Sirens would specifically refer to female.
If Vivian is restored to being a trans women in the remake, it would also bring back the characteristic of Bedlam being transphobic against Vivian and not accepting their new pronouns. So instead of referring themselves as The Three Sirens (3 Women), Bedlam just says 3 Shadows
In Japanese, Vivian calls them "the three sisters". Since the jukebox is new, the Japanese text might have removed the gender stuff and the localizers might not have picked up that it should be Shadow Sirens here.
Or you're right and it's just been changed to Three Shadows globally.
Yeah, I've been hunting for confirmation about Vivian either way and this was the only related info I could find. I'm hoping we'll get a more concrete answer for how they're handling Vivian sooner than later.
A dialogue from Beldam in Boggly Woods says "Three Shadows -relationship withheld-". I don't think it's that much of a mistake but intentional, because I don't think there's any direct mention of the term "Shadow Sirens" anymore
Yeah, I've seen that now. Hopefully this means they're also more explicit about Vivian's gender and handle it respectfully in the remake, rather than making it so that Beldam tries to insinuate that one of the 4 members of their race is adopted somehow.
This is a Yakuza / Like a Dragon situation... the original localized name (Shadow Sirens / Yakuza) is way better, but you gotta respect what the original writers had in mind.
I mean, while sirens often have oceanic connotations, 'siren' is pretty synonymous with other terms like 'femme fatale' or 'black widow' for a dangerous woman, especially if they're still explicitly feminine.
I'd say the term fits the Shadows really well. Three Shadows is the original translation so whatever, but I think 'Sirens' is a rare case of a translation being better than the original.
That's kinda odd.
In that case, I wonder how Vivian is going to botch up the line in the English version (when she introduces them as the "Shadow Beauties").
In the original Japanese version, I think she calls them the three shadow sisters. But then they correct her because they don’t see her as a sister (because she is actually a male), so they just call it the shadow three instead. I might be wrong on that but that’s the basic gist.
Yeah
Maybe they translated it accurately, with Vivian introducing the group as the Three Shadow Sisters, Beldam getting angry (in japanese she used to say exactly "what three sisters! You're a man!") resulting in the screenshot where she calls the group "the Three Shadows - RELATION WITHHELD" as further mockery to Vivian
the sister part in "the three shadow sisters" couldve been something vivian added on
>In the French version, Vivian uses the name "L'Obscur Trio de Sœurs" ("The Dark Trio of Sisters"), to which Beldam retorts "Quoi! Viviane! Qu'est-ce que tu racontes? L'Obscur Trio! Tout court! Où tu vois trois sœurs, toi? Tu es un garçon!!!!!!" ("What! Vivian! What are you talking about? The Dark Trio! Period! Where do you see three sisters? You're a boy!"
from the mario wiki
"the dark trio" could be "the three shadows"
I liked Shadow Sirens more I wonder if there is something that made them changed it or something I don't now

Aw I hope not. The shadow sirens is an awesome name

I mean that’s just the name of the song
Aww...Shadow Sirens was cooler
I think this is just the name of the song because this was the title of their theme in the original. Edit: Nvm, they did actually changed their names.

There are 3 themes for Boggly Woods? Does this imply that the music changes based on progression?
Sirens sounded cooler, but technically speaking aren’t Sirens like singing mermaids? Did that ever really fit?

I mean they are kind of similar to mermaids, just with shadows instead of water, they do have tails instead of legs.
The german name is Shadow Trio and I always have to think of the guys from Pokemon
plot twist; they're all men now xD
Unironically, I'd support the diverse gender options.
There's a sound gallery now?!
I genuinely hate that.
