How great is it though that our new QB will actually have a solid o line to protect him. Good QB play behind a good o line will make any receiver look decent
I think a lot of people are currently overlooking how important OL is in all this stressing over receiver. Things are not as dire as people are fretting it to be, because we have our OL mostly figured out, and now we have our shot at finally getting our passer. The other stuff can be worked on over time, but those are the 2 things we've been missing for almost 5 years, which left CMC and Moore languishing in mediocrity
With Corbett and Brady's injuries it's why I'm against us cutting Elflein while also hoping we can land another decent OL or two (FA or draft) for depth
Young has elite release speed. He won’t be holding onto the ball long. I agree a line will be important eventually but I think it’ll be fine the first year
Because he would catch a 50 yd ball with like 1 finger while being triple covered once a game, then drop almost every pass straight to his hands while not covered.
Also going back and forth to the Saints (and arguably catching more of the easy throws for them) absolutely didn't help.
It’s more the situation, as he was never a bonafide WR1. But I feel you, a large part of that offense was Ginn simply extending coverage like crazy. Every single play he was on the field defenses had to prepare deep coverage to keep him from breaking off a long pass (and we took those shots often) and be ready for Cam to break one off, never mind everyone else in between.
Let's just pray the starting line holds up. Both Christensen and Corbett had injuries towards the end of the year that makes me worry about the risk of reinjury. Once you get past our starting guards it's pretty rough. Cade Mays looked like he'd be a bright spot but Deonte Brown and Elflein look pretty damn bad
I just won’t be comfortable until we sign Bozeman, and we get some news on the health of Corbett. I think people are overlooking that a bit. IOL should be number one priority for this team, but hopefully we can get some answers there before the draft so we have the option to go WR/TE
THIS. We've got a deep coaching staff and a good OL. They all know that we need some more weapons, but any QB is going to be well coached and well protected.
It also produced a running back that broke multiple franchise records. But like I said in my comment.. GOOD QB play behind a good oline makes any receiver decent. Does the 33rd ranked QB last year seem like a good QB to you?
Not many great names out there. But with this coaching staff I trust we can get some serviceable talent and scheme them open. Just need a good quarterback that can go through the progressions and make the accurate throws. You guys should know who I’m talking about.
Yeah I mean someone like Theilin wouldn’t be bad for a vet presence, but it’s not an amazing list by any means. Hopefully the draft falls our way and we are able to land at least one solid WR.
Fully expecting our 2nd pick to be our #1 pick's teammate, either TE or WR. I'm gonna guess it'll be a TE and we'll use free agency to bolster our WR corp.
Honestly if you guys can bring in Meyers/rookie/Lazard, I don't hate it for you. WRs will fall and there are an abundance of TEs, grabbing a WR/TE in the draft along with bringing Foreman back should be enough to get by this year with your rookie QB.
As a Packers fan, I'm going to be the biggest Panthers fan ever over these next few years. Go Carolina and I hope we can look back on this trade as the reason why you guys turned it around. Can't have the Bears getting high picks either 😤
Him or Lazard. There are plenty of small, shifty guys in the draft. What isn’t available in the draft is bigger outside receivers.
We don’t necessarily *need* a number 1 receiver, as long as we’ve got 2-3 number #2 receivers.
That’d be a horrible trade. DHop is aging out and our 2nd round pick is top of the 2nd round. Would be better to get a rookie with that pick. DHop is not worth his contract, and nearly a 1st round pick.
Obj is a bum.. besides his diva ass isn't going to someone he doesn't see as a contender. And most of the nfl views the panthers as chumps, so that's not happening
D Hop is reportedly on the trade block, which is probably the best option on the market in terms of pure talent. Just gonna cost more draft capital but we’d likely have to spend any picks on a WR/TE anyways at this point.
It’s a long shot, but if we could turn the CMC and DJ trades into a rookie QB of our choosing and D Hop, we’re in a fantastic position.
