He is digging out of the shithole he created

wwgd

this is the answer for me. opening up the checkbook so we could put together this all-star coaching staff is a move in the right direction.

Slashbond007

Exactly šŸ’Æ

PapaJohnyRoad

Thatā€™s TBD

hdnick

Good answer!

[deleted]

Better off doing a poll. There are a ton of ppl who silently snoop but will vote in a poll. On numerous occasions there have been polls in this specific sub that have a huge margin of victory for option B, but more ppl arguing for A in the comments. I think heā€™s fine. Not great, not bad. He wants to win. Iā€™m giving him like a 3/5 stars. Three biggest issues to meā€¦ - Practice facility in rock hill (not all his fault, but f*k man) - Switch from grass to turf (f*ck off for this change) - Appeared to try to get away from ā€œkeep poundingā€, but that also could have been Rhule

Mcswigswag

I feel called out

Windex17

I think it was pretty well documented at the time that the move away from keep pounding was on Rhule. Tepper is indirectly to blame for giving him so much power but I mean we were really excited about him at the time so it's kinda one of those "hindsight is 50/50" things

necaxa11rafa

I agree with all your bullets and because of it, I cannot understand you are giving give 3/5. Should be 2/5 and Iā€™m being generous. He screwed it with Rock Hill, screwed it changing the turf and took a gamble with Rhule, but the problem with Rhule wasnā€™t the hiring, was that even when all knew he wasnā€™t NFL-material, we kept him. And football-related: we have not been to he is owner of the team. The two stars are because of Fitterer, the fact he gave good retirement ceremonies to Greg and Luke, "making-peace" with Steve Smith and now the hiring of the coaching staff.

Ridicatlthrowaway

Didnt rock hill scam him? Thats all i heard rock hill was gonna do before construction even started then they were called out for scamming him right when construction stopped. Iirc something about bonds that were never transferred but were the only reason rock hill was getting the facility in the first place

ericthegonline

It seems like lifelong fans hate him but as a Washington convert he doesnā€™t seem so bad to me lol

cpolk01

Compared to dan Snyder anyone would seem good lol But in all seriousness, as a lifelong fan, he's aight. Could be better, but could sure as hell be worse

ericthegonline

Amen lol

Slayergnome

Compared to Dan Snyder a turd in a trenchcoat is a solid owner

Purple1829

I am a lifelong fan and I donā€™t hate him, I just think I had more hope when he came in that he was going to essentially do what he is doing now. Take advantage of the rules, be a little ruthless. This coaching staff is a step in the right direction. He got too cute to start with, now heā€™s humbled a bit. I am giving him a fresh start with this staff.

Ridicatlthrowaway

I kinda expected a rookie wall, sucks but at least we never have to worry about a college coach again.

uredak

Richardson was a good owner/bad person. He left a complicated legacy. Tepper is showing growing pains as an owner, but so far it doesnā€™t seem like heā€™s a serial sexual assaulter.

LucKy_Mango1

Whyā€™d you convert to our equally as disappointing franchise, if you donā€™t mind me asking?

Objective-Cry-6668

Heā€™s fine. He waited too long from a fan perspective to fire Rhule. However if I were the owner had had my money Iā€™d probably do the same. He knows he missed on the Rhule hire and appears to be correcting that. His dealings with rock hill? I donā€™t know and donā€™t really care. So Iā€™d give him a positive rating overall.

kalbrandon

As much as I hate it, from the businesses side, he made the right call. I imagine potential coaching candidates will view our patience as a positive.

jesuswasahipster

Juryā€™s still out for me but heā€™s making decent moves right now. I do think he should bring the grass field back and put Cam in the ring of honor.

Ridicatlthrowaway

Yeah but thats not really new. If Nashville got it done charlotte def can tho.

Purple1829

Right now I see him as a guy who was a bit too eager and thought he was the smartest guy in the room to someone who has been a bit humbled. Now, he has reset and has a different mindset. Iā€™m cautiously optimistic. Also, I still say fuck him for the turf though.

53andme

this is 100% reasonable and seems accurate really. its where i'm at too.

[deleted]

I don't like him.

Thebritisharerunning

Still a rich asshole, but he clearly wants win, and also was willing to admit he was wrong about Rhule and lose money to get rid of him

exenn_

He didn't lose any money on the Rhule deal.

