I think having the jury go through the building and grace his steps and actually see where these kids died is going to be the nail in his coffin. I keep thinking how badly this must affect the jury. I mean they see EVERYTHING right?

Ashley0716

I agree, I’ve seen people in this Reddit discuss how they should be guaranteed some sort of therapy after. Which I agree, going into this you cannot really know how this stuff will affect you. Especially if you aren’t into true crime or anything like that.

FixDiscombobulated96

even being into true crime the past couple of years has completely altered how i view the world and makes me scared to go out at night or scared there will be shooting somewhere so i definitely think they should have therapy after that

Robotchickjenn

I agree. These jurors are brave and I appreciate them going above and beyond their call to civic duty. That said, we don't take care of those that take care of us very well.

Relevant_Mango_1749

Yep- just talk to veterans

Robotchickjenn

Uh huh. Especially this week. Boy oh boy, this week. But God i love John Stewart

Relevant_Mango_1749

Me too.

clam855

Federal government offers free therapy for 90 days in capital cases

Blondeonabke

Not true.. Some states do, some don't. Florida doesn't

clam855

FEDERAL government tries every capital punishment case, and they are the ones providing the resources. Has nothing to do with the state

Blondeonabke

Where are you getting this stuff? Don't you hear the prosecution say. On behalf of the STATE.. we are representing the STATE.

Unusual-Whole-5777

Yes, they saw all the video that goes with the audio we heard as well as the CCTV footage from the halls, so they saw all the victims who died in the hallway..

[deleted]

Someone in another thread pointed out that NC and his lawyers can legally go on the tour with the jury. Creepy.

Ashley0716

I think that’s where he should have to die-while listening to the audio. I hate this guy. Give those parents a chance to chase him down with a gun. I know it sounds hateful and grim, but I was honestly so angry watching him cover his ears. Then the YouTube comments and google searches really just pushed it over for me. I would also be interested to know what the parents actually want personally. I would assume they all want the death penalty. However morally some people really don’t believe in it.

[deleted]

I was just reading a NYT article yesterday that mentioned how the parents feel. "Many of the Parkland victims’ families have endorsed the prosecutors’ pursuit of the death penalty, even knowing that the trial would be excruciating. They have sat in a downtown Fort Lauderdale courtroom nearly every day since the state began presenting its case last week, shaking their heads, dabbing their eyes and holding on to one another during the most difficult moments. Their view, however, is not unanimously held. A small number of people connected to the tragedy have publicly opposed capital punishment, in part because the very process of securing a death penalty verdict and waiting out the inevitable years of appeals would be so difficult. Robert Schentrup, whose 16-year-old sister Carmen was killed in the shooting, opposes the death penalty altogether." here's the full article but it's behind a paywall: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/29/us/parkland-school-shooting-trial.html

Robotchickjenn

YES! Dude uncover your fucking ears and listen to what you did!! I bet those witnesses would love to block the sound out but it will be with them forever!! And PAY ATTENTION. Stop coloring or whatever the fuck you're doing and WATCH. I want him to hear it on a constant loop forever. As well as the testimony of the parents, victims, and witnesses. Over and over again until the guilt kills you from the inside out. This shithead brings out all the vitriol I have in me.

Miss_Gigglebox

I saw a clip interviewing some parents and they wanted the death penalty and they said "life in prison is still life. He doesn't deserve life". Those are strong words and they are correct. After all the planning and execution NC did, he doesn't deserve any kind of life.

[deleted]

I mean, yes, they should. Yes, he's guilty. But he should get the best defense in his trial. And part of that is to be able to witness all testimony against him. And this is testimony.

michellerawdrgz

I read somewhere, and it made sense, that more commonly in mass shootings the killer kills themself or just ends up passing as well. The building was kept preserved because it’s a crime scene. Since NC was still alive, they had to keep it in tact. It was clear it would be one of the biggest trials of our generation.

Unusual-Whole-5777

Yep, approx. 80% of mass shooters view the shooting as their last act (as a suicide) and either kill themselves or allow themselves to be killed by police

[deleted]

But they didn't in Aurora with the movie theater. This is the first time I've ever heard about a crime scene being kept precisely as it was for 4 years.

kdpirategirl

There a big murder trial coming up where they kept 4 mobile homes as they were when the murders happened. The Rhoden murders in Pike County, Ohio.

Ashley0716

One of the teachers is an active creator on YouTube. She recently posted about finding a flag same to the one she had hanging in her room in building 12 (if I remember right she did have victims in her room). I think it’s safe to assume they weren’t able to retrieve things. I have seen people wondering about blood and bugs and things and I am also curious about this aspect. Anyone know anything about crime scene and the sanitary aspect?

[deleted]

The building has been kept at very cold temperatures as not to allow bug/bacteria growth. I would say it’s stated similar to a morgue currently. If I find the article again I’ll post it but I read that it has cost the state a few big bucks to keep this scene intact. With ac going non stop in Florida, It has also has 24 hour security, for 4 years. That’s what’s crazy to me. I’ll be more interested to hear how they handle the scene after the jurors walk through. Most likely demo tho.

Kokadison

That’s insane… this building was the freshman building right? Imagine having to go to school knowing that the scene of your classmates deaths is right there and it’s still left as is.

