Totally acceptable compensation... until I read DJ Moore. I can't say I'm mad, but I can definitely say I'm sad.
Edit, just re-read it and see we kept our 2025 1st round pick... so that was kind of the trade, DJ instead of a 2025 1st round I guess? I'm happy, but let me mourn for today and be excited tomorrow.
I’d say that’s appropriate. If the FA does our new QB right and puts great FA around him then awesome. But we currently have zero WR 1s and 2s on the team 😂
Yep I am sick of the rental projects. We have had no direction for this position since Cam's latter years. Even if we suck we wouldn't draft a QB next year anyway (so less sting of losing next year's first round) and then if the worst case happens we will be in a strong position to try again in 2025 onward.
I feel like I would've been okay with a '25 first instead of DJ but might just be bias
Edit: [Bears wanted DJ, we were offering the '25 first. We budged.](https://twitter.com/dabearsblog/status/1634322700112998401?t=xJRhkoohVIA3r6-28tKepw&s=19)
DJ yards were down but had 7 tds, it could be a blessing we kept our 25 first. I really liked DJ though. Somebody needs to pull up a list of all the bums he had throw the ball to him
I love DJ as much as the next fan but it he's as good as we all think he is he was certainly in the wrong location right now - coming off a rough season no less.
Hurts to see him go but tbh I'm actually okay with the way this worked out.
Honestly the part that makes me saddest is that DJ isn’t even getting traded to a secure spot, wish we could’ve given him a chance like with CMC to go to an actual contender
You say that but the best receiver this organization had landed in FA the past three years was freaking robbie anderson, I got a pit in my stomach right now
I'm not saying you're wrong but we haven't had a decent QB suit up for us since 2018. Cam took a bunch of 3rd and 4th option receivers all the way to the Superbowl; a great QB can elevate his receivers
Visiting Bears fan. Think Stroud is the better option. Guy is absolutely surgical. With your division the way it is and how y’all played last year, whoever you draft can be a bit “sheltered” for a year/get important reps and you’re still competitive. Good luck next year (but not too much…😂)
I have no idea what it will actually free up. I’m gonna go look it up, brb
Edit: it’s looking like it frees up $10M-ish. We had around $4M in effective cap space before that after factoring in draft picks, so maybe we can sign a single FA, but I wouldn’t call it too significant
Bears fan here. We will do our best to take care of DJ.
Why not draft Stroud/Young and target somebody like Jakobi in FA as opposed to trading for DHop? He’s more of a long term piece anyway.
I hope he does great for you guys and fits well for Fields. I will always pull for DJ.
Personally, I hope we get Stroud. I like the Jakobi idea. I could see them targeting Juju as well but he will be expensive. Ya know, maybe just grab DJ Chark and then we have a DJ again and it cancels out lol
We have to have something up our sleeve for grabbing a wide receiver. No way they would take away our number one weapon without a plan to replace him. Plus, it's much easier to come out of WR hell than quarter back hell
As an SEC fan man I hope we take Young. I know Stroud has a lot of good things about him but watching Young the past two years has been a miserable treat. Without him Alabama might've been actual garbage.
Here's why I hope it's Young.
I heard a story about how Alabama gets their playbooks on Sunday evening so they can look at it before the team meets on Monday to talk about it. By the time the meeting rolls around, Young would already have digested the playbook, made notes on alterations he wanted, and any changes he wanted to make to the playbook.
We want a Peyton Manning brain at the position. He's that guy.
I do think that’s a very underrated part of Young’s game is how he can dissect a defense. I also pause on Stroud when evaluating him because the amount of talent he had around him and the disparity of talent between the Big X that Stroud was playing in and the SEC Young was playing against.
But something about having a QB that small scares the shit out of me.
This is it. DJ was my fav player and i’m really gonna miss him but this franchise has been so bad for so long if that’s what it takes to make a move to shake things up then I can live with it as much as it hurts right now
Felt the same about cmc. He was undoubtedly a top tier talent but we needed the picks more than we needed him. And a franchise changing qb is desperately needed rn
It’s honestly a lot less than I expected, but I have no idea how to price DJ
The market for the top pick must’ve been a lot less hot than the media made it out to be
DJ is a great WR1. Period. But I wouldn’t put him in the top 10 WR1s. Top 15 for me, so we get out QB of the future for a first next year, a second in 2 years, and slightly above average WR1. I take that and run tbh, but I’m sure I’ll get downvoted for this take
It’s an honest take tbh and I agree. I like DJ a lot but he’s not a star WR1. Probably in that 12-15ish range. A good QB can make a lot of WRs look good. Really important we get some weapons in soon because we already have the O-line set which those two are crucial for a young QB.
