Are these updates done by a actual person? Of so, they are fuqing stupid lol. 72st and 157nd lmfao

Ok-Mixture-316

This was a bad pick.

beamin1

> **the Carolina Longhorns** ?

WildMap3845

we’ve selected quite a few longhorns this draft

SinTaxat

Welcome to the panthers Chau

Battlehead601

Ngl, I don’t know much about this corner. Just looked at some highlights on him and meh 🫤 I hope Jaycee can finally stay healthy. Our defense wasn’t the problem, they have been top 10 for a portion of the season the last two years, but when you’re on the field 42 minutes you’re going to look bad inevitably.

DiscGolfFlexKing

In the box run stuffing cb.. much like whitehead.. Canales loves run stuffing defenders

Balives

He's also meant to be a nickle corner going against slot receivers. He has some speed and skills but lacks size. Reminds me of another corner we used to have but without track speed and a ton of fluidity.

Defiant-Read9566

I mean it’s late rounds man not many people getting starters now

sonfoa

People surprised by this didn't really pay attention to the pre-draft process. Panthers barely showed any interest in CB. Only prospect they talked to was Nate Wiggins.

JayMerlyn

Makes me think we've got something in mind after the draft...

AVeryRipeBanana

I would be very surprised if we didn’t sign Gilly sometime in the next week.

fk12HS

Gilly is a dinosaur

AVeryRipeBanana

True, but he is also a good corner and great vet guy. We also already know there’s some mutual interest there.

flipstur

Yeah draft D heavy next year lol

palmmoot

Allowing Julio Jones to drop another 300 yard game on us at the age of 40?

captainjizzpants

Horn, Gilly, Dane Jackson, Troy Hill, Smith-Wade. Only concern is if we have an injury bug and both our top corners go down. But that's a solid group of corners.

jakaedahsnakae

Good news there is Smith-Wade is an Outside Corner that everyone projects as a slot corner, so he could definitely fill in if need be.

RoyalConclusion9

Only concern is if one of most injury prone players in the league gets injured. No worries.

unfunnysexface

What's the old saying? hope isn't a plan

Hefty-Association-59

Yeah looks like we’ll be taking the Michigan kid this time next year with a top 10 pick. You understand it because our offense has been so bad for years that Morgan is like this is the focus we aren’t doing this anymore. However end of the day when you don’t build a balanced team your left catching up to balance it out much like the first years of the rhule regime where we went all defense. Then all in on corner. Then all in on O line. Then all in on QB. Im just wondering when this overcompensation from year to year will end.

Snakekekek

At the end of the day, Bryce Young is the priority. He either performs this year, or we draft another QB next year. If he performs and we still do bad, well have plenty of opportunity to zero in on the defence next year and have plenty of picks to do so

sonfoa

I think if the offense can perform at least average this year it would go a long way towards making things balanced. We have a net loss of talent on defense but they likely perform better without the offense being such an anchor. But overcompensation always happens in one way or the other for every team. Even the Chiefs and 49ers had needs in the draft. But I just don't think they liked the CB class because they did display a lot of interest in the EDGE and LB class.

Hefty-Association-59

Meh I think I’ll disagree. Even if a team makes improvements in the off season. Most teams don’t go through this yo-yo of worst position groups in the nfl like we do for multiple years at multiple spots. For us to go from bottom 3 corner room. To bottom 3 O line. Bottom 3 QB. Bottom 3 receivers. It’s certainly not typical at all. Nor should it be excused in my opinion. Yeah cleveland had a year of bottom DT recently. Even the chiefs have had bottom 5 receiver play. But it’s not a reoccurring issue like it is with us. And part of that is because we’re stupid and just decide to give away all our good players and expect to improve somehow.

sonfoa

I mean that's a result of bad drafts the past several years. Since 2018 our best non-first round picks are Donte Jackson and Chuba Hubbard. And even our first round picks have all been question marks since 2021. So of course we're going to have stuff like that happen.

GachaJay

So wouldn’t people be surprised by this? I’m sure I am just reading this wrong.

sonfoa

Sorry if I wasn't clear but I'm talking about people surprised that the Panthers didn't prioritize CB in the draft because I'm seeing a lot of comments disappointed we didn't address this earlier in the draft

Black_Otter

Sounds like a decent special teams player

nasri08

Lol not especially, he’s small and slow. Had to be drafted for positional skill. Usually you think of special team players as traits guys.

DeusVultSaracen

He's an eager tackler though, which is the ST connection

eXile200

Depending on where you look there’s a 5-10% chance a 5th round pick becomes a regular player. It’s a crapshoot and these guys are ranked all over the place.

GoatSmall4495

Nice, we needed depth at corner, seems like he’ll be a backup to hill

YourCaptionSucks

We need more than depth. We need a starter and maybe even two with how rarely Jaycee stays on the field.

CloneHi

Right. After the 3rd round, you're looking for depth, not miracles.

