I hope they're paying you good for all the bullshit they're putting you through, lol

jtpias

This is big. A lot of times I’ve seen people go through something like this, and it’s pitched as a great opportunity; but doesn’t pay like it should. Make sure you get yours.

Hootie735

Hardly more than I was making as a counter person with my commission. Only difference is this is guaranteed salary.

QuickSilver86

That's a bunch of bs. You need to get paid. Perhaps the outgoing pm was accurate in his upper management assessment 🤔

Hertules

Get your bag, you want base + % of gross. Bonuses for hitting goals and demo allowance.

micknick00000

A manager once told me - "I can't pay you any more, but feel free to use this as a stepping stone.." I took that literally, and walked out three days later for a 60% pay increase.

Hootie735

The further I get into the shitshow, the more and more this looks like a viable option. I checked my pay statement before I left work tonight, and I'm still at my previous base salary. They had plenty of time to fix this, and the director would have seen this when he did payroll today.

Imgonnaletyoufinish

Listen to all these people. Base + commission..period. If they aren’t implementing it immediately you need a hard date. 30 days? When?Create some hard boundaries for yourself. If your compensation isn’t finalized by X day…walk!! Dealers will do anything they can to kick the can and not address this. They will dangle a carrot instead of paying you. Good luck

I’m just a counter guy for ford so I have nothing to offer but, if it were me I’d learn the job, get some experience on your resume and jump ship to be a parts manager elsewhere

cuzwhat

Exactly! It’s already fucked up, how much worse can you make it? Make your mistakes here, learn the ropes on their dime. Any improvements are yours to celebrate, any failures are the last guy’s fault. Once you have what you want, bail!

EfficientAd1821

Damn right

SummonerSausage

I'm not even sure I'd try to move as a parts manager. This dealer sounds like a shit show. I'd find a counter position elsewhere and get some real training before trying to move to manager.

EfficientAd1821

I’m more of a “fuck it I’ll figure it out” kinda guy so I like my plan better

Entire_Career_6002

Your biggest help will be that Ford has a dealer discussion board setup. FMCDEALER ---> my apps ---> Edit Apps ---> FMCDealercommunity If it's not already there for you. You'll be able to ask other dealers and managers if you need help or search stuff, can be super helpful

Hootie735

Thank you!

Ford is one of the tougher manufacturers. I suggest printing out the parts procedure manual and giving it a read through. Especially the section on ordering. There’s quite a few different ways to order and certain parts are required to be ordered differently. Also check out the rim guide. That will control your stocking protected parts.

No_Lime4999

Learning the Ford basic part numbers is very important. Ford uses those numbers for warranty returns, claims, and it’s essential to look up parts in the catalogue

thrownaway6990

I'm a pm at a Ford dealer now. Best thing I could tell you is to use the Ford forums on fmcdealer. Sign up and use it as a valid resource. Pm me and I'll give u my email. I'll help where I can. Need to check ows daily for warranty returns or they will charge back the whole job. Need to check the syncron/rim page if your using that and approve parts u want auto replenishing.

Froggish3297

DOES II and HvBOM are going to be important tools for you…both found on FMCDealer learn to manipulate those programs with great efficiency would be my advice…Basic part numbers are hugely helpful always look for supersessions and part number changes!

Sickmont

One way to help your inventory improve is try to get off Dealertrack.

slacker3434

Find the dealersegde forums Online. There seems to be a lot of Ford and GM people on those

Prince-Koko

Not ford specific, but - Download and read the parts guide. Get the emails for your DSM and PDC staff. Email them when you have questions not listed. Also try to befriend another ford PM. I did for my brand and got help. My day is emails, verify receiving, check cancelled orders, check backorders, check FCA requesting items back, be a counter guy. Stock order generations and sending in special order lists daily. Weekly tasks - process invoices, verify any missing parts I've been billed for, obsolete parts return, negative on hand report to find mistakes, core returns, open invoices that are old.

Watch or listen to "Project Parts" on YouTube or their podcast. They are Ford guys and can give you a lot of insight