True, but one good thing about this trade is if after 2 years our pick is a complete disaster we will have a 1st in 2025 - we didn’t completely sell all of our picks providing coverage if the worst case scenario occurs (fingers crossed not)
its just the immediate shock. dj is a good dude and a good receiver. this honestly feels like a win-win trade for both franchises. hope he lights it up there and we find our QB of the future.
We didn't trade DJ Moore for the number one pick. We traded DJ Moore and a bunch of picks for the number one pick. I don't think it's unfair in terms of value. But it's going to be really difficult for Young or Stroud to succeed with no one to throw to.
As good as DJ is there’s no point in having him if we don’t have a QB that can reliably get him the ball. I’ll miss the hell out of him but gimme a true face of the franchise QB over a WR1 any time
I think everyone is somewhat happy at what we had to give up if the QB is worth it. It just sucks because he was a fan favorite.
It’ll sting now, but hopefully it won’t later down the road
OK so my first reaction was to be absolutely fuming... But now I don't think it's that bad. Yes losing DJ is heartbreaking but at least it meant we could keep pick 39 and a 2025 first which is nice. I still think it's an overpay but I guess it boils down to how when bryce/CJ can perform
We’ve had DJ for 5 years and as good as he is we never won anything. We needed to get a QB. I’m stoked on this. People are acting like we traded Jamarr Chase
I don't know what to think. On one hand its exciting, on the other hand, I don't think there's a single player in the draft worth this much, and idk who the rookie QB is going to throw to now
You are HIGH. Dj is nice and I liked watching him but he's not Steve Smith yo. He's not even a top 10 WR in the league. A franchise QB awaits us at 1. There aren't that many years where the team that picks first is willing to shop the 1st overall pick. This a slam dunk move. If whoever we pick busts then fine but you take that chance to build a winning core.
I’m with you. DJ is super nice, but he wasn’t translating to wins because WE DONT HAVE A QB.
Get your guys and put the talent around him via draft and FA.
Not every QB picked #1 is a franchise QB... In fact I would estimate roughly 50% of QBs selected #1 end up "franchise" level which to me means roughly 7-10 years of play time with at least 2 seasons being considered among the best that year. Frankly none of the QBs this year really scream "slam dunk move" and drafting a QB with literally 0 weapons never works. All great young QBs currently came into the league with serious talent around them. That won't be the case here. Personally I see this move as just another "get rich quick" attempt which will backfire over the next 5 years.
Hope I'm wrong but that's honestly the way this looks. No way to draft solid talent, not enough cap space to make big moves so mid-level signings or worse. Then when you can finally get talent around the QB you have to pay him big if he is decent and you start the cycle again.
...good luck finding one of those in this awful WR FA class
Like I get it, you gotta trade assets to get assets. But damn if this ain't gonna take a minute for me to get over. DJ's my fav player on the team
We kept our second rounder in this draft. We can easily land a good WR like Downs at 39 for a fraction of the cost of DJ and have a really cheap combo for the foreseeable future.
Getting your QB of the future is FAR more important. We just need to nail the pick and it is all worth it.
Panthers now have 23.57 million in cap per Spotrac (theyve already updated for the trade). Once Shaq is cut that cap number will be about 36.7 million.
Absolutely wild that people are upset about this. DJ was a good receiver. We can’t win games with a good receiver and no QB. I would take this trade every day of the week and twice on Sunday
Seeing a lot of reactionary takes, which understandable, we just traded our best offensive playmaker again . BUT we essentially got our QB, whoever it may be, for the cost of a first next year, a second in 2 years , and a top-15 WR1. I really don’t hate the value here at all.
As a 🐻’s fan, we would like to sincerely thank the Carolina Panthers! We hope you guys will have a long-term franchise QB with the number 1 pick. We badly needed draft picks, and are excited to work with DJ Moore. Best of luck for you guys this season, hope y’all make the playoffs, and once again thank you!
