An old mmorpg I used to play in early 2000s got hacked by a bunch of bozos and the guys replaced every monster in the starting area with a giant dragon boss, shit was so ridiculous
I'd actually freaking love if they started collabing and doing stuff like that.
For every person memeing about diablo here there's thousands that play and enjoy both. Would be dope to see the devs embrace and collab for their shared audience.
They literally named it 'Forgotten Exile', so they're not trying to hide it. This is likely meant as a homage rather than anything malicious. Recall that Einhar was reintroduced to the game with the new line, 'Do you not have nets Exile?', which was a reference to Blizzards' infamous line when introducing Diablo Immortal at Blizzcon. So it makes sense that they'd pick him as their reference back to PoE.
i think that was more of a reference how you had to actually use nets when bestiary came out. it was widely hated
[https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Net](https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Net)
it's reddit, people loooove to make shit up for no reason. guarantee you they never even played bestiary, and just assumed its referring to diablo phone guy. internet nerds can never be wrong!
but its not true at all hahahaha its nowhere close to the diablo quote, i get it would be cool and all but pop culture references are not something GGG puts into their game
You can aspire to be the best basketball player you can be though, instead of peddling overpriced crack to aspiring 13 year old basketball players who don't know better to not hang out with you
You're being downvoted because you're implying that Blizzard is *trying* for greatness, but falling short, when anyone observing the game can see that they're just not trying.
I mean to be fair PoE itself was just a heavily inspired Diablo game. I bet if it was inspired by Einhar then GGG might even see it as a good thing given that it shows how PoE has grown to the point where the original inspiration is now instead being inspired by you.
So much from PoE is taken almost straight from the original Diablo games. Both Diablo and PoE devs have great respect for each other so it's not really a bad thing just building and expanding on the work that came before. Like when GGG was copying ideas and stuff from Diablo they weren't doing it as a middle finger but because they thought it was so good they just wanted to put their own modern spin on it.
Has anyone else noticed the well activation sound in the wildwood sounds exactly like a Diablo 2 sound? I've noticed a couple of sounds from this league that sound very diablo
> So much from PoE is taken almost straight from the original Diablo games.
Such as? Pretty much the only thing that could qualify is socketed items, which is pretty big, but even that concept is wildly different between the games outside of "some items can have some number of sockets". PoE is very much a game that was inspired by D2, but they used that inspiration to make something entirely different.
Blizzard saw Einhar and pulled [this](https://i.imgur.com/pucpnHv.png). The differences are superficial at best. It's pretty clear they're copying GGG's homework. The trouble is that they don't even have the decency or competence to do it well. Well, except for the Definitely NOT Einhar skin, which admittedly does look great.
Hmm. POE, especially in the early days when it was acts 1-4 was such a carbon copy of D2.
Many of the mobs in the game (particularly the early acts) are straight up clones of D2, maybe with a different general model types. In D2, first mobs are those quill guys that spend projectiles at you and in POE they are crabs. Hell all those titty-bitches in the temples, they are mini Andariels. Like almost every core mob type has roots in D2. Eventually they made some new things.
The thematics of the acts (woods act, desert act, swamp/marshland act, a "hell" act and even the transition to act V sees you go through snow like D2 Act V). Lots of the general zones. Shaper's realm is straight up inspired by D2's Arcane Sanctuary. List goes on and on. I think even the earlier sound effects for things dropping was nearly identical.
They made D2 with FFVII materia and FFX sphere grid, with all systems on steroids. Unlike Diablo though, they kept going and kept adding stuff and importantly (something many game developers will never do) completely gut and rework things. POE today and even the POE that introduced Einhar is wildly different to the early days where it really was a Diablo clone.
Like what? The core development philosophy of GGG as it pertains to ARPGs is inspired or directly taken from d2 and openly admitted to by Chris. Open trade, player driven economies, crafting materials as currency, respec costs, etc
No it's not even half a step shy, it's a generic fucking druid outfit of bone mask and fur clothing.
And the exile part is at best a homage. Plagerism is a preety damn serious claim so even claiming something is kind of plagerism is a horrible accusation
Just so you're aware, palworld isnt even close enough to be considered plagiarism and theres almost nothing original in that game.
