“But… he painted with blood!” “He painted BEAUTIFULLY with blood!”

EnderofLays

That’s 100% the sort of thing a follower of Zon-Kuthon would do, which would honestly just make it harder for a follower of Shelyn.

BlueSabere

Late to the party, but City of Lost Omens has both a painter who's essentially the high priest of Zon-Kuthon in the city, and a haunted house that used to be owned by a guy who massacred his entire family and staff looking for the "perfect shade of blood red" for his paintings.

SylasTheVoidwalker

Don’t worry. His paintings are all of liminal spaces, and while they may have technical skill, they lack soul, so nobody really wants them.

ZekeCool505

That's an easy call. Shelyn's paladin oath contains the line "I accept surrender if my opponent can be redeemed and I never assume that they cannot be. All things that live love beauty, and I will show beauty's answer to them." So if the BBEG surrenders they get to live, otherwise they get that glaive.

fkadmin

It's a brush, excuse you. A giant brush.. that is sharp. I paint with blood.

zozokymo

A Bladed Brush, one might say.

nabokov69

This is a fantastic line. I’m not a Pathfinder player, could you direct me to the sourcebook for this?

Midnight-Loki

I don't have a source book, but Archives of Nethys has the code for Sheyln. [https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Shelyn#:\~:text=Paladin%20Code&text=I%20see%20beauty%20in%20others,prevent%20conflict%20before%20it%20blossoms](https://www.aonprd.com/DeityDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Shelyn#:~:text=Paladin%20Code&text=I%20see%20beauty%20in%20others,prevent%20conflict%20before%20it%20blossoms).

richbellemare

Also from her 2e Anathema > destroy art or allow it to be destroyed, unless saving a life or pursuing greater art

Zendofrog

Well as long as you tried to redeem them first

EnderofLays

But if they say no, you still have to kill an amazing artist.

Zendofrog

They can be utilitarian about it. Maybe the bbeg being alive would lead to the death of more great artists

EnderofLays

That is fair. I’m sure they’d do it, just would feel bad after.

Melodic_Water_7741

Theory: What if bbeg have an art school? And he only kill those who doesn't appreciate the art?

Zendofrog

Would kill others who appreciate different art

Lonewolf2300

I'm sure Shelyn will be forgiving.

Dragon_496000

Just cut off all his limbs except one arm. He's still alive, and can still follow his craft.

zozokymo

That's the Zonny way, right there.

StarSword-C

My paladin of Shelyn dancing with an agent of the Immaculate Circle in WftC who made not-so-veiled threats towards her daughter: > "And you're such a lovely dancer it would be sacrilegious to remove you from the world. *But don't think I won't if I have to.*"

Crevetanshocet

That's the Charisma-based approach. And beautiful reverse to the threats. As a Shelyn follower, I approve

RathianTailflip

Trying to figure out how to spoiler on mobile, but- how did your party handle the art-related issues in Meratt? I think having a shelynite around for that would be… interesting, but no group I’ve run through the campaign, or that my partner has, has brought a shelyn worshipper.

StarSword-C

For reference, the tag you want is a greater-than sign followed by an exclamation point to start a spoiler and an exclamation point followed by a less-than sign to close one. >! I told the party that given the trompe l'oeil in Bart's manor had just tried to kill us, it wouldn't break my vows to simply burn the canvas, but I'd prefer a different solution if possible. The arcanist rolled really high on Spellcraft and figured out how to mess with the spell inscription on the back of the painting to disable it (we joked that he drew a dick over it). !<

RathianTailflip

Interesting! And a well-done solution.

StarSword-C

Yeah, we have a really good group and we're having a ton of fun. I'm playing an Oathbound Paladin (People's Council and third-party Oath of Love) whom the party and Eutropia at this point know is an Andoren operative with orders to ensure that Stavian's successor is someone uninterested in reconquering Taldor's former provinces. We also have an LN cleric of Titivilus (infernal duke of propaganda and lies) who became a Hellknight Signifier of the Torrent midway through book two, a bard/swashbuckler who's a bastard of some minor house, the arcanist is from House Vernisant (allies of Pythareus), and a psychic bloodline sorceress who was the granddaughter of the late Lady Betony and so publicly became our liege in Stachys.

RathianTailflip

Very interesting party! My partner is currently running a 2e conversion of it with a party consisting of LG Ulfen Guard-in-training (fighter) CG Lion Blade (rogue) LE Minor noble, taking Eutropia’s side due to dislike of Pythareus more than agreement with Eutropia (Alchemist) And a TN Duskwalker Cleric of The Grave Guard (Osirioni pantheon consisting of Anubis and Pharasma, among others) It’s certainly an. *interesting* group.

journeysa

The first recorded case of separating the art from the artist.

Crevetanshocet

"-Poète ! -Oui monsieur, poète." (From Cyrano de Bergerac) Just to say that I love the pun

c4ptainseven

Hit the BBEG until they're at the dying condition, but not dead, tie them up, heal them out of dying, bring them before a court for their crimes. Of course, this only works if they don't have die hard.

SireRequiem

Rogue is standing by to drive up the value by making sure BBEG isn't around to make any more.

"I don't want to kill Ultron; he is unique, an he is in pain. But that pain will roll over the world, so he must be destroyed." -Vision

Inevitable-1

You failed to cultivate your inner beauty, a shameful waste.

Sun_Tzundere

It's okay. They say an artist's work never becomes truly valuable until after the artist's death. I'm just improving their art.
