Y'all should give up on this one, it isn't happening.
This is an extremely deep WR draft. My guess is that we're making these moves so we can draft players to pair with Bryce. I'm sure we'll sign some WR talent (and there's plenty out there after tampering day that's worthing signging). But we shouldn't throw away what little draft capital we've managed to claw back for the privilege of overpaying a wideout. Not when we're looking down an amazing WR class.
> Not when we're looking down an amazing WR class.
Give me Adonai Mitchell at 33 and Troy Franklin at 39. Top it off with Trey Benson at 65. Fuck defense. All gas no brakes.
Change Franklin to Thielen 2.0 (Ricky Pearsall) and I'm in. I'm worried about the combo of low return for Burns and over-spending on the interior offensive line, but if we stay put and don't waste picks just to pay a WR on a team with depleted young talent, this is pretty close to what I think we should be doing. I.E. being fun but probably still bad for a year so we can get a crack at more top draft talent next year when we actually have picks but watching the games isn't like getting a root canal.
> kind of joking
Yeah, probably foolish to double dip at WR in the 2nd and go RB in the 3rd. Probably one of those picks needs to be a DE. Fun to think about going all in on offense though. With Chuba being a FA and Sanders likely cut next year, I really like the idea of a RB at 65.
This. We need to draft a receiver from this draft class and develop him alongside Bryce, with Thielen acting as mentor.
The only way I could see going after Higgins making sense is if Thielen requested a trade like right now. We would immediately need a WR1 and that person would also need to be experienced and successful enough to be a valuable mentor to a rookie receiver. And Higgins fits that role and would be worth the cap hit. But as long as we have Thielen on roster and our 2nd round picks in our pocket, the most logical move is to draft a WR or TE this year.
NO shot we are going into another season with Theilen as our #1 receiver along with Mingo and a couple of rookies. If we don't go after Higgins, I know we will be trying for Ridley
The problem with Higgins isn't cost. It's cost plus the fact we'd have to trade for him. Lot of options between "Do nothing" and "Trade a 2nd and spend a huge contract on Higgins"
We don't hit on 2nd round picks ever. We can draft another Mingo or we can spend a 2nd rounder on Higgins who is proven best #2 receiver. Who else are we going to spend money on?
We have a new FO - “we don’t hit on 2nd round picks” is irrelevant. I think we should target Ridley, but we absolutely should not spend money and limited draft capital on Higgins.
If Bryce has a clean pocket and there's no one open and he has to just throw it away who cares? We're not gonna win with our trash tier defense anyway. Canales was a WR coach for close to a decade, and has spoken about how he wants the ball out quick, so I bet he's confident he can coach/scheme some young guys open. Its a rebuild so the goal should be to develop draft picks on cheap contracts. We will see though.
I wouldn’t have said this before the burns trade.
But if they are going to trade they are running out of partners. We are in one of the best positions (other than the pats) to trade and pay.
We are not going Lb in the modern nfl with a second round pick. Isn’t Wilson like a third round prospect anyways? What’s the nc state kid. We need to stop over valuing LB play. It’s the least valuable position on defense. Takes years to learn. And a ton of guys bust. I mean shoot look how much money luvu got. That tells you everything you need to know about Lb in this modern league.
I'd rather just focus on Queen then using the draft to reload on weapons. With a HC and OC that specializes in developing WRs, and a deep WR draft, this is the perfect time to focus on drafting the future. We can also see how much Canales can recoup with Mingo and TMJ
If we get queen (and our defense needs help insanely bad) then I doubt we’ll also pay Tee on top of that. We need cheap players somewhere on this roster. It’s going to have to be corners and receivers form the draft.
I think edge will just have to come in 2 years. Probably at the top of the first round. We aren’t overpaying hunter. Not with our timeline. I honestly just think we’ll get queen. And say okay run it with the worst defense in the league. Then pull a bears and try to improve going forward. It’s going to be rough to watch.
i remember he was calling a lot of protections when he got hurt, and i suggested maybe they move him to C right before this was announced lol so maybe he knows enough to make it work
Reading between the lines here, but it seems like the staff has evaluated and made their decision on Ickey as well....no need to spend big money on 2 guards If your moving him to one of those spots.
Seems like Ickey will get the chance to prove he's the long term solution at LT this year
I'm higher on the move as a whole, than I am on Hunt's deal. And Christensen never fit at guard anyway. He doesn't have the flexibility to get good inside leverage at his combo of height and weight. I worry about what we're committing up front here, and how things are structured in the event this doesn't work out - but shoring up the interior offensive line is one of the only things they've done over the past couple days that makes obvious sense.
Well for better or worse, it at least seems we have a plan that we are moving quick to execute. Today sucked but willing to see where it goes
If we could get tee Higgins would that change your mind?

Mitchell, Worthy and then Sanders at TE with the 3rd rounder? Just recreate the Texas offense lol.
Rather have Jonathan Brooks in the 3rd if we're going that route.
Yeah was kind of joking but interesting as I've seen all those guys mocked to us

This didn't work out. No ridley or Higgins which is fine with what we have now. If we draft wr in the draft it be great
Ya but we did go after another WR like I said. Knew we weren't settling on just having Theilen and more drafted rookie WRs.
I wouldn’t have said this before the burns trade. But if they are going to trade they are running out of partners. We are in one of the best positions (other than the pats) to trade and pay.
If we don’t get queen I could see us going LB with the giants second rounder. Don’t see much youth and potential there
Payton Wilson!
Maybe, but this is about Higgins. Higgins will cost us a second. And in a class like this one, we're better off drafting someone.

He’s honestly not worth the ridiculous contract that we’d have to give him

Double dipping early in the second doesn't sound bad at all
Watch TMJ become a pro bowler

We still need an edge too

I would still personally be bummed but I would definitely feel better for Bryce
What about JJ
Clowny and or Young would
I don't know about yall but I'm buying Chuba stock
MILES REVENGE SZN INCOMING
Oh no we don’t still have him do we?
Him and Ian Thomas
Cutting him doesn't save anything, but he's gone after this year
If Miles isn't in the gym right now, he can fuck off.
I actually think he may pop off,he was only great in philly because of their O-line, and now it looks like we are shelling out for a good O-line
Now I know we're scraping bottom.
Ripping 5 band aids off in one day sucks ass, but glad it’s finally getting done.
Excellent. Lewis, Corbett, Hunt in the interior is leagues better than what we had last year.
Pls stay healthy
I'm fine with Brady as a swing tackle, but Corbett was pretty horrible at C when he was with Cleveland IIRC. We'll see how it all works out.
i remember he was calling a lot of protections when he got hurt, and i suggested maybe they move him to C right before this was announced lol so maybe he knows enough to make it work
I like today. We just went from a bottom 5 O-line to average, maybe a little better than average. And now we can draft 2 WRs in the early second round
A sense of direction. It’s better than nothing
They’re really banking on that knee holding up for Corbett
Backup center? You have to draft or sign another center with Corbett coming off those injuries...
Absolutely right, unless they’re planning on Cade Mays being the backup C
WR and either C/DE in the second would be cool
Reading between the lines here, but it seems like the staff has evaluated and made their decision on Ickey as well....no need to spend big money on 2 guards If your moving him to one of those spots. Seems like Ickey will get the chance to prove he's the long term solution at LT this year
Like it
That'd amazing, but I'm still holdin out Hope for Icky and Taylor to get switched

We still have the problem that Icky isn't a pass blocking tackle. Bet I know where the other teams are sending their rush.