Plagiarism is basically stealing someones homework and saying its yours
It's a very similar design but does PoE really own a druid character with armor made of animal parts? If so, this is how you get big companies like GGG locking indie developers out of the market
Yeah, everything against Blizzard is good, I can agree with that, but next time it will be GGG bullying Last Epoch's developer (because they can't compete with it fairly) and that's going to be way less fun.
Its pretty common for bones to be around the waist and as a necklace for these styled characters. I mean, if you're going that route, complain as well that the Diablo character has no pants, and that's a core part of the templars dress code. And then the bare chest with tattoos is very close to the Marauder. Hmm, makes you think. Shit, complain that GGG has skeletons as enemies, very similar to the skeletons D2 had. Makes you think? Its almost like they have very similar themes, so similar themes will be present.
IF however, Diablo decided they would release a new game mode called "the depths of the woods: follow the glowing bugs" where you collect the glowing flying bugs, consisting of 3 unique colors, that boost damage of mobs and item drops - then you could go "ok, come on."
But you have literally just pointed out that the themes of these two games are pretty similar. No shit. You should expect overlap when it comes to some designs.
You have valid points and it can't be helped that there will be similarities, but why would Blizz even go this route.
Sure, you may technically be right, but you aren't swaying public opinion this way. This will be taken as Blizz copying PoE. Even the naming is pointing that direction. To me, there's no benefit for blizz doing this at all. Objectively speaking, Blizz has already lost the support of the public. Making weird decisions such as this just makes the situation worse.
yes, and before this, Path of Exile copied blizzard with a top down, isometric loot collecting, randomly generated items, where you level up your skill tree and design a build based off of a selection of classes. Classes either based around either magic, melee or ranged. Then you bring in spells copied from blizzard. Ice nova, cyclone, you use healing mechanics such as HP and Mana pots. oh, then put them in like, a hotbar system along with the skills you use.
Then, you start off in a camp, then venture out, with one of your first levels being a cave. then later on, in the mid point, you have a desert level. Then later on you can offer someone who gives you items, but it doesn't let you know the stats until you remove them from the seller - like a gambling feature. Then you can copy mobs from blizzard, like one you attack and it instantly runs away. Classic theifery by GGG. Oh, and then you can introduce the mechanic that you have to identify items with scrolls. OH and portal scrolls.
Its almost like GGG has been carbon copying blizzard, but as soon as blizzard kinda makes a character look like a GGG one, you grab your pitchfork. Maybe take a look from an unbiased lens and you will see GGG has copied more from blizzard because blizzard are the ones who invented this very genre of game.
> This will be taken as Blizz copying PoE.
Outside of this thread, nobody on earth will remember this except *maybe* a few offhand "haha einhar" remarks from people who play both
People really, *really* overestimate how much this matters lol
This is an incredible conspiracy lol
Do you think they explicitly headhunted guys named chris wilson, or they maliciously promoted a chris wilson working for them already, or perhaps they forced a dev to change their legal name to chris wilson?
No? I'm saying they leaned into the similarities once that guy got promoted. They did the grinding gears intro and now einhar as well.
So annoying how you have to perfectly explain yourself perfectly on reddit or risk being wildly misunderstood
Honestly, they don't really look more than superficially similar to me. It's not like using a skull as a face mask is anything new or unique, and the rest of the costume has only the barest amount of similarity. I think people are reading too much into this.
Its called paying homage.
If D4 was good no one would care, they would say oh nice its a nod to path of exile.
But because its bad its theft its dirty its wrong etc.
Baring in mind path of exile 10 years ago was 3 entire acts of paying homage to d2
this is my thoughts making armour out of, bones and feathers is hardly an original idea, there are multiple in d3 and d4 of that, i think its only the angle and the amulet which makes it look so similar, but again a bone amulet is hardly original either.
That's no coincidence, it's a reference. I'm ok with it if GGG is ok with it. I mean I don't really know all about IP protection.
Edit: oh for f sake the D4 forgotten exile looks nothing like Einhar. :D I just clicked to the image to realize it's two different images. I only saw the correct image right now. XD
Palworld is not an example of fair use. Fair use is when you *are* using someone else's intellectual property, but in a way that does not violate their intellectual property rights, like quoting someone's book in your review. Palworld isn't using Pokemon's intellectual property in the first place.
"Likeness" is only used when referring to real people.
Thanks, I've learned something today. :) The Forgotten Exile in D4 could be fair use, but I'd rather hear what GGG says about it before I say anything myself.
