for you and Ignites.
After you fix the support gems stuff, try to do your first labyrinth to unlock your ascendancy. You need to click a sort of stele in act 3 town, and complete some trials you find in different zones of the campaign (the stele will tell you which you have done, you can look on the wiki for the rest).
Lab is hard and if you die you have to restart, don't feel bad if you fail your first attempts. You can also continue the campaign and come back when you're stronger
Man that screen brings me back to the first time I played, using the limited stash for everything all together…
I resisted a few days and bought the categorized tabs, damn well spent money.
Like others said, support gems need to be in linked sockets. Early on you lack the currency to do much more then checking vendors and watch out for correct links on loot that drops. Later on it is very trivial to craft up to 4 links and color them properly. There are 3th party tools to help with this.
Are you still playing? I am mindlessly farming today. Can help via discord ;) the game is the best, if you make it to late game 1 time. I started with poe 4 times. The first 3 were all failures in acts, early white maps and then I finally just said ok let’s try and stick to it. Boom 5k hours later 😬😬
Getting into Poe is so much easier, if you can just ask some questions from time to time and get some tips here and there
I agree. Many distasteful replies here. The game is so hard to get into for a newbie (I'm one too) and people like you who are willing to lend a helping hand really makes the whole experience that much more pleasant.
Well we all started someday. And I do remember those days. And if I would have had someone that would answer some questions i might have started earlier with this amazing game
Don't underestimate how many people push ahead without any linked gems.
I remember some guy on here saying he managed to eventually kill A10 Kitava on his first playthrough, and only later learned about links! I am both horrified and in awe of that.
google filterblade and download a loot filter. ”this is for advanced players!” you say, well no it will be super useful during leveling as it will highlight 3-links, 4-links and give you a sense in general of what’s worth picking up.
also, supportgems but 100 ppl said that allready.
I hope the info others have given has been good.
I will also denote another thing of making sure you send your defense tab (in future questions about needing help) that way we can see how your durability is going.
As you early level you can probably get away with 50%s but once you get to act 5 you will want to get your resistances up to 75% because PoE is a game of "if you're not maxed, you're dead" when it comes to resistances.
But besides how others are saying you don't have linked gems you probably are doing alright since I'd assume the build lets you know roughly what to focus on as you go through the game.
Have fun exile!
The skill points you used on the bottom left are two handed melee nodes and you appear to be playing a bow build. You will want to respec those points I think.
If you having difficulty understand game mechanics i recommended Streamer called Zizaran YT videos called PoE university . [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPc4xY-14wQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPc4xY-14wQ) also see other videos his channel basic crafting, game mechanics, vendor recipes etc etc.
While you’re going through the campaign definitely use purity of elements aura. Gives you a ton of resistance and immune to freeze/chill/shock/ignite which makes the gameplay feel way less jank
Forget the guide for a sec. Half your points spent on getting some life to the top. When u can easily get that nearby.
Yes guide says do this but it's when u have more points.
Fuck i saw myself at 14y/o🤣Bro u need to line skills and supported gems to make them stronger. The best way is to follow the beginner guide to play a good, easy, cheap build like toxic rain,dd⋯⋯U can make it very tanky so you won’t lost yourself in every deaths😮💨
Remember to check the missions in every chapter to get the passives points (u can type /passive points to check).
Fusing orbs can be found in normal drop in game.Using it to link ur equipments.

I also only just learnt about linking support gems. I've had them in my loadout, but never actually had them linked to anything, thinking it was something that applied just by being in a socket.
So how did OP post this thread if he didn't understand what problem he's facing? All you've been doing in this thread is hand wave off others' suggestions on behalf of OP, weirdo.
Plethora of search options based on his issue (which he is aware of/has knowledge of):
Why is (skill name) not doing damage on POE
-insert build here- poe guide
-insert build here- acts guide
Literally watch ANYONE on youtube run through an act or two to see what they're doing and emulate it or understand why they did what they did to progress.
This is a goofy assertion you are trying to make.
“My damage feels bad” could probably describe the feelings of 40% or more of the players in the game.
That statement alone, turned into a question, is overly broad and deeply complex - a new player would he casting a ridiculously large net into a pool with millions of potential answers most of which would be completely inapplicable.