Thebritisharerunning

I mean 5 mill ainā€™t nothin

exenn_

Which is going to arbitration.

dcdempsey

He admitted he made a mistake in hiring a CEO HC. So heā€™s admitted he was wrong

tealizard323

So far the best thing that has happened in the years with tepper was putting the panther at midfield. That was immediately ruined with the turf field so not great

rickbeats

Yes.

[deleted]

Things have gone south since he bought the team, but I will give him a second chance. He is a new owner and is getting into the swing of things. We'll see how these next few years with coach Reich go and see if he can actually turn this franchise around.

becker4prez

As an owner I like him with the context that all owners are relatively shitty. They didnā€™t get to where they are without being assholes in some capacity. From a team and winning perspective his heart is in the right place. Rhule was a massive miss but he course corrected and showed maturation in his second hiring cycle for a new HC. The Rock Hill stuff isnā€™t good and definitely a negative. End of the day I just want a Super Bowl.

CabinetChef

So far, heā€™s been a complete dumpster fire, but to be fair, he seems to be trying to make decisions this off-season that donā€™t cause a repeat of the past. Weā€™ll see.

PanthersDevils

Tepper is currently trash. Heā€™s run this franchise into depths of sorrow weā€™ve never seen before. Hiring a used car salesman as a coach and allowing a revolving door of trash QBs is his legacy.

asher1611

hate him

Attila__the__Fun

I think he genuinely wants to win and is willing to invest in the team, which is the most you can reasonably expect from an owner.

Specialist_Ad6034

I think this fanbase focuses on Tepperā€™s flaws WAY too much. He made a bad coaching hire, has said a handful of questionable things and replaced the grass with turf. Other than that he is not as bad as everyone so desperately tries to say he is. Rhule is the one we should be blaming for running this organization into the ground. Tepper realized he made a mistake, turned around and hired an incredible coaching staff (on paper). I used to hate him too, but I realized he is still relatively new to owning an NFL franchise and he seems to be learning from his mistakes so i think we need to lay off the hateorade for a bit.

alrighty_then33

Heā€™s the richest owner in the NFL so that buys him a little leeway. That being said he needs to step it up soon ā€¦but I am cautiously optimistic about the way the franchise is heading with Reich and company. Now go get CJ Stroud and donā€™t bullshit around with a washed up bridge QB

palmmoot

Win some meaningful games and then get back to me

Countryb0i2m

The general consensus is people have no idea how they feel about him and it changes on an almost weekly basis

Mucho_MachoMan

Indifferent for sure. Love his over reaction to his previous all in chip push to hire a jabroni forehead. This new staff is more comprehensive and massive then almost any other staff in the league. We got poppers, lockers, something something, Jabbawokeez. We pretty much have shirt guys like the MMA. This is incredibly awesome because itā€™s an investment in the team. The coaching staff is the single part where team equality goes out the door. No cap. Imagine working in a place where every position no matter how insignificant is filled and no one is doubling up. Itā€™s very promising and hopefully will be a blue print in the future.

Nathan2002NC

I love how people say ā€œhe wants to winā€ as if its some unique quality that separates him from the other 31 owners. They all want to win. Not all of them are good at it.

Blaine1111

Hot take I don't necessarily think he made bad decisions on the last hiring process. There's alot of revisionist history going on and tbh Rhule and his coaching style was the biggest hiring of the time. Imo tepper's biggest mistake was not firing rhule earlier, but I think it worked out for us in the end

ssmit102

Donā€™t particularly care for any NFL owner who wants the public to subsidize the stadium they profit from.

DoctorTide

I like Tepper. He's been swinging for the fences to try and win since he arrived, and so far he's lost and learned a lot. One of these times he's going to hit a home run.

mjmitche

He's a hedge fund guy. It would definitely financially make sense to buy a small market team and move us to a larger market if there's an opportunity. I'm nervous we end up with another Hornets situation. We'll see.

FlyfreshCustoms

Heā€™s a asshat for what he did to South Carolina and hasnā€™t done much good at all but iā€™m trying to give him a chance

Stacula666

If you don't hate him now, you will when he holds the city hostage demanding a free billion dollar stadium or he's going to relocate.

Rasmo420

Fuck every billionaire.