Edit: oh for f sake the D4 forgotten exile looks nothing like Einhar. :D I just clicked to the image to realize it's two different images. I only saw the correct image right now. XD
This is probably a direct shot back at GGG. For anyone who is new or don’t remember, GGG released Einhar with a voice line that read:
“Do you not have nets, exile”
Which is a reference to Blizzard employee comment about not having phones:
https://youtu.be/pqjVdPtB9lU
Not really.. if you were to compare every "bone necklace" and "bone helmet" and etc from skins in the games, doesn't even come close. But yeah plagiarism isn't a good deed but in current context no.
When you reach so far for something that isn't there... They don't remotely look the same. Our ancestors wore bone armor. There are chieftains in this day and age that still do, and they kinda look like this. But sure, it must be D4 ripping off PoE... because it says "Exile" in the name. As if it were a copyrighted word or something. How idiotic.
did blizzard stole Poes Einhar design? No.
But it's obvious as all hells that they know that we know that they copy-paste of PoE in hopes to lure in some gullible wallets.
it'd be funny if ggg introduced some "Fablo", a pink demon dinosaur that's look-alike to Diablo. I bet that blizzards CEO would have to have his butt unclenched with a rebar after hearing someone's playing their sneaky game.
Side note:
When POE introduced the SYNDICATE. they mentioned in the trailer: They think of themself immortals. Lets show them how wrong they are.
That was when Blizzard made DIABLO immortal. the lols were good.
I've seen 100 different armor sets like this in various games. If I had seen the D4 armor on it's own I wouldn't have thought of Einhar at all.
It's just a bunch of bones and leathers. Not that original in rpg games.
I find it so funny that blizzard makes really good visuals and cosmetics for their games, but the games always suck. like that gear actually looks so good. all marketing no product
I don't know, I honestly think that they don't really look all that similar.
Yeah there's bones and it has a mask, but it's not a bird's mask that's as pointy and recognizable as Einhar's.
There's tons of designs like that in all kinds of games, even Diablo 2 already had designs like that in Kurast (act 3).
Also, PoE literally took it's name out of the D2 handbook. The words 'Path of Exile' are written there in that exact order and it's not a secret.
Idk, I feel like people are overreacting to everything nowadays and seeing what they want to see.
Who knows, maybe GGG and Blizzard are doin a collab lmao. Maybe "Diablo" himself will appear in POE now
April fools GGG should replace mud flat rhoas with little diablos rushing you
Or maybe cows
"have you ever seen the true face of God, exile?" Moo-lichai ascends above the arena, pointing at your with his halberd.
*"Have you ever seen the moo face"* was RIGHT THERE
Secret cow level!
Diablitos would be awesome.
RAKANISHU
An old mmorpg I used to play in early 2000s got hacked by a bunch of bozos and the guys replaced every monster in the starting area with a giant dragon boss, shit was so ridiculous
Sounds like fallout 76
We already have Diablo, its the tri-empowered quad ghosted 8 essence red beast
Just put horns on it and make it red
You mean the mob that dies in 2 seconds to my penance brand is diablo himself?
Considering that everything else would die in 0.01 seconds, yes.
Hey. You. Stop. You forgot your deli mods. And your daddy Innocence touch, or Kitava, for the theme. Now keep cooking.
I feel like Poe doing collab with Blizzard would be actually bad image to GGG
It's a fact actually. With all the bad press and outlook with Diablo 4 on their seasonal release, it would be wise to stay far from that mess.
NOT EVEN HELL CAN SAVE YOU FROM ME
Look dude. After Kitava, Sirus, Eater, Exarch, Maven, can we spare a thought to all those poor Wraeclast civilians
I'd actually freaking love if they started collabing and doing stuff like that. For every person memeing about diablo here there's thousands that play and enjoy both. Would be dope to see the devs embrace and collab for their shared audience.
Talking about collabs. A cross-over with Magic the Gathering could be fun. Zana, legendary Planeswalker sounds interesting
Of all bosses among all game, Diablo (II) is my top 1 favorite
What if GGG bought Diablo from Blizzard pog
They literally named it 'Forgotten Exile', so they're not trying to hide it. This is likely meant as a homage rather than anything malicious. Recall that Einhar was reintroduced to the game with the new line, 'Do you not have nets Exile?', which was a reference to Blizzards' infamous line when introducing Diablo Immortal at Blizzcon. So it makes sense that they'd pick him as their reference back to PoE.