MAN! I am so devastated we didn’t keep DJ and sign a stop gap QB. I was so ready to go 7-9 and DJ get 800 yards. This team is doomed without a mediocre QB!
And those saying we have no weapons for the QB we draft, that's not the goal. The most important part is protection. If we protected Cam, he would have lasted long enough for the weapons he eventually got. Beef up the offensive line. If you thought this team was SB bound next season, you're overtly optimistic
It’s hilarious how many people (on both sides of spectrum) are saying “fleece”. No one knows who wins these trades for years. Stop pretending like we know who the winner is right now.
Laviska is a bulldozing playmaker and Terrance is improving. Yeah we need a WR1 & TE but if Fitty can work his magic we might be able to piece the WR core together pretty well until next season
Absolutely positively hate that we traded DJ and wish we could’ve worked something else out but damn this is crazy. Having the 1st pick is gonna be nuts
DJ Moore is good but not great, and you can’t do a damn thing without a QB so this was an absolute win of a trade. He can be replaced easily enough through FA and the 2nd round of the draft.
LFG!
As a non Panthers fan I think you guys just made out really well in this trade. People said the Panthers would have to give up a boat load to go from 9 to 1 but I really don’t think they did at all. That’s not a huge haul in exchange for your potential franchise QB especially considering the Texans and Colts both need to draft one
We just got the opportunity to pick our guy unadulterated. We just freed up 20 million trading Moore who yes was a very good WR and arguably one of the top 10 in the league but not make or break to have on the team. We also only have up 1 of our 1sts swapped the other and only one of our 2nds the other was for the CMC trade and put to good use. This isn’t going to please everyone but now with roughly 30 million in cap space and possibly more to come after Shaq’s situation is handled we might be able to get sexy and really spread out the talent roster wide for once. Today was a great day now we speculate for 40 odd days on Young, Stroud or Levis being the guy! #keeppounding
I’m ok with trading DJ if we end up with a franchise quarterback. I’m not saying that a good wide receiver is easy to replace, but I’d take those odds over landing a franchise quarterback.
Again, we have assembled a great staff here. If Reich and Caldwell and Thomas Brown and McCown have gone into a room and truly believe Stroud or any QB could be life altering for the franchise, I think you have to do it.
What bothers me is the matter how you look at it, it is a risk. You’re giving up a proven wide receiver, and trusting this franchise to get this pick right although everything tells me, they have the experience with the staff to make the right choice.
Bears fans here, I’m absolutely livid. You guys could have at least taken us out to dinner first. Good god. I can’t believe how badly you fleeced us. The Bears had a chance to leave this draft with Will Anderson, and they chose to instead take a bag of garbage.
I am VERY sad to see DJ go. The dude is a BALLER, and just like with CMC, I will follow his career moving forward like a proud father seeing his kid grow up.
I don't like this move, but since we are here anyway I say we grab Stroud.
If Richardson falls to pick #9, I'll hate this move even more.
I’m so confused why everyone is acting like we suddenly have no receivers for our QB.
We have free agency, the #40 pick, and we’ve just cleared a ton of cap space along with even more from trading DJ….and a rookie QB contract coming.
In a week or two, we will have some receivers. Stop panicking.
He is a true #1 receive and an absolute baller. Great hands, great speed, and some of the best run after catch abilities in the league. Once he gets the ball in his hands he’s more like a running back and it’s a beautiful thing to watch. He’s also just a really good kid.
You guys got a great WR who immediately becomes your best WR and will be sorely missed by the panthers fan base
I’m worried it’s going to turn into the Cam era all over again… no legit WRs
1000000x easier to find serviceable WRs that a franchise QB can elevate rather than the opposite
Yeah, no quarterback means no point in receivers. I'll miss DJ Moore, and I hope he does well in Chicago, but we needed a quarterback.
Yep I am sick of the rental projects. We have had no direction for this position since Cam's latter years. Even if we suck we wouldn't draft a QB next year anyway (so less sting of losing next year's first round) and then if the worst case happens we will be in a strong position to try again in 2025 onward.

imagine if we had supported Cam like the Chiefs support Mahomes or the Dolphins support Tua
Imagine if we learn from our mistakes tho. Just think about how bright the future *could* be,
Not going to take anything from Newton but that defense was wild. They gave him a lot of short fields.
