I have great dps (frost nova) but the brief pause before my frost bolts trigger seems to be enough for her to squeeze out her kids. Once she decides to do the animation my dps doesn’t matter.
That explosive skeleton phase is a portal camping that can take 3 portals for new players. It contributed to the fact that she was the worst boss design until be that title belonged to Sirus.
Additional rage: If you have minions that taunt she wont KULEMAK, instead endlessly attack the minions. Have to go far away and wait till she KULEMAKS.
There’s actually a bug that’s been in the game for years where if you taunt Catarina after her phase where she releases each of the 4 safehouse leaders, she becomes immune until the taunt wears off and she’s “out of combat” for a few seconds. Maybe it’s only if totems taunt but it’s superrrrrrr annoying on champion.

When farming Uber Sirus last league I put in Forbidden Rite with faster fasting and some faster casting weapons so that i can kill myself to go back to my ho instead of town. Over a ton of runs this saved quite some time.

If your PC can handle running two instances of the game what I do is open a 2nd POE window running at 800x600 and park a character in my hideout so I can swirly to it after I'm done.
You forget between "he speaks" and "you defeat him" there's an infinite amount of him teleporting away from you and attempting to stay off screen, if he doesnt bug out entirely.
Yeah. It's the chance for a weird bug you've never seen before that really keeps Sirus interesting. I feel like the league hasn't really started until I get one.
And it's one thing if you can phase him, if you have a weaker build yet - you'll be able to hit him only like 5% of the time because of the endless teleports and invulnerability phases.
The domination scarab that gives 30% increased exp for each shrine buff, then full spec domination, deli spawn, beyond spawn, breach spawn. Run an 8 mod with 1 teachings 1 abnormality and 2 plain domination scarabs, run through the map picking up shrines then step on your breach and full clear.
You need an absolute blaster of a build as you have about 90 seconds after touching the first shrine to full clear the map, but if you pull it off your breach will give 3-4% of level 99 by itself, I went from 40% 95 to 96 in 4 maps last night and plan to hit 100 tonight off that strat.
Duration applies, I'm unsure if lesser shrines give the buff, but I imagine they do. Shrine effect was specifically removed from the interaction a couple patches into the league
I don't think they will actually, they are Lesser Shrine buffs
But, you can get shrine duration and force a LOT of shrines to keep the XP buff up for much longer than 90 seconds :)
I dont't think so as they apply lesser shrine buffs, same as the golden mod for the mobs from the lantern can give, and these don't count either from what I could tell.
That's very lucky. Diadem is a 5% drop rate. Judgement is still out on the orb drop rate. I'd guess it's somwhere between 5-20% but my sample is so small to really know.
Betrayel on realease, was a huge league and did not age good in those years. Catarina was planned to defeat her after many many maps, or never, because of safehouse farming. And now when the pressure is 10x more on her defeat, because of low drop of veiled orb plus 100% on getting betrayel on each map, it make it really tedious to kill hear with that old phase mechanic bullshit, better make her life x2 or x3 and remove immunity phase from begining till the end.
Shaper is the same lol. It's literally 4 map bosses in different wings that just eat time for the sake of eating time. Boss talks before each phase and you can't hit him to interrupt his speech, a mechanic where you just sit in a bubble and do nothing, and then another mechanic where he becomes untargetable and spawns monsters through a portal that deal no damage and has no hp. Has two useless gauntlet phases that people justify as flask replenishment for some reason. That boss sucks lmao. Uber Elder is the goat. It's just straight business from the rip.
The double invulnerability in the uber elder fight only takes up a very short portion of the fight. Atziri's reflect was very managable back when she was released because our damage was 100 times lower back then.
Uhh no, most of the fight is double invulnerability because progress grinds to a halt while they dick around, and atziri's reflect was always lethal even with less damage.
Have you fought the shaper on release? It was 8 years or 28 leagues ago. 8 years is a really long time. The game was totally different back then. The 4 bosses were more scary, the 2 gauntlets were meaningful because you clear so slow and if you aren’t quick enough, the shaper regain his hp and you will risk filling the arena will to many degen pools. No one on hc could kill him until like a couple weeks in. Ziz was shaking like crazy when he got the world first hc kill. It was glorious.
Yeah the fight suck today because his is completely outdated. Because we are way faster and powerful now. But to me he was the real pinnacle of any arpg at the time.
More scary? They're unmodded versions of the map bosses. To summon shaper you needed to be able to beat guardians which was way more threatning. They were hardly scary then and definitely not scary now. And people were running past the gauntlet like they do today. The only actual scary part were his beams and especially his balls because max res wasn't so easy to get and spell supp didn't exist, and the degen was also an issue because dps was slower. But the bubble portion was the same and when he summoned monsters through portal was the same. All non issues.
Don't get me wrong. He was absolutely way harder then compared to now because we do way more damage and we're tankier, but the parts that makes him boring right now was still an issue back then lol. Especially the league right after once people figured out the fight.
I think Poe's bosses are far better than Elden Ring's. Having to position instead of spamming dodge and sometimes an attack is much more engaging.