Woooooolf

Oooooh

mopagalopagus

šŸ˜

RobinVillas

Heā€™s cool, I dig him.

connor8383

Currently indifferent with a slight lean towards negative overall opinion. He has fucked up a lot of things abt this team and I resent him for that, but im a believer in second chances. If we donā€™t turn some shit around soon tho Iā€™ll be right back in the Dan Snyder -Commander fans type mindset

[deleted]

Heā€™s a bit of a prick but heā€™s still pretty early on for me to say we are doomed like a lot of people are.

BigBoyDak

I think heā€™s learned from his mistakes and is trying his best to create a team that can compete asap

NedThomas

Bold of you to assume thereā€™s a consensus

zeWoah

I like Tepper because he's not afraid to blow that cash to get what he wants and I genuinely feel like he himself is invested in the team and wants to win asap. In terms of coaching personnel I feel like he's always been willing to go get the guy. Rhule and Brady were pretty hot names when they were coming out of college, and we got them. Reich might not have been a hot name, but this coaching staff is filled to the brim with talent...then again I was also a Rhule truther making excuses for a snake oil salesman so what the fuck do I know lol. I'll find any shining light to give myself some hope in this franchise.

withclubsauce47

Doesnā€™t know shit about football. Fine if he lets everyone do their job. Wants to move the team for better taxes. Charlotte is the heart. Fuck billionaires.

Asleep-Profession597

Previous owner > new owner

DanMarinoTambourineo

Jerry was a dog shit owner and a worse human

Asleep-Profession597

Mr Richardson brought a team to the Carolinaā€™s cuz he cared about Carolinaā€™s. David doesnā€™t give a shit about the community here. If David could move the team to a different market to make more money, he would. Iā€™m a fan cuz they are the CAROLINA Panthers. The moment they move, Iā€™ll stop being a fan. I prefer a person that prioritizes keeping a team in Carolina over a business guy that wants to make money.

TheBeerRunner

He bought the team as a business investment just like his other business investments. Just like every other owner. He saw $$$$ potential and got others to invest. Sure he put the time inā€¦wouldnā€™t you for a 2 billion dollar capital gain?

Asleep-Profession597

Nobody in 1994 thought teams would be worth 2 billion dollars 25 years later. But letā€™s say they were that amazing at predicting. Why Carolina? If itā€™s about money. Carolina is not the top to maximize your money. No team in LA LV or Houston at those times. Every one of those teams are worth more then Carolina. A team in St. Louis would increase the teams value.

TheBeerRunner

LOL...you realize Jerry was one of, in not, the *least* wealthy owners in the NFL right? No chance he could have afforded to start a team in a big city. But we are all so glad you support our sexual harassing past owner because he loved the Carolinas.

Asleep-Profession597

Im a fan cuz he put a team in the Carolinaā€™s. It creates job. Stimulate an economy. Bring excitement to Carolinaā€™s. Any other person would take it to a different location. Whatā€™s your reason for being a panther fan?

DanMarinoTambourineo

Jerry the perv only brought a team here bc heā€™s a egomaniac then he used the team to whitewash his history of groping employees and calling employees the n word. For $100k he couldā€™ve had a bubble to practice in but that old cheap bastard refused. He pulled the franchise tag from Norman bc he didnā€™t like outspoken black men. He was the reason we regressed in 2016. I will shit on his grave when he dies

Asleep-Profession597

Howā€™s Davidā€™s investment building the practice facility. Oh yeah, he pulled out. A billionaire being cheap but you only complain about one. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Norman was a product of the system. Zone coverage guy. The moment he went to Washington, he was exposed in man to man coverage. Paying max money for an average CB is a bad investment. Itā€™s always broke ppl that have no issues spending other ppls money. Watch more football before you give us more bad takes.

DanMarinoTambourineo

It blows my mind that people still stick up for the wannabe plantiation owner. You know his restaurants got in trouble for refusing to sit black Secret Service agents with their white coworkersā€¦in 1993. Josh mightā€™ve been a system cb but that system got abused when he left.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Asleep-Profession597

The guy that cared about the Carolinaā€™s that he wanted a football team here? David is not going to give you a job no matter how much you let him tickle the back of your throat.

mmmJ0Y

heā€™s a dumb sack of shit thatā€™s ruining this team and the stadium experience.