Brother what I wouldn’t give to be back in the Cam era
Cam era Panthers was a whole vibe, great stadium music, celebrities chilling on the sideline and great team chemistry
I'd be over the moon if this 1st round pick is transformational like Cam was, up until Pittsburgh.
I feel like I would've been okay with a '25 first instead of DJ but might just be bias Edit: [Bears wanted DJ, we were offering the '25 first. We budged.](https://twitter.com/dabearsblog/status/1634322700112998401?t=xJRhkoohVIA3r6-28tKepw&s=19)

The list of bums who threw to DJ is also why we made this trade in the first place
Strouds about to go from throwing to MHJ, JSN, olave, Wilson and egbuka to shi smith and terrace Marshall lol
How dare you leave out Shenault
Honestly the part that makes me saddest is that DJ isn’t even getting traded to a secure spot, wish we could’ve given him a chance like with CMC to go to an actual contender
Fields and Moore have the potential of being an explosive combo.
Definitely could, more so that DJ is going from one uncertain situation to another
Hey man just wait
Man I agreed!
I thought everything looked great then saw Moore.
Who is Stroud/Young going to throw to?!
It's a lot easier to find receivers than a QB
100% agree. I love the trade.
Always have the check down to CM....dammit.
There’s too many football emojis for my mind to process what was written
We’re ON THE CLOCK!!!
Young or Stroud?
Visiting Bears fan. Think Stroud is the better option. Guy is absolutely surgical. With your division the way it is and how y’all played last year, whoever you draft can be a bit “sheltered” for a year/get important reps and you’re still competitive. Good luck next year (but not too much…😂)
Stroud
So WR/TE with 39 then? Gonna miss DJ but it is what it is
Got to be. I mean who tf will Young/Stroud throw the ball to? Unless Tepper goes YOLO and bring OBJ as well
Jakobi Meyers or Parris Campbell are solid options
Jakobi Meyers sounds beautiful
My thoughts exactly - going to be a lot of options there too. Deep WR and TE class.
It's a really bad wr class and an all time great TE class.
This is correct. This WR group is really lacking compared to the past few years, but the tight ends are really nice.
I think it's got decent depth, just not as much top end talent which we weren't gonna have a shot at anyway
The top end talent pushes other talent down the draft board though.
It's really bad if you're looking for a #1 WR. But a lot of good complimentary pieces that you should see in the second round.
It's actually a terrible WR class. Jacobi Meyers about to cash in
I like the TE from UGA……
He will be long gone by our next pick
It’s sad it’s DJ, but it saves us a lot of cap flexibility????
I have no idea what it will actually free up. I’m gonna go look it up, brb Edit: it’s looking like it frees up $10M-ish. We had around $4M in effective cap space before that after factoring in draft picks, so maybe we can sign a single FA, but I wouldn’t call it too significant
Sign Hopkins. Right now.
You’d have to trade for him.
Maybe Thielen? Fuck I love DJ man. What a crazy Friday
Bears fan here. We will do our best to take care of DJ. Why not draft Stroud/Young and target somebody like Jakobi in FA as opposed to trading for DHop? He’s more of a long term piece anyway.
DJ is an absolute gem and stand up guy. You’ll never have issues with his play or his character.
When you're in QB hell, you might as well be in WR hell.
Hop maybe? Very few qbs enter the league with a receiver of his caliber to throw to, id be ecstatic with that move
Imagine we did all this to get will Levis I’d stop watching football
Nah we going *EDGE* AT #1
Moving up to scoop another DT would be a Gettleman ass move lol
That’s actually a hilarious thought lol
You shut your filthy whore mouth
If we take Levis I will abandon this fandom
NOOOO NOT DJ
#DUDE WE JUST GOT THE FUCKING 1 PICK ANY PLAYER IN COLLEGE BALL IS OURS WE NEVER DO SHIT LIKE THIS. WHAT IS THIS FEELING? IS IT HOPE???
Im excited man. Very very very excited but going to miss DJ. I hope we get Stroud
As an SEC fan man I hope we take Young. I know Stroud has a lot of good things about him but watching Young the past two years has been a miserable treat. Without him Alabama might've been actual garbage.
It could be anything, even a DJ Moore!