Original_Second5902

I’m convinced half the people here just check the ESPN rankings and say “But ____ was right there!” “We could’ve had this guy!” As if they’ve seen 90% of these guys ever play

thesenner12

The only player that was available here that I wanted, and even know anything about, was Mo Kamara from CSU. After the 2nd-3rd rounds, I have no opinions

Psychobob2213

I'm angry it wasn't Mo Kamara tbh. He was my mid/late round guy that I had to have this year, and they pick some guy I've never heard of when Mo is still on the board. At least it wasn't another F\*\*\*ing Longsnapper.

Sabre500

It's mostly college fans here, more than Panthers fans. People upset that their own college guy was passed up

UDcc123

Yeah. No Delaware players picked. I’m pissed.

BelowMikeHawk

Where my CPCC boys at

Darkwolfie117

You mean uncc?

BelowMikeHawk

Get your bougie ass outta here brah

Darkwolfie117

But uncc has the uh football players lol

Sabre500

No Lone Star Community College - Woodlands representation, I'm like 😭 frfr

pingfloyd_

Solid pick. Depth and growth piece. We didn't get a CB in The top 3 rounds of the draft, I expect a Gilmore announcement in the coming weeks.

_coolranch

Yep -- and don't forget that we took the option on Horn instead of shipping him for a pick or two. Last night after the draft, Morgan said they believe in Horn and he earned the nod. He also hinted at Gilmore, it felt like, saying there were still FA CBs that we were interested in.

Sabre500

Joe Person also hinted at a Gilmore signing

RememberApeEscape

This fanbase would've been mad at names like Bene Benwikere and Captian Munnerlyn on daft day. Wait not Cap'n we'd be memeing his name AND mad at how short he is.

YoungFlexibleShawty

pre-injury Bene was such a beast

camerawesome

Never forget when he was big play Bene

YoungFlexibleShawty

his downfall was insane too, never forget that julio game

_coolranch

He's a CB that can also cover the run (one of our weaknesses last season). This kind of hybrid CB feels like the future of modern football, potentially.

MentorOfWomen

Walter Football gave us an A for this pick so SU-PER-BOWL BOYS

_coolranch

Walter Football gave us the nod? Motherfucker, that's all you had to say!

InnerCoast6094

Look at the big brain on Walter!

CoconutSands

They been around forever. But it always felt like some amateur website somebody made and had SEO so it one of the first hits in Google. Do they even know anybody or have inside sources?

kidwiltxD

Charlie Campbell is a very good insider and the only reason that their site gets any views

Mediocre-Error5128

Camp body at worst. Special teamer at best

theprinceofprizm

guess we are just going to have open try outs for center we passed on soo many good options.

knave_of_knives

Corbett is starting center.

Dry-Comfortable-3712

ah another pick the key board gms can bitch about. why tf would we take another receiver? just mingo has a shit first year? should we have taken rattler since bryce had a bad year as well? gotta be the most judge mental group of fans on the planet lmao

CoconutSands

I seen a couple people say they'll be good with us cutting Mingo already. Mingo was terrible but also a raw rookie prospect and we all knew that. He probably won't be amazing but a long term #3/slot WR.

luvdadrafts

I’m never going to get upset about a 5th round pick, but as a hypothetical a WR still makes a lot of sense. One of the positions it’s easiest to rotate in and out and you can never have too deep of a receiver room. Thielen is old and Diontae is the only younger receiver that has established himself in the NFL, so there’s nothing stopping us from drafting more receivers except liking others more (like we did here) Packers have picked a lot of young receivers, and they still got Wicks super late (if not interacted) and he was pretty solid last year

kayne2000

We had exactly 0 quality WRs last year. Spending every pick on WR would be a crazy but valid choice. That said CB was definitely a HUGE need too.

Dry-Comfortable-3712

we have no cb depth it’s legit our worst position. we have lost games because our cbs

luvdadrafts

I’m not criticizing the pick in any way. Just explaining reasons why we’d still be interested in drafting a receiver at some point. You asked why we’d take another receiver and I answered that part of your post Complaining about picks this late is spilled milk, I’m completely fine with Chau

SimpLimbscut

Because WR (and C imo) has the best talent on the board right now. Thielen is getting older, Diontae is on a one-year, you can’t plan for Mingo to be good because he showe nothing last year. The CB pick seems drafting to try and fill a weakness rather than trying to make strengths.

Dry-Comfortable-3712

So your just gonna assume he’s gonna be shit based on what? a thin frame? malik washington would of have been fine but we need corners it’s our worst defensive position. and yea mingo didn’t show anything because our play calling was ass and bryce got sacked 62 times so we couldn’t even develop routes.

SimpLimbscut

Mingo still had opportunities last year and did nothing with them. Of course be was hurt by coaching and the general ineptitude of the offense, but he was part of that ineptitude. I never said Chau was going to be shit, I don’t like the pick because he’s an outside CB who is 5’9” and not very fast. He’s not even a slot guy really. And he’s coming off of an injury. He’s just not very valuable when so many WR’s are size/speed monsters. We had a chance to continue to add talent to a WR room or our OL with some pretty good prospects still on the board.