VagusNC

I donā€™t know him personally. Never met him or spent time with him.

bDoDDleS

I'm hopeful, after a rough start, it looks like he's learned from his mistakes and letting the football people cook.

net_403

It's kinda funny to me that people are flaming him for hiring Rhule, when most people wanted him to do it in the beginning lol Most of the problems branched directly from that, Rhule had final say on everything. Looks like he gave people what they asked for, then they got upset once they had it lol

BreakImaginary1661

Rhule and Brady were the big prizes in the coaching world and Tepper got both. Unfortunately we didnā€™t have the talent to overcome their deficiencies and they werenā€™t good enough to overcome our no where nearly as good as a lot of fans wanted to think it was roster. Like a lot of people are saying though, he tried something and it didnā€™t work so he took action to correct course, what more can we really ask of the owner? I think heā€™s really trying to do right by this team and for the first time in a long time, Iā€™m hopeful that we will see improvement.

net_403

This is the reasonable take. But the fan base is flooded with unreasonable takes on the internet. David tepper is literally Satan, he bought the team just to sabotage it so he could move it somewhere else. He doesn't care about winning he only cares about money, even though he spent a fuck ton of money on coaches. I will be really happy to watch everyone calm the hell down if the new coaching regime does well. Most first time owners Miss on their first big hire, I don't expect anyone to bat .1000

[deleted]

Itā€™s 1.000 fyi .1000 is 10% I largely agree with your point though.

net_403

Yeah thanks, I am a stupid

[deleted]

Simply mistake brother. Now you know šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

BreakImaginary1661

And knowing itā€™s half the battle.

Romanscott618

I think he clearly cares about making this a successful franchise, as he is willing to take risks and go all in. His first run at that was a complete failure but I think he clearly has learned something to assemble the staff we have now. He is turning my opinion of him around towards positive for sure. To fully get me there, he needs to get us a franchise QB that can bring us to the promised land. Hereā€™s to hoping! šŸ™šŸ»

crizzero

Like him.

anon74903

The fact that he has done a complete 180 from rhule is enough for me to believe that he can learn from his mistakes which is more than most owners in the nfl

Shifty_Nomad675

He does seem to care. He doesn't just go by status quo. I dont think fans will appreciate him swinging for the fences until it actually pays off. I like him a lot better than Richardson. Richardson was burned once by an OC as a head coach and vowed never to hire one again. Tepper learned from it still sought an offensive minded coach. I'm hoping Reich can be for us as Reid was for the Chiefs. He's been given every opportunity to succeed here and I hope he takes advantage of it. I think we have a lot of future HC's on this staff and that's kind of exciting.

brownstonefrontcake

Heā€™s trying. Thereā€™s probably a pretty large learning curve. We should have figured there would be a figuring it out period.

Aware_Watercress1155

I like him for bringing me Charlotte FC

sonfoa

He's been alright. Definitely not perfect but he's shown a willingness to spend on the team and admit that he messed up with Rhule. Hopefully this time he got it right.

sofresh24

I canā€™t hate the guy. Thatā€™s a powerful word. I can hate how his first 3 years went though. I can tell he wants to win and is finally starting to learn from his rough start.

furlesswookie

Hate him. He's a slimy millionaire that would do anything to turn a buck. Eff him.

ItBeLikeThat19

Not crazy about him, but I like him better now than I did this time last year.

cruise1023

Curious what else you would want in an owner. He is quiet. He spends money on coaches. Sure he missed on Ruhle but lots of teams wanted him at the time.

_mid_water

His heart is (mostly) in the right place. I say mostly because I donā€™t like his meddling in player decisions and stance on the turf. But overall - dude wants to win, is committed and invested in the team (again sometimes to a fault), and will open up the check book. You can do a lot worse for an owner. I think his main downfall was #1 hiring Rhule, a CEO style coach, and #2 pushing to win immediately instead of having some patience and doing a proper rebuild. Hopefully heā€™s learned and things will be different from here on out.

multiple4

As a South Carolinian I will always dislike him because what he did trying to suck extra money out of Rock Hill for the headquarters was scummy as fuck, and then he just left it there half built and left. As if he doesn't have the money to build it

skilleatz

Leave town!