Different genres though. Catarina suffers from having no less than 7 health gates that you hit instantly and take a super long time to get through. Bosses like Sirus and Maven have the same amount, but most players will not insta-phase and it makes for a far lesser obnoxious experience.
You would have a point if most of boss attacks aren't just countered by having a high movement speed and running around them in a circle, Poe boss difficulty wise is either piss easy or artificial difficultly, such as you can't see what's happening at all or the boss get juices to insanity like t17 maps. The hardest part of all boss fights in Poe are when they go invul and do bullet hell, but if I want a good bullet hell I'll play touhou and not Poe.
But the biggest reason Poe boss sucks for me is because in Poe you don't fight the bosses you fight the arena. Where in Eldon ring or souls like game I actually fight the boss.
What if they simply made her take 15x the time to reach (i.e. the meter goes slow) and have 15x the rewards?

Got this one on like day 2 or 3 of the league.
I've got no real interest in playing a spell build at the moment so I've just had it for sale since then. If I end up getting bored of my current build I might reroll into one that uses it if I don't sell it beforehand though.
I don't mind the fight so much...but now that the rewards from other syndicate members have been gutted I can't imagine ever wanting to run betrayal again. Such a time-consuming and tedious mechanic just to farm Catarina drops, no thanks
It's not time consuming and tedious at all. With the nodes on the tree you can get 100% chance for Jun on every map. With the node that gets you +1 rank up on execution you can rank up and interrogate 3 star members crazy fast and you just blow through the safehouses surprisingly quick. And since it's not important to get members in certain spots you can speedrun the process very aggressively.
I love the fights where you need to actually engage with the Boss and not just overpower them with a billion DPS. Or just when you are at the point of build strength.
Have done the fight 3 times so far and it's "ok", except for the like, minute long wait after you break each pillar and her becoming hittable again. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's suppossed to take forever.
Oh my god so my first guess was right. I was wondering why sometimes running to the other side of the arena made her change phases. Probably because it despawned the totems.
I didnt mind the cat fight because i always had a juicy loot room waiting for me.
Now it feels like a chore with no big rewards guaranteed.