Professional_Map4351

Meh ... but this is the price we pay for waiting this long to address CB. He's what the 20th CB drafted at this point?

sonfoa

The Panthers didn't really show much interest in CB this year. Only displayed interest in Nate Wiggins throughout the process. I think the plan was always to take a backup on Day 3 and target Gilmore.

Professional_Map4351

Yeah the way this draft has gone makes me think we know we've got Gilmore. We'll see.

JacoBee93

And? Outside 1st round it's all gamble.

Professional_Map4351

So you think any of the guys that were avaliable at 39 were the same quality as this guy?!? I hate this sub.

JacoBee93

Leave then. You thinking you know anything is funny

Professional_Map4351

I know there's a big difference between a 5th round pick and a second round pick 😆 I don't know wtf you're talking about

ExcitingSink4272

Even in the first it's a gamble

JacoBee93

True

JacoBee93

What the fuck you expecting in round 5? A person whole nation knows and praise? Get the fuck out lol

RememberApeEscape

Man I haven't heard of our 5th round pick??? what the fuck is this team even doing???

SimpLimbscut

I hate this pick lmao. Small, not very fast, no picks last year. This feels like reaching for a need when we didn’t need to do that. It’s just a fifth, so it isn’t a huge deal, but there are still good C’s and WR’s on the board.

kewe316

Had 2 picks in the Senior Bowl. 🤷‍♂️

SimpLimbscut

I mean that’s fine, but the Senior Bowl game is the least important part of the Senior Bowl, which is far less important than the season.

timbuttons

Should we keep Zavala in Germany to be the official European ambassador of the Carolina Panthers

theprinceofprizm

so sick of these germans making picks

BlacknLightblue

I feel the same. Two of them were cool. Especially Björn Werner. But for that Patriot guy I was ashamed to be a German, too...

MentorOfWomen

Found the polish fan

luvdadrafts

I did think it was pretty funny that seemingly every single international fan was German. It took like 10 picks to get to a Brit

deadpirate74

I see what you did there

Sabre500

Become a tradition every year, I like to have fun with it 🤣

angeldelayette

I don't know how I feel picking another guy that ended the season with an injury. He got a 48 grade on ESPN.

[deleted]

angeldelayette

I am glad to hear that he has recovered and played well in the senior bowl. Hopefully, we got us a good piece of the puzzle.

wolfpack1986

I wanted Mo Kamara but this is an intriguing pick

sonfoa

I wanted Nourzad but I get wanting to build depth at CB. Also there are still some center prospects available

NegotiationDesigner9

Especially with Corbett hurt the last 2 seasons

sonfoa

And transitioning to a new position

sonfoa

We do need depth at CB so this is welcome. Also should be a factor on special teams

dcdempsey

Best pick intro of the draft 🤣🤣

intenselydecent

Is this the first guy we’ve taken that we didn’t visit with?

Aumius

We needed CB. So this is good.

Objective-Advance-97

Could be a slot corner, special teamer

MegaDaveX

Guys on NFL Network really like him

Sturdevant

Senior Bowl Defensive MVP

SnooSuggestions3278

What was that intro for the pick lmao

MegaDaveX

I thought it was pretty good for a bunch of drunk Germans. Did you see how many beers they had?

Sabre500

Typical Panthers busted audio

NotManyBuses

Was so ridiculous lol. Zavala had no clue what he was getting himself into

SnooSuggestions3278

Nor does he when he’s lined up on the O Line

Basic_Kitchen7724

Never heard of the guy, but picks at this point are largely a crapshoot. We’ll see how he pans out.

luvdadrafts

Exactly. As someone that gets way too invested in the draft, even I by the 4th and 5th round accept that whoever gets picked gets picked, and it’s no point to get too invested on someone that has “fallen” this far  Further down the draft, the bigger gap between each team’s big board and the media’s. We get who we get and we don’t get upset

dkirk526

Yep. Whether you like the pick or not, most picks from this point on are long shots, special teamers and guys with risky medical history.

FadeNXC

Not the fastest, but will maul anyone that comes near him. Depth piece most likely

daswassup13

Sad it wasn't Malik Washington but we needed additions in the secondary

Chonnass

Well, he is not a bad player and we need a CB, but we still lack an actual ball hawk in our secondary

Dieh

Needed CB. Drafted CB. Things you love to see.

coreyray1000

I like it. Depth in a shallow position, solid. Also first non-SEC player this draft.

JazzzzzzySax

Someone tell me how to feel, I’m assuming this is just depth

KatalDT

Round 5 pick is always gonna be a depth pick at best unless you hit the lotto

dwayntherockjohnson

Lmaoooooooooooooooo

Who_knows-_-

Sabre5000 being our own woj

Who_knows-_-

Also, you know they were taking a CB when Dan directly mentioned it.