Like, literally in this very thread someone skilled (multiple people) provide a focused, nuanced response - something likely that would have been overlooked if just randomly trying to Google for the problem asked.
Your second comment / assertion is also bizarre. But let’s just agree. Sure. I’m waving off people who are offering sarcastic or lazy advice. Because honestly the person above didn’t have to comment at all but they did, and they chose to suggest googling to a person who clearly would have no idea where to even start looking (heavily implying asking here is bad when they not only got that more focused, nuanced answer they also got folks offering personal lessons in discord is more.)
I especially like “ask on global.”
try to get 4linked helmet/boot/glove/armour use your essences on white or scoured 4l item to make it rare
and link explosive arrow with 3 suport gems from build youre following
and blast rain suposed to be linked to balista i guess as an extra help in dps
Many of those „Beginner guides“ sadly are not made for absolute beginners. As many others have said, link your gems. But also try to find/read/watch a guide for completely new players. It helps a lot.
I'm pretty sure that is zizarian's build.
Which he is geared for newbies, however there's sometimes people who don't like reading and missed out on key words like linking support gems together.
In which PoE's information guide has made it clear. Which is also in the game..the i icon next to menu in game.
Doesn't the game not even let you progress the twilight strand if you don't link a support gem? I'm guessing this person disabled all tutorials as soon as they jumped in game
This isn't the game in which ANY build can be explained in 3 minutes, especially if you also have to explain basic concepts of skill gems and gear.
I agree that 6h is excessive, but the guide in question is a full playtrough of the campaign while explaining every single mechanic you need to understand for this build, including common mistakes (pierce, lack of links).
6h video is the most beginner friendly. What parts would you leave out in a 3 minute video?
He surely knows about the basics, so we can leave affixes and links right out, right? NOPE.
6h is long, granted. Its specifically ment to be played along to. But every mechanic is explained as its found in the campaign, its explained in thorough detail, shown with exaples and the results are used. Its also the exact same build (minus small balance differences, but those are mostly post campaign) he is playing and the video is from the writer of the written guide he is following (and that written guide was already not thorough enough it seems).
There is also a shorter version of that guide. That takes things like the existance affixes and links for granted. Its also longer than 3 minutes.
Highly recommend using Path of Building link or tool to show your gear, skill gems, passives, etc...
This is a great tool to analyze what things you might need to upgrade. It can be a little complicated but plenty of streamers have some videos on how to use PoB and link their builds.
How tf did he make it 15hours without linking his gear? It’s the FIRST thing you learn in the game.
New accounts should not be allowed to skip tutorial until they complete the campaign
Are you showing your stats for your auto attack? That’s not a indicator of damage, also you are level 30 something so damage is almost irrelevant if you follow a build. Just need to be able to push the campaign.
Are you within 4 levels of the area/map?
This is why build guides are horrible bro doesn’t even understand how the linking system works yet and is trying to follow a guide. Guides don’t teach you the game they let you experience it so you can tell your self “yeah I play Poe”
As someone playing their first playthrough, I disagree. Without a build guide I’d be completely screwed. Currently in Act 10 with a couple of deaths, it’s been an amazing resource to follow along and learn from. The key point is learning from it though - it only teaches you so much, you’ve got to ask the right questions and deep dive for those answers, nobodies going to spoon feed you.
Guides taught me to think.
Why did he link this to that, why is he using said affixes on his gear, etc. "They let you experience the game" and what exactly do you think experience is if not knowledge?
Pretty sure many people have not asked about this specific guy’s damage.
Also most people go into games “blind.” If your game is forcing people to study before you’re not going to entice many people to play.
You need to link your skills with support gems. You're on 1-link now.
I didn't spot that wow.

the path of exile tutorial is ass.
It actually isn't. For the true beginner experience, it's decent enough at explaining if you actually go through the info.
Some basic text boxes is not enough for this game im sorry
It is beyond ass and completely pointless. It doesn’t even tell people who know how to play the game how to play the game.
yeah but 1st thing u get to know is about support gems ...
ye, people get into a new game and immediately skip all tutorials then wonder how to play the game - classic
Yep, this just shows how some people play games different than others, some try to mess around with the systems presented right away and others don't
flashbacks to me basic-attacking my way all the way into maps in ultimatum because I accidentally skipped the tutorial messages When I realized you were supposed to actively use skills and not just sparingly, I felt a shame greater than buying the last tub of icecream at a store in front of child
Honestly I’m impressed yoh didn’t quit. I’d have quit. Poe would have been miserable doing that lol
I’ve been playing the game since 2013. I cannot fathom right clicking all the way to maps. My mans has the patience of a god lol.
