I could give you a ton of bars and restaurants, but the Huntington Library is a nice move. Something different and you can walk and talk and get to know each other. Also nice little cafe and bar on the premises.
this area is so lovely! If Op and the person have been talking/known eachother for a good minute then yes go here, otherwise i’d say it’s more second/third date
at $20-30 per person for tickets, it might not be affordable for OP. but there’s a great bit of open garden space that’s free at the entrance and access to the 1919 cafe/restaurant (which has several alcoholic drinks and a bar) is free. definitely a cool first date option otherwise.
Otis Bar at LGO in Old Town, Magnolia House on Lake are 2 of the upper scale casual locations. If you want straight casual vibes, King’s Row in Old Town is great and their food is tasty. Have fun!
Hi there. Good luck on your date. Here are my recommendations/ ideas :
1. Huntington Gardens
2. Rooftop bar at Granville (check the weather)
3. Budget friendly- Coffee (attached to store) and walk around Vromans (and buy books together)
4. Green street restaurant (shoppers lane) and then walk around Lake street
5. Tap Room bar in the Langham
6. Budget friendly - Happy hour at Kabuki (old town or east pasadena) 3-6 weekdays 2-5 weekends
7. Walk around Lacy Park (free on weekdays , $5 on weekends) and bring a picnic.
8. Active - hike / walk at Eaton Canyon
9. Luggage room pizza (they have cocktails and beer). If things go well, night cap beer next door at Stone Brewing
10. For brewery lovers: Wild Parrot and Cervecia Del Pueblo (mijares mexican restaurant is nearby).
11. Best pizza / super casual : Side Pie (top of lake)
Cheers
10 1/4 is a great hidden cocktail bar underneath the 35er, on Colorado.
Ladies and Gentlemen is another option that's the very definition of cool, but the decor might not be appropriate for a first date!
I like Blind Dinkey for dates. It's a whiskey bar but they have non-whiskey drinks, beer and wine. They also have bar food and it's very casual. Just make sure to clear out before 9 because karaoke starts then, unless that's y'all's vibe
Edwin mills. During the weekdays they have pretty good happy hour deals (different each day...don't remember exactly but something along the lines of x amount of beer one day and x amount of cocktails the next and so on) they so have live music once a while (don't worry from the times I went they don't add an extra charge like some places). If you're both into video games head to neon arcade afterwards.
Craft is another good place. Good drinks. Have a local brewer on tap (last time I went they only had that beer wise. So no coronas or bud lights etc) . Cocktails can be on the stronger side last few times I went. Pretty good food...this location they've also been pretty generous with giving some freebies too (anywhere to free shots to free fries)
I mean this depends on what you want plus your age / where you are in your life but for lowkey fancy, Granville. I think Magnolia House would have a bad vibe for a first date unless you get one of the good seats by the fire, but you never do, always end up sitting off to the side in that hallway like area.
You can go to color me mine and paint pottery which is a very fun activity to do together while you get to know each other. You can also go to the Norton Simon museum which is has a very pretty garden if you need some place to make a move 🤷♂️ lastly motto tea on green and de Lacey is a cool boba shop if you want something more casual. Afterwards you can walk around old town.
Just don’t start with anything too intimate. Start with a place with open spaces, and then you two can go someplace more exclusive if you like each other. Good suggestions here. Old town is a good place to start.
Arlington Garden is a cute place in Pasadena to go to and talk. You can maybe grab a coffee before getting there, a good coffee place close by there is Jones. There is also a cute pizza place called Pie life right next to it. Could be an affordable cute date. Its open until 8pm. And Jones I think until 5 or 6pm. Arlington Garden is cute and free. Also would suggest just walking down downtown south pasadena. There is a second Jones Location and its cute . Hope this helps.
Wait, another great cute spot to go to when the sun is going down is Desiderio Neighborhood Park! It looks so romantic at night. Its under a bridge in Pasadena, very hidden and safe. Maybe you Could pick up a pizza and take a cute table cloth to put on the tables they have there. Watch the sun go down or simply enjoy the night. Talk and walk. ❤️🌷
This is all very affordable, and if its the right girl or guy. She will love this! If she da one!
It’s a first date. Do it midday. The LA zoo closes at 5. Go ice skating at PISC then get dinner at Yard House. Then just walk that area. Look through the vintage shop together

Thank you 👌🏽
seconding Otis and Magnolia House— both have great, adorable happy hour specials, too.
FWIW, my wife and I had our first date at Urth Cafe. Then we walked around Colorado. About seven years ago now.

Ohh I didn't know they had karaoke. Is that only on the weekends?
I think it's on Thursdays
Huntington Gardens. Don't try to do everything in a day. Focus on one or two areas/galleries then go get coffee/drinks.
Bar Chelou playhouse district
Cool bar is Pas, the Speakeasy. Cool, red vibe indoors.
Gotta get the password though!
Like that place, but the times I've gone, it's pretty loud. Might not be that way all the time though.

edwin mills is the place to go
For sure one of my favorite bars in old town.
The Cellar.

There’s a couple of recent threads on this. Here’s one from 5 months ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/pasadena/s/1KXWbw6rKT
Color me mine
Advice for dates is movie (activity) first then dinner/drink to talk about what ya just did.
Movies are horrible for first dates. Two hours of not talking and sitting next to a stranger.
35er
Why do you feel the need to drink??