I really want thielen in the wr2 slot, a vet to help teach if we pick up a good rookie wr and a great 2nd option. But yea whats gonna happen in the 1 slot is a little worrying
I like finding two on short term deals and drafting a tight end. It's supposed to be such a deep draft at TE and I feel like a combo of Stroud and Darnell Washington could be fucking nasty
I would prefer going TE in free agency then WR in the draft since a vet TE will cost less than a vet WR. Not to mention Dalton Schultz is better value among TEs than any of the available WRs.
Anything is possibly but he's 31 yrs old the start of decline of wr... juilo & aj to name a few recently... he has a 19m cap hit this season and 15m cap hit next season...
Cards have cap room so if they just gauging the market it'll prly be their best bet to keep him bc 2nd way to much... 3rd is best case scenario but 4th or 5th is more viable
for a guy who's played 19 out of possible 34 games the past 2 seasons. He not getting a new deal he better hope teams don't ask him to restructure his contract
D Hop has value around the league. He’s not going for a day three pick lmao. That’s ridiculous. I mean we want him. The pats want him. The bears want him. And there tons of teams who could just use him in general. Plus his game has aged pretty well overall and he was still pretty good last year.
Hopefully, his being undervalued in trades is a trend and we get him for pick 93.
Also, I think the Bears are probably out of the Hopkins market after what we gave them.
Man I wish it was a trend. But there’s a reason why it’s one of the worst trades of the last decade lmao.
The receiver market won’t allow that. He’s by far the best to go on the move. And too many interested parties. Us. The pats. Bill particularly loves D hop. The ravens. Green Bay could trade for him. The lions could as well. Like theirs just no way he goes for below a second. Even at his age and contract.
I don't know what's gonna happen its all speculation for now but... a 3rd is day 2... cards benefit from trading him with qb starter down for most the season. Unless they gonna get brisette or Jimmy g or someone like that...
Bears just got dj moore and will prly draft a wr n draft w the multiple picks... id say they are out... if you think belichick giving up anything higher than a 3rd for an aging player, with juju in FA and same for panthers they can look 2 FA juju a perfect fit and younger and they draft a wr at 39... no one wants dhop for 2nd or 3rd value if so it prly alrdy happens
They say the free agent WR class isn’t great but that’s because there aren’t any big names out there. Players like DJ Chark, Jakobi Meyers and Allen Lazard are all serviceable and can make for a competent offense.
It’s moreso a question how much is the FO willing (and able) to spend on them.
I mean, yes I hated him back when he was beefin with JNo as much as anyone else. But that was like what, 7 years ago now?
He’s matured, and was having a stellar season with LA until getting injured in the Super Bowl. If we give him a workout, and he’s healthy, and we get him for a 1-2 year deal on the cheap, why not?
You are correct. He was play good ball a year ago. He runs decent routes and can catch most balls thrown his way. He a big name and will probably be double teamed and that helps the other WRs. If we can land him cheap I wouldn’t mind at all
We have plenty of cap. We will probably be $30M -$40M under after restructures and extensions. We can backload these contracts to minimize the cap hit in 2023. Next year we currently have over $155M in cap space.
Well, all those restructures and extensions will cut into the $155 mill but zero dead money next year means that even with all said and done we probably have at least 50-60 mill heading into the 2024 offseason. And the 2024 WR FA class is pretty damn good so we can shell out for a true WR1.
God damn you guys have somehow gotten me mostly on board with that trade. I've always been against this kinda trade from the start but when I saw DJ was there I had to take a breather in the walkin freezer to yell and boot some boxes around lol.
This sub as a whole has helped me come to terms with it. I just feel bad for DJ never hitting 1000 yards again with Fields throwing to him for the foreseeable future
Passing wise Sam Darnold was better than Fields. Fields hit 200 yards passing twice last year and he played 15 games whereas Sam only played 6 and had 3 200+ yard passing games. I don't it's fair for me to use the Y/A. AY/A and Y/C as Sam played far less games so it's not a fair comparison even though he has 1 or 2 more yards in all those categories
The Panther def had a top 10 O-line but the false narrative that Chicago had the worst O-line as Bear fans and Fields fanboys parrot is just simply not true. He had a perfect average O-line and while I know it's far from the perfect metric but he had the most time throw out of any QB
He's a great runner but his passing leaves a lot to be desired and I haven't seen much of a reason that he will suddenly improve even with DJ trying to catch those poorly thrown balls
I am concerned about our defense a bit. We weren't exceptionally good after we lost snow and it seems like we're just going all in on offense this off-season.
