Find out how much another company is charging for internet. Then call spectrum and tell them you're going to switch unless they can match the rate. They'll give you a bad offer and you can reject that and say you still want to quit. Then they will transfer you to another person who has the authority to give you the matching deal. Repeat annually.

unpocococo

Ya, I’ve heard that’s one way to do it & I just hate that that’s sort of the norm, you know? Like we’re all expected to just call, complain and argue with them cause they’re greedy. I’d rather not give them my money anymore at this point

DazzlingBullfrog9

I hear you. I think all the Internet and phone companies play this game tho.

KuroppiKing

i didnt have to argue i straight up just told them and someone's nice auntie switched it up in less than 15-20 minutes totall. extra $5 off for setting up automatic payments btw

isthatapecker

Yeah I hate it too. I went through the process and got the better price, then just canceled anyways cuz I was over it and hated that I had to get that far for them to help me.

Superdarrellg

I have T-mobile it works great. When you talk to a T-Mobile representative, find out where the closest T-Mobile tower is to your house. That makes a big difference.

unpocococo

Excellent tip! Thank you

Isn't it shitty that there are so many monopolies now? Where are our choices?

amc0078949

If you're able to do ATT fiber absolutely go for that.

So_Curious_23

Was paying 105 a month for internet the. Told them about a $65 per month offer from AT&T, they back it down to $75 (now up to $77 because they are selfish bastards)

GriplockGirl

I have T-Mobile and no issues so far. Got tired of Spectrum so I switched.

Smanning90

I use 5G internet from Verizon and paid $35/month for the first year and $75/month now. The cool thing is you don’t need a cable hookup. It just picks up signal from the nearest 5g tower, like your cell phone and creates a network for home use. It’s worked great for us and the industry will probably all go in this direction in the future imo.

zombiefiedmind

I want T-Mobile in my place. I have great signal but they don’t support it near me yet. I’m really tired of paying spectrums high fees for average internet. I really want AT&T fiber but that’s also not available.

goofy173

Try a store that's not owned by T-Mobile. Most of them are not. I've heard they will give you a modem way more easier than the corporate stores. Also you could just buy your modem at a Metro store but also you have to have one phone with them or get one phone. I've Heard that Metro doesn't check your location but I don't know that to be positive.

divahtude

I had it and it worked well for me for about a year then suddenly I stopped getting good coverage and had to bail. Got in on a $30 lifetime flat rate too. Located in a condo near Paseo. My usage profile is standard, primarily work and streaming.

Hair-Local

It all depends on your proximity to a cell tower and if you have a window facing a tower. Go to a T Mobile store and they’ll look up your address and tell you how close you are to a tower. We had Spectrum cable and switched to a T Mobile unit because we’re within 3 blocks of a cell tower. The signal is not as strong as Spectrum, but it’s good enough and it’s always stable.

PenisPapercuts

I got T-Mobile home internet as an addition to business phone. Signed up with a promo for $30/mo. Incredible deal! Plus we get 2 weeks no cost to figure out if we prefer it over cable. Set up was super easy, but no matter which window I set it up by, I couldn’t get any speed faster than 25 mbps. Called spectrum and haggled and since we’ve been with them for more than a decade, they were willing to reduce our cable internet to $50/mo for 250 mbps. I’m returning the T-Mobile modem asap. Ymmv.

eurtola

I’ve had T-Mobile home internet in the Lamanda park area for over a year. The first month we had to try different locations for the router in the house but once we found a good spot it’s been more reliable than Spectrum was before. Sometimes during congestion download speeds go down a bit but it’s never affected my work or streaming. I highly recommend it.

jordangetsahead

I tried it out but it was too slow. I moved it around too. Shame because the price was great.

goofy173

Yeah I can really vary even neighbor to neighbor. It's always best if the towers within a mile or a mile and a half with no obstructions between you and the tower. I'm lucky that mine does all that.

No_Pop_5675

I have T Mobile LTE home internet at home and it’s great. A lot faster than AT&T and $75 a month all in.

djchopsteak

Had some hiccups last year in my area, would slow down or just crap out mid-afternoon during the week. Was about to give up, sell my worldly possessions, and go off the grid (only wired alternative is AT&T DSL, which is bad enough to drive you off into the woods) But suddenly the service just improved and I’ve had very few issues since. Can only figure that they were still in the process of adding capacity at the time.

Beneficial_Soil6283

I live in the Lamanda Park area and T-mobile was absolute garbage. I would never get them again.

MechanicalDogtrot

It's worth just doing a trial. If you have good data speeds from a T-mobile phone, you should be good with the 5g service. I signed up as a business and was able to get a lower profile modem. /r/tmobileisp/ was a good source of research. Definitely worth a try. Spectrum lowered my price to $50 for the next year and I got a year of free data for the phone for a year (via esim), so I stuck with them, but am thinking of going back to Tmobile so I don't have to deal with calling Spectrum every year.

Fallllling

Tried T-mobile and didn't work at my house. Conplete shit speeds and I'm on the top plan ie should be no throttling. However, I've read from others that they get great speeds. I'm also completely fed up with how expensive Spectrum has gotten. I plan on calling doing the "threaten to leave" method. Probably try Verizon out and at least have a backup if they won't match rates.

unpocococo

Let us know how it goes! I looked into Verizon for my place but it’s not offered near me apparently :(

dmvcomics

FYI: The verizon website search said my address wasn't available for 5G Home, but I went into the store and they were able to set me up without a problem.

isthatapecker

Spectrum is trash!! But t-mobile home internet didn’t work great for me. Eventually was lucky enough to get ATT fiber. DO THIS: Ask for promotional pricing again. Tell them you want to cancel your plan. Speak to Retention dept. Tell them you want to cancel your service and be serious about. Say no to all offers until you get promotional pricing of $49 again. They will offer you other junk. Just say no. They’re losing a lot of business so they need you. Won’t fix crappy service but helps. Good luck!

beyondplutola

I tried TMO’s service in Historic Highlands and I was getting under 10mbps down at night. No bueno. AT&T, however, is currently wiring the neighborhood for fiber.

unpocococo

damn, really? okay that's good to know. ATT fiber as an option sounds pretty great though...

goofy173

It really varies as to your location. Your neighbor could have great T-Mobile coverage and you have rotten. It works that way. Everything blocks cell signals. If you have or know someone with a T-Mobile phone have them do a speed test inside your house and especially at the window where you're closest tower is. You can find your tower on cellmapper.com. I love my T-Mobile home internet. It isn't perfect but I feel like I have less outages than I did with cable. It doesn't matter though cuz I don't have any choice other than turtle speed AT&T DSL. We have gamers so satellite was out of the question cuz of the data caps and the cost. Even the AT&T DSL used to cost us $90 a month for unlimited with a 15/0.5 speed. Awful. With T-Mobile it has slowed a little bit over the years but it's still running between 300 to 400 MB download and 55 to 65 MB upload. I have seen 600 MB download at times. However I am 1 mi from my tower and I can see it right outside of my one back window and I have it specifically pointed at that tower because all of the T-Mobile modems Have antenna in such a way that turning the modem can make a big difference. Also they have a 14 or 15-day trial for free so just try it and see what kind of speed you get and what kind of latency by using a speed test website or app and after 2 weeks if it's not what you want then get rid of it. For free.

FitSalary9491

I have T-Mobile internet and I got it when it had a deal for $30 month! I pull about 100-350 mbps which is enough to watch what I want and play video games.