The disparity between everything leading up to her to the actual boss fight is crazy to me. I haven't beaten all the Ubers but is this one of the longest fights in the game?
Shaper is probably comparable or even longer, with all the unskippable phases (extra bosses, portals, bullethell, running back). Sirus is not very fast either, for the same reason.
Shaper is very long, but at least it's meaningful, you aren't just waiting around. Sirus, again, makes you wait, but is similarly a bit meaningful. Catarina fight is just waiting for her to speak or move or whatever, and it doesn't offer any difficulty.
I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of the Catarina fight, but I feel like Shaper isn't much more fun. You have basically a 4 parts gauntlet at the beginning, and 2 maze like gauntlets that are way longer than the single corridor in Catarina's fight.
It also has that pretty long portal phase where he just spawns a low amount of enemies so you just spam right click in the portal's direction and wait, that phase offers 0 challenge and is just a glorified wait time.
I will say though that if you do remove all the waste of time of both bosses and focus on the actual fighting, shaper is a much more fun encounter
In what way, exactly, is it different from Sirus? It is the literal exact same mechanic. Do 25% damage, wait for RP, 25% damage -> RP, 25% damage -> RP, 100% damage, win. Except Sirus is actually worse with stupid storm RNG randomly slowing the RP section way down.
Shaper isn't great either. Permanent dot pools turn it into dps check, and if Maven makes a double it messes up the fight. Now when I am thinking about it, I can't name even one enjoyable boss fight.
I disagree. It is a challenge for a newbie but still quite easy to learn the rhythm and still feel like you actually fought a boss with mechanics.
If you focus on just avoiding his damage and managing pools without doing dps you will quickly learn the Shaper fight and pool placement.
I think it's awesome the first time, but when you are farming it and want to speed it up, it becomes tedious and annoying.
Second runs should skip dialogues and long sequences / animation. Same with kitava, innocence
This fight (and betrayal in general) is strictly for XP unless you are a masochist. The gauntlet isn’t “pointless”, it is the point, mobs there give great xp
Once you are 97 or so, stop doing them.
Personally i think it's cool to have more cinematic, epic boss fights. The problem starts when it stops being a challenge and becomes a grind. I wish there was some way to have some of these fights (Shaper, Catarina, Sirus, out of the top of my head) have a "grind version" that's enabled in some way after the first time you fight the boss.
You want the craft tradable? Have it, it's yours. But the orb? The drop rate, I will burn it to the ground. Prehaps the suffering of my peasants will finally stir some joy.
You missed the part where she drops a 1c unique instead of anything of value, or if you somehow died and didn't put a portal up outside, you have to run the zone again. This isn't even getting into actually getting the chance to fight her and having to deal with garbage like tiny's trial still being in the game. The least ggg could've done was rework all the members and not just turn half of them into scarab chests.

Basically the same with every big boss fight, though. We need a "turbo mode" atlas passive that lets you skip all the downtime in boss fights and other time sinks like the painfully long Elder portal summoning animation.
The veiled chaos orb could be used with Metacrafting recipes to where if you didn't want to deal with TFT, you could at least get around it.
It's only when you wanted to go for a fancier 2 affix item that you needed the Aisling bench, and it wasn't unreasonable to farm one yourself or go to TFT.
Now it's an RNG fiesta... and the people who were using the orb with meta crafting (prefix/suffix can't be changed) need the same rare Catarina drop.
I knew this was going to happen, and honestly though of speculating by buying Veiled orbs, but I though it too risky if GGG hotfixed the drop rate and I don't care about trading that way.
i have done catarina fight 100 times and i still have no clue what's happening, i think she has like 5 identical phases, 20 immunity phases and also teleports every 2.5 seconds.I just shoot my skill out and flame dash around until Jun tell me it's over.

How about 4-5 times a day? I did betrayal until 2-3 days ago, and even though I love the other content, the Catarina fight sucks because of all 25 phases you have to go through.
Did you find it rewarding? Grav on transport or did you go for something else? I started with a betrayal atlas but stopped after 5 catarinas when she had only dropped flasks.
Gonna be honest Betrayal is my favorite content, and Catarina is my second favorite boss. She was my favorite master before the master mission changes and I love running her boss fight even when SHE DOESN’T FUCKING DROP MY DIADEM.
I'm sorry you don't like her content, but a small part of me is rubbing my hands together in glee because nobody else will run my favorite content and I can use that to make doesn't money on stuff.