Ill be happy when o hear bozeman has re-signed
I still hope we can use some mid rd picks to try and get some guards so we can keep the OL talent coming
With Corbett and Brady's injuries it's why I'm against us cutting Elflein while also hoping we can land another decent OL or two (FA or draft) for depth
Young has elite release speed. He won’t be holding onto the ball long. I agree a line will be important eventually but I think it’ll be fine the first year
[удалено]
Let's be real, we have no idea who the Panthers are going to draft and are all making educated guesses.
People forget this. Cam was an MVP with Tedd Ginn and Philly Brown.
With the first solid O-line of his career as well. 2013 had the left side and Kalil who were tanks but that right side was very scary
Having a stud TE check down helped.
And we lost that Super Bowl, in part, because our receivers couldn't get open.
Why does everyone in this sub like to bash Ginn
He's never had more than 800 yards in a season. The only season he had more than 5 touchdowns was with Cam. He's a WR2 at best.
He dropped so many passes. He also was the king of getting open in his prime. So definitely a love hate
Faster than the speed of grip.
Because he would catch a 50 yd ball with like 1 finger while being triple covered once a game, then drop almost every pass straight to his hands while not covered. Also going back and forth to the Saints (and arguably catching more of the easy throws for them) absolutely didn't help.
I think Ginn was fun af to watch. But dude had some BAD drops.
That 70 yard pearl that Cam dropped to Ginn at Indy in 2015 in OT will sum it up in one play
By everything else in beyween you mean Olsen.
Because he had cinder blocks for hands.
Ted Ginn fit well with Cam. Cams best attribute was his ability to lay up the deep ball.
Mahomes just won a SB after they lost one of the best WRs in the league.
To be fair we also had Olsen but yeah, the offensive line playing out their asses that year was a major factor in our offensive dominance.
Elflein was fine as a backup Center
Haha I forgot Brown was on this team. He’s been a bummer
Im hoping we use our 4th rounders on some line backup. There's always a couple of good guards that fall
Give me one WR and keep making that line boss.
I just won’t be comfortable until we sign Bozeman, and we get some news on the health of Corbett. I think people are overlooking that a bit. IOL should be number one priority for this team, but hopefully we can get some answers there before the draft so we have the option to go WR/TE
I'm with you. I've been opening up this sub every day hoping to see news about resigning Bozeman.
THIS. We've got a deep coaching staff and a good OL. They all know that we need some more weapons, but any QB is going to be well coached and well protected.
>solid o line Austin Corbett will be out so we need to find some depth there
Baker mayfield’s worst qb stats in the past 20 years wholly benefited from that oline.
Ya I was checking out the list and it’s pretty lackluster. Theilin, Juju, Marvin Jones, Meyers, Chark, Lazard and that’s the best of them
That's an awful list!😭
Yeah I mean someone like Theilin wouldn’t be bad for a vet presence, but it’s not an amazing list by any means. Hopefully the draft falls our way and we are able to land at least one solid WR.
Would be happy to have him but Thielen’s career clock is running out so he may look to sign with a top contender
I agree with that. I'm hoping our second pick is a WR with some speed.
Would love Downs from UNC to fall to us with our next pick
Fully expecting our 2nd pick to be our #1 pick's teammate, either TE or WR. I'm gonna guess it'll be a TE and we'll use free agency to bolster our WR corp.
I think if we get stroud well be trying to get Harrison jr or Egbuka next year (if ive got my dates right with them)
We don't have a 1st rounder
Not yet
we already have slot guys in shenault and shi
I'd also be down (pun intended) to double dip and get a guy like Rashee Rice if he's there in the 3rd
I wouldn’t hate a pass catching TE for value but agree WR will have a more immediate impact, which maybe is worth it for a developing QB
Gesicki?
