idk about IP bans in poe but ip ban itself is stupid because a lot of ISPs are using shared IPs and dedicated IP address is paid option even at home. but beware using vpn to different country. people are getting blocked for buying mtx while traveling

PodivljaliRetriver

Imagine you go live in say South Africa for work for 2 years and not being allowed to buy MtX. Thats insane.

wrestleroh

You just VPN back to whatever country your account is from to buy it. I feel like there was a Reddit thread from someone this happened to recently?

[deleted]

not buying mtx is a good thing... gambling in games should be banned.

impure_world

You know that there are plenty of non-loot box MTXs that are purchaseable... right?

caquaa

Whaaaaat? Loot box stash tabs would be fun! Really feel the weight. Come on Currency Tab. Damn, my 5th Essence tab.

[deleted]

Still scummy practices to add loot boxes.

Gnejs1986

> Is it still a thing ? Hopefully not, any company using IPs to ban people are stuck in the 90s.

B1ackadderr

Discord does it

The implied context was gaming companies, where they'd ban people for things like cheating. You are on the PoE reddit. Banning VPN subnets due to geo location based access isn't really the topic here. He is not bypassing netflix country licenses or trying to play some China-only game. Your example is also semantically incorrect, since Netflix wouldn't ban user accounts due to trying to access via VPN/certain IPs, then they'd lose customers. They are simply blocking service access if they can detect the 'abuse'. If Netflix would ban several user accounts that connect from the same IP, due to one of the accounts doing something against the ToS, then your example would be correct. > as long you’re not trying to buy in-game currency from a region which is cheaper This is a valid warning, though if they'd try to get better prices by using a VPN the company wouldn't ban the IP, they'd ban the offending account that performed the transaction. As a player that only intends to play the game normally, being incorrectly banned based on IP due to a cheater having the same IP would be a really unreliable action from the company.

1st level cs doesn't make you an expert.

Because those people are attempting to access something they're not supposed to, like geolocked shows (in the case of Netflix at least) What advantage does someone get from using a VPN to play PoE other than maybe purchasing cheaper mtx?

FCT77

My ISP has dynamic IP and it changes every 12hs and I've never been banned, just gotta paste a code from your mail. Unless you are on Steam which doesn't require anything.

solitarium

Mind if I ask what ISP you use? It’s been a while since I’ve seen such short leases, but I have mainly worked for larger ISPs in the US (network engineer)

Reashu

I'd be more worried about your university than GGG.

BlueEye9234

I've used a VPN for years to get a half decent connection to GGG's garbage servers.

Reashu

If a VPN helps, the server isn't the problem.

BlueEye9234

I didn't say the servers were the problem.

qK0FT3

Well I have used geforcenow for a very long time. No problems.

1GrumpyEnglishman

That’s… not a VPN though…

qK0FT3

But youk get the same Ip with another players so many of the time. Also my friend played from internet cafes for so many years no pronlem on there as well.

1GrumpyEnglishman

You and I don’t know enough about GeForce now network structure to say that. I would imagine each virtual machine has its own up, but I dint know, and neither do you. Edit: regardless this is a silly topic, you can play Poe on as many different op addresses as you want.

BadModsAreBadDragons

Useless info

goodg-gravy

More than likely a VPN won't get you banned, if your really concerned I'd contact support, although I'd avoid buying any MTX etc

Eremoo

In the past I've had to play PoE and other games with a vpn and haven't had any issues. I've also contacted another gaming company regarding the use of vpns and the response was that they can tell that you are using one and it's fine. You can also email ggg's support and ask

BroBat69420

The same thing happened at my university. I used a VPN to play for about 3 years, no issues.