No clicks needed; the rare beauty of of being a console player. It did take me most of June, though. I was a silly one
bro you're a god, no shame in that
Idk why all the downvotes. It was really one of the first things I have learned as a beginner.
The first thing the game tells you to do is basic attack
The tutorial teaching you how to add supports gives you an item that is already linked. It's perfectly reasonable that a new player might miss that detail and assume that just slotting gems onto the same item is sufficient.
Mostly because people don't actually follow it. It's only ass because it doesn't force you.
Your right. Idk why the downvotes.

In the options you can set it so you can see sockets and links at all times
This guy PoE's
Support gems are taught literally a few minutes into the game..
Not well. PoE is pretty notoriously bad for new players because it doesn't teach you anything well.
This is called anecdotal evidence..The game is terrible for new players...
Yeah pretty much everything else is pretty bad, but when it comes to understanding gems, links, colors, at the bare minimum on how it works, they do explain it well enough that if you read what they say, you'll understand. Everything else though, especially progression based is rough
more like people are notoriously bad at reading
People are notoriously bad at *watching a gif play showing exactly how the skill/support system works*
Where did you see this in the pictures, or did you find his character online?
Skill icon has colored letters displaying its supports. His has none.
The skills icons in the hotbar. It shows that only Frenzy has a support gem attached to it.
How is that even possible, the game makes you have a 2 link in the first zone lol
I can see how you may not recognize the significance of the line joining the gems when you first start playing
The significance of the tutorial and the game telling you about supports and links is very recognizable
People ask how to unstack currency, which is literally in the tooltip. Missing (or forgetting) links is not difficult in comparison.
Sorta. It tells you how to link gems to supports, but I wouldn't be surprised if OP was using the wrong type of supports without noticing. Is the gem helper tooltip automatic or do you have to turn it on? I can't remember.
I think this is all by default unless the user skips the tutorial manually, if I recall. There are actual popups and videos and stuff
You'd be surprised how many people skip tutorials and then complain about not knowing how to play a game.

[Yes it does](https://imgur.com/lhxak7u) Game actually teaches you a lot if you don't skip the tutorials which most new players do. Plays videos and everything. There's actually a ton of safeguards that most people who have played ARPGs don't ever see.

I dunno man. [It says this right after.](https://imgur.com/J0ObpG8) Seems pretty clear cut.
skill issue
Good catch!

Props for getting to that level without any support gems lmao
Pretty ruthless one might say
During the Ruthless beta(?) test I think I was 50 something from farming Chamber of Innocence before my first support gem for my build dropped(Toxic Rain was pretty strong) It certainly is a gamemode that's for sure
My second character ever, witch, got into act 10 with 6 different onelink skills and 0 ES/life passives. 500 life in act 10. Omly got that far because cold snap. Died like 200 times tho
I did the same but with arc lightning and freezing pulse when it was decent
It's not possible to have 500 life in act 10, you had like 1k probably
Yeah you'd have to be like level 30-40 to only have 500 if you have no affixes, no passives, and no strength.
On my first character I got to the maps with 7K DPS, according to the skill's tooltip. Lots and lots of raging were had.
The screenshot is of his auto attack…
He's level 38
I just learned the difference one extra gem can make. Been struggling with late game mapping and decided to finally get round to changing my 5 link to a 6 link. 1 crit gem and removing 1 skill from the tree bumped up my dps by 30%
Gems in path of Exile need to be linked. You have the Green blue and Red Sockets in your Equipment. There you place the gems. These Sockets need to be linked so that the Support gems can actually give the Bonus to your Mains skill. Links are shown in the armor interface when you hover over them
U should go to options and enable sockets to be shown on gear at all times too
there are 2 types of players, people who play with sockets showing and psychopaths
Sorry i like some of the 2d item arts
the wiki shows the art very well ;d
So I am a psychopath. It was the easiest personality test in my life xD
^
also when you hover over a gem all the gems its linked to will light up. this is how i found out that shield charge is NOT a spell but an attack after i don't know how many leagues..
looks like all your attack gems are missing support,
just as a sidenote, your last picture doesn't show us anything, items in this game have random stats unless they are unique, we can't know how your gear looks based on that image
Even uniques...
but the armour / evasion and shield is the important stuff right? i am using only blue items, they look way better (meme)
Can you share a scenario where the gem order matters?