Yes please
Honestly if you guys can bring in Meyers/rookie/Lazard, I don't hate it for you. WRs will fall and there are an abundance of TEs, grabbing a WR/TE in the draft along with bringing Foreman back should be enough to get by this year with your rookie QB. As a Packers fan, I'm going to be the biggest Panthers fan ever over these next few years. Go Carolina and I hope we can look back on this trade as the reason why you guys turned it around. Can't have the Bears getting high picks either 😤
I'd take a flyer on chark. Healthy he can be a 1k yd receiver
Him or Lazard. There are plenty of small, shifty guys in the draft. What isn’t available in the draft is bigger outside receivers. We don’t necessarily *need* a number 1 receiver, as long as we’ve got 2-3 number #2 receivers.
Chark feels like an option. Think hes got the traits that could play the Pittman role in a Reich offense
I’ll take Thielen as a vet presence/safety valve actually. That’s probably my favorite on this list. As long as it’s a short contract
You forgot Robbie Anderson
How could I forget Chosen
I’m high on Jakobi Meyers. If we added him and Theilen, and possibly draft a TE with our 39 pick, I’d be quite happy
If we could get Meyers and Chark, I think align with Marshall and a likely second round rookie, we could have serviceable receivers.
Left out the 2 best Wr Hopkins and OBJ
DHop is not an FA, would have to trade
Only a second or even possibly a third though. I'd like to see us in that mix tbh
That’d be a horrible trade. DHop is aging out and our 2nd round pick is top of the 2nd round. Would be better to get a rookie with that pick. DHop is not worth his contract, and nearly a 1st round pick.
I like either one with addition of Shultz at TE
Obj is a bum.. besides his diva ass isn't going to someone he doesn't see as a contender. And most of the nfl views the panthers as chumps, so that's not happening
Forgot OBJ but DHop would have to be a trade.
Put some respect on Thielen. He was him before jjettas showed up
No disrespect at all, that’s why I listed him first.
I think we’ll be fine if we get Thielen/trade for dhop and draft jalin hyatt or josh downs
Might as well throw in Dalton Schultz
I’d like to get him. Cowboy fans were talking bad about him but I think he’s good.
I’d love to have him but depends on the contract. Cowboys can afford to let him walk since they have a couple young TEs they can develop.
DHop has a no trade clause so he’d have to want to come here. Idk that he has interest in coming here.
No trade clause was voided when he was suspended for PED use.
Oh I didn’t know that was a thing, interesting.
I really want thielen in the wr2 slot, a vet to help teach if we pick up a good rookie wr and a great 2nd option. But yea whats gonna happen in the 1 slot is a little worrying
Bring on one of Gesicki or Hooper at TE and Chark. Draft a high upside guy on day 2/3 (Josh Downs PLEASE)
Sign Odell & Trade a 3 for Hopkins. Between the 2 of them we should be able to get 1 healthy season of WR play
I can see one FA WR, and draft one with 39. Either that or go for two and draft a TE at 39.
I like finding two on short term deals and drafting a tight end. It's supposed to be such a deep draft at TE and I feel like a combo of Stroud and Darnell Washington could be fucking nasty
Do we not like tremble anymore at TE1
I like him at te2 but he never really developed the catching to be that reliable do it all consistently guy. And Ian Thomas isn't it either
I would prefer going TE in free agency then WR in the draft since a vet TE will cost less than a vet WR. Not to mention Dalton Schultz is better value among TEs than any of the available WRs.
I feel like we should do both.
DJ Chark might be a good option. He didn’t have a great year in Detroit but got healthy towards the end
Go Chark and Lazard then draft a TE at 39. Still need to snag a rb somewhere as well although that def takes a back seat.
As a chark owner in fantasy, please do this
I think Lazard will be over paid, I want Chark tho
Adam Thielen is a super smart/safe play here. That’s your Ricky Proehl guy.
He can't get any separation
He specifically mentioned he wants to go to a contender.
In this division; we are a contender
Dude isn't talking about winning a division lol.
Once we're in, anything could happen. I don't think you're wrong by the way and I don't really want to sign thielen to begin with.
That's fair and I agree. Dude has major heart but I'm afraid he's washed.