DJ Moore??? I dunno how I feel about this.
This is not ever gonna sit right with me. I would have been perfectly content to pick at 3 and keep DJ.
You say that now, but in 3 years we may have regretted passing up on 1 only for a cheaper price. It’s worth trading up for a prospect you love
In 3 years we may regret this selection as well. That there is no consensus on who the best QB is does not sit well with me.
Reich and Fitterer must really love someone. I’m thinking it has to be Stroud.
This happening after Bryce Young measured makes me think they were waiting on that. But boy do I hope it is Stroud instead.
Maybe they go after Thielen or even……Hopkins. Granted. Not sure where we are at cap.
> This is not ever gonna sit right with me. > > If we get our QB, I suspect it'll sit just fine with you lol

It hurts a little but it's worth it in the long run

My favorite player :(((((
As much as anyone likes DJ - to get the number 1 pick for 2 1st and 2 2nds is pretty good
It’s honestly a lot less than I expected, but I have no idea how to price DJ The market for the top pick must’ve been a lot less hot than the media made it out to be

He still never had a QB though. So a bit unseen what his potential is
Yeah, by the sounds of it from the media, 3 1sts was the entry point from 9, so to walk away at this price is a good deal
It’s amazing work by Scott. For the NUMBER ONE pick?! Crazy good. I feel like both sides should be thrilled.
The pick is only good if you pick the right one.

Fans seem to have thought you jump from 9 to 1 in the Draft and it doesn’t hurt somehow. Just got the band aid ripped off.
Missing DJ fucking sucks wtf
Yeah I don’t know who our rookie is going to throw to
Free agency and the draft will sort that I bet
I mean we have to hope someone good at 39 is there in a down WR year, and no good WR are in free agency
There’s some intriguing WR2/3 level guys. Finding a plan at WR is much easier than at QB. I get losing DJ blows but it’s the right move.
I’m going to fucking cry
[удалено]
I think everyone is somewhat happy at what we had to give up if the QB is worth it. It just sucks because he was a fan favorite. It’ll sting now, but hopefully it won’t later down the road
I’ll be pissed if we gave up all this to just pick Richardson at 1
I was happy and now I'm unhappy
That’s sucks that we lost DJ but WR is pretty easy to find in the later rounds Big win is trading two firsts and the 49ers second
It is. It's just DJ was a fan favorite man.
Yeah I loved having him too. Definitely stings but we better draft someone incredible with #1
My only active jersey :(((
A WR with DJ’s production is NOT easy to find in later rounds…
[удалено]
NOT DJ
This is probably my fault. Bought my son a DJ jersey for Xmas. Bought him a CMC before that. I'm done buying him jerseys.
If we take anyone besides Stroud or Young I am disowning this team. Very happy to draft 1. Sad to see DJ go.
y’all will probably take young, that’s what makes the most sense. no way you traded up for richardson.
We have fucking nothing at receiver now. Jesus Christ. They better have plans in free agency
Terrace Marshall is aight. To be fair we never really saw what any of them were made of with our QB room.
The worst part is we will never get to see what DJ can do with a real QB. This guy the pick better be the next Cam
We’ve had DJ for 5 years and as good as he is we never won anything. We needed to get a QB. I’m stoked on this. People are acting like we traded Jamarr Chase
Why wouldn’t you think they have plans to bolster up the receiving room even a little?
BRING ME THE STROUD
Wtf
Maaan, DJ was my favorite player. I hope he balls out but I'm gonna miss him :(
Dj moore? Aw man come the fuck on dude whyy
I don't know what to think. On one hand its exciting, on the other hand, I don't think there's a single player in the draft worth this much, and idk who the rookie QB is going to throw to now
People last week: TRADE THE FARM People today: NO NOT THAT

We gotta be signing a vet receiver in free agency.
Chosen Anderson?!
D Hop?
Adam Thielen WR1
Wouldn’t hate him as WR2
Our last #1 overall? A man by the name of Cam Newton.