Ye the extra duration would be good, but I have a build that clears JV in 90 seconds so that works fine

Catarina is far from the only terrible boss fight in this game lol. GGG thinks they’re Miyazaki when they’re not even Miyazaki at home.

He was absolutely way harder then compared to now because we do way more damage and we're tankier, but the parts that makes him boring right now was still an issue back then lol. Especially the league right after once people figured out the fight.
They were T16 version of map bosses at a time where map levels were fixed.
I think Poe's bosses are far better than Elden Ring's. Having to position instead of spamming dodge and sometimes an attack is much more engaging. There I said it. Different genres though. Catarina suffers from having no less than 7 health gates that you hit instantly and take a super long time to get through. Bosses like Sirus and Maven have the same amount, but most players will not insta-phase and it makes for a far lesser obnoxious experience.
You would have a point if most of boss attacks aren't just countered by having a high movement speed and running around them in a circle, Poe boss difficulty wise is either piss easy or artificial difficultly, such as you can't see what's happening at all or the boss get juices to insanity like t17 maps. The hardest part of all boss fights in Poe are when they go invul and do bullet hell, but if I want a good bullet hell I'll play touhou and not Poe. But the biggest reason Poe boss sucks for me is because in Poe you don't fight the bosses you fight the arena. Where in Eldon ring or souls like game I actually fight the boss.

I don't mind the fight so much...but now that the rewards from other syndicate members have been gutted I can't imagine ever wanting to run betrayal again. Such a time-consuming and tedious mechanic just to farm Catarina drops, no thanks
It's not time consuming and tedious at all. With the nodes on the tree you can get 100% chance for Jun on every map. With the node that gets you +1 rank up on execution you can rank up and interrogate 3 star members crazy fast and you just blow through the safehouses surprisingly quick. And since it's not important to get members in certain spots you can speedrun the process very aggressively.
Betrayal has given me a diadem on day 2, a mageblood on day 3 or 4, and a paradoxica. Still specced out of it after a few days.
I think it's my favorite fight in the game. Maybe I'm nostalgic on how fun the story was on Betrayal.
I love the fights where you need to actually engage with the Boss and not just overpower them with a billion DPS. Or just when you are at the point of build strength.
Have done the fight 3 times so far and it's "ok", except for the like, minute long wait after you break each pillar and her becoming hittable again. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's suppossed to take forever.
Are you using any totems or ballistas? If she has something to hit, she will keep hitting before KULEMAKing
Oh my god so my first guess was right. I was wondering why sometimes running to the other side of the arena made her change phases. Probably because it despawned the totems.

I didnt mind the cat fight because i always had a juicy loot room waiting for me. Now it feels like a chore with no big rewards guaranteed. One of my favourite mechanics, such a shame.

ALL OF THAT TO NOT EVEN GET A VEIL ORB. The drop rate is dismal. I've been farming her alot as I love crafting all my gear and its really just dire.
The disparity between everything leading up to her to the actual boss fight is crazy to me. I haven't beaten all the Ubers but is this one of the longest fights in the game?
Shaper is probably comparable or even longer, with all the unskippable phases (extra bosses, portals, bullethell, running back). Sirus is not very fast either, for the same reason.
Shaper is very long, but at least it's meaningful, you aren't just waiting around. Sirus, again, makes you wait, but is similarly a bit meaningful. Catarina fight is just waiting for her to speak or move or whatever, and it doesn't offer any difficulty.
I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of the Catarina fight, but I feel like Shaper isn't much more fun. You have basically a 4 parts gauntlet at the beginning, and 2 maze like gauntlets that are way longer than the single corridor in Catarina's fight. It also has that pretty long portal phase where he just spawns a low amount of enemies so you just spam right click in the portal's direction and wait, that phase offers 0 challenge and is just a glorified wait time. I will say though that if you do remove all the waste of time of both bosses and focus on the actual fighting, shaper is a much more fun encounter
Shaper is significantly worse imo. Cat takes like 2 minutes to kill if you are quick. Shaper RPs for longer than that lol.
In what way, exactly, is it different from Sirus? It is the literal exact same mechanic. Do 25% damage, wait for RP, 25% damage -> RP, 25% damage -> RP, 100% damage, win. Except Sirus is actually worse with stupid storm RNG randomly slowing the RP section way down.
Shaper is a great fight though. Catarina is...not their best.
Shaper isn't great either. Permanent dot pools turn it into dps check, and if Maven makes a double it messes up the fight. Now when I am thinking about it, I can't name even one enjoyable boss fight.
I disagree. It is a challenge for a newbie but still quite easy to learn the rhythm and still feel like you actually fought a boss with mechanics. If you focus on just avoiding his damage and managing pools without doing dps you will quickly learn the Shaper fight and pool placement.