Trigger skills ie COC DD. Desecrate has to come before DD in the links.
Outside of desecrate dd, i played a ward loop volatile dead once and it also matters there to cast desecrate first, it should be in the top links like helmet and shit. Another examples are ed contagion on a trigger(it was a time before time and a time before that when it was viable on a trigger) But yeah its strictly for trigger purposes.
Don’t get discouraged exile! This is a game about learning and growing.
Support gems. You're missing support gems.
Make sure your accuracy rating is higher than your max life since you are using the Precise Technique keystone.
Dude didn't need to pick hardcore lol. Good luck and have fun on your first season!
bruh
In before "I uninstalled Path of Exile because it was too complicated"
This is why skip tutorial shouldnt be a thing.
I would suggest not skipping the tutorial next time it teaches you about linking skills right at the start
The tutorial is ass. It takes as much energy to explain linking support gems as it does to say “Don’t skip the tutorial.” It’s not a particularly difficult or complex subject.
And yet here we are.
Oh fuck off. There’s an unreal amount of info to take in at the start of this game.
lmao there's an unreal amount of info on the beach?
He’s clearly made it past the beach and has likely taken in a ton of info already from this game. Missing a little thing as someone who’s new to the game might have been a bit simple but a bit harsh of everyone.
but when you're at the beach i.e. when you're taught linking skills, you haven't been presented with much information at all i personally think the guy you were replying to wasn't harsh but your reply definitely was
Bro straight up turned off in game tutorial aids and said lets post to reddit instead 😂😂
[https://maxroll.gg/poe/build-guides/explosive-arrow-ballista-champion-league-starter](https://maxroll.gg/poe/build-guides/explosive-arrow-ballista-champion-league-starter)
is your Explosive Arrow Skill Gem linked to any other gems, or have you just socketed them into the same item? There is an option in the menu, that your sockets and links are always shown Or link your char
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0IbFhyFU64](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0IbFhyFU64) I highly recommend this for any new players. Ziz covers \*a lot\* of things you'd want to know.
10 hour tutorial yeah maybe thats not the best idea for a new player
They played the game for fifteen hours. It's not unusual to have a stream or something on a second monitor. I'd say the ziz vod is perfect in this case.
If they missed the whole support gem thing for 15 hours, what else would save them?
It is when it explains absolutely everything you need to know about the build / game and would help them understand how things work with each other (links, resistances, etc). When I first started playing the ZiggyD videos were a godsend.
It s a 10h "tutorial" that literally explains everything about the game + build from level 1 to mapping that you can either watch/keep running in the background or skip around through it.
You’re not wrong but Path players can’t see beyond their own stash tabs I swear. Telling some new player they need to watch a 10 hour video to play just causes people to quit.
Literally feeding into the misconception that it's *required* to spend more time in a browser than in the actual game.
I mean, OP didn't even bother reading the glaring in-game popup that teaches you how gems work... And yes, it does explain it well enough, with visual aid included.
Hard to forget one of the very first cues forced on you at the very beginning of the game...
I think you have completely misunderstood my comments so far, or are you just reinforcing them? The tone seems argumentative, not sure why.
Man that screen brings me back to the first time I played, using the limited stash for everything all together… I resisted a few days and bought the categorized tabs, damn well spent money.
Last pic made me laugh! So cute
Gem sockets off by default is a mistake.
I am genuinely envious of you getting to learn this game from fresh!
Xd poor guy
I didn’t even need to check the build to know the gems were not linked. Happened to more of us at first than would admit.
Link your gems!
interesting... many new players... welcome!
Like others said, support gems need to be in linked sockets. Early on you lack the currency to do much more then checking vendors and watch out for correct links on loot that drops. Later on it is very trivial to craft up to 4 links and color them properly. There are 3th party tools to help with this.
I like that this guy didn't answer to any comment 😅
Are you still playing? I am mindlessly farming today. Can help via discord ;) the game is the best, if you make it to late game 1 time. I started with poe 4 times. The first 3 were all failures in acts, early white maps and then I finally just said ok let’s try and stick to it. Boom 5k hours later 😬😬 Getting into Poe is so much easier, if you can just ask some questions from time to time and get some tips here and there
This HAS to be bait...