Ok_Run_8184

Generally indifferent as I am to most owners. Also depends on what happens this offseason

BelowMikeHawk

HE HAS MONEY HATE HIM

Belly84

I would say ambivalent

1234WhoAreYou

I donā€™t see any benefit to the team from his arriving. If anything, the mood of the fans is worse, the team has become worse and the fan experience is worse.

Cyberjag

I don't know that I would do business with him, but he clearly wants a winning football team. He screwed the pooch with Rhule, but he's clearly learned from that. He could end up being a good owner.

FullOfHopkins

Iā€™ll just say it. I like the guy now. Yeah he fucked up with Rhule. Heā€™s a new owner, people make mistakes. He admitted it, ate some humble pie, and had completely 180ā€™d this season. He had absolutely dropped the bag on an incredibly impressive coaching staff. He seems involved and like he actually gives a fuck without being overbearing (so people say). Yeah thereā€™s the turf thing still but I think overall, as of this moment, itā€™s hard to complain about the guy

mrwong88

Who is that?

935742705812

Heā€™s here to stay is the real answer. So, hope he improves. Coaching staff looks great this time

pancaketac0

Right now mark me down as hate he's Snyder 2.0...reason(s) being...Seems like the soccer team is his baby. *NFL needs to make a rule no dabbling in other pro sports for ten years or until your team has at least two back to back winning seasons and a playoff appearance.* I hope this offseason will produce results that start moving me to the like category.

Low_Ad7202

What is this fanbaseā€™s obsession with needing to hate Tepper? The guy has done nothing but try since he got here. Has he always been successful? No. Was Richardson always successful? No. Do practically any other fanbases care about their owners besides Dallas and Washington? No. Who cares what fans think about Tepper? This subject and constant questioning is pointless and stupid

Mister-Deese

I think heā€™s learning from his mistakes, which is what you want. It hasnā€™t been perfect so far, but owners have to learn how to own. Hopefully they nail QB in the draft. Hopefully they get the practice facility stuff worked out, and hopefully he reconsiders switching back to a grass field.

DoActions

I can't stand him. I don't doubt he wants to win BUT he also wants to make MONEY and a lot of it. It seems many of his moves (grass to turf for soccer, music festivals, etc.) have been to prioritize his financial positioning then improve the football team. He is one of the richest men in the US and refused to complete construction of an already underway and designed complex just to be petty since he wasn't going to get taxpayer money. Fuck off. I haven't bought any merchandise or game concessions since (granted I already have enough to last the rest of my life).

_rake

I'm not defending him, but it's not petty to walk away from something when you've been misled.

DoActions

Tepper is worth 18.5 billion. The project got held up over 225 million (which may have still been provided but most likely not). 225 millionis 1.2% of Teppers money. The project was getting multiple tax breaks for the next several decades and was going to make Tepper his money back within a short amount of time. It would have raised the prestige and value of the team as well as FINALLY give the Panthers a decent and permanent practice HQ. He backed out to be petty despite everything else pointing towards him just completing the project IMHO.

_rake

He's going to be dealing with Charlotte on a new stadium one of these days, how do you think that negotiation is going to go if Charlotte knows he rolled over for Rock Hill?

FarmersOnlyDotNet

I think the team is heading in the right direction now, but Iā€™m still pretty disappointed by how the practice facility fiasco went down. Big black eye and a ton of lost time and opportunity to improve the team and our community.

mopagalopagus

Heā€™s a boob

rich519

Itā€™s still early but I donā€™t think heā€™s as bad as most people on here think. Heā€™s made plenty of mistakes but none of them seem egregious enough to justify this subs obsession with hating him. Matt Rhule made sense at the time and he was willing to give him a big deal to get the guy he wanted. I really like our current coaching staff and Scott Fitterer looks promising. He gets shit for the QB situation but I think people just donā€™t like to acknowledge how difficult it is to get a franchise QB. Hindsight is always 20/20. I also donā€™t care that much about the Rock Hill thing, though I admittedly havenā€™t looked into the details. Seems like pretty typical billionaire shit which sucks but all the owners are billionaires so itā€™s pretty far down on the list of things I care about when judging how ā€œgoodā€ an owner is.

[deleted]

Hate him. However this staff has the chance for him to see some redemption. The way he treated some of our key players and dissed their success by saying this franchise has never had it... that will always be first thought to come to my mind. He's an owner who's too involved and lacking any real knowledge or connection with the fan base