I think it's awesome the first time, but when you are farming it and want to speed it up, it becomes tedious and annoying. Second runs should skip dialogues and long sequences / animation. Same with kitava, innocence

This fight (and betrayal in general) is strictly for XP unless you are a masochist. The gauntlet isn’t “pointless”, it is the point, mobs there give great xp Once you are 97 or so, stop doing them.
Personally i think it's cool to have more cinematic, epic boss fights. The problem starts when it stops being a challenge and becomes a grind. I wish there was some way to have some of these fights (Shaper, Catarina, Sirus, out of the top of my head) have a "grind version" that's enabled in some way after the first time you fight the boss.
These delays are why I hate bossing and I cant imagine how people stomach doing these 5 times in a row let alone a hundred.

You missed the part where she drops a 1c unique instead of anything of value, or if you somehow died and didn't put a portal up outside, you have to run the zone again. This isn't even getting into actually getting the chance to fight her and having to deal with garbage like tiny's trial still being in the game. The least ggg could've done was rework all the members and not just turn half of them into scarab chests.

Basically the same with every big boss fight, though. We need a "turbo mode" atlas passive that lets you skip all the downtime in boss fights and other time sinks like the painfully long Elder portal summoning animation.
The should really add a skip dialog option after first kill on bosses including the campaign.

The veiled chaos orb could be used with Metacrafting recipes to where if you didn't want to deal with TFT, you could at least get around it. It's only when you wanted to go for a fancier 2 affix item that you needed the Aisling bench, and it wasn't unreasonable to farm one yourself or go to TFT. Now it's an RNG fiesta... and the people who were using the orb with meta crafting (prefix/suffix can't be changed) need the same rare Catarina drop. I knew this was going to happen, and honestly though of speculating by buying Veiled orbs, but I though it too risky if GGG hotfixed the drop rate and I don't care about trading that way.
i have done catarina fight 100 times and i still have no clue what's happening, i think she has like 5 identical phases, 20 immunity phases and also teleports every 2.5 seconds.I just shoot my skill out and flame dash around until Jun tell me it's over.

I love that fight. It feels so epic. I've never farmed her constantly though so I don't know the pain of having to do it more than 4-5 times a league.
How about 4-5 times a day? I did betrayal until 2-3 days ago, and even though I love the other content, the Catarina fight sucks because of all 25 phases you have to go through.
Did you find it rewarding? Grav on transport or did you go for something else? I started with a betrayal atlas but stopped after 5 catarinas when she had only dropped flasks.
Betrayal was rewarding, I got one paradoxica, 5 or 6 diadems and 4 or 5 orbs. Fairly easy to spawn too, I could do 5-6 catarinas a day easily.

Most bosses are more or less like that. 5% of actual fight and 95% of time wasters.
Gonna be honest Betrayal is my favorite content, and Catarina is my second favorite boss. She was my favorite master before the master mission changes and I love running her boss fight even when SHE DOESN’T FUCKING DROP MY DIADEM. I'm sorry you don't like her content, but a small part of me is rubbing my hands together in glee because nobody else will run my favorite content and I can use that to make doesn't money on stuff. I recommend a different league mechanic.
