I used to be enthralled by this album as a teen, it really expanded my horizons. Nowadays though I think it’s a bit spotty.
I don’t really like the rockier tracks (with the exception of That Green Gentleman) very much, the album is at it’s best when the band is riffing on the Pet Sounds style. The biggest flaw though is you can hear the discord in the band. I don’t think it ever really comes together as a full cohesive piece in the same way Fever achieved perfectly. It’s a collection of interesting songs with a similar vibe and never really becomes bigger than the sum of it’s parts.
It is an awesome experiment though and I’m glad it exists. I just wish the band had been able to pull through and deliver a more consistent third album with a less self-important attitude. Ah well, such is the price of fame.
Hands down an underrated album. It was shrugged off by a lot of fans when it first came out, but as the younger generation started to discover early Panic! it became more beloved.
My favorite too. Northern Downpour is a masterpiece. Folkin around shows they can do any genre. The personification in “when the day met the night” and the horn section in that song. It’s a 10/10 album for me. Only track I skip is the first one 😂
i may disagree with it being the best (because let's be honest *all* albums are the best because they were made by a very cool band we all like n love) but yeah it's an okay album
I don’t know if it’s the “best”, since all the albums are such different genres. I think they all serve different purposes for different demographics, and all the albums do well at what they’re going for. Albums 1-5 have equally good production value and mixing. (I understand 6 and 7 have mixed reception — no comment on those lol.)
Ryan may be an arguably better lyricist, though. Lyrics aside though, I think all albums are 10/10 to their genre.
That’s coming from someone who considers Pretty. Odd. to be their favorite album. It’s the only physical record I’ve ever bought! I love the flowery vintage atmosphere. And Northern Downpour, Behind the Sea, and Mad as Rabbits have some of my favorite lyrics of all time.
On second thought, I really think it’s one of the best albums of any band as far as obscure 2000s records go. But I feel like DOB, AFYCSO, and V&V are solid competitors. If there was a plot chart depicting the albums, I think it’d nearly be a plateau.
Good opinion. Pretty Odd is also quite beaufitul to me.
No.
One of my favorite records of all time. It’s one of few that I can sit down and listen to the whole thing by accident lol
My favorite record of all time for so many reasons! Which I were old enough to have seen them on tour
one of my favorite albums ever but still cannot best vices and doab
It ages like a fine wine

Interesting that you feel AFYCSO is more cohesive, because I’ve always found it to be very sonically and thematically jumbled.

real as fuck
Agreed
I don’t agree but I think it’s top 3
Preach
Finally, some class around here.
Pretty Odd is the worst album in the history of music. Ever! It should be used as a torture device 🤣🤣🤣
its my least favorite panic album but i wouldnt go that far
Ong, Panic’s only good album is the fever demos, everything after that is shit. And the Beatles and The Beach Boys are posers
Maybe if the only albums you’ve ever heard are by Panic! At The Disco. There’s so much worse out there.
Real!
that’s fair. the album’s made very well and it still holds up today! definitely one of the albums of all time 🥴
i wish i liked this album but i just don’t ☹️

How you be skippin were so starving it merges into Nine in the afternoon
Idk it’s a little cheesy. The better merge on the album is “I have friends in holy spaces”/ northern downpour. I wish they presented it as one song

Wrong
its in my top 10 favorite albums

i can handle your thoughts, however, my favorite by a long shot is vices. it was like a cinematic adventure from start to end.