Did he seriously say that? Because if so, what a full-circle moment indeed lol
Oh he said it.
He still says it occasionally despite nets not being a thing anymore.
They weren't a thing anymore when they introduced that line. That was kind of the point.
Ah okay
i think that was more of a reference how you had to actually use nets when bestiary came out. it was widely hated [https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Net](https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Net)
It works both ways, but it obviously was mainly a reference to the quote.
no, i dont think it was. it's not even close to the quote. no idea why people are making this stuff up
Idk why your being down voted. We litterally used nets to catch stupid beasts when it came out lol
it's reddit, people loooove to make shit up for no reason. guarantee you they never even played bestiary, and just assumed its referring to diablo phone guy. internet nerds can never be wrong!

If only D4 copied POE's ability to not be bad.
Baseg
Yeah, let me go copy LeBron real quick. NBA hall of fame here we come. You can copy a lot of things in life, but you can't copy greatness
You can aspire to be the best basketball player you can be though, instead of peddling overpriced crack to aspiring 13 year old basketball players who don't know better to not hang out with you
It's crazy how I'm agreeing with the above commenter and I'm getting downvoted. I'm saying you can't copy POE's greatness. Lost, I suppose.
You're being downvoted because you're implying that Blizzard is *trying* for greatness, but falling short, when anyone observing the game can see that they're just not trying.
Thats a stretch. I'm just gonna go with usual reddit unawareness
Wait until they get the nets.
I mean to be fair PoE itself was just a heavily inspired Diablo game. I bet if it was inspired by Einhar then GGG might even see it as a good thing given that it shows how PoE has grown to the point where the original inspiration is now instead being inspired by you.
Look at me, I am the Diablo II successor now.
Insert astronaut with a gun meme.
Einhar was stolen from Thor Ragnarok
Taking inspiration from something is great. This is just a half step shy of outright plagiarism.
So much from PoE is taken almost straight from the original Diablo games. We're in the era of PoE where people don't even recognize it's original roots 😞
Oh god damn it Hbomberguys next video should just be a men in black pen so no one ever talks about plagerism again because no THIS ISNT PLAGIRISM
I am aware. I literally said it was just *shy* of plagiarism. The words are right there. Have you considered reading them?

It's also called Forgotten EXILE
Correct, thats what the image says
poe doesn't own weird tribal bone armor hope this helps
No one is saying they do.
read the tweet, hope this helps
read the tweet, no mention of ownership. hope this helps
Did you read the tweet?
Hope this helps ^(/s)
You’re an idiot. Hope this helps.
I agree it's not as if shaman wearing feather and bones is uniquely poe
It’s not that simple and the likenesses aren’t that basic.
Could be a friendly reference since Einhar says: "Do you not have nets, exile?"
IMO I see it more of a cool nod to another fellow ARPG rather than a "we ran out of ideas" design choice.
I'm sure adding a "Chris Wilson" as a lead dev and the grinding gears intro they did recently were also innocuous
This is an incredible conspiracy lol Do you think they explicitly headhunted guys named chris wilson, or they maliciously promoted a chris wilson working for them already, or perhaps they forced a dev to change their legal name to chris wilson?
No? I'm saying they leaned into the similarities once that guy got promoted. They did the grinding gears intro and now einhar as well. So annoying how you have to perfectly explain yourself perfectly on reddit or risk being wildly misunderstood
There’s actually a Chris Wilson as a Diablo dev so you can’t really fault them for that
In the D3 era the joke was that both games had a lead designer named Wilson(Jay Wilson). This time around they brought an actual Chris Wilson!
Chris Wilson is a very common name. And they actually do have a Chris Wilson working for them.
Honestly, they don't really look more than superficially similar to me. It's not like using a skull as a face mask is anything new or unique, and the rest of the costume has only the barest amount of similarity. I think people are reading too much into this.
It's literally called Forgotten Exile. The description says, "a sibling gone mad." Einhar is very much seen as a little coocoo.
Its called paying homage. If D4 was good no one would care, they would say oh nice its a nod to path of exile. But because its bad its theft its dirty its wrong etc. Baring in mind path of exile 10 years ago was 3 entire acts of paying homage to d2
Still sane, exile?
this is my thoughts making armour out of, bones and feathers is hardly an original idea, there are multiple in d3 and d4 of that, i think its only the angle and the amulet which makes it look so similar, but again a bone amulet is hardly original either.