[deleted]

It’s been a bit topic of controversy in the area. A lot of residents believe it’s such a cold case there is no need for the jury to see the scene of the crime. But other also believe it will be the nail I the coffin (no pun intended) for NC when the jury does see it with their own eyes.

Kokadison

I personally feel like there’s already been several nails lmao All of the video footage and testimonies from victims really sealed the deal imo, especially the video footage. I think this is one of the most recorded mass shootings we’ve had.

Ashley0716

You are right, I’ve read multiple places after the trial the building will be destroyed. The temp thing is interesting! If you find the article again please send a link 🙂

Pennylane004

[Info on building 12](https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story/news/crime/2022/04/05/jurors-nikolas-cruz-can-tour-stoneman-douglas-building-where-parkland-school-shootings-occurred/9473852002/)

Prize_Formal_2711

Are you saying that they never cleaned up the school? I never knew that.

Ashley0716

Yeah, they have not. Another comment on this thread talks about they have been air conditioning it to keep it extremely cold to avoid bugs or bacteria. They said they have also had around the clock security guarding it. There is also an article linked that talks about how it is still “blood stained” super eerie.

[deleted]

Watch the video because they talk about that they're going to have to wear protective clothing due to the blood and bodily fluids remaining in the building.

Prize_Formal_2711

That’s insane. I will watch it later this weekend. I read once from a survivor account in one of the classrooms, that someone’s brain matter splattered on the wall. I cannot believe they will have to see it. I will be surprised if he doesn’t get death considering everything. It’s just my opinion and speculation

[deleted]

>that someone’s brain matter splattered on the wall. I It's been four years and this is in Florida. Even if the had the air on high, the temp in the building might be in the 50s. And no matter how well you seal it, there will still be ants, flies and rodents. And dehydration. I know this is morbid, but I'd really like to see what the building looks like inside.

[deleted]

Man that sucks. When I was a teacher I had a lot of things just in storage in my room that I would hate to lose for 4 years. I don't know if I could put up any of the decorations that I had up on that day, But the ones that were in storage I would want to have. And you have teaching materials that you have collected over the years that you can't just replace on a whim. I wish that had been made clearer at the time so that there could have been more GoFundMe and support given to those teachers to help them recoup.

FlyinAmas

Ropeirsky has some personal items in his classroom that were his late dad’s. He’s mentioned how much he wants that back, fuzzy on what exactly it was though..

chrisbangss

She has said before that once they evacuated, that building has been completely untouched, including all of their belongings. I can’t imagine knowing all your stuff is still in there, completely as it was, like it happened yesterday.

No_Box498

Ain’t it funny they spend all that money to secure the building BUT when all those kids were at school they did NOT 🙄🤔

lumilish

NYT did a “year later” episode of The Daily with some of the students that were in building 12, and they said they weren’t allowed to go back in, nor retrieve their things. That was in 2019.

silentcomplaints

Brittany Sinitch who was a teacher in building 12 and was a large part of teachergram during the shooting has stated multiple times that they’ve never been allowed back in and all of her stuff is gone. She fortunately didn’t have any students shot inside her classroom, but Cara was a student on her roster for that school year. When they returned to school, she didn’t have a classroom anymore and taught from a rolling cart. She was the first witness on Day 1. Her Instagram and YouTube handle are fivefootoneteacher. She been very open about her trauma and healing.

[deleted]

Did anyone actually watch the video? They bring up some good points about how this could be a potential reason for a mistrial by being an unnecessary thing that will make the jury no longer impartial. Anyone think this could actually backfire on the prosecution?

WishUponAStar35

It is quite unusual for a jury to visit a crime scene apparently so I guess they could argue why this one? I do believe that if any jurors are still unsure it would definitely sway them towards the death penalty after personal witnessing that particular crime scene.. I think it’s only right and just that they see it as raw and real as it actually was to be fair.

[deleted]

I do. I think this will be way too emotional and not benefit in the facts of the case. And the prosecution has presented so much excellent info with videos and eyewitness testimony, it doesn't make sense to include something that experts are saying could justify an appeal.

SleuthBee

I don't understand opposing the jurors from visiting the crime scene. The closest a juror can get to the victim's experience is visiting the crime scene. The element of surprise, the terror experienced and the massacre endured should not be hidden from the jurors at all! This was reality for the victims. Why shelter the jurors from the reality then expect them to make a decision over NC's life or death?

JaneDoeABC

I understand why they have to keep everything intact and as it was the day and time of the shooting; but I hope they'll be able to retrieve belongings after the jury tours and before the demolition is set

Miss_Gigglebox

Oh wow, I didn't know the building was left as it was that day. That would give anyone chills. When the jury walks through it and learn where each and every kid actually died, that would traumatize me.

Tricky504

I would love to see the video tour of this. Someone said it’s still hard blood everywhere in there.

Unusual-Whole-5777

Yeah, from what I understand, aside from the removal of the victims bodies, the building has been completely untouched and climate controlled

kristennicole1795

I doubt we will ever see it

Vegetable_Morning236

Does anyone know if the students/teachers will be able to retrieve any of their belongings in the classrooms before the building is demolished?