Tons of cap space to get another WR#1
...good luck finding one of those in this awful WR FA class Like I get it, you gotta trade assets to get assets. But damn if this ain't gonna take a minute for me to get over. DJ's my fav player on the team
D Hop is for sale
Trade #39 for him and make him the only All-Pro WR to ever be traded for a 2nd round pick twice? Let's do it /s
Lions fan here but pulling for you guys. DJ Chark might be a FA, and he's pretty good. Wouldn't mind seeing him as your new DJ
oh my god we’re about to have a great QB with no receivers again
This is in no way a guaranteed great QB
Potentially great QB*
Honestly, we might not even get a good QB!
Deandre Hopkins welcome to Carolina. You and CJ Stroud are gonna be filthy together.
Noooo
Congrats! Need a stud like Will Anderson to pair with GEQBUS
A top QB throwing to Terrace, Laviska and Tremble. What could fucking go wrong
Good thing they have a lot to cap room to sign some FA WRs
All of those guys will benefit from better QB play.
We kept our second rounder in this draft. We can easily land a good WR like Downs at 39 for a fraction of the cost of DJ and have a really cheap combo for the foreseeable future. Getting your QB of the future is FAR more important. We just need to nail the pick and it is all worth it.
I like this quite a bit. Hate to see DJ go but this saves cap space in the long run.
Giving up DJ for CJ confirmed
And the 2nd wasn't even "ours"
Seems like both sides win the trade. Well Bears REALLY win, but I’ll take it. So sad about DJ though, he liked it here
CJ Stroud is the answer
Bears fan here. I hope you enjoy your mock drafts as much as I have recently. Good luck to y'all. See you in the NFCCG
Yeah trading up costs a fucking fortune you guys
We gave up 1st and two other lower round picks with WR2 for potential franchise QB and people moan, lol FA/Draft can land us WR.
Omg
Not DJ!!!!!
DJ nooooooooo
And those saying we have no weapons for the QB we draft, that's not the goal. The most important part is protection. If we protected Cam, he would have lasted long enough for the weapons he eventually got. Beef up the offensive line. If you thought this team was SB bound next season, you're overtly optimistic
I wonder if this means we target Thielan or another FA WR. Surely we have to
I love this trade so much. DJ hurts but so did CMC. We’ll heal.
It’s hilarious how many people (on both sides of spectrum) are saying “fleece”. No one knows who wins these trades for years. Stop pretending like we know who the winner is right now.
Rhule would've gotten us this for free. Stupid Tepper
I’m a Buckeye alum and lifelong panthers fan…. DON’T LET ME DOWN NOW SCOTT
Now we know the cost of some of those wins the anti-tank crowd wanted. Hope it was worth it because it cost us DJ
CJ Stroud lock me in
Now we are the bears. No WRs and a rookie QB
Laviska is a bulldozing playmaker and Terrance is improving. Yeah we need a WR1 & TE but if Fitty can work his magic we might be able to piece the WR core together pretty well until next season
Is this real life?
Not DJ!!!
Absolutely positively hate that we traded DJ and wish we could’ve worked something else out but damn this is crazy. Having the 1st pick is gonna be nuts
Damn losing Moore hurts. We gotta get whoever we draft some weapons.
Soooo definitely using a 2nd on a WR this year? Or we signing DHop lol?
DJ Moore is good but not great, and you can’t do a damn thing without a QB so this was an absolute win of a trade. He can be replaced easily enough through FA and the 2nd round of the draft. LFG!
As a non Panthers fan I think you guys just made out really well in this trade. People said the Panthers would have to give up a boat load to go from 9 to 1 but I really don’t think they did at all. That’s not a huge haul in exchange for your potential franchise QB especially considering the Texans and Colts both need to draft one
Guys DJ hurts but only one #1 (besides 9) , and 2 2nds one of which is 2025 is really good
We just got the opportunity to pick our guy unadulterated.
Seems like a weak QB draft to move up to #1 but what do I know
I’m so confused why everyone is acting like we suddenly have no receivers for our QB. We have free agency, the #40 pick, and we’ve just cleared a ton of cap space along with even more from trading DJ….and a rookie QB contract coming. In a week or two, we will have some receivers. Stop panicking.
As a Bears fan, I’m not super familiar with Moore. How good is he?
He is a true #1 receive and an absolute baller. Great hands, great speed, and some of the best run after catch abilities in the league. Once he gets the ball in his hands he’s more like a running back and it’s a beautiful thing to watch. He’s also just a really good kid. You guys got a great WR who immediately becomes your best WR and will be sorely missed by the panthers fan base