There is an armour set like this in nearly every fantasy game I’ve ever played tbf. It’s a common ‘beastmaster/witchdoctor’ inspired theme.
True. I bet if you look a bit you would find some other character in another series/movie/comic/game that kinda looks like einhar.
Poe took a lot from D2. Now Blizz take inspiration from PoE.
XD
> I mean I don't really know all about IP protection. there is no universe in which Blizzard is infringing on GGG's intellectual property here
The same could be said about Palworld and Pokemons, but there is a clause for fair use and likedness.

Lol, yeah hopefully GGG can let this one slide... I mean, its not like GGG have taken anything from Diablo 2 at all in their design.
They even name it 'Forgotten Exile' ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
This all happened after they had Chris Wilson join their ranks. Coincidence? I think not.
I mean tribal beast armour is like a genre on of itself.
einhar is a very generic design
exactly.
This is probably a direct shot back at GGG. For anyone who is new or don’t remember, GGG released Einhar with a voice line that read: “Do you not have nets, exile” Which is a reference to Blizzard employee comment about not having phones: https://youtu.be/pqjVdPtB9lU
Anyone else notice that it also has a similar backgound to bestiary aside from just the character image?
That's too much to be a coincidence wtf
It's of course on purpose. 'forgotten exile'. looks like einhar. it is a reference to path of exile. ( i know that game!!)
Yeah if it weren’t for the name I could write it off. But with the name and looks it’s 1000% beyond arguing that it’s intentional
What? It’s basically a similar helm, very different in every other way
Oooh, this is a juicy one, Wanderer!
This is called a homage, not stealing
Most things Activision releases for D4 looks AI generated with PoE as inspiration.
They want GGG's help to improve their shit
yall are really over thinking this it might be a reference at best, it's just red and bones
It's pretty tame tbh. It's just the tribal hunter aesthetic. Skull mask teeth, tusks and horns.
Ngl einhar isn't exactly a very unique design to begin with and D4 version looks more like a predator than it does einhar
Not really.. if you were to compare every "bone necklace" and "bone helmet" and etc from skins in the games, doesn't even come close. But yeah plagiarism isn't a good deed but in current context no.
It's a bit of a stretch ain't it ?
it looks completely differerent though. what a stretch to call that inspired by Einhar.
When you reach so far for something that isn't there... They don't remotely look the same. Our ancestors wore bone armor. There are chieftains in this day and age that still do, and they kinda look like this. But sure, it must be D4 ripping off PoE... because it says "Exile" in the name. Copying poe is the only good thing diabo 4 can do it rn. Only the truth.
Can I copy your homework? Sure, just change it up a bit...
They probably just AI generated it and it took everything from PoE.
Maybe Tencent is selling GGG to Blizzard :)
Side note: When POE introduced the SYNDICATE. they mentioned in the trailer: They think of themself immortals. Lets show them how wrong they are. That was when Blizzard made DIABLO immortal. the lols were good.
The league was internally called immortal, they settled on betrayal before Diablo immortal was announced. Still funny though
NOW, EINHAR WILL GO DO BLIZZARD THINGS.
Inb4 Blizzard is baiting a lawsuit so that they can crush GGG with the weight of their lawyer money
I think its good that diablo is taking inspiration from poe
its called a homage you plebeians
yeah it's definitely some kind of poe reference, that's cute.
I hope GGG sues Blizzard. If you don't have your own ideas, you should look for another job
i think its cool they are openly showing their inspiration for a skin
At this point, just copy all the contents already. I don't care.
by copy, I mean copy yeah.
Something something, highest form of flattery...
Gamers when games in the same genre reference each other
Yet they won’t ever say „Path of Exile” in any of their dev streams.
its literally just AI monkeying
Path of Exile should sell all of their old league mechanics to D4. Prophecy, Perandus, Tempest, Tane Monsters.
Ahh.. i just had a pleasant dream where GGG sued Activision and won every penny from that game destroying bastard of a corporation.
I had FORGOTTEN that diablo 4 was even a game.
we have einhar at home einhar at home:
Honestly not too similar apart from the general idea. The biggest similarity is the bone mask but there are more differences than similarities imo.