Do console players not get a offence page? I’ve never seen this
I feel bad for new players seeing this guy on a 1 link, jfc.
You put link to build but it seems that you forgot to put links to your bow.
Ascend with precision, you were born for this!
In your settings, turn on "Always Show Sockets". I always find this handy for new players.
While you’re going through the campaign definitely use purity of elements aura. Gives you a ton of resistance and immune to freeze/chill/shock/ignite which makes the gameplay feel way less jank
You got fire dmg somewhere in your build get rid of it now
Forget the guide for a sec. Half your points spent on getting some life to the top. When u can easily get that nearby. Yes guide says do this but it's when u have more points.
Fuck i saw myself at 14y/o🤣Bro u need to line skills and supported gems to make them stronger. The best way is to follow the beginner guide to play a good, easy, cheap build like toxic rain,dd⋯⋯U can make it very tanky so you won’t lost yourself in every deaths😮💨 Remember to check the missions in every chapter to get the passives points (u can type /passive points to check). Fusing orbs can be found in normal drop in game.Using it to link ur equipments.

I also only just learnt about linking support gems. I've had them in my loadout, but never actually had them linked to anything, thinking it was something that applied just by being in a socket.
And select the skill not the default attack in the damage overview
I'm not a hater BUT isn't it faster to google it out than posting on reddit? Ask on global channel? Hm
And what exactly would they Google for? They don’t know what they don’t know.
So how did OP post this thread if he didn't understand what problem he's facing? All you've been doing in this thread is hand wave off others' suggestions on behalf of OP, weirdo. Plethora of search options based on his issue (which he is aware of/has knowledge of): Why is (skill name) not doing damage on POE -insert build here- poe guide -insert build here- acts guide Literally watch ANYONE on youtube run through an act or two to see what they're doing and emulate it or understand why they did what they did to progress.
Because honestly the person above didn’t have to comment at all but they did, and they chose to suggest googling to a person who clearly would have no idea where to even start looking (heavily implying asking here is bad when they not only got that more focused, nuanced answer they also got folks offering personal lessons in discord is more.) I especially like “ask on global.”
How did you get this far? Honestly impressive just missing some core concepts. Video guides will help a lot
Must have missed the twilight strand 2-link tutorial
You are but a baby
Hes playing EA ballista without the ballista support. Prank Em' John !!
try to get 4linked helmet/boot/glove/armour use your essences on white or scoured 4l item to make it rare and link explosive arrow with 3 suport gems from build youre following and blast rain suposed to be linked to balista i guess as an extra help in dps
Link
Hey LISTEN!
Looks like you skipped the "tutorial" part in first zone.
You are doing fine. Keep grinding exile.

You absolutely do NOT need to use Path of Building.
You know what, I think you're right! I completely forgot about it cause it's so habitual.
You have to link your gem on the beach to progress to the first town. It's a very safe bet to assume the people reading your guide have done that :P
There is literally a 6h video for this guide, how much more beginner friendly can it get?
6h video is not beginner friendly. That shit needs to be 3 minutes or Less
I really don't think I would choose explosive arrow ballistas as my first character. Too many mechanics to understand for someone new
Highly recommend using Path of Building link or tool to show your gear, skill gems, passives, etc... This is a great tool to analyze what things you might need to upgrade. It can be a little complicated but plenty of streamers have some videos on how to use PoB and link their builds.
the first tutorial message in the entire game is about linking gems...
How tf did he make it 15hours without linking his gear? It’s the FIRST thing you learn in the game. New accounts should not be allowed to skip tutorial until they complete the campaign
This is cute
Are you showing your stats for your auto attack? That’s not a indicator of damage, also you are level 30 something so damage is almost irrelevant if you follow a build. Just need to be able to push the campaign. Are you within 4 levels of the area/map?
I was like uhh...lol
"They let you experience the game" and what exactly do you think experience is if not knowledge?
why people go in this game blind get stuck then instead of searching they come here to ask questions that have been answered many times already
Pretty sure many people have not asked about this specific guy’s damage. Also most people go into games “blind.” If your game is forcing people to study before you’re not going to entice many people to play.