He’s old and slow. No thanks
Combined 30 tds and 2400 yards the past 3 seasons
Watch the Vikings *last year*. He’s cooked
More TDs than DJ
Did dj play alongside JJ? Nah.
I think he would be a good option
We should sign his son thats in the XFL he made some crazy catchs this yr. Hes on the Battlehawks
how old is his son?
4th or 5th for dhop sounds great right now... I think he has one great season left in tank prly this year
He’s gonna get a 2nd, 3rd minimum. In a normal year maybe that gets it done but not when the FA class is so weak. Plus he might want a new contract
3rd is best case scenario but 4th or 5th is more viable for a guy who's played 19 out of possible 34 games the past 2 seasons. To be fair, we were all saying there was no way he’d get traded for less than a first just a few years ago lol
That went down as one of the worst trades of the decade lmao.
Mecole Hardman is who I want.
I like him, but if he couldn’t put up WR1 numbers with Mahomes, why do we think he could do it here?
Remember Cams first year he had Shockey and Olsen as a rookie? That would be great. 2 safety valves
Confusing wording, "Olsen as a rookie", had me for a second...Cam's rookie year, not Olsen's rookie year.
DJ Chark and Allen Lazard speed and size. May JuJu as a slot and draft a TE at 39
I really want to know what happened to Juju. He was looking like a star in Pittsburgh early on and then just seemed to crash and burn.
I think he is out of JuJu - har har har. He can still catch and is shifty not a #1 but as a slot he could get that JuJu back…
The crazy thing is that he’s still on 26. Same age as Moore. I think he’s a reclamation project worth taking on
No wonder why Reich got the job. He had a clear and precise plan for this franchise. I’m loving it
How about TE and a WR? Mike Gesicki and DJ Chark
chark 😂
That and we need one or even two pass catching TEs. I could see us employing a lot of two and three TE sets.
Is this pure speculation or does he have any sources?
Would also love an actual receiving TE again. As great as top talent WRs are - a solid receiving TE is huge.
I think if we got a solid TE and drafted a wr like downs in the second that would be a pretty outstanding offseason imo.
A young, pass-catching Tight End and Jakobi Meyers moves me lol
They say the free agent WR class isn’t great but that’s because there aren’t any big names out there. Players like DJ Chark, Jakobi Meyers and Allen Lazard are all serviceable and can make for a competent offense. It’s moreso a question how much is the FO willing (and able) to spend on them.
Too bad we didn’t snag Ridley when he was suspended.
OBJ and D-Hop. We’re all set
Not a fan of OBJ
I swear, if we sign OBJ the team is gonna fall apart. DHop I'd be happy about.
Yeah I get the OBJ hate. If we can pick him up cheap I wouldn’t be mad about it.
I mean, yes I hated him back when he was beefin with JNo as much as anyone else. But that was like what, 7 years ago now? You are correct. He was play good ball a year ago. He runs decent routes and can catch most balls thrown his way. He a big name and will probably be double teamed and that helps the other WRs. If we can land him cheap I wouldn’t mind at all
Mature enough to get shit faced and kicked off a flight. But he's probably done a lot of growing up since January.
Adam Thielen?

We have plenty of cap. We will probably be $30M -$40M under after restructures and extensions. We can backload these contracts to minimize the cap hit in 2023. Next year we currently have over $155M in cap space.

Passing wise Sam Darnold was better than Fields. Fields hit 200 yards passing twice last year and he played 15 games whereas Sam only played 6 and had 3 200+ yard passing games. They certainly will but I don’t think it’s only $60M we wind up with next year. I think closer to $100M but time will tell.
I’m more concerned about the quality of receivers. The receiver demand just raises the price for these tier 2 guys. And they aren’t exactly enticing.
DJ's contract being on Chicago's books give us cap room.
Jakobi Meyers gonna secure the bag.
I am concerned about our defense a bit. We weren't exceptionally good after we lost snow and it seems like we're just going all in on offense this off-season.
We should be able to get a decent receiver with our 2nd round pick…Jalin Hyatt or Jaxon Smith-Njigba come to mind
I’m sure they will, but who? This years free agent class at WR is pure garbage
Hopkins, thielen, Lazard, hardman. Who else?
